A second location to get Blackhole Bakery baked goods?? Sign me up. Tucked away on 45th St in the row of antique shops, West Plaza Bodega is a walkable neighborhood gem. There is typically plenty of parking along 45th St or on the side streets in the neighborhood. They sell a small collection of niche food items like condiments, sauces, locally milled flour, and snacks. For a large space with bodega in the name, I was expecting more shelves stocked with goods, but they make up for it with the pastries and coffee sold behind the counter. We now have a second location to enjoy Blackhole Bakery pastries, and I can definitely see the selection getting picked over on the weekends later in the day. They have a good amount of seating inside to chat and drink coffee and enjoy your treats. They had Kit's Diner popping up with breakfast sandwiches, and I am desperately sad that it wasn't a permanent fixture because that sausage egg and cheese sandwich was one of the best of my life. Hopefully they will add a permanent breakfast food option soon because that would really make West Plaza Bodega perfect.

Cool coffee shop with bakery items in west plaza. Loved the vintage style decor and the repurposed MCI chairs. I had a chai latte. The pastries looked amazing. My friend had a blueberry pastry. He said it was delicious. Garage door is cool, opened up makes the shop feel airy and inviting. Staff were friendly and plenty of street parking around there.

The location, interior, and vibe is awesome! It's a great place to bring the family or to make a pit stop if walking around the neighborhood or checking out the shops in the west plaza. This 2 star rating pertains to the coffee. They use MAPS coffee and have specific blends they use and I think they may have a blend unique for them from MAPS coffee for certain things. But, I am not a fan of their espresso. The beans tasted burnt, overly bitter, very pungent and harsh. I got a hot americano and had to dump it out. A pour over of some kind would be final test to the roasters beans. Cool place to check out if your looking for Black Hole Bakery products and a place to gather with some friends. If you're into coffee and looking unique flavors, expressive notes, and tasty beans then I'd suggest coffee elsewhere.

A size small coffee, definitely smaller than typical. Still delicious.

I love black hole bakery so finding out they have a second location selling their bakery items and that it is in my neighborhood was an amazing way to start my day. The interior is very cute and spacious and there were a ton of unique seasonal drink options. The baristas were friendly and I will definitely be back. My only warning would be that a small size coffee is genuinely very small - smaller than a little hand lotion container for comparison.

As I was approaching West Plaza Bodega, a gentleman walking out the door shouted my name; it was an old friend that I hadn't seen in 30 years. After hugs and catching up with our lives, I walked inside and my favorite song by my favorite band was playing. It appears that all the good energy was gathering and just waiting for me to arrive at what instantly became my favorite coffee shop.Tucked into a residential neighborhood just off of State-Line Rd in an old abandoned building with rock walls that has thoroughly been modernized and decorated with mid-century artifacts and a variety of seating option. Very hip and welcoming - a place to sip and smile. Being owned by Blackhole Bakery is a definite positive since you know that you are getting the freshest and best tasting pastries in the city - although my arrival at 2pm on a Sunday there was only one sad and lonely croissant left on the counter. My barista said that they receive 300 baked goods each morning, so plan accordingly. My charming barista also made me a delicious "foo foo'" drink - apricot pistachio latte. Made with pureed apricots and espresso beans sourced from one my favorite coffee shop/roasters in town - Maps Coffee in Lenexa. A perfect beverage for a Sunday afternoon treat and pick me up. They are true to their "bodega" name with a large assorted variety of packages goods - sauces, oils, candy, snacks, pastas... everything that a person living in the neighborhood might need for a quick lunch or a gourmet dish without having to drive to the supermarket. Totally jealous of not having anything equivalent where I live. They are planning breakfast / brunch sandwich pop-ups while they prepare to start operating their kitchen themselves soon. Eager to return and get me cool MD2020 t-shirt - Mochi donut. Great product, people and vibe.

easily one of the best new places in kc. i'm a big fan of black hole bakery, and having a location that's a little closer with more seating is so nice. I got the apricot pistachio latte and it was amazing. The pastries are delicious as always, and the staff was super friendly and helpful.

I remember back in 2011 when I worked at the Nelson we were absolutely starved for a great local coffee house to open up nearby. We had Latte Land on the plaza but parking over there was always nuts and to just pop in and grab a coffee we'd often end up over at KCAI. When Crow's opened while I was away in graduate school I remember my former colleagues gushing about it - saying it had finally happened and a good shop had opened. They weren't wrong. Here we are, probably 10 years (ish) since they first opened their doors and they are still serving the need for fantastic local coffee in this part of KC. On my most recent visit I popped in for a coffee to take with me to a meet at UMKC and I was reminded at how great this spot is. While there are many more great coffee options nearby these days you can't fail to remember Crows and I look forward to my next visit!

Even with the crowd it was not noisy at all and I was able to settle in and get plenty of work done. I ordered an iced oat milk latte with an extra shot of espresso and it was delicious. The coffee flavor really came through and was perfectly prepared. The staff was also very friendly and helpful which made the experience even better. I will definitely be back.

We loved the little set up with a great amount of seating, a clean bathroom, and outlets for people who want to study or get some work done. We were a little hungry and got the empanadas and both tried the Yerba mate. We've never had the traditional yerba mate and were excited we could try it here. Once our order was ready one of the employees was happy to explain to us how to properly drink the yerba mate. She was patient, kind, and professional the whole time. There's definitely a trick to drinking it without getting the tea leaves through the straw. As we enjoyed our snack and drink we could tell the caffeine kicks in a little later. So, if you're up to trying traditional yerba mate, be aware that you'll get a gradual burst of energy a little later. I personally loved the decor and the atmosphere here. They had little knick knacks you could purchase, a small refrigerator with items to take with you as well. I got a couple of key chains for my sister and myself and my boyfriend and I have already noted that we want to come back here the next time we're in Kansas City!

This might be a hot take but I found Chambre Coffee to be underwhelming on my first visit. I was…read moreultimately really excited to check them out though, which maybe is playing part in my overall disappointment? To begin with, Chambre Coffee is located inside of the old Westport Coffeehouse building. I have many memories of the old coffeehouse, including a first date with my now husband, so it holds some nostalgia for me. Despite that, I would be the first to say it was time for a new cafe to take the reigns in this location and after seeing so many hyped reviews I was really excited to come and see what the new spot was all about. When I pulled up I could see the new minimalist branding and I was honestly really surprised at how different the entire cafe looked inside. It's hard to describe but it somehow feels smaller, despite having way less furniture. I ordered some kind of specialty drink and sat down at a table. I have to say a big part of my lower rating is that I just didn't care for the ambiance. It was so quiet, with hardly anybody else working, that you could hear a pin drop. It just felt awkward to sit there and take a meeting like I was about to do. There is also way less seating and it just felt sort of cold in there. The old spot had its flaws, but it was nearly always busy with people studying, meeting up, reading a book, etc, it had strong coffee shop vibes, and I'm missing that here. The coffee itself was okay - I think I'd try something else next time. Overall, it was just okay. I would like to return sometime and give them another go. Maybe with a more friendly barista, and some light music in the background I'll have a different experience. Wishing this new business all the best though, and hope to return to give them another try.
