The ambiance is excellent. The food was fine for the most part, some of the small plates were really lovely. However I found that they use a bit too much salt in many of their dishes. I have been wanting to try this restaurant since first reading a review on Yelp several months back. Shortly after that Covid happened and I unfortunately forgot about them. Today while looking for something different and exciting for our Friday date night I stumbled upon them again. This is not your average restaurant. Nothing on the menu is plain or simple. I can easily describe their menu as an adventure in dining. Take your time and read the menu closely. My wife was having a hard time finding a meal that she thought she would like until I started pointing out various items to her. The menu items are all little works of gastronomic art. Some of the descriptions might seem odd but like I said, this is an adventure in dining and each is well thought out. We started out with the roast chicken potato chips and the chicken fried cerignola olives stuffed with pork rillette. Both were very good. The potato chips were warm, homemade and coated with a fried chicken seasoning. The olives were coated with a breading and deep fried like fried chicken. We asked our waiter for wine suggestions and his descriptions were very helpful. For dinner my wife chose the cider braised pork shoulder and I chose the monk fish. Both were very good. The pork shoulder is pulled and then formed into a rectangle. The seasoning really makes this quite good. The monk fish is served over lentils and artfully plated. Monk fish is known as the "poor man's lobster," because when prepared correctly it tastes very similar to lobster. This was prepared perfectly. Their desserts have unusual names and are best described by the server before ordering. My wife for her dessert had a glass of their champagne of the day and burnt basque cheesecake. Both were excellent as I stole a bit from her. The "burnt" comes from cooking the cheesecake at a very high temperature which causes the top to become carmalized. I went with the Olive & Sinclair chocolate mousse, sorbet, caramel plum. If you like dark chocolate this is the dessert to get. We had a fun evening. Our server was very friendly and helpful in describing the menu items and making suggestions. They have a very spacious and well lit parking lot located behind their building. You can park across the street or behind the building as there are two entrances. Looking forward to when social distancing is no longer needed as this looks like it would be a nice place to arrive early and enjoy a glass of wine at their bar. Stopped by on a Friday night not expecting to get a table. The place was busy but the staff was super friendly and accommodating and we ended up at the bar. The vibe inside is great! More upscale with small tables or couches and very cozy. The menu seems to lean more towards small plates with larger meal options as you move down the menu. The menu is on the pricier side (for Buffalo) but this is for quality food that was meticulously thought out. The space is very large but obviously tables were more spread out and sparse at this time. They gave people plenty of space to feel safe. The drinks were very good. We ordered the chips and dip for a late night snack which were outstanding. If the simplest thing on their menu is that good, with that much flavor, I can only imagine what their meals taste like. Overall, this is a great place in an up and coming spot on Chandler street that I hope does very well! read more

Visited for the first time this past weekend. Easily made reservations online about 5 days ahead of time. This restaurant has everything I look for in a restaurant experience. Excellent service, sophisticated and modern, yet cozy, atmosphere, unique food and amazing wine list. Our server, Jess, was very knowledgeable and helpful on all aspects of the menu, as well as very personable. The wait staff was very attentive to cleaning our table, providing water and fresh silverware throughout our courses. We started with oysters, mussels and escargot all which were divine. We then had the beet salad, mushroom bisque and pork collar. The pork was very tender and flavorful. I cannot say enough about the mushroom bisque.. I think it was the best soup I have ever had. Bits of smoky bacon and garlic..it was a wonderful experience. We ended with the burnt cheesecake and chocolate mousse with dark Carmel. Both were over the top delicious. The cheesecake was a creamy style and the mouse was so dark and rich it was the perfect ending if you love dark chocolate. We can't wait to go back! read more

