    Front counter for ordering

After reading on Instagram that Wethersfield Pizza and Grinder was a top spot for quality chicken parm grinders, I just had to try this place So I pulled in to the strip mall parking lot on this Friday for lunch and parked right in front of the place as it seemed a little slow in the plaza. Once I got in, I realized take out was where it's at and it was busy as I was ready to place my order I ordered a half of chicken Parmesan grinder with cheese and peppers. My friend ordered the half eggplant grinder. We each took a 12 ounce soda from the cooler and took a seat waiting for our food to arrive. Once the grinders arrived, my chicken parm was stacked with tender chicken cutlets, it looks like two slices of cheese, and a very stingy serving of sauce on the grinder. Don't get me wrong, this was a very thick grinder. My friend's eggplant Parmesan arrived, with eggplant deep-fried in placed on the grinder, very little cheese, and very very little sauce. Now taste wise it was just OK. This didn't knock my socks off. After reading all of these reviews on yelp and Instagram, I thought I was ready for the sock knocker. I was really disappointed. I ate half of a half of a grinder that was it . My friend ate half of a half of eggplant and then the other half of my chicken Parm. Now this is where I shake my head. When we picked up the grinders from the counter, there were no napkins. I searched all the other possible places for the napkins to be, and there were none to be had anywhere. Oh, the table was missing salt, pepper, and maybe Parmesan. That would've been nice. I would give the place about a five out of 10 for cleanliness. Come on folks clean your restaurant! I didn't even bother checking any bathrooms. So with all this said, and all these great reviews that were hitting. Wethersfield Pizza and Grinder needs to step it up. Now for the crazy part. $36 for 2/2 grinders and two sodas. Franklin Giant Grinder has whole grinders for $21. I just don't see the value here. Plus, it's cash only! But no worries, they have an ATM inside where you can pull money out for big fees!

    Italian chicken cutlet sandwich

Owner is super friendly and nice. First time going in and she made me feel like I was a regular. Had an 8" Italian chicken cutlet sandwich. Chicken was thin, crispy and moist. Bread was delicious and heard they baked it themselves! Sauce has a nice spice to it and sweetness to balance. Also, this thing is enormous. Took a photo of it but didn't seem to show the seriousness of the situation. Added a dollar for scale. Could only manage to eat half but am looking to finishing this later. Cash only so come prepared.

"I'm gigantic, titanic I might cause a panic Ready or not baby here I come" (Melissa Etheridge) The word "gigantic" is totally appropriate when describing the portion sizes we encountered in today's take-out order. We paid $31 for an antipasto salad and their specialty of the house - an Italian Chicken Cutlet grinder. Let me start with the salad. Our take-home container seemed pretty darned heavy, so when we got home, I put it on my kitchen scale, and it clocked in at an impressive pound and a half. It was absolutely jam-packed with meats and cheeses, and it came with a nice hunk of Italian bread and a Styrofoam coffee cup of Italian dressing. We divided it into four portions and had a portion each for dinner. It was excellent, very filling, and we felt the ham, salamis, and cheeses were of pretty high quality. Now, when you drive up to the Wethersfield Pizza House, you'll see a sign proclaiming that you've arrived at "The Home of the Chicken Cutlet." Any doubts we may have had about the reasonableness of that boast were dismissed when we unwrapped our sandwich. What we saw was a six-cutlet high skyscraper of thinly sliced and breaded chicken breasts stacked like a Jenga Tower with sauce and cheese on a soft Italian grinder roll. Check out the photos and see if I'm lyin' or not. It was tender, not chewy or overcooked, and pretty much perfect by any metric you care to look at. We'll have six portions of excellent food for our $31.13. Oh, and a word about the couple behind the counter who took our order, prepared the food, and cashed us out. They could not have been nicer. Wethersfield Pizza is very much a neighborhood kind of place as the regulars came in and out for their "usual" orders. The customer service was fantastic. This was a five-star experience in every regard.

This picture is showing a HALF a grinder! (The half is cut in half haha) so good!

