It had been forever since I last ate at Whataburger. I had been in the Midwest for four years and most recently spent another four months abroad, so I only recently returned to Houston. I actually didn't even realize that Fuddruckers had closed down until I drove over there and discovered it had been replaced by Whataburger. The location is definitely much smaller compared to the old Fuddruckers, but overall it was a solid experience. They were featuring the Banana Pudding Milkshake for May, and I decided to try it; honestly, it was pretty legit. I also ordered a patty melt, fries, and of course the spicy ketchup. Everything tasted good, service was friendly, and the food came out fairly quickly, probably within about 10 minutes. The dining area was also quite clean, with only a few customers inside at the time. The orange-and-silver interior gives it that classic Whataburger feel, and overall the restaurant felt well maintained.

I was a bit surprised by this visit. The previous location that this one replaced was one of the better Whataburger locations in town. It had bucked the "Chicagoburger" trend of Whataburger spots going downhill after the original owners had sold to private equity. Unfortunately, this one seems to be going the wrong way. Yes, it's brand new and very well put together, but it feels smaller and colder. It's got a smaller dining area than it's predecessor, a less functional ordering area, a smaller drink station. I came by to pick up a mobile order and the staff was just confused. They have a pick up area where I was standing, and yet they didn't understand why I wasn't coming over to the register, which is clearly for placing orders. They ended up getting my order-- a combo meal-- to me in three separate trips to the pick up area. When I got my food, I went and sat down, opened the fry bag, and sure enough, my ketchup was missing, so I had to ask for some. There were several security guards roaming the property-- two were mostly standing outside and chatting, while three others were at a table, ostensibly on a lunch break. It was a really weird vibe for a restaurant location that had barely been open a week.

This location is so slow, 30 minute wait with no line for the food to be ready through the drive thru. Who are hiring these employees lol

Layne's still holds the top spot for me, Raising Cane's is a close second, and Whataburger offers the best value. A Google search led me back to Skeeter's. I've been a Skeeter's fan for decades, but after my go-to Sugar Land location closed, I hadn't been back in quite a while. I've always loved their burgers, tacos, and weekend breakfast, but I couldn't remember ever trying the chicken tenders. I stopped by about 45 minutes before closing and ordered the tender basket with fries, toast, white gravy, and a drink. The meal came out piping hot, but every single tender had the same problem--the breading completely slid off the chicken when I picked it up, even after letting it cool for several minutes. The breading was crispy and flaky, but had an odd pickle juice flavor that just wasn't for me. The chicken itself had a texture that felt barely cooked, which made the meal even harder to enjoy. The fries were just okay. What surprised me most was that, with only a few tables occupied, no one ever stopped by to ask how everything was, even though what appeared to be the manager was walking around preparing for closing. I would've gladly shared my experience. This visit won't keep me from coming back, but next time I'll stick with what made me a Skeeter's fan in the first place--the burgers, tacos, and breakfast.

I went with the mesquite grilled pork chop, it came with sweet tater fries and grilled veggies, it was very tasty. I think this is owned by the same people that have Los Tios and Adair's Kitchen. The grandbaby snacked off of all our plates.
