If I could have given this review a big, fat '0', I would have. I was excited to finally see this Wawa here in DC. I placed an order for a sandwich and medium soup. Got a soda to wash it all down. Got my food, sat down at the window looking at the street I rode my 10-speed Raleigh and when I was feeling dangerous skateboarding was a second mode of transportation. Everything was fine until I just so happened to look at my receipt. I saw everything and their totals in addition to a .98 cent 'food fee'. Needless to say, I became pissed off. I ran in here on a busy Friday and ordered 42 sandwiches for construction crews working nearby. Even though I was supposed to call ahead so they could be ready, they took my order anyway and kicked butt. The particular person behind the counter that made my day was named Niecey. As a NJ native, I was SO disappointed in this Wawa. My fiancé and I needed a quick dinner and were driving by and, since I had raved about Wawa sandwiches to him for years, decided to go. We placed our order on the computer - one of my favorite parts about Wawa. Then we paid and waited for our food. And waited. And waited. After 10 minutes or so, I asked if they'd called my order and I'd missed it. They had no idea what I was talking about. They didn't have our order at all. Apparently their computer had gone out right when I ordered? So I showed them my receipt but of course that doesn't include any of the options or preferences selected. So they started barking questions about us about what kind of bread and what kind of condiments we selected. It turned out they didn't even have most of the selections we'd made, which makes NO sense. Why is your computer listing options you don't have? A half hour after walking in, we finally left with 2 sandwiches, which were fine I guess. But this was not the Wawa experience I know and love. On top of it, the kitchen area where they make the sandwiches was DIRTY. Like there were cold cuts and other food on the floor being stepped on. Pretty gross. read more

My first time in a Wawa and it happened to be opening day of the LARGEST one ever! Well it didn't disappoint - this store is never ending! Taking over the old Sport's Authority, once you go in there's no going out. The store is packed with sandwiches, salads, coffee (self-serve and order options), your typical convenience items, and then a whole lot more (ice cream - even Halo Top!, touch screens, tables, wifi...). It's right by my office so I can definitely see myself stopping by pretty often. It was crowded, but it was also opening day and they handled the crowds well. i didn't have wawa for the first time until my sophomore year of college, but since then i've been OBSESSED. it's hard to explain why. like i know the sandwiches/coffee aren't objectively that good but they just hit the spot in a way that no other sandwich chain can - especially when pulling all nighters. my go-to sandwich is buffalo chicken tender + bacon + a shitton of toppings (LOL the literal words of the wawa worker announcing my sandiwch was ready). if you haven't tried it, i HIGHLY recommend. i've never looked back. but be sure you ask the sandwich peeps to toast it for you after you order on the touchscreen - for some reason this is the only sandwich where the system doesn't give you the option to toast. anyway V V V happy that dc now has wawa -- this is also the bougiest wawa i've ever seen - it has seating!! can't wait for wawa to open its second location in columbia heights uwu read more