First time at Wethersfield Pizza House & definitely will be coming back! When you walk in you totally get a townie vibe- there are definitely regulars who come here. However, the woman at the counter greeted us and talked to us after our meal in the most charming way. Her and the man in the back were so nice that alone would make me want to return! We called ahead and got a HALF chicken parm grinder. I was skeptical why my husband ordered us a half to share but he told me to trust him and wow glad I did! The HALF is like a full size grinder- plenty for two people for lunch. The chicken is legit stacked! So thin and crispy I was a huge fan. Another piece I really liked was their sauce. Their sauce was fantastic! Makes me want to try other grinders/ pizzas because their sauce is that good. All in all I am a fan of the service and food. Will totally be back!

Found this gem from a social media post. Wow! The chicken cutlet sandwich and dish were exactly as the social media post said - LOTS of cutlet in each dish (see photos). Both my hubby and I were able to eat only half of our orders. The service is quaint; run by a husband and wife team who's charm makes you feel like you're family. I can't believe we did not know about this place before!! Will be back for more!!

Don't know what all the hype is about....I came here because of the ratings... Must be new owner? No menus..only a very old one by the front door..first deli I've been to with no wall menu or even paper menus... American style chicken cutlet grinder..asked for heavy oil and vinegar..it came just a touch of o&v.. The cutlets were hard and dry..not much taste..very disappointed... Sorry to spoil all the followers and enthusiasts for the place.. But it is a no go for me...

Every time we are out east we make a point to stop here. The ingredients are fresh- bread is light and perfectly crispy. The sauce on their chicken cutlet is perfection!

Finally made it to this gem of a place, and boy did it live up to the hype! The Italian chicken grinder, a chicken parm stuffed grinder, stacked to the heavens with perfectly thin cutlets was the order. Me and my wife shared a whole, which is large enough to easily feed 2 people. We had saved up all day just to have this monster grinder, and finished it, but we're very full, and for most it would be enough for 2 meals. Aside from being such a big portion, the grinder isn't just big, it's also very tasty. Like I said, cutlets pounded out to the perfect thickness, thin but not thin enough to be basically just breading. Cooked nice and crispy, and well seasoned. The sauce was very flavorful, and the provolone was perfect. Service at the restaurant was top notch. The owner and his wife greeted us when we came in, and were very friendly. They made our grinder, and had us served within 2 minutes. Made sure we were satisfied, and taken care of. It's a cute, place that hasn't changed in years, and is kept clean and tidy. Not super fancy ambiance, but exactly what you want out of a pizza/grinder shop. All killer, no filler! We've already recommended to friends and family, and we will be back.

It's Friday, so that means another work lunch review. Today my job chose Wethersfield Pizza House. Apparently known for massive sandwiches and a staple to the town. My coworker brought my order to me: Italian style chicken cutlet. I thought this was going to be leaving me wanting more. Let's just say I ate half and now I'm full until Sunday. The first bite I had, that was my Anton Ego moment. Instant flashback to childhood. Going to my grandparents house and my grandfather using 4C breadcrumbs to make chicken parmigiana. (My grandfather was first generation Italian American, great grandfather immigrated from Florence) Each bite added to the nostalgia. More and more memories flooding my mind. If I need a reminder of time with my grandparents, or an exceptionally made sandwich, I'll be going here!

    Half chicken parm
    Valerie R.

Well, we finally made it here for the infamous chicken parm grinder!! I didn't check Yelp upon arrival, and in a flustered state when asked what we wanted, I ordered a "large" chicken parm for my husband and I to share. Well, we would have needed two additional friends to help us if we wanted to eat the whole thing!! The photos shown are a half grinder - we had two plates with a total of four pieces of grinder. We arrived starving and still could only eat one piece each, and took two home. These definitely lived up to the hype! I am a mega super picky chicken cutlet critic. These were easily the best chicken cutlets I've had, other than my own or my grandmother's. Thin, tender, juicy, crisp, perfect. Good fresh bread, perfectly toasted, not dried out at all. Tasty sauce in between each cutlet. Legitimately the best chicken cutlet grinder I've ever had. And - the owners were amazingly friendly! We ate in, you grab whatever drinks or chips you want and pay at the end. They thanked us for coming in several times and just seemed really grateful for every customer. That goes a long way - a great family business with such pleasant service is truly a joy to patronize. Next time I'll order with a little extra sauce, as I heard others do after we ordered. My advice: go there ASAP, and definitely only get the half if you're sharing with someone else!

