Maybe it's just this Ashland store, but the amount of salad has been less than satisfactory. Today's salad was about 30-40% less than a few years ago. It used to fill to the edges of the container and be slightly "mounded" above the container level. These last few were well below the rim and well inside its efges. Yes, I've asked for more veg/rice, and yes I know the protein is 4oz, but I shouldn't have to ask... based on past salads. And the dressing?! /2 oz at the most (see picture). The cactus and vegetables and grilled queso were flavorful. The sauce tied everything together and the bacon wrapped shrimp was so yummy. In addition to a giant bowl of flavor, we got a plate of rice, beans, guac/sour cream/pico, and tortillas. The inside was clean and had some fun decor. The team taking care of us was attentive. On one brunch visit, my wife ordered their chilaquiles, and I ordered the chicken fried steak, which is a breakfast favorite of mine at other locations. We were both quite happy with what we received. The chilaquiles were well sauced with excellent flavors and ingredient balance across all of the common elements. They did a really great job, and it would definitely be a reorder in the future. The chicken fried steak, served with a fresh biscuit and ample sausage gravy, was superb value and also delivered. I did find the gravy a touch peppery for my taste, but that was my only real complaint. Portion size was great, and the biscuit is truly top-notch. I have since returned for the biscuits and gravy, and it's definitely a highlight. On a separate visit, we tried their Huevos Rancheros, and it's the best we've found around town. So, a lot of hits to be discovered on the menu. If you're in this area of town, or even if you're not, the Oak Tree is a great place if you are looking for a nice diner experience, especially for breakfast. I just didn't realize the place could give Wild Goose and other locations a run for their money.
