I sincerely wish I did not have to write a review for Cal Pet. I lost my beloved 14 year old cocker spaniel, Mr. B last Saturday evening. My vet asked me if I wanted individual or group cremation...I wanted my sweet babys individual ashes. My vet contacted Cal Pet directly. The very next day Cal Pet contacted me and gave me the low down on what to expect. They give you the option of delivering the ashes or having them sent to your vet. They also have a website where you can choose an urn if you would like. I also asked if they would send a lock of hair, which they did. It was $150 for the service. What wonderful, compassionate folks at Cal Pet. I would recommend them to anyone. RIP big boy!! Mama misses you! read more

No one wants to talk about death (especially me), but, unfortunately, it happens to everyone, including our beloved pets. I am not trying to be morbid by writing this review, but I did lose my Libby-girl a week ago and ...having used this service 12 years ago when two precious felines passed away... I just wanted to commend Cal Pet for having caring, prompt service once again. I was informed that each pet is cremated separately, so there is no chance that the ashes you get back belong to another animal. They pick up from your vet and then return the ashes sealed in a metal container back to the vet. I was surprised to find out that there is no law preventing the burial or scattering of cremated pet remains. It is perfectly legal and acceptable. I recently lost my furry best friend and it was one of the hardest things I've had to go through. Calpet was recommended to me by my vet's office and as soon as I called them, they arranged a pick up time. It's $40 for pick up and delivery of ashes back to your home. I was somewhat scared about the pick up but when the guy came, he was very respectful in the way he handled my ACE and he was very patient and understanding with me and my family's grief. The following day, I called and asked if I can bring my own urn to place the ashes and they told me to come on in. I thought I was only going to drop off the urn but I was able to bring ACE back home that day. read more

This was my first experience with any pet crematory. My vet made the arrangements directly with Cal Pet for the transfer and cremation of my cat. Since I read in the reviews that some customers had waited a long time to hear from Cal Pet, or encountered problems with home delivery of the ashes, I decided to call and let them know that I would be coming in person to collect the ashes and select an urn. Everything went smoothly and I even received a small discount on the urn. The staff was friendly but not overly effusive, very much as you experience at a human funeral home. They inquired about my cat and had some kind words. While I was there, a family came with their dog that had passed away. A staff member went to the car to gently retrieve the pet in its bed, covered with a blanket. It was a sad thing to see, but I had a heartwarming moment with the family, talking about our pets together. And I do believe that Cal Pet treats the deceased animals with respect. All in all, a positive experience during a difficult time, and service provided at a very reasonable price. read more

Unfortunately no one wants to write a review when they have to say goodbye to a loved one. I am just so thankful for a place like Cal Pet. I am the "animal guy" with my friends, so I have been here a number of times, bringing my friends pets/loved ones. Every time it has been extremely professional, extremely polite and extremely accommodating. This week it was my turn to bring my best friend there. I can go on and on about how much my dog meant to me, but honestly, if he didn't I wouldn't be writing this review - I would have let the vet handle everything. I do not know if it's common practice in other cities to have a public crematory for animals, but I am so thankful that we have Cal Pet. My boy weighed approx 130 lbs when he passed and I know the routine by now, I walk in and let them know that I will need the gurney. The family (I believe it's a family run business) is so respectful,.. actually I don't think that word is correct - but I'm still grieving and not much on adjectives right now. let me just say this.. they will take care of you and your friend. They will handle everything with understanding and compassion. I wish I could find the right words to describe how great Cal Pet has been in the past with my friends animals, and now with me having to bring my big baby boy to them, I truly appreciate them even more. I had to say goodbye to my best friend, my bulldog Admiral Halsey, the Friday before memorial day. I came home to find a collapsed dog with a cold, white mouth. I rushed him to the emergency vet, but there was nothing they could do. I had nearly 13 years with my baby, 4 longer than breed life expectancy. I wasn't about to let him suffer. It was hard. The emergency vet asked if I wanted him cremated. Of course! I can't stand the thought of my baby being put in a plastic bag and dumped in the "dead animal" mass garbage. He's coming home with me, one way or the other. When I heard he was going to Cal PEt, I was relieved. I'd seen thier ads in a local paper and, as many old pet owners do, looked them up online. The reviews were great. I called them as soon as I could bear to. The man on the phone was warm, caring and wonderful. He personally called me after the cremation to let me know how Halsey's ashes would be presented when I went to pick them up. He offered support. He offered concern and condolences. I get the feeling he would have stayed on the phone for an hour or longer, if I needed him to. I can tell they truly care about animals, owners and making hard times easier for both. read more

