I love this deli! Ordered my corned beef sandwich to go. It is called Boyle Heights and it is a little pricey, BUT... so darn tasty and yummy. Great rye bread and I know my rye bread...;) Anyway, after a major hike and a great swim, I feel gooood! Recommend this place forever!

    McArthur Park, grilled like reuben

I come here just for the McArthur Park sandwich--and it never disappoints. It's a pastrami masterpiece: rye bread stacked with juicy pastrami, Swiss cheese, creamy coleslaw, and Russian dressing. I always ask them to grill the bread like a Reuben, and that little touch puts it over the top. This sandwich is an homage to Langer's Deli in DTLA, right by the actual MacArthur Park, and it 100% lives up to the name. Their smoked fish sandwiches are also fantastic--fresh, flavorful, and balanced. The bagels? Top tier. What really sets them apart is that they actually put toppings on both sides--attention to detail that makes a difference. Parking can be a pain with only street spots available (classic Santa Monica struggle), but once you're inside, the friendly staff and quick service more than make up for it. Highly recommend if you're craving a deli fix done right.

What we ordered: The MacArthur Park (Pastrami, coleslaw, Swiss cheese, Russian dressing, rye) $19 I love going to different Jewish Delis. Eating at a Jewish Deli is comfort food for me. I really like a good Pastrami sandwich, but it's not something I can do everyday with how expensive a Pastrami sandwich costs. The cost of a pastrami sandwich is more expensive here than at The Hat, but cheaper than Langer's. I asked the staff about how long the pastrami is cooked. I was told that it cooks for 1 day and it is smoked for 8 hours. The Pastrami is always hand sliced. Hand slicing makes all the difference in the world. Wexler's is known for curing, smoking and steaming the pastrami in house which is a rarity nowadays. This kind of quality is unparalleled. Wexler's rye bread if made with half rye flour and half bread flavor which brings out a stronger rye flavor. The service was very good and very attentive. I mentioned to the server that I would share the sandwich with my wife and son. Upon receiving the sandwich, I realized they separate the sandwich on separate plates with our own portions of potato salad and pickles. This really warmed my heart. They went out of their way to accommodate me without even asking for it. That was awesome! Nowadays, it is so rare to experience the unexpected and this really impressed me. I would definitely come back to Wexler's as the portion size for the price is pretty good for a premium Pastrami sandwich. The taste of pastrami is very good. I'd like to go to the OG Wexler location in the Grand Central Market to compare the quality. Many people online say Wexler's in Grand Central is better and more consistent than the Santa Monica location, but I don't have any complaints of this location.

Unfortunately, their matzo Ball soup was a large letdown. It was cold and the carrots were still raw. The tuna sandwich as well as the Reuben were much better. Service was friendly, but they got our order incorrect twice. The hashbrowns were very generic, their dessert also a pass. Clean restaurant with plenty of seating and metered parking out front. Maybe they were just having an off day, but unfortunately it wasn't good enough to come back for.

The O.G. It may look simple but, it's packed with flavor.

Incredible experience. The wexler's in LA closed and i was super bummed. I took a day off from work to go for a cruise and eat at the Santa Monica one. I live about 40 miles away. It was worth the drive. I had an excellent experience with great food and great service. I always get The O.G with a Coke. I could not be any happier with this place. Thank you for making my day Wexler's. I highly encourage anyone to eat at this establishment.

We came here for breakfast - the service was quick and polite. We got some coffees and sat down. We got the big papa plate - the plate is the forsure way to go here. The eggs were great with hashbrowns on the side and you could build your own sandwich if you wanted to as they toasted one on the side. The uncle Leo was okay - the smoked salmon was not the best quality and the eggs were okay. If we were to come back I would get the plates for everything.

I've bagels passionately, so I had to try this place. One of the coolest things that they have a large variety of the bagels and dishes they serve on it. I went with Leo- bagel with salmon loc and egg kinda Benedict style. I wish bagel was may be softer inside...:but I loved my choice, and would definitely come again to try other bagels! Loved the ambience, love the look and feel of the place, such a little throw back to NYC in 90s, but bigger space.

Tentative to share because this place is such a hidden gem. But they deserve all the praise and customers they can get. The service is always amazing. The ambience and clientele are great. Easily one of my favorite spots in Santa Monica.

Great modern Jewish deli. The Elaine was very good highly recommend adding cream cheese to it. Food came out really fast and service was good. The music in the restaurant was hip-hop and very loud.

Tried Wexler's today. Really solid. Like a New York Deli. The everything bagel with lox was so good. Also the service was good. Will definitely be in the regular rotation. Prices are too high for what you get.

    disappointing coleslaw
    Steven W.

