This place is HUGE and they've got every and anything horse related that you need. From controlling your horse to controlling the flies, they've got you covered. If you don't see it, just ask. Every single employee is friendly and helpful. The day that we shopped there happened to be 2 gorgeous dogs working the floor as well. There is a nice selection of riding clothes/outfits/helmets/gear and casual western wear. They even have greeting cards if you happen to purchase a gift for the horse lover in your life. When we say it's like the Costco for horse supplies, we aren't kidding! Whenever I come in, I always feel welcomed. The staff are knowledgeable and exceedingly polite-- often opposite the treatment I receive at other stores. I've come in to purchase as much as a mountain of clothes and horse supplies and as little as a pair of gloves or a bag of treats. I still receive the same treatment regardless. Recently, my fiancé (who is decidedly NOT horsey), inquired after picking up a single stall mat for his workout setup here at home. As we are currently sheltering in place, phoning in the order to Western and pickup were simple and well managed. We are thankful they have taken measures to keep everyone involved safe and hope that they continue to be safe in this difficult time. I came in needing some horseshoe nails for non-horsey reasons. I don't really know anything about horses or nails, but the guy was patient, and showed me a few samples. When I said I only really wanted 6 nails, but would buy a box, he just handed me the six and said "no charge". It makes me want to go back and find something to buy. read more

I went just a couple of days ago and these were their hours: M-F 7am-5pm Sat 7am-2pm Closed on Sundays I went inside the warehouse and was naturally lost. At first, I could only see a room full of bulk items and some whips, gloves and miscellaneous items hanging around. I was totally disappointed and thought, "wow that's all they have?!". Then a friendly young man must have noticed I was very confused and asked if there was anything I was looking for. I told him I was looking for some surgical scrub and he was like, "right this way!" ...............then he led me through this hallway and BAM it became equine supplies galore! Turns out they have a few more rooms in the back and they are loaded with all sorts of things: horse care products, barn supplies, girths, rider apparel, boots, bridles, halters and more. Despite its name, they carry English tack as well. I don't remember if I saw any saddles, though (may want to check ahead if that's what you're looking for). Service was excellent - they were helpful and extremely friendly without being intrusive or pushy. It wasn't too hard to find (I mean...we all have smartphones these days right?) They also have free parking in their own lot but if that gets full then there's street parking, too. Definitely recommend this store for your equine needs! read more

They bend over backwards to provide GREAT customer service! My wife had bought a pair of English riding boots here within the last year, and a couple of weeks ago, one of the zippers broke/jammed while she was wearing them. She thought they were going to have to cut the zipper to get it off, but with hard work and a pair of pliers, they got it down and got the boot off. She asked me to try and get the zipper repaired/replaced and someone recommended a place in Dublin. The Yelp reviews on that place weren't very good, so I decided to call WS to see if they could recommend a repair place. I talked to a very nice lady and she said to bring them in and since they were less than a year old, they might be able to replace them. I brought them in and working with Pete, found that this boot model had been discontinued. He said to just leave them with my name and phone number and he'd call the manufacturer's vendor rep and see what the replacement model was. Within 3 days, Pete called me and said they had the replacement model boots in, and I could pick them up anytime. I picked them up the following day, and there was no cost to me. Kudos to Pete and WS and also to the boot manufacturer, Ariat, for going out of their way to please their customers. read more

They established a warehouse in an industrial building in Pleasanton, and sold out of vans on the racetrack. But you can go to the warehouse and buy direct. They have an incredible selection of everything under the sun, and most of it is very good quality, especially the tack. Do not go in the glass entrance; go around the side through the warehouse door, and then shop til you drop. Grocery carts are available, but beware! In this Costco of tack stores, you'll fill up your cart. 10% discount for cash, so be sure to tell the clerk who rings you up. The staff can help you find things that are tucked away on shelves. There is even a good selection of farrier equipment and some feed, although the feed is a hassle because you have to pull it all of the way through the store. Love this place .. it's like a diamond in the rough. They are always helpful and I love that they don't get in your way when you are shopping. If they don't have something, ask and they will either give you a recommendation or do their best to get it for you. Outstanding, professional and efficient customer service! I called the store inquiring about the purchase of 140 size 0 horseshoes. (Ironically, my own horse is a size 0 as well.) I felt a little sheepish calling up with this request, but let me tell you Adam couldn't have been nicer or more gracious! He checked out what he had in inventory, gave me a few less-expensive options (at my request, since these weren't going ON the horse), and told me that with my current timeline, they could order anything I needed in any quantity. Couldn't have had a nicer experience. I'm heading up there this weekend to peruse the shoes, load up on LMF for my own horse and a local rescue org, and meet with Adam to go over shoe options. I've always gone to the little branch they have at the racetrack, so when they said they "probably had *whatever item I happened to be looking for that day* back at the warehouse," I was picturing a small shipping warehouse. Amazing customer service along with everything for your horse. I had ordered a pair of riding boots for my daughter when I realized that it was getting closer and closer to her show date and still had not received the call that the boots were in. I called Western Saddlery they checked and said the boots were on their way but wouldn't make it by when I needed them. They ordered an other pair and had them mailed via air. I went to the store And picked up the boots. I thanked them for being so kind and thoughtful. To care enough to order another pair of boots so I received them in time for the Reno show. Wish they carried a larger variety of riding apparel/sizes, and more blankets to choose from so I didn't have to shop anywhere else ever (hint hint, carry Irideons in all sizes please for me and more mens' english stuff for the hubby.. especially boots...we'd rather spend our hard earned money in your store..) These guys are so great, and even when I say I don't need any help, they still put my grain in my car for me (I hate to admit it, but I have a horrible back so I am really glad they do this for me without me having to ask...) I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I have been riding horses in the East Bay for 20 years, and we have shopped here for 15+ years. This is a local family owned and operated place, and you can tell they take pride in their store! Frank and his sons are extremely knowledgeable when it comes to choosing a grain and supplements for your horse, and will help you determine what is best due to breed, discipline and age. I feed LMF brand grain, and very few places in the area carry it. They ALWAYS have it in stock and plenty of it! (not to mention it is the best price I have ever found) To answer another users question they do sell saddles! They even will take one on commission to sell for you! I don't think I can think of anything they DO NOT sell, and typically they have the best prices around. You can buy everything for horse and rider here whether you ride English or Western. I cannot recommend this place enough, and love the personal care they give each and every client! They are there if you need help, but let you shop in peace. I was referred to this place by my favorite saddlery, Christianson's when they didn't have a boot size for my son. I arrived with my special needs teenage son and we hovered around the boot area for over 10 min. There appeared to be 3-4 people working there. One standing around chatting (gossiping) with some customers. I know they knew we were there, because my son with autism kept repeating himself and employee (a man) was a few feet away. Since we were not being helped, I tried to find his boots on my own. We were completely being ignored. I loudly said, "Come on Buddy, lets check on-line and they don't seem to want to help us, anyway." I ended up ordering his $150 Ariat boots online. After this one experience, I will continue to shop at Christianson's and Happy Trails in Pleasanton. read more

