Came down for a co-worker's birthday and ordered Steak & Avocado burger, it was sooo good! Will definitely order again!

I paid $29(plus all the DoorDash fees and all that jazz)for the seafood Louie and it arrived with no avocado, no boiled egg, no lemon, and just two shrimp. Seemed like a ripoff since all I got was the two shrimp, four slices of cucumber, eight grape tomatoes, a quarter cup of crab meat, some dressing and some mixed greens. Annoying when you are expecting something and it doesn't even come with what the menu states it will, especially for basically $30 for a salad. Very disappointing. Now that I've tasted it, the crab seems to be bad so now I can't even really eat this salad. I wouldn't recommend. read more

We were passing through Gilroy to get home and wanted to grab some dinner. Westside Grill popped up on a Yelp search and the reviews led us to the doors. When we arrived, we were seated almost immediately for outdoor dining. Our party of 5 was seated at a table with almost zero lighting -- we could not even read the menu. The outdoor "patio" is shared with other businesses in the plaza so the lighting was only from the dim lighting from the corners of the building. Note to restaurant owners: if you're going to offer outdoor dining, it would probably be a good idea to invest in outdoor lamps to make the space more brighter. I'm all for "romantic" settings but don't like to eat in the dark. We eventually asked one of the servers to move us to another table that had a little bit better lighting -- but still, it was hard to see our food while eating. Service: these guys are spread thin or don't have enough servers? The young lady that waited on us was super busy and we could barely flag her down. At one point, I personally went to the kitchen door and asked someone for extra salsa. Food: one of my girls ordered the Apple Harvest Salad and while it was very refreshing and tasty -- the purple cabbage was bad. She literally had to pick out every single piece of the purple cabbage because it made her salad bitter and smell old. My grilled sea bass (which was offered on their Specials Menu) was super tiny -- not sure if it was worth $30. This restaurant may be a good choice in non-COVID conditions but it's not for me as of now. We do not plan on returning which is too bad because we frequent the Gilroy Outlets and would've loved to have a favorite dinner spot in Gilroy. read more

By FAR my favorite restaurant in Gilroy ! I've been back here about four times now just because I can't get enough! I went back today when it was about 100 degrees outside and it was SO WORTH IT. Everything about this place is great: the management, service, community, food, outdoor seating setup! I 110% recommend checking this place out! Dishes I've tried so far and my thoughts : - CA Burger: wooow 5/5 stars!! Super juicy patty and the avocado is such a nice touch. Get fries as your side for sure! - Thai Chicken Pizza: hmmm 3.5/5 stars just bc I wasn't the biggest fan of the sauce; reminded me a bit of BBQ sauce. The texture was really good tho; very crispy! I'll probably try the chicken pesto version next time. - Chicken Pesto Pasta: 5/5 stars hands down! I loved everything about this decadent dish. From the sauce to the pine nuts used - Steak and Avocado Sandwich: 4/5 stars! The steak was just a bit dry in my opinion, BUT the flavors were great! The steak and avocado compliment each other very well! I would probably choose a burger over this tho! - Crab Melt: 5/5 stars the most recent dish I've tried! Wow oh wow the flavors are exquisite and the crab oooof. We come here for all of our special occasions. The food is the best and so is the service. Kim C. is truly one of the best servers you will ever encounter, after our first dinner with her, she felt like a friend, and has honestly become one. Her attention to detail, incredible memory, great personality *and heart* will bless you so much! This whole staff is just awesome. Every server, every manager, the hostesses...will make you feel at home and seriously take care of you. The particular meal that I order is a little "extra special" because I have food allergies, and let me tell you, they are SO gracious with me. As with most places, the prices have really increased but that hasn't stopped their repeat customers from treating themselves to their accustomed menu items. I crave their lobster bisque soup. It has great flavor - thick red-in-color creamy soup with little chunks of lobster meat. There's only been one time out of many where I had absolutely no lobster meat in my cup but I didn't even mind cause I just really do like the flavor of the creamy deliciousness. The scallops entree is delicious but again it's super pricey at around $40 (I think/pretty sure). The crab Louie was a bummer and I wouldn't get that again. Not worth the high price tag of $20+ The crab melt sando is delish! Served grilled on sourdough bread. Mmmm Their burgers and French dip are also solid faves, as well as their string cut fries (get the garlic fries! Your breath will not thank you but your belly will!)! This review is for the restaurants, new manager Alisa. My husband and i frequent this restaurant because the food is always amazing. And Service has always been great. except last night. We walked in, sat about 10 minutes to get seated, which is no big deal. The restaurant was packed. They finally seated us and we sat for a good 20 to 30 minutes with no one acknowledging us. My husband and I had been working in our yard all day and had not eaten so we were looking forward to getting a good meal. Because no one acknowledged us or bought us anything to drink. My husband went to the bar and got each of us a cocktail when he was gone Finally Alisa came up to our table and asked me if she could help me or if anybody had helped us yet I said no and that we've been sitting for 20 to 30 minutes. She asked me if she could get me a glass of wine. I said no my husband went to get our drinks because nobody waited on us. I was a bit crabby because I was so hungry.lol when my husband came back to the table she came up and told us she was taking care of our drinks. She was very apologetic and super nice. They had a short staff. We totally understand that things happen. It was just really nice for her to be so caring, apologetic, and professional. Brought a salad and soup out to us immediately with bread and took our order... very impressive and we are so thankful to be treated so nice. We celebrated an early Christmas with our family here at Westside Grill. The servers did a great job handling our 20+ party. I was surprised how busy this grill was! The food here was surprisingly good! Note that the bar can't/doesn't know how to make an aperol spritz. I had: *tempura green beans: served with saffron aioli -- these were AWESOME. Nicely deep-fried. *baja tacos (corn tortillas, shredded cabbage, avocado, cilantro aioli, refried beans, choice of chicken or salmon) -- says corn tortilla but it was actually flour & we had it with chicken. Not bad. An order came with 3 *crab salad (lump and dungeness crab meat, cucumber, tomato, boiled egg, avocado, choice of dressing and fresh greens) - I made sure that it wasn't some weird mayo crab concoction and I added ahi tuna for extra protein. I wish there were better options for salad dressing though. The balsamic didn't quite jive. All in all, a jolly time! read more