Ever get the feeling you've been cheated? I ordered a pastrami on rye to go. Got home and discovered they'd given me corned beef, not pastrami. To make matters worse, the corned beef was... well... it wasn't flavorless... it had a vague hint of corned beef flavor, like a memory of corned beef reaching out through an ocean of disappointment. The coleslaw that came with the sandwich was also disappointing. The pickles were acceptable, but on the lower end of acceptable. With tax and tip I spent over $20 for a sandwich I didn't want that didn't taste like much of anything. And after I finished it, I was still hungry. If you want to spend over $20 for a bland, ungenerous portion of something that wasn't the sandwich you ordered, then Wexler's might very well be the place for you. Or maybe you could just be content with that old borscht belt joke: Two old people are talking at a restaurant. The first says, "Boy, the food at this place is really terrible." The other one says, "Yeah, I know.. and such small portions."

Went to brunch today and the food was so bomb! I got the pastrami breakfast burrito which I highly recommend:) vibes and service were great! Definitely coming back here

Called to place an order but something was wrong with their phone. It wasn't ringing, just static. Drove all the way across town to try this place, but when we got here they were closed. Well, not CLOSED closed because there were 2 dudes talking in there but their doors were locked and a little old lady was peering in when we pulled up. Saw a couple of other people walking by who stopped by the door hoping to get a sammy but the dudes at the table seemed more concerned with their conversation than their customers. Oh well, everything happens for a reason i guess.

Their mozzarella sandwich is a masterpiece with Fresh Ovoline Mozzarella, Avocado, Alfalfa Sprouts, Pickled Red Onion and a delicious Za'atar Spread. What makes it stand out as one of the best sandwiches in LA is the bread. They make their own focaccia several times a day and it is divine. Probably the only other place that can dare to match their creations is La Zucca at the Beverly Hills Cheese Store. Some of our other favorites is the tuna sandwich. Service is always on point and the sandwich travels well for consuming it at home. There isn't a ton of space to sit, but there is some counter style seating. Tip: Their menu is limited by choice. Check their Daily specials (Sandwich of the Day) for inspiration. They have 3 kids sandwiches (all are meat based). Tip: The biggest challenge is parking, sometimes metered parking is available. Otherwise, park for free in neighborhood streets away from Montana. It's a pleasant walk.

The bread was crunchy, arugula fresh, and the pesto mayonnaise was great. However, it almost felt a little....underseasoned? I wish it had a bit more of a punch to it. You do get a good amount of food for what you're paying for, but personally, I'd rather go to All'Antico Vinaio in Venice and get a sandwich that costs a little bit more, but you get more food and a better seasoning. I'd go here again if I was in a pinch, but personally wouldn't try again.

The Godmother is good but disproportionately acclaimed, and I'd never wait in line to get it. Thankfully, it's easy to order ahead. I did this through DoorDash on the drive over to Santa Monica, where we were already headed to catch a Sunday afternoon play. We walked in and saw the zoo at the deli counter, then learned that DoorDash pick-ups were in a different corner of the grocery. There was a confusing sign that indicated "catering & on-line pick up around the corner to the left," which in its ambiguous phrasing, led me to a place I wasn't supposed to go (it was apparently only for catering orders, but what about "catering & on-line pick up" excludes DoorDash orders?). A snippy employee cast me out and completely ignored my explanation about the sign. But other than that, the pick-up was quick and painless, much better than waiting in that line. It was like going to the DMV with an appointment vs. without (one of my favorite Broad City gags). We looked around the store, which was quite nice, a sizable gourmet grocery with lots of wine, deli goods, tinned fish, etc. My husband bought a lemonade and learned that Bay Cities doesn't take credit cards. (He was able to use an ATM card.) We took our pick-up order, bagged in a maximal amount of plastic, and grabbed one a handful of shaded tables in front of the store. We'd planned to take our sandwiches to a park, but this was a pleasant place to eat. I got the Godmother with the works: prosciutto, ham, capicola, mortadella, Genoa salami, and Provolone; hot peppers (you can also get mild), Italian dressing, mayo, yellow mustard, lettuce, onion, tomato, and pickles, all on a fresh Italian roll. The bread was great, sturdy with a good crunch, and I liked the sandwich well enough. It was OK+ for sure, just not really a standout in my map of Los Angeles sandwiches. I also ordered a side of snap pea salad, with fresh snap peas, mandarin orange, black sesame seeds, sesame oil, and salt. I love snap peas but I guess I don't love them quite this raw and underdressed. This was a disappointment. If I lived in Santa Monica, I might go to Bay Cities more than once every 16 years. But unless I'm still missing something, it's not really worth a drive.
