This was one of the best waxing experiences I've ever received. I've worked at European Wax Center for years as a guest associate and waxed at many other locations (Bloomfield skin and wax, european, pretty kitty, etc.) and this was the best. And I literally mean the best. The technique and the time provided to each client is what really stood out. My technician truly cared about the quality of the wax and my skin. Each session is about 30-40 minutes whereas their competitors are 15 maybe even 10... lol Alyssa went above and beyond to make sure that I was smooth and completely hairless. They tweeze and use a ring light to ensure they get EVERYTHING. This is something that sets waxing the city apart from your competitors that are cheaper. I travel almost 30 minutes to have Michelle do my eyebrows. I'm not kidding, she's seriously the best. She's been doing my eyebrows for a year now and I always leave 100% satisfied. Not only is she meticulous, she's always very pleasant and easy to talk to. Deb has also done my eyebrows once when Michelle wasn't there and she did an excellent job as well. The staff at the front desk are very and helpful. They can schedule your next appointment for you, you can call them, or you can do it yourself online. Lastly, they offer 2 hour parking validation in the garage behind the shop, which is amazing considering that fact that parking in Montclair can be a nightmare. Recently came here for a yelp event with a friend, enjoyed it so much I decided to go back and really check out their services. I got a Brazilian wax by Michelle and she was so great. Very sociable, made me feel comfortable, and was not shy about answering any and all of my questions! I highly recommend her. The overall atmosphere is very calming, clean, and smells amazing. This place is simply amazing! From the moment you walk in the staff makes you feel so welcome, nothing but smiles in front of you (I'm so sorry I didn't catch the name of the person at the front desk!). I was able to make an appointment online and when I arrived check in was quick and simple and the wait was minimal. My waxer, Michelle, took the time to listen to what I wanted. Brows make or break a face and after MANY brow disasters at other places this was so refreshing. Before and after my wax I spent some time talking to the owner who was beyond friendly and informed me of some fun upcoming events in town (thanks Irfan!). BYFAR the best wax I have ever received. I saw an ad for 50% off your first wax, so I thought I'd try it out. I made an appointment online and it was pretty easy. The same day of my appointment, I called to see if they could take me earlier and they were very accommodating. The person on the phone also let me know that they validate parking if I park in the parking deck behind the building. Upon arrival, the salon is immaculate! They have chargers for most phones available in the lobby and in the rooms - genius idea. There was even props to take selfies lol. They offered me some water. All around great service. I only waited about 5 minutes before the esthetician came out. She let me know they use a hard wax to do brazilians (thank goodness), but it would take longer than the average wax because they use much thinner wax and smaller sections. And I have to say, it was the MOST GENTLE wax I have ever received. Not 100% painless, but definitely way more bearable than usual and I have been getting Brazilians for years. She was a little chattier than I would have liked, but she was friendly. Overall awesome experience and my skin wasn't even red or sore at all after. I am always skeptical of wax places that are franchises because of past experiences. I am very sensitive and (I'm gonna keep it real) prone to really bad ingrown hair and discoloration because of It. The last wax place I went to my ingrown hair was worse after my wax then if I shaved it. But after coming to Waxing the City I feel very comfortable about returning. Alyssa was very knowledgeable about my issues and she made it so painless (which at other places has never been the case.) She took time to carter to my special needs as far a my personal Waxing issues. She explained after care and how to prevent my ingrowns from occurring. I already booked my second appointment. Everyone was so nice. They offer you water as soon as you come in. I love their colors! Think I just found my new Waxing home. And I'll just throw this in... My husband and I went in to have our nose waxed. The cerologist made us feel very comfortable and chatted with us during the waxing.  We both have to say it was the easiest wax with no pain. My first time walking in the place I thought wow so clean and calm which is something that I could appreciate after going to EWC. When you first walk in the girl greets you calmly it kind of made me feel comfortable about my first wax there. The owner engages and educates you on skin/waxing. I had my first ever Brazilian wax just the other day with Vanessa and It could not have gone better! I was nervous because of what I had read and heard about them, but Vanessa eased my nerves and kept a conversation going to take my mind off of the waxing. It literally went by so quick and was MUCH less painful than I anticipated. The studio was spotless and I did not have to wait long, just had to fill out the forms necessary for the wax and then I was brought back to the waxing room. Today was my first time here I received a Brazilian wax. I gave it 5 stars, for starts the place is impeccably clean from the front waiting area to the bathrooms and of course the waxing room. Michelle was my waxer she was amazing she walked me through the process explain to me the difference between regular wax I am use to and the hard way they use, I can tell you it's way better than strip waxing and a lot less painful. I don't know what kind of business they're running here. But there seems to be tension brewing. I've heard the girls talking amongst themselves in one of the rooms. And I also heard the manager or owner (the guy) reprimanding one of the girls quite distastefully. It made me uncomfortable, and I felt bad listening to her being talked to like that. He like lurks around, and because the place is dead silent and echoes I feel like he and whoever else may be walking by can hear private conversations through the door. (I think there's a second owner, too. But I haven't met him or her.) I've been there multiple times over the few months that they've been open because I like to support local businesses. But I'm over it now. There's such high turn over. The person I originally liked doesn't work there anymore. It is always awkwardly quiet in there, so I don't know who the people are that have written these 11 reviews. No one talks about Waxing the City...not the Montclair location at least. I've been to the one in Madison with my niece, and it was so much better. So I don't know, everyone. I wouldn't waste your time visiting this location. Your waxer probably won't even be there for long. Sadly, you're probably better off at European Wax Center. (And I cringe saying that because I've been displeased with many of the company's locations.) But I'm fed up, and I'm definitely in search of a more comfortable place to receive my beauty treatments! read more

This is NOT European Wax Center! (Which is 100% a compliment!) Lexy is my certologist, she's confident abd her technique makes it virtually painless! They make sure to be efficient and thorough, taking the time to get ALL the hairs. I have very sensitive skin, usually when i leave EWC my eyebrows are red and my legs and Brazilian area is irritated. BUT here at WTC, the hard wax brand they use is AMAZING! You should also try the redness treatment for anywhere that is usually red and noticeable (like face) its amazing and leaves your skin feeling awesome! read more

So I've been waxing for about 2 years now and started with EWC and then went to Bloomfield Wax and Skin Center and though I miss paying $25 for a Brazilian, neither place compares to here. The attention you get is 5 star on its own. What makes this place better is the type of wax they use which I used to think was absurd and just a way to get you to stay or try out new places but noooo. My skin is much less prone to ingrowns and hair growth is actually reduced. So so worth every penny. Also, I LOVE Michelle! She's fabulous! She makes me feel comfortable and makes sure I walk out of there as smooth and hairless as possible! read more

They are very understanding with rescheduling unlike European Wax Center (which is how I stumbled across this place). There are phone chargers in the lobby and wax rooms. Their wax rooms are big and comfortable with space to place your clothes. They wax in strips to get all the hairs and really pay attention to stray hairs. Deb is amazing. She is super friendly and professional. I only go to her for all my waxing needs. The manager and his staff are really nice and accommodating (they offer water) and they validate your parking since parking in the area is a hassle. read more