The people at this location are loving, and kind. The urns they give are beautiful - and you can actually watch your little loved one be cremated (if you can stomach it and want to make sure they're not just tossing sand into the urn) and directly placed into the urn. I found-out this is run by a family continuing the business from their uncle, whom himself believed furry souls deserved a resting place as much as people. When he passed-away his nieces and nephews took-on the mantra - and I stumbled into them through my vet's recommendation as my two sweet furry souls passed-on - April 2011 and then Jan 2013. Finding the location is difficult - it's a cute house tucked-next to a scrap yard - !!! Drive into a bumpy drive-way for 30 yards to the left of a scrap yard and you will end-up at this beautiful little house in a cul-de-sac. The uncle / originator's grave is itself tucked-under a lemon tree next to the ample parking lot. Also as noted in reviews before, call and double call *the location* directly to make sure things are exactly as you need them .. Be it paw prints or you name it. They do a lot of business so double make sure.. if not show-up and tell them in person. read more

Cal Pet- A business I never hoped to use twice or 3 times but the time is the inevitable here is my review: I first used Cal Pet 8 yrs ago when our beloved Lucky passed away after 20yrs. Cal pet was easy to deal with and they were very professional about everything. 8yrs later I found myself calling them to schedule a private cremation of my 8yr old sweet Maltese "Baby" her death was sudden and unexpected. I called Cal pet and Linda was so sympathetic and understand and most of all PATIENT with me. She even let me take my time picking out a beautiful urn. When and If you choose to be present when they cremate your beloved four legged family member and you drive up to the business you kinda get taken back a little because of the surrounding business's. BUT once you walk in everything is so clean and friendly. The company is a family owned business and Craig Linda's son was SO helpful during my difficult time I was able to say goodbye to my Baby and took as long as i wanted he even let me watch as she got gently placed in the oven. I can go on and on but I wont.... I recommend Cal Pet if you ever find yourself in this situation as many of us have. read more

Our beloved Bonnie Bell had been with us for approximately 12 years. She came into our lives when life decisions were before us. Quickly becoming a part of our Family, we now believe, was her intent. Please forgive me, I merely wanted you to get the picture of just how much she meant, and will always mean to us. So you can only imagine receiving the news that she had expired while I was away from home and our Son enroute home from being out of town. Unbelievable sorrow...nevertheless, knowing that each and everyone here at your establishment treated us with love and compassion was what was needed at that time in our lives. Saying good bye is never easy. But from the "hello" to the "we can have someone pick up Bonnie and deliver her remains back to you as quickly as possible", was beyond what I expected. My mommy dog Twixie 16yo passed away 1wk ago very early a.m. I was not ready, however much i thought i will be. I searched for a facility & Cal Pet came up. I called & left msg very early morning. They called back as soon as they opened. Gabriel attended to Twixie's service. He was very consoling. I was apologizing how cryful I was, he said "it was never easy". Simple & yet it made me feel, they understand. The 3 poodles (I only got Morgan & Dolly's name) were very therapeutic. One stayed at my side all the time & laid her head on my lap -- as if telling me "it's going to be ok". Mark & Linda were very understanding. They all have been kind, compassionate & specially, respectful. They respected Twixie until the last moment. The paw print in pouch & complimentary ash box (urn) were well done & tasteful. I never felt that it's "just a business as usual" for them. Until on my way out to bring Twixie "back home", Linda & Gabriel walked me out w/ comforting words. I have big problems with the funeral industry in general. You have to deal with people who have the ethics of used car dealers. But at least with a car dealer you can walk out off the lot. Here you have to make a lot of permanent decisions in three days, and under a great deal of stress. We have used Cal Pet Crematory four times. They were recommended by our vet. During these trying times you do not want to comparison shop. We have taken care of everything through our vet. The last time I got a call from someone on the Cal Pet staff. He was nice, helpful and did not try to up-sell anything. During your grief the last thing you need to deal with is RED TAPE. read more