    WPH
    Jason P.

Wethersfield Pizza House is one of those apparently beloved places that I've never connected with, even though I live just 5 minutes away. Some components of their food are very good, but WPH is too rough around the edges for me. For example, prior to today, I was last in WPH a few years ago. I left without even ordering when nobody greeted me for a couple minutes, even though I was the only person there. A person who reminded me of the WPH employee helping me today yelled after me as I walked out. I responded, "I'm good." Today, I gave WPH another try for workday lunch takeout. I attempted to order a small pizza, but the affable WPH employee said that they were out of smalls, and mediums, and they would give me a large for the price of a medium. Huh? I pivoted to a small meatball grinder with onions, peppers and cheese. I had to correct her when she repeated my order without all of the ingredients I mentioned. "10 minutes," she said. Due to traffic, I arrived shortly after the 10 minute mark. The WPH employee told me they were getting ready to pull it out and it would be one minute. She was friendly in a colorful, rather than a professional, way. They did not pull out the grinder in one minute. It ended up taking several more minutes and about 20 minutes, from the time I ordered, total. I was the only customer there. One of my restaurant pain points is the layering of an additional missed time prediction, on top of a previously missed time prediction. Just say it will be up soon if you don't know. While I waited, I had ample time to see things like the discolored floor, and a stack of empty bottled beverage boxes mixed with full boxes in the customer-facing portion of the restaurant. Bottom line, WPH's service and atmosphere are both net negatives for me. The meatball grinder itself was mixed, but more good than bad. The tender meatballs, roasted peppers, well melted mozzarella and tangy, sweet red sauce were all good to very good. The onions, however, were cooked just past completely raw, and they had an aggressive flavor. About three hours later, I could still taste them. I expect grilled or sautéed onions for this type of grinder. In addition, the upper portion of the bread tasted fresh, but the bottom part was not structurally sound in relation to the filling. From my observations, WPH isn't too worried about the details that add up to a good customer experience. Rather, WPH seems to stake its business on long time loyal customers who may forgive the details, and the fact that they have a chicken cutlet grinder that is filled with an obscene quantity of tasty fried chicken cutlets. After ordering that once, I haven't ordered it again because I prefer sandwiches with more of a proportional composition. But I know some people swear by it. 3 Stars for WPH. We're just not on the same page.

Want to feel taken care of like you're at your Italian grandmas house having Sunday dinner? Come here! Chicken grinder was amazing and had the best service I've ever had in Connecticut! Will be returning.

Secondly, the latte, cocktail & mocktail options are amazing, along with the many many options of food. I've heard that food from restaurants with large menus are mediocre...this DOES NOT apply here. My party of 2 tried breakfast & lunch options. Both were fresh & so flavorful, especially that homemade syrup I had with the French Egg Holes & Cinnamon Roll Pancakes (3). The home fries came out & were seasoned to perfection. Also, not 1 hard potato to be found. The over medium egg in my thick french toast was actually medium! And they gave me the wholes that were cut from the center of the bread. The pancakes were so fluffy & the icing delish. Tasted exactly like a cinnamon roll. We also ordered 2 different mimosas. The cranberry & the classic. Both were made crispy cold, with quality juices & came garnished. The Salted Cinnamon Mocha Latte, was velvet. It wasn't overly sweet, it wasn't watery or overly bold. I was surprised about how tall the cup was...I drank all of it. It wasn't served scorching hot, so I could sip right away. The Greek Lemon Chicken Orzo Soup was lovely. Typically, soup is watery & looks like it was the last bits, but this had chunky meat, the broth had flavor with hints of lemon. You could see the herbs. This didn't scream, I'm from a can at all. The service was also nice & the waitresses didn't mind that we couldn't make our decisions right away. She & her counterpart offered suggestions & were very kind with checking on us. At the end of the meal, we couldn't help but order some take home from the lunch menu for later. I'm already looking forward to my next visit.
