    Country Breakfast

This was my first time going to the West Side Diner. The food is much cheaper than most sit down breakfast restaurants in the West Lafayette area. The portions are also large. All the food tasted great but the biscuits and gravy came out looking questionable. It was still very good! I recommend coming here if you want a quality homemade tasting breakfast that won't break the bank!

Another good breakfast spot in West Lafayette. More diner type of feel, service was fine, you pay up at the bar and there is usually a wait to get seated. Parking is in a small lot. Food was good I didn't have any complaints other then my pancake and my husband's biscuits & gravy came out way late, nothing to rave about but also not disappointed at all.

This is the biggest cinnamon roll I've ever had honestly. It was so soft and delicious. I got it as takeout and the icing came separately so I got to add it to my taste. I loved eating it so much. I will say that when we went there to pick up our order, it was ridiculously busy and we had to wait so long to get our food and we didn't order much so just be prepared for a wait. There is a place to sit and wait but it felt like people were walking around everywhere. I didn't really feel like the service was too considerate but the food is good. I also get the biscuits and gravy from here and find them so delicious.

My only trip to WD was for breakfast on a very busy Sunday morning. The facility is small. The tables are squeezed together tightly. Unfortunately I sat in what ended up being a high traffic area for everyone. So my chair and coat were constantly being bumped. On top of that the dinner is very loud. You won't find a relaxing meal here. I also found it very odd that people had to enter in behind the counter area to access the restroom. Obviously layout in this dinner could be improved. That said...the meal was pretty good! The menu is decent size. There was enough of the usual breakfast items to pick. I had the corned beef hash and eggs plus a one biscuit side of gravy. The hash was very good - better than most places. The hash didn't have a strong corned beef flavor. However it was cooked to perfection - slight crisp on the edges. I added plenty of Tabasco sauce which cane standard at the table. The gravy was a bit bland. I had to spice up with a lot of pepper. The biscuit was split and "smashed" to the plate. I've never had a biscuit that was so thin. That created a little bit of a tough texture to cut - just odd. I had the sour dough toast which was a bit dry. I had hoped that it was made fresh on site. I don't think it was since it didn't have a fresh and moist flavor. My wife said her English muffin was probably the best she has had (fresh) at a dinner. I was impressed by the POS system used to take and process our order. Very easy to do which created an Informative and fast check out. I was also impressed by the team working here. I saw a lot of teenagers and 20 somethings working. Very few older adults. I assume this is a family business. If so...they did an excellent job at hiring and training good employees. Our waitress was very attentive as she could be on a busy day. There was a lot of staff on hand to handle the rush. I was most impressed with the bus boy who wiped the crumbs from the table into his hand instead of onto the floor. This young man frequently washed his hands throughout the shift (as the sink was in view of the whole dining room). I definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a fast paced dinner experience.

But I was visiting West Lafayette, and it was morning, and I was feeling a little "under the weather," as my Polish grandmother would say when she went too hard on the Bud Lites the night before. So breakfast at Triple XXX it was, because I could walk there from the Purdue campus, and this restaurant is a West Lafayette institution. I got the Triple XXX Breakfast Special: two over-medium eggs, bacon, fried potatoes and wheat toast. And it was good, you know? It was simple and hearty. I especially liked the fried potatoes. But what really took it over the top is when my server, who was incredibly friendly, told me that she could bring me some root beer jelly to go along with my wheat toast. Record scratch. Say what, lady? Root beer jelly? Yes, Triple XXX makes their own root beer jelly, and they also sell it by the jar. (I bought a jar.) They are famous for their root beer, which is sold nationwide, so I guess it makes sense that they would also make root beer jelly. It tastes exactly the way you would think it would. It tastes like root beer! It's delicious. The seating at this restaurant is interesting: All of the seats are bar seats, and they face the middle of the kitchen. There were no tables or booths that I saw, unless you wanted to go outside and sit at one of the picnic tables on the patio. I liked this seating setup, because I could watch the action happen before my very eyes. The black coffee was very good. It better be, at a place like this! This is the kind of greasy spoon restaurant where old timers stay a while with a cup of coffee and a newspaper. (There were three such people doing something like that when I visited, as a matter of fact.) It's just a comfortable part of the West Lafayette community.

I ordered a double cheeseburger with just ketchup to taste the burger alone. My wife ordered the peanut butter burger, and we ordered curly fries to share. My burger was great, the flavor and quality of the fresh ground steak makes a big difference in the flavor being so good. My wife is a fan of the peanut butter on the burger, and we both like the bun used. We both got root beer, which is a step above all other root beers I have tasted, which also probably has to do with quality ingredients. I am a fan of Triple XXX, and so is my wife. We will be back to try out the other menu items and breakfast!

They put a generous layer of spiced seeds on top of the avocado, so there are lots of crunchy bits in every bite. I got the avocado toast with an over-medium egg on top, so my breakfast was a textural delight. I visited 8Eleven for a little brekkie, so I only know the morning menu. They have a pared down breakfast here, with a dozen or so options: a couple of omelets, a couple of toasts, eggs in different permutations. A parfait and an acai bowl and some steel-cut oats are also on the menu. They also offer fresh juice. The black coffee is great. The service is great. If you visit for breakfast around 7:30 or 8 a.m. like I did, there aren't too many people, so you'll probably get your food quickly. The restaurant itself is classy but not stodgy.

First off, I have always picked where I want to sit, the part about "server is busy, and that table is served by a specific server" is nonsensical, they should really change or add a server to the seating area that customers prefer (near window, more lighting etc) rather than having the customer sit somewhere else for their servers convenience. Secondly, I picked up the glass for water and it smelled like an egg, I called out the server (who already seemed annoyed to change of seats) and told her about the glass and the response I got was "we wash our glasses in vinegar so it must be that", well first off, I know the difference between vinegar and egg smell, secondly, it was disgusting and I cannot drink water in it, instead of arguing, she really should have just changed the glass, it's not that hard.

I don't like giving out low or poor reviews. However, this visit was really unfortunate. Upon walking in there was no one who greeted you and when she did emerge from the kitchen, there was nothing along the lines of high welcome or good morning rather it was how many. Our waiter only came to our table once for a refill on coffee however never asked us how our meal was after it had arrived. He also did not give us the check on his little mobile machine, although we did see him give checks to other tables right next to us on his little mobile machine, if that is what I saw. they made us walk all the way back to the front in order to check out and pay. Our waiter did take the right order, which was my omelette with no cheese however, as you can see from the pictures, there was definitely cheese in this omelette. That was also disappointing. My partner ordered toast which came with his meal, and the bread was not toasted at all in fact, it looked like it was just simply taken out of the bag. The eggs also were not fresh eggs. He definitely came out of a carton. The country fried steak he ordered was definitely not steak as well. The only thing that really went well were my hashbrowns because they were toasted on the top part. The coffee here unfortunately tasted like brown hot water. the place photographs well, with all the hanging florals this unfortunately really missed the ball and missed the point. It was a huge waste of money and they really need to work on service and food here. If you have other choices for breakfast, please go somewhere else because this is very disappointing. Our waiter was not attentive. When we saw someone cleaning a table that it really wasn't being cleaned it was simply being cleared out. No cleaning tools or cleaning fluids were used at all in the process of cleaning. I didn't think anyone could really ruin breakfast orders, but they definitely managed to do it.