Last year my beloved Taño passed after suddenly discovering he had cancer. I was in shock. After 20 years together! I chose Cal Pet because I liked that I could be present for the cremation. I went there some days before to get familiar with the route etc. I stopped in and told them I just wanted to get familiar with the place. Despite the location being a bit crude behind a scrap yard, inside was warm and comforting. The contrast almost seemed poetic actually. We talked about urns and i may have mentioned brown because they showed me a brown box and I said it was perfect since brown is Taño's beautiful color! They said that they could set it aside for me and Taño. When i returned with Taño they let me do a brief memorial with candles and music. I had arrived extra early for this opportunity. And extra early also because I was so anxious and emotional. I wanted to do what I could to help this process run as smoothly as possible and the LAST thing I wanted was to cut it too close with the time! Anyway.... The candles didn't stay lit because of the breeze which again I choose to see as poetic. I was there while they put Taño in for cremation. I'm the type that wants to be involved with every step and Cal Pet allowed me to fulfill this part of my grieving process. I also got a wonderful print of Taño's cute paw. Taño's remains in his brown box and paw print were kindly presented to me after a brief wait in their lobby. I miss you so much Taño! Next week I am heartbroken to say that I'm returning again! to Cal Pet when I take Taño's precious brother Quito. The sweetest creature who kept going and going beyond any time I ever thought possible. It was just the 2 of us for just over seven months. I miss you so much Quito! I'm grateful that Cal Pet exists because of my very positive experience with them during the most painful surreal time(s) in my life. I experienced each staff member as compassionate, gentle and kind. The fact that they are much more affordable than other places just makes this process a bit more manageable. $115 for private cremation, time for a brief memorial & witnessing + additional costs for paw prints or special urn. Just remember to take out your furry/feathered/scale-y baby from the freezer the night before if you want a paw print (so they can get a good print). read more

How these people do this for a living is beyond me. Losing an animal is the hardest thing and these people have to deal with all of our grief. The staff is ALWAYS caring, patient and make you feel ok about mourning your pet. I have used them for 10 years now and would not go anywhere else. I trust they treat my pets with respect and I trust it is my pets ashes I am getting back. They are tucked behind a car junkyard which can be a bit weird but once you get in their office it is a beautiful peaceful place. I was there today to have my amazing little bird "Bubbie" cremated. This was my first time doing this kind of thing and didn't know what to expect. Of course I couldn't stop crying! The ladies that run the office were lovely. They were kind and caring. They asked me about my boy and allowed me the time to talk about him and show them my photos. It feels pretty odd writing a review for this place, but I thought I might as well. My 15-year-old labrador retriever passed away a little over a week ago, and we had our vet take her to Cal Pet Crematory and have her ashes returned to us. It was pretty rapid--I just picked up her ashes today. They came in a tin within a fairly attractive, golden fabric-covered box. I'm going to trust these are her individual ashes--I did take a look and found little pieces of bone inside. How very surreal. They also include some nice touches, like the "Rainbow Bridge" poem. We love her, and miss her, and I'm very glad I decided to have her ashes sent back to me. I think I will keep them in my home instead of burying them or releasing them, as I had initially thought I'd do. Here's to our beloved pets...rest in peace. read more

First for Oslo the Hamster and then a year or so later for Pookie the Cat. Both times they staff was understanding and compassionate. They're respectful and polite, they provide this service for a relatively low cost and it's all done rather quickly. They were incredibly kind, picked her up from the vet and then returned her remains to me directly. At what was a terrible few days re the need for Cal Pet, I cannot say enough positive remarks for this family business. From the first initial phone calls with Gabriel, he put my mind at ease, giving me all the information I needed as well as he followed through with all the arrangements we discussed. Shane was responsible for placing the orders, really understood what a difficult time it was for me, following up on different ideas I had for this process, and he was timely in taking care of my orders. He promised the day I could pick up my orders at our vet.... and everything was done, as I had hoped. I was heartbroken and absolutely devastated when I had to put my fur child Kobe down last weekend. My vet recommended Cal Pet so I called them ahead of time to make sure they were planning to do a private cremation and ask other questions I had. Jim was kind, sympathetic and very professional. As promised, they took good care of my Kobe and I had his ashes back in an urn I picked out a few days after they picked him up from my vet's office. They also included a beautiful poem called Rainbow Bridge with Kobe's remains and packaged up everything so beautifully. Kobe was such a special dog to me and I wanted to make sure I was giving him a proper send off on his final journey home. With Cal Pet, I was able to do just that. I also have a wonderful paw print of Kobe's they did (for $20) in terracotta which I will treasure forever. I hate to say that I unfortunately used the CAL PET Crematory because of the loss of our dog "Spotty" was difficult. I know the circle of life thing, but our baby was seriously ill and eventually succumbed to organ failure. Our emergency vet recommended this place so we decided to do it. To be honest, I forgot the cost(I wanna guess $100 or so but will update if I find the receipt). The process includes retrieving your pet from our vets office, performing the service and returning the ashes. A couple of days after our Vet called and said "Spotty" was ready to go home. CPC delivered "Spotty" in a cardboard, suede like covered box with his ashes in a sealed plastic bag. We didn't get the traditional urns but decided to make our own. I recommend this place if you decide to bring your pets "back home". We will definitely use this service again ;) We miss you Spotty Boy! Keep on Yelping read more