As a new horse owner I was relieved to find the walmart/Superstore of horse supplies--everything and anything in one convenient location with everyday low prices(!)--most of the time. This place has every supply you will ever need for your horse(s), however, you might be able to find it a little bit cheaper somewhere else. I've noticed they either have really good deals (grain, brushes, halters) or their prices are unbelievably high (their tack) and don't have a huge selection, especially their english tack. Their staff is always friendly and willing to help a confused customer (me). Go and check it out, this place is great for small stuff and any last minute thing you may need for a show etc. read more

As others have said this is the Costco of horse supply stores. A former BF once called Christensen's/Shaws in Cupertino "Fry's for horses". LOL. Unfortunately, Shaw's closed suddenly in late 2008 when the financial crisis hit, and it left many in the Bay Area (and especially the south bay) with a problem trying to find a new tack store. So far, nothing like Shaws has reappeared. At that time, Western Saddlery had a retail location in San Mateo, and a warehouse in Pleasanton. They closed the retail store in San Mateo when Bay Meadows (RIP) closed, and moved everything to Pleasanton. It's a WAREHOUSE folks. Don't expect it to look like a retail store! You will enter thru warehouse doors directly into a warehouse, and you may wonder if you are in the right place and if it's OK to just walk around - yep, its OK! Wander back in thru the various rooms to find all the different things they carry. If you are looking for something specific, just ask. The folks are really nice and will gladly take you back and show you where to find the things you are looking for, answer questions, etc. They focus on horse CARE items rather than horse RIDING items. Yes, their tack and apparel selections are limited (just as the clothing options at Costco are limited). However, they carry 1001 types of fly spray, conditioners, brushes, blankets, buckets, supplements, hoof boots, horse shoes and nails, halters, etc. WAY more horse care selections to choose from (a plethora of products, a plethora of sizes) than you find in most retail stores. Need Easyboots? They carry every size, every type (and competitive brand) you can imagine. Try that at your local retail tack store. Secret savings - pay in CASH and get a discount! Make a stop at the ATM before you head out and pay with cash instead of putting it on plastic. read more

An older gentlemen asked if we needed help finding anything and he was so helpful and knowledgable about everything we needed. I agree! It's the Costco of the horse world. I've been frequenting Western Saddlery for years, driving from Oakland. Then I found out they have a trailer at Golden Gate Fields and if you call a day in advance, they will bring ANYTHING from the Pleasanton warehouse for you to pick up. GGF office opens at (?) dawn and closes at noon. Great for a before work pick up! I also like the fact that they support the California Dressage Society by opening the warehouse for a private sale twice a year. I'm a die hard fan. read more

So I read the reviews but I still called and went to the shop. They were unbelievably kind and helpful. Like the customer service was impressive. I call ahead of time to ask for their selection of western saddle pads and the guy that answered was very helpful(he physically got up and counted the different styles that they had). Then when I show up to the store I get greeted by a nice lady who asks me if I need help and I ask her where the western saddle pads are. She tells me where they are and I begin my search. 15-20 minutes later the lady comes back to ask me if I have any questions or need help finding a certain one! No one has ever done that to me anywhere! . She then spent a good 35-40 minutes talking to me about my saddle and my options on whether or not I should get it oiled to look darker as I have a cherry dark colored saddle that I need to have darkened because I wanted to make it into a show saddle. When I went to go check out another employee asked if I needed help finding something. I needed beet pulp and had no idea where to find it and what it looked like. He said oh ok definitely did you want pellets or powder and how many bags (in a very appealing happy tone) and he also said no worries I will have someone bring it to the front and help you put it into your car.