I was so excited to have a Wawa finally in the city and went one night after the club which was one night after it opened. It was fairly busy which was fine but it probably took like 30 minutes to get my sandwich and when I got it ; it was all wrong . I didn't have the majority of the stuff I asked for and they gave it to me to put on . I still don't have everything and was missing my cheese . Wawa overall: To know me is to know my passion for Wawa. Having grown up with 7-Elevens, the bar was set low for convenience stores, but Wawa far surpasses. The app and touch-screen ordering function are super convenient, and you can get a made-to-order hot meal with fresh ingredients FAST and for cheap. I'm a big fan of the buffalo chicken hoagies, but they have great breakfast paninis, meatballs, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, lattes, the list goes on. Wawa is always my go-to before a night out: I get some cash for tips from the no-surcharge ATM, grab a red bull to help my granny self stay awake, stock up on gatorade and order a hoagie for latenight and next-day survival. I recommend getting the app for the rewards (Wawa is super generous with freebies) and order-ahead function, where they don't start preparing your food until you're onsite (fresh!), but can be a life-saver if the lines are long. This location: Shiny and new! It's spacious, and I hear the largest in the nation? Not sure, but it is comfortably large and has both indoor and outdoor seating, which I've never seen before. They've kept the place very clean, and the staff were quick to complete orders on a crowded Saturday midday. I am waiting (im)patiently for the other locations around the area to open, but for now I will hoard my quarters to drive over for a metered spot and spend $1 to park. Full disclosure; I LOVE WAWA. I am from Philadelphia and WaWa represents so much I love and miss. First of all, WaWa homies are amongst the best anywhere, even in Philadelphia. If you try a bogie from WaWa, you will fell that all that money you spent at subway was the same as throwing it in the street. They use real Philadelphia bread, which is part of the secret of the best hogtied and cheesesteaks. Next, they have REAL soft pretzels. Have a bite and you will realize the Superpretzels aren't that special. Finally they carry the entire Tastycake line of products. Once you try those you will know that Hostess had held you Hostage. This WaWa is a one and a must pilgrimage for all WaWa fans. They have the same friendly employees that you find at most location, but you find here a real elegance that you normally don't see and elevates the whole experience. A MUST TRY. read more

So, first let me start off by saying the people working there were awesome and the customer service was amazing. I am giving it 2 stars because their Covid precaution measures are a little ridiculous! They couldn't give me a packet of sugar for my coffee because if they weren't allowed to hand it to me!!! So, just leave them out...like the salt and dressings. I don't understand the difference why salt can be left out but not sugar. My family had gone in early in the morning to grab breakfast. They ordered me a large latte and there was so much sugar in it so it was undrinkable. They paid for a latte I couldn't drink. So, I go back later and order one without sugar so I can put my own in. But, NO! No sugar to be found anywhere. The woman behind the counter though was soooo nice and made an exception . She had great customer service. This Wawa has a huge variety. It is like a glorified 7-11 with a deli counter. It has brisket, both on sandwiches and on macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes. Unfortunately it only has hamburgers at dinner time. I don't know why that is so complicated. It has premade hot dogs in the hot case and lots of other interesting things including probably every non-alcoholic drink that exists. They really need to put shelf prices for all the items. There is no self-serve price scanner. Many items have no shelf price and it is a pain to get a price check all the time. They removed the inside tables presumably for covid, but tit doesn't sound like they have any plans to bring them back, which is unfortunate. You order the counter food from a self-serve kiosk and it gives you a receipt and you pay at the store checkout, not the counter. So if you buy other stuff they don't start your counter order until you pay, not when you order. I don't think that's too efficient. Good addition to the neighborhood, though. read more

This is a FANCY Wawa. It's enormous (the biggest Wawa ever, so I've heard?) and sells no gas. Obviously Wawa is the best, and this one is no exception. So many options for snacks and food and drinks and everything you'd expect a convenience store to have. This one also has ample seating in the front, which is nice, and has ordering screens all around the store so the pick-up area doesn't get crowded. I got a BBQ chicken quesadilla and a mint cream smoothie (my favorites), and they were amazing as usual. My only complaint is that the iced coffee dispensers were empty. read more

Basically a 7-11 on steroids (for any West Coasters like me who aren't familiar with Wawa's). The chain has its own brands of milk, to-go-salads, mini-market/gas station snacks, and hot foods available at this location. You can get hot sandwiches, cold sandwiches (both at pretty good prices). This place is BIG (especially since it's supposed to be a gas station chain), and really great looking-it reminds me of an Asian 7-11 or a coffeeshop. You can also get cold brew coffee, pastries, and fruit, and sit down to eat. The place is pretty popular with the local university students (especially during breakfast times), so there might be a little bit of a wait. Taste wise, I didn't have high expectations, but it was decent-comparable to a Subway. read more

