I was hoping for a better version of Halal Guys, closer to home...what we received were soggy lettuce, no tomatoes, and chicken that had more of a Mexican fajita flavor than chicken shawarma. Ordered the beef and lamb gyro over rice. Meat and rice had excellent flavor. Rice was just right - firm and texture, not too hard not mushy. Meat really was tender and tasted fresh. Well complemented by the red and white sauce. The serving was generous and well priced, so also a good value. The owner was very pleasant. The meat is so flavorful and tender and the white sauce is DELICIOUS! It's not super thick like some other halal places and it doesn't leave you feeling sick. The rice is perfectly seasoned and the hot sauce adds great flavor without burning your mouth. I had the tri borough without falafel and my husband had the chicken gyro. Both were delicious! I found this place on GrubHub and OMG they are amazing. Let me start with that I am from New York City and regularly ate Halal and street meat from food trucks. Although The Halal Guys are known as "THE" Halal food of NYC, their brick and mortar chains are such a disappointment compared to their original 53rd and 6th food truck. They taste nothing like NYC Halal food. I was very impressed with Wava Halal Grill... it finally tasted like home!!! I've been searching for a good Halal place since we relocated to Dallas and I am just so happy to have found them. Very convenient location, easy to pick up, they deliver quickly and the food is still hot. They have pretty decent servings for the price. It's still more expensive than what I paid in NYC but their price is pretty standard for Dallas and for Halal food. read more

The reviews were so great that I think it may have inflated my expectations. The rice was overly seasoned and the lamb/beef gyro meat was dry. The sauces weren't very good- especially the red sauce (it was watery like old hot sauce). Must have been an off day or something. read more

I've had both Halal Guys and Big Guy's, and I thought both were good, but never seemed craveable to me. My paltry home-cooked attempts sufficed whenever I felt like having some. But Wava is in another league. Everything had fantastic flavor: the rice (which was a quiet backup player at the other places), the gyro meats, and even the pita. At first I was taken aback by the tiny cups that held their white and hot sauces, but as soon as I took a bite, I realized why the sauce servings were so small: you don't need sauce because everything is so flavorful. I almost forgot to add it to my meal because the food was stand-out on its own. Service was fast, friendly, and efficient. Parking on Greenville is what you expect it to be (namely painful), so be prepared to walk a few minutes. Luckily, we live within walking distance, so will be back! read more

This place came up in my list of restaurants nearby, so I decided to try it out tonight. Had the chicken gyro salad (super cool to have an option other than pita or rice, and they did not use iceberg lettuce...woo hoo), and while the chicken was a bit too spicy for my liking (I'm super weak when it comes to spice though), they cook everything fresh to order, so next time I'll simply request a little less spice. Regarding cooking everything to order, if you don't order ahead of time, you might have about a 5 min wait or so, but I was in no hurry, and the customer service was great! As others have noted, it is much better than "the other place down the road," (service-wise and temperature/taste of food-wise), and I'll be back! This place is run by extremely nice people. The food was made fresh and was excellent. My wife had a salad and I the combo platter. She surprisingly got more meat in her dish than I did mine. The only issue is parking. They are supposed to have two spaces allocated to them out front, but the hipsters working at the tattoo shop a few doors down think they own the entire strip apparently and continue to park their salvage vehicles out front. I hope this place makes it despite the parking issue. If you decide to go don't hesitate to park in the tattoo shop's parking spaces. read more
