Let's start with: we ordered legs, thighs, fries, rings and coleslaw: best fried chicken EVER (sorry to Elsie, my long gone grandmother, who cooked great fried chicken); super friendly staff and owner; the restaurant is SPARKLING clean inside; fries, onion rings were great, BUT, the coleslaw is OUTSTANDING (we like coleslaw so I keep a record and a "score" whenever we get it, max 5 points...when we were here a couple years ago I rated it a 6; ditto this time!). Now, an esoteric quirk of mine...I hate waiting for the hot water in restaurants' bathrooms. In fact, after waiting 2 or 3 minutes, the hot water shows up tepid, or, never shows up, in quite a few places. Absolutely not the case here - instant hot (and, I mean hot!) water; and, the restroom was super clean! Pro Tip #1: arrive hungry but not starving. Here's what I mean: all of the food is cooked to order. So, when you order, they start cooking - for the pieces we ordered: about 15 - 20 minutes. That's not bad, but, when they bring it out to you, snappling and crackling, and smelling sooo good, you can't take a bite for another 10 - 15 minutes because it is so hot from the fresh cooking! Pure agony...suck it up, it's gonna be worth the wait! She had patience as she explained what the Chicago sauce is and proceeded to take my order. Told my family about this spot after my initial visit. Definitely look crazy after our experience today. First of all, we ordered a variety of items. We upgraded to combos only to be told that they were out of the potato tots on the menu. Husband selected the onion rings as a replacement. About 25 minutes after ordering, I was called to the register for the cashier to show me all of my order on the ground. She said 'it will be a bit cause I dropped your food, there it is ok n the ground". Ok, maybe I was irritated after traveling 3 hours and adding this pit stop to our schedule. Anyway we waited another 20 minutes for our redo order. The cashier brought me the gizzards that weren't dropped during our wait. Nice gesture but 2 of the 3 of us don't eat them. They were good. Not too tough and hot. They were seasoned perfectly. I also ordered the lemon pepper wings, husband the catfish and chicken combo, and our daughter ordered the tenders. As before, the food was great. I try to be very understanding and precise before leaving reviews. I live in an area where good friend chicken lacks however I was craving some good fried chicken. I went on a google search which lead me to try this place. First off, I hate walking into establishments with people posted up at the register on phones. Told us it would be 15-20 minutes, which meant we were getting fresh chicken. The kind woman, who looked over her glasses (you know the food about to be good when you see that!) brought our food to the table and before asking gave us ket hup for the fries. The decor was African themed with a selection of jazz and RNB classics. We had the catfish, wings,2 piece dark, hushpuppies, and fries. They had this mild sauce that was on point. What's Cluckin did not disappoint! The fish and chicken were fried extra, not hard but extra with little to no grease residue in the bottom of the paper boat (with the classic white bread lined across the bottom). All the food was well executed, tasty with a special blend seasoning to add on top. Great atmosphere. Great food. Great service. You earned these 5 stars, my friend. Yum!!! We both love chicken liver & gizzards and not many places offer them, but found them here and we're not disappointed at all. My husband loves his fried chicken and self proclaims himself as a connoisseur. He loved the crispness, seasoning, and size. He immediately told Angie he'd be back. I enjoyed the catfish nuggets which were meaty, fresh, and not greasy. We had the hush puppies & fried okra. Again, both were prepared well with plenty of flavor and not greasy. They also have pizza puffs when available which is another piece of home I don't find too often. One cool tip: the chicken is fried to order, so when you receive the chicken, give it at least 7-10 minutes unless you wanna burn your tongue and deal with the pain for a week. We also sampled fried mushrooms, chicken tenders, and fried (huge!) wings, and fried okra. The okra was cooked just the way southern folks like it. Y'all . . . everything was sooo good! I don't know what's in their batter, but oh, my it makes everything delicious. All the food was still VERY hot when we got home with it. They are most famous for their Chicago style fried chicken, so we will try that on our next visit. In addition to the excellent food, the owners are soooo sweet! They were struggling a little today. Had lunch at What's Cluckin today and I'm very pleased with the experience. I was greeted very cordially upon entry, no line as I was probably their first lunch customer of the day. The dining room was very clean and comfortable, the art on the walls was modern along with some photos of what seemed like family events. I ordered a combo that included 1 piece of fried catfish and a leg and thigh all piled on top of a heaping mound of beautifully fried tater tots. The flavors were delicious! The catfish was served with a crispy outside and an extraordinarily tender fish on the inside. I learned that they cook everything to order so when the food got to the table it was hot and ready to go. The chicken was super juicy and had great flavor. The service and the food was excellent! I will definitely be back and I plan to recommend this place for whoever is looking for delicious fried chicken or fried catfish. Had a random craving for chicken tonight! I'm not far from the coop. Well the old Chicago's Chicken coop. Came to yelp to find out their hours. Realizing they had moved. I placed a call in order, 5 piece Lemon Pepper wing w/Okra! My order was ready in 10 minutes btw which made me happy. The lady at the front was very nice. It was about a 30-40 minute wait, service wasn't good, but not the worst and the food was mediocre. I ordered the wings(Buffalo) and okra. There was little sauce on wings and it was probably because the bread was literally soaked in buffalo sauce.
