Stumbled upon this cafe because another shop told me they might have a bathroom (lol) but really glad we stopped by. It's a no-frills, chill cafe where you can get some great coffee and just hang out. I loved the vibe in here - boho, down to earth, peaceful. Mostly street parking outside on the main street, but walkable from the nearby neighborhoods, some shops, and some restaurants. We walked over from a nearby restaurant after having lunch. There's a handful of tables and stools inside if you plan to stick around for awhile. It looked like they even had a small table outside in the back. I ordered an iced latte with whole milk and added some honey on my own at their condiments counter. I know it's a pretty standard latte, but this one was prob my fav coffee of the my trip in Vancouver. The coffee beans were beanin' and the flavor of the coffee was really so good and not too bitter. Service was quick and I didn't have to wait long at all for my drink. A great find in the area if you're looking for a delicious drink! read more

Unpretentious and simplistic decor marks the down to earth service.provided by this indie on E Broadway. My latte was basic but tasty, no latte art but made with passion. For my 16oz latte, the server offered 2 to 4 shots of espresso! It was so potent with 3 shots. I wondered if I would have stayed up all night had I went for 4. Servers were very nice and cheerful. Not too much. Just right. I like the music too. They don't play the coffee shop jazz. It was perfect for my work. So glad I tried this place. Some of my favourite coffee in Mount Pleasant. What makes it so great? Really good coffee at truly decent prices (less than a certain corporate coffee giant!). Fresh baked croissants with perfect lamination (crisp exterior crust, tender interior). If you arrive at the right time, you might be lucky enough to get one fresh from the oven. I love the minimalist decor and natural light. Somehow noise doesn't travel much here, and it stays quiet and peaceful even if every seat is full. Our standing order is a large Americano (they let you choose between three shots or four for the same price) and a vanilla latte (legitimately tastes like dessert). Both are made perfectly, every time. I hear there are good alternative milk options here for non-dairy drinkers. read more

This is a little hole in the wall coffee shop, but serves up the cheapest coffee I've found in Vancouver. I just so happened to be in the area and wanted to get some work done on my laptop, so I hopped on Yelp and found this coffee shop close by. So, I popped on in. The dude working behind the coffee shop was awesome. Accommodating, super friendly, and made a delicious cup of coffee. I ordered my regular go to: oat milk latte and also treated myself to a croissant. The croissant was buttery, flaky and melted in my mouth, just the way I like 'em! This spot is unassuming, unpretentious, and great at what they do. It's a great neighbourhood gem that I'm sure I'll be back to visit again soon! read more

Just wanted a place to relax and found this cafe. It's reminiscent of other trendy cafes: minimalist and tasteful. I'm a fan of all the potted plants and artwork, and I really enjoyed the music. Was a bit loud at times with some customers chatting, but I suppose it can't be helped. Service was very pleasant. The girl behind the counter was friendly and welcoming. The highlight was the food and drink, however. The hot chocolate was delicious! It was mild and sweet, while not overpowering, and also nice and creamy. I could totally taste the quality of the milk. They even did some milk art and it looks gorgeous. I also got a cinnamon roll which was also great. Tiny bit dry and there wasn't any frosting, but somehow I still enjoyed it. I guess the flavor was that good. I'll come back again and update my review if the quality is any different. read more

Stumbled upon this cafe when shopping for groceries in the area. It's a cute little coffee shop with simplistic decor. There are a few seats inside, but also some outside seating. Ordered an iced americano - it had nice body and wasn't too bitter. Parking is always paid on Broadway, but you can find free parking on the side streets. read more

I went to Paper crane on Monday. I brought in my dog Stella, a Frenchie emotional support dog for youth I work with. The owner, Sarah yelled at me that the dog must leave unless I show her a paper to show she's a therapy dog. Sarah said this is a coastal health rule. I told Sarah this is not true as Stella had been to many cafes including Starbucks and it's discriminatory to ask for proof. Sarah told me to go to Starbucks, becoming very confrontational and definitely not very customer service oriented. I put the dog in my car and waited for the person I was meeting. When I ordered a coffee and said we would sit outside, Sarah refused to serve me and said she did not have a license for the dog to sit on the outside patio. I found out you don't need one. if you don't like dogs Sarah just say so. I have put in a complaint with the service dogs society and feel discriminated against. The place is cute and there are some nice staff but the owner needs to learn how to control her temper if she is serving customers and stop discriminating against people she doesn't like. read more

