On 2/26/26, I bought a fish sandwich they are selling for the Lent season. About an hour and a half later I started feeling sick. I was having chills, shivering, stomach discomfort, headache, and diarrhea. The experience lasted about 1 day and a half. I'm glad it didn't get worse and I didn't have to go to the hospital. I first went thru the drive thru at 8:26 pm. I ordered a plain burger. When I got home. It was a burger made ALL THE WAY. Completely wrong. Even the receipt had my right order. My husband went back to the restaurant to have my burger remade. When he got back home again, this time my burger was RAW. He decided to call the store to get some type of credit. He spoke with a manager named "Citaly" (not sure if I'm spelling it right). She told him we should go in the sooner the better. They're everywhere in TX and since being bought by that Chicago company (still weird and uncertain how I feel about that) they are expanding into other states to eat up (sorry for the pun) more of that burger fast food market share! Fir the 1st time, I ordered using their app. The app is free and easy to use (no I don't work fir them). I got my typical meal: Doube burger with EVERYTHING- bacon, avocado, grilled onions, jalapeños- all dat. Some fries with their creamy pepper sauce, usually on tgeir patty melt, my 2nd favorite. Legit the best Whataburger in town! Such a big statement, and why you ask? We had our second wedding and reception here! On our wedding day after all was said and done and the reception ended, I was craving some good old French fries with spicy ketchup and gravy. We took a handful of our wedding party here and decided to re-enact the whole wedding ceremony, which by the way the manager allowed us to hold. It was great and the whole staff at Whataburger cheered on. It was a jolly good time all for laughs and positive vibes. Our reception was here as well of course. They even offered us a discount and clapped at our "ceremony". While we were eating during our "reception", the two managers on shift that night, Claudia and Eric, presented my husband and I, bride and groom, a card signed by the entire staff! Food was warm at best even though I got there for curbside pickup within my pickup window. They also forgot to add the $.50 cheese that I paid for in my Whataburger jr. I'm not sure how to begin this review. I'll be reaching out to Whataburger directly as well. The service tonight was horrible. The line was to the door when we first walked in and there was only 1 cashier taking orders. Her name is Jordan. She did not greet anyone. Not a hello or hi. In fact, when another cashier finally showed up to assist the long line (at this point the people behind us were probably waiting 15 minutes in line), Jordan told her in a sassy tone 'thank you for helping'. No smiling no nothing. Our cashier, Jordan, never once smiled or made eye contact. After we said thank you, she never looked at us. Nothing. And to top it off, the male in the white collared shirt, which I believe was the manager, was walking around and at times was bagging food. He never acknowledged the customers that were patiently waiting. Just plain horrible... When the food came out, rather quickly to my disbelief, our sandwiches were warm, luke warm. Not hot. The only thing hot were my husbands fries as my onion rings were were also warm. This is probably the 4th or 5th Whataburger I have been to in my life and the first time I was literally blown away by the customer service. EVERY employee was extremely friendly and helpful. And when they brought the food to the table you would have thought you were at a full service restaurant with servers. They did everything to ensure we had everything we needed and didn't try to rush us at all. The breakfast was surprisingly great too, the cinnamon roll was outstanding as were the pancakes and sausage. It was also nice getting to order a burger at 9am. I had a pretty decent experience here. I did wait 30 mins to get a mobile order, but the staff was moving and working hard. It wasn't like they were just sitting around doing nothing. By the time we got the food it was all lukewarm, definitely seemed like it had been sitting there for a while which was disappointing but at least it still tasted good. The fries were bland, not much salt. The real winner was surprisingly the fish. It was nice, flakey, and moist in the center. The outside was super crunchy. Out of all the things I didn't expect them to have really good fish. The chocolate shake reminded me of Wendy's. They tasted identical so although it was good, it wasn't really special. We are in town for a much needed stress free vacation. I can't tell how much stress this location caused and the under-trained managers they have here. We bought over $87 worth of food and drinks and discovered when we returned to our Airbnb they left off one #11 Grilled Chicken Sandwich Meal, So I had to come back and tried to