When we lost our Luci in November, even though we knew it was time, it was very hard to say goodbye. We've lost pets before and after a few weeks, we would get a call from our vet to stop by and pick up their ashes. It is bittersweet--just when you think you're getting through, there is that reminder of one more visit to the place where you had to say goodbye for the last time. But this time, Cal Pet gave us a call in the morning that they would be in our area and would be happy to deliver the urn with Luci's remains. The gentleman (gentle man) who came to our door could not have been more compassionate and sensitive, and we were very touched. I wasn't expecting to reviewing a dog crematory this month but here we are. They were super caring and compassionate when I lost my dog. They called me a couple days after he past we chatted about what I wanted done. They gave me a price and the bill came two days later. Their prices are so much cheaper than what I expected. I paid for my dogs cremations and picked hem up the day after. They gave me a very professional cardboard box with my name his name their company name and both of our phone numbers. I got home and opened it up and it was more beautiful than I expected. I didn't think they were going to put him in a cute white paper mache box with flowers. It was such a nice touch since I haven't decided on what urn to get for him. God for bid if you have to use a pet crematory, do yourself a favor and call them immediately. This is extremely hard to write this review. My sweet baby boy Charlie left me way too soon. He was only 2 and I witnessed him get hit by a car. The worst day of my life. Laurel pet hospital recommended cal pet crematory. Thank you God. I was so heartbroken and scared that I would get some random dog back. But when I held my babies ashes I knew it was him, I felt him. Cal pet made this a positive experience, they were so sweet when they called me to tell me they picked Charlie up. They also delivered him earlier than expected so I was so happy. The people at Cal Pet Crematory made one of the saddest days I've ever experienced a little bit easier. A rushed and terrifying home euthanasia took my dog almost instantly the previous day. I don't know why I didn't insist on having more time to say goodbye before letting the vet take my dog away but after she drove off I had a hard time accepting the fact that he was gone. Cal pet crematory allowed me to see him one last time before he was cremated. I realize it was an odd request but they were very understanding. Even though my dog was already gone, being able to say goodbye without the pressure of a vet standing there waiting to stick a needle in him helped give me some sense of closure. I have used Cal Pet Crematory on two separate occasions and they were excellent. I was able to select the perfect Urn for each of my cats. For the first one, I had planned an at home visit from my vet and the driver from Cal Pet was there within the hour. For my second, the picked up was arranged at my vets as my little girl cat became ill very suddenly and needed to be relieved of her pain immediately. I have used Calpet for many years. My cat just passed away she was 17 years old. It was very hard losing her. But Cal pet lost her for a couple of weeks. I was unable to find out where she was. I got the run around from stupid people at Calpet saying as an excuse that they had just sold the business and I had to spell my cats name at least a dozen times to them which it was nothing unusual to spell and they still gave me the run around and excuses. They said they would notify me when my kitty was shipped and they didn't! I found out through fedex that they needed a signature which I was never told when they would deliver. So I finally was able to have her delivered to a fedex store. I just picked her up, looked in the box and there was a certificate with her name spelled wrong again! I can't believe how incompetent Calpet is and I will never use them again!!!!!!! By the way it took 3 weeks to finally get my kitty after all their mess ups!!! read more

Fantastic service. They are a breathe of fresh air at a time when you are suffering greatly. Linda (in the office), Rick (pick up) and Will (drop off) were obviously animal lovers and I felt their concern was genuine for the family at the passing of a beloved pet. They explained the process and it was the right thing for us to do. Private, individual cremation with a home pick up and ashes drop off. Get the paw prints, I was so happy I did.