I'll start by saying that I actually really like the coffee here, and the baked goods that i've tried (the croissant and the banana chocolate muffin) are quite good. But holy hell is the service awful. I once watched, over the course of a couple hours, as the barista with curly hair made one pleasant customer after another feel like they were the most disgusting thing she's ever encountered. She scowls at people after taking their order as if they've said something deeply offensive, she yells at people impatiently when their order is ready and they're standing more than 5 feet away, and she otherwise ignores customers as if the central tenet of her job wasn't to help them. I should say that I have been here several times and have seen this behaviour repeatedly. I'm not one that usually cares about the service of a restaurant or cafe -- I go to places that are affordable and that have good stuff -- but the service at this cafe will ruin your day in a way that not even cheap coffee and treats can make up for. I'm not going to spend my weekly $20 cafe allowance at a place that makes me feel like garbage. I know the world is a hard place to live, and no one should be expected to be happy and pleasant all the time just to make a living wage, but if you hate people THIS MUCH than you should find yourself a job at the back of house, or any other position that doesn't very much depend on your attitude and treatment of paying (and tipping!) customers. read more

Quality local cade with peaceful vibes and good coffee. They have oat milk and almond milk for my fellow non-dairy drinkers, and I'm not exaggerating ~ the best croissants I've ever had. Free WiFi and plenty of seating if you need to get some work done. read more

I like that this is hidden, prices are low (what some other places USED to be), and that it's in the neighbourhood. Stop by after the Sunday farmers market, or before some grocery shopping at Kim's Mart a couple doors down, and enjoy a flat white with beautiful tiny foam and a croissant. read more

I saw this coffee shop on the way to another eatery (January 29) with my boyfriend on a Saturday and decided to book mark this for future reference. The place is very small and narrow with very limited seating. I wanted to spend at least 30 minutes on my break working on my zine, however, there were already campers so I took my London Fog with almond milk to go. They didn't have any sugar free vanilla syrup, however, they had caramel which was a unique change. The ladies working there were nice and friendly. I appreciate the hipster yet unfinished look of the coffee shop. There are some treats, very limited amount, again the place is small. Prices were very very reasonable for a 12 oz, even with the milk substitute it was $4. read more

Came in here because we dropped our doggie across street to be groomed. Honestly the coffee and treats we delicious but the barista was terrible, she was changing the garbage and served us, never washing her hands. She wasn't the slightest bit friendly and argued with me about what exactly a Tea Latte is. Perhaps if you're a local hipster then they might be a bit nicer. Will walk the extra couple of blocks to Starbucks next time. read more

Always down to check out local coffee shops hut was pretty unimpressed here. As noted with a few of the other lower rating reviews, service was really mediocre. A single barista was working when I arrived, she took my order and then proceeded to make my americano without washing her hands and touched the grinds in the brew head. The drink itself wasn't bad for the price you pay, but overall atmosphere is a bit "forgotten" in the cafe itself - everything feels just a bit dirty/dingy. read more

I really love the coffee here and the owner is the best. The trouble is, it's inconsistent. I go here all the time but I keep facing the gamble of who's going to be working and what I'm going to get - the perfect latte (the owner makes the best) or a dump of steamed milk in a cup (what you get when she's not working). read more

Easily the worst service I have ever experienced. I stood at the counter, directly in front of the barista, for what felt like 15 minutes (it was probably 7) before she acknowledged my presence. When she finally asked me what I wanted, I asked for a drip coffee, and she said "Ohhhhh, we're out of drip right now, and since we close in 45 minutes I can't make a new pot." WHAT THE HECK?!?! She offered me nothing else. I replied with "could you make me an Americano then?" And she said she could do that. The Americano was completely average. I should have walked out at so many points during the experience, but I was desperate for coffee. Needless to say I will never, ever be setting foot in Paper Crane again and I recommend you don't waste your time going in there either. read more