Completely love this place! We were looking for a restaurant (thats not a franchise) selling steak for lunch and we came across this place! My son, wife and myself were very VERY happy we ran across this place!! We were warmly greeted and seated upon arriving! This place has a very nice and homey atmosphere!! I had the Moscow mule, which was made to perfection! Wife had hot green tea which was served in a very classy way. My boy (5years of age) was craving for steak and the 8oz Ribeye was more than enough for him! Loved the food, atmosphere and great service! The lobster bisque which went with the entrees was very good too. Rich and creamy! The pricing is also very reasonable! The food quality and the service itself more than justifies its very affordable pricing! Definitely must go to this place after shopping at the Gilroy Outlets! My husband has been wanting to come here for years and we recently went and had a great time. It was pretty busy for lunch but our waiter was really on it and gave great recommendations! This place is a solid 4 stars. They have an outside dining area, but you wouldn't know it from the parking lot... the outside dining area is in the courtyard of the larger building. Which is also great because it provides a lot of shade for the diners. We ordered from the lunch menu after initially being given a brunch menu, even though it was closing in on 4 PM. Darn! Some of their brunch items sounded great. Anyway, we ordered the Tempura Green Beans, the Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps, and a rib-eye steak. The salad that came with the steak was awesome. Large, and the ingredients were fresh. The Tempura Green Beans were excellent! Just crispy enough, and the saffron aioli was a great complement. The Thai Chicken Lettuce Wraps were also good. Plenty of slaw, Asian noodles, and chicken to fill the six or seven pieces of lettuce. The only real downside was that the steak we ordered was over cooked. We ordered a medium steak; we got medium well - no pink at all. But everything else was on point! We'd be back if we're ever in the Gilroy area again. read more

