Every review talks about the "sweet, molasses-y, nostalgic BBQ sauce that tastes like childhood," decades of regulars, the whole Americana roadside-stand thing -- but nobody's ever put two and two together on where that sauce actually comes from or who's actually making it. Kind of a funny blind spot for a place this well-loved and well-documented. It also sounds like there's real layered history here that nobody's nailed down publicly -- the current owner (also named Annie, no relation) has run it since 2005, but the name and building go back further, possibly to a different name and a different original "Annie" before that, with some sources pointing to WWII-era roots and others to the 1950s as "Silver Grill." Old signage on the building references press coverage from Yankee Magazine, the Boston Globe, and the Telegram & Gazette, so this place has clearly had its moment in the regional spotlight more than once. If anyone in the comments knows the fuller ownership history -- who ran it between the original Annie and the current one, when the Korean family took over, or how the sauce recipe evolved -- I'd genuinely love to hear it. Recently, while I was doing some shopping at the mall, I decided to place an online order for The Woostah ($7 plus tax), The Fredo ($6 plus tax), French Connection ($7 plus tax), and a Frito Pie ($8 plus tax). My order was all set for pickup in under 10 minutes. I enjoyed my hot dogs on soft warm NE hot dog buns and Frito pie in the food court. The Woostah (Relish, mustard, onions, bacon bits, banana peppers, celery salt, dill spear), The Fredo (chili, melted cheese sauce), and French Connection (Fried French onions, melted cheese sauce, bbq sauce drizzle) hot dogs were very enjoyable.
