To go along with it I had the Bacon Breakfast Sandwich w/ bacon, fried egg, avocado, mayo & sweet chipotle jam... This sandwich is everything!!! One of the best breakfast sandwiches I've had 10Stars! Well, it was the video of them making these brownies that finally made me come in so I had to have one. OMG... This Chocolate Chip Brownies is soooooo good :) :) :) I had to get another one to take home. My only regret was not getting 2 because this one never made it home!! The only downer is the parking, it is street parking only and the area is pretty busy. I've been getting these guys delivered at work pretty frequently lately as they are close quick and delicious. I've had the breakfast burrito before and it's pretty good but the breakfast sandwich is my absolute fav. The bread they use is soooo bomb and they have a spicy jam on it that I am obsessed with. Coffee is also delicious, i started out always getting the iced latte, then I got stuck on the iced mochas but now my star is the iced vanilla latte. Not the business. The parking is almost non existent but it may have been because it was a Saturday. I ordered a large latte online. Went to pick it up with a slice of banana bread. There was absolutely nowhere to park. Not their fault but no good for someone picking up the order from a car. Great for foot traffic I'm sure. Anyway the guy who answered my frantic call was very kind and came out to my car while I waited in the red. Received a small latte that was cold but I had to get back to work. First of all Matcha is Great! Customer Service was the best, Cashier/server were great I asked if matcha was sweetened or not she said it wasn't but could make it sweet for me by adding honey, I accepted and when she delivered she asked me to try it and if I wanted anything different to make it sweeter to let her know. BEST americano i've had since i've moved to LA. the second i took a sip, i literally out loud said "hot damn thats amazing." I was a barista in specialty coffee for yearrsss and firmly believe that an Americano is the true tell of a good coffee shop. I ordered an iced dirty Chai for delivery by mistake. I called the shop on the phone to cancel, and even though there was nothing they could do, the person who answered was very friendly and nice about it. I could tell they were in the middle of a rush (8am on a Wednesday -- that's no joke), but the employee maintained great customer service. The iced dirty Chai ended up being incredible -- not too sweet and i was still very much able to enjoy the espresso in it. 10/10 beverages. read more

Stopped by this coffee shop when I had a work visit in the area. I had always seen it and something about it always got my attention. I think it's the outdoor patio area, super cute. Inside there is plenty seating and when I went it was pretty slow so it looks like a nice place to work from or study at. The young girl at the counter was very sweet and helpful, great service. I ordered a vanilla oat latte and the coffee was great. I haven't tried the food but will be back for that. I actually input my number and got a reward for a free pastry, yay! Perfection. Waiting in line, I see in the window a bunch of famous cookbooks. I thought, " Oh hmmm, maybe this is a clue that they seek perfection in food. There are millions of secrets to making good food. It is a journey to discover them all. I think Weird Wave Coffee is on that journey. I have been making the rounds to every coffee shop in the downtown area. I found a mix of good and bad people. Some were friendly and efficient, others downright mean, arrogant and greedy. Some had exceptional coffee and some exceptional baked goods. It was hard to find that perfect combination of both excellent bread and ideal coffee with a caring staff. You would think it might be easy. They are everywhere in France. Somehow too many miss the mark here in L.A. With one bite of the Weird Wave Cinnamon Bread, I understand this shop is trying to achieve nirvana in bread and coffee. When I received my coffee and bread, it was with a friendly smile and a giggle. Thank you. This coffee shop is not about gentrification. They are about finding nirvana in a coffee shop. I have met coffee gentrifiers. They are assholes and usually out for the money only. I will refrain from naming them here. I am writing this only because I want to see this place continue its reach for bread perfection. I would have loved to try their pizza-please bring it back. I cannot wait to get back to you tomorrow. I was really excited to come to get some coffee but then I arrived and the service was not at all that great. There was a customer buying a drink and some beans and when we come up to the window we weren't even acknowledged. I step back and someone's else comes up to the window and the attention is given to her. They clearly saw me and nothing... two minutes later they open the window and don't say anything, expecting me to come up. I ask if they're ready for my order, then just order. I understand people are busy and working diligently but just acknowledge and say you'll be right there or at least say something. Be nice and acknowledge your latinos, not just the white customers. read more

Wow!! I can't believe I'm a local and had not tried this place. Let me start by saying "I can't wait! To go back". We had already had breakfast and were looking for a coffee place, yelped and boom! This gem popped up. I'm so, so, pleased and happy to have a coffee space in our community with this quality of coffee and super welcoming environment! The coffee beans are very good here. They're not inconsistently roasted. It's very difficult if not rare to find light roast anywhere because of the meticulous process of roasting light beans. If you notice, most places and stores are mostly dark and medium roast because they can't do it right. read more