AMAZING!!! It was a godsend for all my late night cravings me when I lived in Philly so I'm glad it's followed me here to my new DC neighborhood! I attended the grand opening. Despite the crowds, I was super impressed by the efficiency. My hoagie and coffee tasted amazing. They have your regular Wawa menu items like hoagies and of course the yummy Wawa coffee, plus fancier new items like egg white omelettes, Halo Top ice cream, and veggie bowls - all super yummy and affordable. So glad to have the healthier alternatives. I go here straight after working out at the new Barry's Bootcamp next door! I think this is definitely a game changer for the neighborhood. Usually this area of downtown is empty over the weekends. It was great to see this street bustling with activity both Saturday and Sunday with a diverse group of people. Also love the sit-in option. I was psyched to discover that a Wawa was opening in DC. One of the few things open on Sunday, this Wawa is expansive, high tech and fully equipped with a deli, coffee bar, multiple ordering stations frozen drinks and prepared foods. This one does not have a gas station but is a fully equipped convenience store with both indoor and outdoor seating. If I lived closer I would be here everyday for their iced and self service hot coffees.... it's my favorite coffee. In addition to the requisite coffee, I ordered chicken soup and the soft pretzel which was the perfect lunch. The bathroom was spotless as well. I love Wawa. I grew up in Northern Delaware where Wawas basically exist on every corner. When Wawa opened in DC, I was *very* excited. Finally! A Wawa close to home. I had waited over a decade! But I'm sorry to say that this Wawa just isn't very good. My first bad experience was a few weeks back when I ordered a basic Italian hoagie around 3pm. It took a VERY long time to be made, maybe 15mins. And wasn't made well. The oil was unevenly distributed leaving the sandwich both too wet and too dry bite by bite. Very disappointing. Today I went at midnight and, again, had to wait an obscenely long time for my simple Italian hoagie to be finished: 20 mins. When I finally did get my hoagie, my ice latte still was not finished. The store wasn't even that crowded. Certainly no more than I've ever seen at a morning rush back in Wilmington. I have never til recently had a negative experience with Wawa. For 32 years, Wawa has been my standby. A third place. Reliable. This DC store is a mess. Very disappointing. read more

I was just in here and was one of maybe 5 customers in the store. I was waiting to check out and no one would assist. Two employees were talking within the dugout area between the registers. One employee left the area and said, "she'll help you in a minute," referring to her colleague. Her colleague, who I will not identify here, appeared to be eating a breakfast sandwich and was LICKING HER FINGERS. Right by the registers and the displayed food items. I was so disgusted that I put my items back and walked out. It was my first time grabbing lunch here during work and it was amazing! The hot hoagie was good and even their cafe con leche! I had the meatballs one and grabbed a few snacks as well. The wait was a bit considering that it was already 2 pm on a Friday that we went. There were still alot of people but alot of stiff to distract you from anyway. They have tables and seats if you wish to eat there. There's even a scratch card machine if you must. Condiments are available and breakfast sandwiches are still available as well! It's a Wawa in DC and it is a ten-minute walk from my work. Life is good. The coffee on nitro is amazing. The pretzels are an authentic taste of Philadelphia. The hoagies are delicious. Everything is delicious. The layout of the coffee is not great. Also, they need to move the fresh food items out of the wall recess and into a more typical wawa setup behind the registers. Wawa store 697 on Garrisonville road needs to get the potholes to the store entrance way fixed immediately. I addressed my concerns to management and was told that corporate was aware of the situation for the last 4 weeks. I contacted both management and corporate after the one pothole ate my 17 inch tire. I addressed my concerns over potential safety concerns for damaged tires, rims, shocks or other parts of the car and I95 being less then 100 meters away and someone getting hurt or killed. I clearly addressed this as a safety issue for customers and employees and needed to be fixed immediately. I received the typical corporate response of "someone will respond to you in 5-10 business days". They can't even tell me when they are doing a temporary fix.