We went here on Monday for our anniversary. I am in my late 50's and we live in Orchard Park--great town but lacking restaurants. Therefore, We always Dine at places that our not the ordinary. We have enjoyed Black Sheep, The Roost, 100 Acres, Dubotso. We love all of them. Waxlight has a similar cool vibe as the others. As previously mentioned in other reviews--the decor is beautiful and Sophisticated. We were Welcomed and seated at the bar until our table was ready. The bar is lovely, romantic-ish...we love the wine list. The cocktail list was limited for me, but I did try the special rye old fashioned (it had honey, white chocolate, and bitter orange;each flavor ingredient was just a tiny drop so the drink just tasted like a strong whiskey drink. Oh well.) Jessica was our server. It was helpful to have an owner/server that was able to answer all questions regarding the menu/ingredients. Good business model. Once seated, We shared the roast chicken potato chips. Delicious. She mentioned that only 3 of the small plate pork bellys were available--we asked for one to be reserved for us, but it never arrived. That's okay---We were hungry and the small plates are very small, but they would be fun with a group. We chose entrees instead. My husband had the chicken. It was prepared well... All kinds of ingredients but sadly should have been more flavorful. I had the omelette. There is nothing more luxurious than a beautifully prepared fluffy French omelette. We splurged on the add- on shaved truffle.($8 extra I think?) It was such a disappointment. It wasn't fluffy. It was raw on the inside. Gross gelatinous.It was also supposed to have chives-- the tiniest amount was sprinkled on the top. The truffle amount was such a small amount and didn't have truffle flavor. So disappointed. I did send it back. It came back heated through and was cooked...but they scrambled it. Should never be presented like this anywhere. Not a thing was included on the plate either. Odd. Dessert was a shared pana cotta with pistachios. Again, sounded lovely but was pretty bland . Husband had a white Burgundy, I had a red Sicilian wine with dinner. Both were excellent. Huge plus for us suburbanites---excellent parking. A great lit parking lot. Bonus. I truly hope they do well...it's wonderful for the neighborhood Even though our dinner was spotty, we will try it one more time. This place is a bit 'different' - in a most positive way - from most fine dining restaurants in WNY. From the decor through the concept of the menu it's unique. Service was terrific and the waitress certainly was well versed on the wine list. All dishes were well presented and excellent. Even the background music was just right. The menu was pretty well priced, but I'd like to see a few more wine options beginning at a lower or 'special' price point. Do not hesitate to spend some time there. read more

Beautiful upscale yet casual restaurant and very friendly staff. Although we are seasoned foodies, quite a few menu items needed to be further described by the server. Dishes that are offered change as to what local farmers provide (obviously a huge plus!) but not overly impressive. Cocktails mediocre. Check backs were long in between. Our first time here tonight and I was blown away. The aesthetic in this restaurant alone is reason enough to visit. I highly recommend a stop to anyone considering it. We came with four people and ended up splitting two large plates and 5 small plates so that we could taste a variety of the menu, we licked the plate clean on every item. This is some of the best food I've had in the city in a long time , the star of the show was the pork confit and the roasted carrots. Our server Jeff was also incredible he was extremely patient with us when we had questions about the menu. He took time to literally explain every item to us and even gave us some good recommendations on wine and cocktails. I will be back ASAP. This place deserves 5 stares in my opinion. read more

Waxlight is definitely a must go in the city of Buffalo, nestled in the up and coming Chandler St. Waxlight captures an amazing atmosphere for both food and drinks. The vibes give off a lounge type feel in a fine dining setting. The food is some of the most creative in Buffalo with interesting pairings and selections. The Cold Smoked Tiki Masala and Mushroom Pancake were fantastic along with our drinks. Absolutely worth a stop. read more

I have seen this restaurant on the gluten free near me app. and have wanted to try it for a while. I finally got a friend of mine to go here with me and we were NOT disappointed. I had the most amazing drink to start. It was called the aperol whip. It looked like a Jello confection from the 60's pink and frothy and served in a curvy body that seemed like a Rubinesque woman's figure. I had two of those. My friend had the bees knees for her drink and I ended up ordering one of those as well. It was served in a coupe glass and had the most delicious crunchy candied citrus fruit slice on the top. Both drinks were amazing. I eat gluten free and in fact get very sick if there is even cross contamination. I was under the impression that this place had a gluten free menu. I asked and they did not. The waiter was very conscientious and knowledgeable about all gluten free choices and ensured me that the chef would take care. He also told us that the menu changes frequently depending on the fresh food that was available. So I went ahead and ordered. I had a scallops dish for my appetizer that was delicious. It was scallops on this rich creamy mushroom soup like base... amazing! Then I did something that I very rarely do. I ordered chicken breast. Boy was I glad I did. It was the best chicken breast I have ever had. Perfectly seasoned, crispy skin and so juicy on the inside. It came with fingerling potatoes and carrots all yummy! Then came time for dessert. The waiter asked if we wanted any? I said any gluten free choices (they usually do not other than ice cream). He said yes! I was able to order a cheesecake. That was also delicious. I loved this place, the food was great and the decor was very pleasing. Kind of on the dark side but that was ok. It was decorated in navy blue velvet and gold. Penny rounds in the bathroom. There were tables with chairs and some with sofas. I woke up three days later and turned to my husband and told him that all I could think about was the delicious food that I ate at the Waxlight. He said he wanted to go because I had been talking it up so much. I have told people if you go to any new restaurant go here even if it is just for a drink. I can not wait to go back. read more