Last night, our party of five friends and I arrived for our reservation at 6:45. After waiting for 15 or 20 minutes to be seated, we inquired as to the delay. Evidently, the individuals sitting at our designated table had been kindly asked to vacate by a designated time but didn't care to leave. Much kudos to manager Caneisha, who calmly and professionally handled the entire situation with grace. We were staying at a beautiful Airbnb in Watsonville and we were looking for a quick bite on our day trip home from San Fran. This place had good reviews and it was open! (Just FYI, if you're from a city...these small towns, rarely have decent places open past 8pm!) It was a Saturday night and very busy, we were told it would be around a half hour wait. Once seated, we already knew what we wanted so asked if we could order right away. However, we had to wait for our waitress. She was no where to be found....for a long time! I think by this point, we were a little hangry, so needless to say, we inhaled our food once it arrived. I ordered the beef short rib tortellini and it was delicious! I only got a picture of mine as my husband and friends were to hungry and dug right in....I don't blame them! So, the good was good, on the expensive side, but my tortellini had good chunks of beef short rib and I was very full afterwards. Everyone else found their sauces a little watery (we all ordered pastas) it still had good flavour. What a hidden gem this place is. From the looks of the reviews it's been around for some time. It's just placed inconspicuously as it is nestled in a building complex of businesses. If you totally miss the sign you would think it was just another optometrist office or the the like. Since it is a part of a group of businesses there is plenty of parking. Maybe not so much during the work week. You walk in through great big wooden doors that open into a quaint little reception area where you are enthusiastically greeted, by friendly smiling faces...even with the masks you can tell they're smiling0. Lighting is romantic against the dark wood walls and tables. We were asked if we had reservations and when I said no the hostess said she would get us a table anyway. We arrived at 4pm on a Saturday and they were getting a steady stream of people both picking up take out as well as dining in. I have no idea if the tables they had out in the courtyard had been there before or set up per Covid regulations. Either way it is a pleasant place to dine. The architecture of the building itself lends an old world feel. You almost feel as if you traveled outside the U.S and were dining in Italy or Greece. As soon as we were seated we were greeted by a very pleasant gentleman whom wore a mask. Took our drink orders and was off to fetch them. Moments later he returned and we made sure we were ready to order. My boys ordered Arnold Palmers as they always do so they know their stuff. They can tell when tea is a fresh brew. This passed with flying colors. For our appetizers I ordered the following: 1. Calamari: fresh and nicely breaded and fried. We were pleasantly surprised there were a few whole tentacles thrown in with the rings. It's our fave. Fresh lemon to spritz and marinara for dipping. 2. Tempura Green Beans: lightly coated in a thin batter of tempura. Cooked just enough that the green beans still provided a snap when you bit into them. Served with some garlic mustard aioli. 3. Gilroy Garlic Fries: I think it's a bit of a monstrosity if garlic fries are not served at an establishment nestled deep in a town known around the world for GARLIC. It was delish..my garlic breath will keep me safe from the vampires..lol! Fries were crisp and hot! Typically my kids and I order stuff but we eat everything family style. Best of both worlds and allows for mom to do her Yelp thing thoroughly. Our entrees each came with either a soup or a salad. Their soup choices were a roasted pepper or lobster bisque. What do I look like had I NOT gone with the bisque?..dont answer that! So my youngest son and I chose the bisque and me eldest son chose a salad with a balsamic vinaigrette. Our entrees: 1. Lobster bisque: creamy, well seasoned and had chunks of lobster. It was perfect. 2. Salad: fresh crisp lettuce. Tomatoes ripe and firm. Everything you want a salad to be. A palate cleanser post deep fried appetizer goodness..lol! 3. Chicken Pesto: just enough pesto that it didn't take mute the rest of the ingredients like the juicy chicken and al dente penne. The toasted pine nuts lent that nice crunch. 4. Crab and Avocado melt: my eldest and I both agree we may just like crab melts more than tuna melts. Also, this crab melt may even have won a place in our hearts knocking lobster rolls out :-/. Maybe. This sandwich is served with a buttered white bread. The crab is creamy and with the addition of the red onion had a perfect bite. The avocado lent a creaminess that did not compete with the creaminess of the mayo the crab was mixed with. 5. Shortrib Ravioli: this dish, let me tell you. The shortrib was well seasoned and tender. The ravioli itself pillows, soft but still had that chew you want. Together it was like a melt in your mouth pillow of heaven. The sauce creamy with slices of mushroom and cherry tomatoes. Both pasta dishes are served with 2 pieces of toasted bread. My son's and I were discussing how the bread was nicely toasted. Just enough to have this nice crust on top so that when you dipped it in the pasta sauce it didn't lose its toasted integrity. It held its own against the sauce. Service was impeccable. I really need to get better with remembering names. The good looking attentive gentleman (with gauges) made sure our drinks were replenished often. Checked in on us just enough so as not to make us feel forgotten. We weren't planning to dine in a new place, had that been the plan we woulda dressed nicer..lol..but that did not change the level of hospitality shown to us. I mean we didn't look like slobs but the messy bun and adidas track pants probably screamed tired mom..hahahahahaha! All the food we ordered our check came out to $107. My brother went here and had Prime rib that was so good he went back. It was 5 stars first visit. So. It was great and went back to be horribly disappointed and disrespectful. So. The manager. Mike said he will make it phenomenal. But. It was horrible and took forever to get their food. The 3rd time. It was to make up for hideous service. But it was so bad. If you complain about the lousy food and cooking ( microwaved) prime rib. You will be told you are no longer welcome. Keep this in mind. As. Good service = good tip. Happy customers equals.