convince the management that the meal was missing and my meal was back at the Airbnb getting old and cold hoping they would make good on both just for good customer service and basic human decency. But NO, they only gave us the sandwiches not the fries. Since the chicken sandwich was for one of my grandchildren I took that and left my hamburger on their drive through. So on my way back to the the house I stopped at Burger Boy and ordered fries for both of us and a burger for me. While waiting I told them what happened and the next thing that happened surprised the hell out of me. The manager came around the counter, cash in hand, and says...... Please don't think all San Antonians are obtuse like the folks at Whataburger, please let me buy you lunch. And he gave me back what I had paid. I think the reason this place gets so many stars is because if you say anything bad about certain Texas staples like Whataburger and HEB that some will come to fisticuffs if you disparage their favorite places. Yeah I know some of you Yelpers take it seriously. There is the good and the bad. I will start with the bad about this location. This WAB is located right on the access road of 1604 in the Alamo Ranch area and when turning out on the exit facing 1604. Turning out can be very hazardous as the right turn that you can only make is not that far from an two exit ramps merging from two heavily traveled roads. There are cars speeding at you from the left from these two ramps and they are trying to merge and get over in a very short distance. The good. WAB is one of those fast food places that stands a bit above others. When compared to BK, Sonic or the golden arches WAB in my opinion is better by far. From my experience the food always comes out hot to include the fries. Nothing worse than lbarely warm fries that have been sitting under a warming lamp. The size of the burgers are much bigger when compared to other establishments filling this category of fast food. There are other selections such as breakfast items, chicken sandwiches, and chicken tenders but I must tell you about their prize item. They might not advertise it as much but WAB has the apple pie turnovers that are fried. Remember those that McDonalds had back in the day and then they started baking them? Ughhh. Well WAB picked up the reign and have the ones that I used to get back in the day. They are just as good and bring back memories. When the late-night hits and you are in need of something to get you through your midnight hunger or a late night of drinking leading to bad choices. Make the choice and stop at a WAB. The fastest Whataburger ever. I went there on a Sunday night after 10. It was more crowded than I expected I suppose because other places were already closed. I took a chance and got in the drive thru line. It was moving so fast I never had a chance to put my car in park. The person in front of me turned out to have a huge order. Im annoyed with Whataburger today. After waiting in line for an hour which was fine, they did not want to take my gift cards because their machine would not swipe the cards, which I said ok fine. Then they forget to put my onion rings in the bag and unfortunately I drove off before I noticed so I turned around from Culebra and waited outside for 5-10 minutes for them just to run ab order of Med. onion rings out to me. Once I got home we noticed all our food fries and all were cold as can be and when I opened my mushroom and Swiss burger I counted 4 mushrooms and I paid for extra, at this point I think their service the worst!! I've heard a lot of my Texas friend mention Whataburger while on Xbox or Facebook so now that I'm here visiting I of course had to check it out. Specially since they said it was better then in-n-out. The service was great from the 3 employees that I interacted with. Very friendly and very helpful. I ordered the Triple Meat With Cheese. The only thing that annoyed me was that most places charge you between 40 to 80 cents for cheese here is no difference 50cents per slice. So 1.50 for cheese seemed kinda a bit much. I got the combo came with fries and a drink and I ordered some onion rings also. Onions rings were decent and the fries too. The burger was really good. It was weird to me it only came with mustard no ketchup or mayo, but I added spicy ketchup left over from fries and my burger was supper yummy. Better then in-n-out? The breakfast is pretty good, especially the biscuits. I like to get the biscuit with sausage gravy. There are big chunks of breakfast sausage in the gravy. The honey butter chicken biscuit is basically one of their chicken strips on a biscuit with a honey butter sauce. I do not recommend the sauce. It is very processed and smells funny. As you walk in the entire staff welcomes you with a "welcome to whataburger " this goes all the way from the back with the cooks. They get your order right completely all tbe way to the toasted bun.