Awesome hole in the wall coffee shop. One of the better iced lattes I've ever had, and an excellent selection of tasty pastries(I had a chocolate croissant). This place has a super chill vibe, the guy behind the counter was literally reading a book when I came in, and is definitely a hidden gem. They've got some cool artwork hanging on the walls as well. It just feels like a place you could come and relax with a good coffee for ahwile. They also randomly serve pizza, although not on Monday's or I would've had one). Now I know why this place is called weird. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and I only got half (?) I've never seen that, the flavor was lacking which is also weird since I specifically ordered it for the hot pepper jelly which I've had other places and it's always packed with flavor. Definitely not here. And the iced vanilla latte had like no flavor except for coffee grounds. My friend got a breakfast burrito and it was subpar according to her. I absolutely love any business that works this hard and put so much love into their products. Stepping in, you instantly feel welcome, appreciated and at home. Love the vibe and feel to the place, good vibes all around. The menu is small, but covers the bases, we both really enjoyed our mochas, again local coffee, local pastries, even the fruit on hand is from a local vendor, love love love this. Along the way, I have gained a lot of wisdom about coffee and got to know a lot of these brilliants minds behind these great coffee shops. Lets end this journey with one last hoorah with Weird Wave Coffee Brewers. Background of shop: With any outsider in a community, there will be conflict when you move in. Prime example is Weird Wave Coffee (Promotes peace and love) and the Boyle Heights community (Anti-Gentrification). With time, wierd wave and boyle heights will be peachy keen. Before going, I felt very nervous in a sense that I would be confronted by a protestor. When I went, the moment never came. All I saw was friendly familiar faces from nearby shops waving to the owner as they walked by. Credit Cards: Accepted! Coffee Program: Heart Coffee from Portland! Location/Parking: Located across the street from King Taco. Meter parking can be had along Cesar Chavez. Free parking can be found in the rear of the shop and on Cincinnati St. Ambiance/Decor: Great place to have a cup of coffee and catch up with friends. Modern wooden bar seats along the wall and facing the street. There's also art work on the walls also. Love the coffee bar area! Coffee: $2 for a cup of Heart Coffee! What a deal! Normally, a cup of Heart Coffee runs for $3.50 to $4. Loved the quality and taste of the coffee. Pastry: They offer pastries from Homeboy Pastries. That day, I got the almond croissant. It was flakey and had a good amount of almond flavor. Yummmmm! Definitely a great place to get some heart coffee and pastries for cheap ($2.50)! Give them a chance y'all! read more

Good food, but weird service - and not in a good way. I've been meaning to try it out for a while... Couldn't go in person because parking was always a challenge. My partner and I decided to order delivery via Uber Eats instead. We ordered a chai, a matcha, two breakfast sandwiches, a scone, and some banana bread. The delivery came with just the food though... The sandwhiche's spicy jelly was such a delicious and unique condiment to add to them. It really highlights the smoky flavors of the bacon. The bread is fluffy and fresh and the avocados were creamy and ripe. The banana bread was melt in your mouth delicious and the scone wasn't dry or chalky! The scone's berry jam was well balanced in it's sweetness and not sacrin tasting like most jams are. Unfortunately, I can't review the drinks because they forgot them! When I say they, I mean both the Uber Eats delivery person and the employees of the store. I know this to be the case because upon discovering the missing drinks, I called the shop to get more information. When they answered the phone, a gentleman answered and sounded... "off." Like, when I tried to figure out who I was talking to... he just reiterated his identity as "weird wave" himself - not the shop. So I'm a little weirded out now, but play along. I say who I am and what happened. He then blithely explained that he made our order himself, had to step out of the store for a bit, and so he put our drinks in a fridge, and allegedly told another associate to take them out once Uber Eats arrives to pick up the order. It appears that other person forgot... To be fair, the Uber Eats driver also seemingly forgot to confirm the order contents which isn't acceptable for someone who was just tipped 10$ for a 9 minute drive from the shop to our home. While some of this probably sounds innocuous, it was the way the guy represented himself over the phone that's made me doubt this place... I hate to speculate, but frankly, he sounded like maybe he was...eh... "high"? Even if he wasn't, his behavior was still reminiscent of someone who's acting a little bit giggly or silly after getting "stoned." It was, and I truly say this without trying to be ironic - a *weird* experience. Moreover, he never apologized or said sorry, he did however sort of casually offer me a free drink coupon if I drove down there to pick them up. Maybe I'm off Basenotes, but I just got a strange feeling from him, and decided it wasn't worth it to go down there. First impressions are everything, most people don't return after having a bad experience somewhere they've never been before. I'd like to go try this place again, but I'll go in person next time. If I do, I'll be sure to update my review at that time. It seems like I'm in the minority from the largely positive reviews. THE BEST CHAI HANDS DOWN!!! Just left this amazing place and I just about chugged my chai. Such great quality. I'm a mega coffee/Chai lover and this seriously made me smile. Even my hubby that isn't a chai drinker loved it. Also, the breakfast open face sandwich is to die for. It's just perfect for breakfast. There was a party in my mouth with all the flavors mixing. How amazing is this place?! It's like they plucked a shop from Venice Beach and placed it right there in Boyle heights. The owner is so nice and passionate about his coffee and pastry making. It's great to see that this isn't just another way to make a living for them but that they are passionate and take the time to present the artistic essence of coofee rught in a cup. So many beautiful layers and aromas fill yours senses. They have beautiful blends that I've never tried and I would suggest trying a few before you leave. You won't regret it!
