If I could give them negative stars I would. Their billing department is so unbelievably lazy, they will claim they never got anything via fax or even email, just so they don't have to work. Wish I had checked the reviews before just trying to schedule an appointment. The person I spoke with tried to be nice but threatened me with charges for a test that MAY not be given. I explained what I thought I needed, as I am between providers for my condition at the moment, and rather than trying to convince me to see the doc first she completely made it clear they are just a chop shop, and not really in it to provide patient care. "I just want you to know that you may be charged if the doctor doesn't agree that you need that..." [said in a politely condescending tone]. Well lady that is why I called you and described my symptoms and shared my ver personal reason for seeking help. But really...what kind of reputable medical establishment charges you for something they can refuse to perform after you get there for it? Given two stars only because they at least answered the phone, but they sure do a great job at making you feel like they are doing you a real favor if you get suckered into using them. My surgery with Dr. Michael Andreoli went wonderful. I was apprehensive prior to surgery but Dr. Andreoli soothed my concerns. His bedside manner is fantastic. He answered all my questions kindly, calmly and in a way that I understood completely. He explained what to expect and he was right on. I had no pain during or after the surgery. Before this surgery, I went to Dr. Bradly Sacher who performed cataract surgery on each eye and it was equally painless. The staff at both the Wheaton office and Naperville office was caring and thoughtful of my comfort and care. Dr. Michael Andrieoli performed vitrectomy operations on my left eye and a few months later on my right eye with fantastic success. (Prior cataract surgery was equally successful and performed by Dr. Bradley Sacher.) As with many other surgeries over the years, I was especially apprehensive about potentially dangerous vitrectomy surgery, which was intended to remove extreme, age-related floaters. Besides the surgical skills of Dr. Andrieoli and his team who completely restored my (previously annoying, stressful) vision, the Wheaton Eye Clinic staff at both Naperville and Wheaton locations provided friendly, caring, competent, professional service to me along my entire experiences there. This included scheduling appointments (new and follow-up), greeting upon arrival, and especially the pre-and-post exam eye technicians. As a family of four, we deal with a lot of different kinds of medical/dental/vision bills, but this is by far the most unorganized and ridiculous Billing department I have ever dealt with. I should first say that the reason we came here was for children's vision therapy for my then three year old son. I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Kipp and his staff's capability to work quickly and effectively with squirmy children. My son's vision surgery was successful and he no longer has a drifting eye. However, after that, all comments go downhill. As an adult, if you need glasses and contacts, prepare for two separate doctor visits, and two sets of bills. And don't expect them to be covered fully, even if they are within your network. Secondly, if more than one of your family members comes here, don't expect them to apply your payment (even when it has the appropriate account number on the check) to the right account. Confusion, disorganization, and subsequent calls about balances you've already paid. Lastly, like most hospitals or doctors offices offer for larger bills, we setup a payment plan. Well, even after making payments regularly as agreed upon, we continued to get pesky rude phone calls about the outstanding balance, and even after one billing person would apologize and say they noted the account as agreed upon by the previous caller, another one would call a couple weeks later. Not to mention the letters threatening to send it to a collections agency. This was the straw where we just paid it in full and vowed never to do business with them again. We had a fantastic first appointment. The nurse was energetic, smart, and friendly. Dr Kipp was perfect with my son -- he has Down syndrome and doctors often treat him like a child (he's 14). Dr Kipp treated him like a teenager. Even told me that the Down syndrome community is his favorite group of people to treat. One thing during COVID -- the room we were in was not cleaned before the next patient, then still not cleaned when we re-entered after. Otherwise, they were absolutely awesome!! read more

Two stars might be a bit generous. Prior to my first visit, as a patient, to Wheaton Eye Clinic on Monday, April 16, my impressions leaned towards fairly positive towards this "Vatican" of eye care in the western suburbs. A family member had cataract surgery at the Wheaton location within the last three years, and I was their ride. My interaction with the doctors and staff at that time was satisfactory. This person's eye surgery was mutually deemed a success. My concern about the Wheaton location was that parking was horrific, and also, the waiting room was unacceptably too small. There were people hanging on ever corner of the room. Fast forward to a few days before April 16, 2018. Now needing the services of an ophthalmologist myself, I made an appointment at the Raymond Drive, Naperville location with little difficulty or delay. This was a good thing. The afternoon of the 16th arrives and I enter the clinic. I check in with this sort of "dead-eyed" and bored younger woman, sitting at the circular desk, who was neither happy to see me nor did she show delight in trying to help. I specifically asked her if the Dr. (Michelson) was running on time. She replied with a half-hearted affirmative. She did not know, and did not care. There was almost no eye contact. I ended sitting in the front waiting room for some forty minutes beyond my appointment time. While killing time on my phone, I heard a shrill fishwife of a voice call my name. I get up and am cursorily greeted by a Nancy, who whisks me back to a room. The interrogation begins. Fortunately, I had typed up all the medicines and supplements that I was taking, so that I could relay that information to her in one easy action. While I think that she was trying her best to be OK, it became clear that she really had few patient interaction or conversational skills. Like many other medical facilities, she had become a mindless drone for a doctor, the result of attending some community college's paramedical training program. She leaves, but not before trying to sell me an unneeded extensive eye exam with a dilation. Even a high school student would have known that both would have been unnecessary with my particular situation. After a very long wait in this room, alone, I finally stepped out into the hallway to ask one of the doctor drones when Dr. Michelson would see me. She made some excuse for his being late. Meanwhile, a female patient, in an adjacent room, who had been talking loudly and for a long time in the waiting room, continued to yammer away at full tilt. The woman had that breaking glass sort of voice. None of the staff had thought to close the door to her room, or ask her to tone it down. During the time that I was waiting for Dr. Michelson in the room, I eventually noticed how dirty the exam room was. The wall-mounted phone was full of dust. The walls were smeared with streaks of who-knows-what. The painted drywall was scuffed and the carpet looked as if it needed a good cleaning. It was disgusting. Was I in a medical facility or in the Jiffy Lube waiting room? Finally, the doctor comes in. Genuinely, I can say that he was fine. He diagnosed my condition and then recommends that I see a Dr. Pak. I leave and go out to the round desk and make an appointment for April 23. April 23 arrives. Surprisingly, from the waiting room, I get called for my appointment by a younger woman with slightly better interpersonal skills than Nancy, and more pleasant a speaking voice, within only a few minutes of my arrival. Being somewhat of a robot, she also tries to sell me an unneeded full eye exam and dilation. In once again respectfully declined the offer. I replied that my condition probably did not warrant those things. Not too long after she leaves, Dr. Pak comes in and introduces himself. After the salutation, I almost immediately sense that he is first, rushing my visit, and second, not really listening. I tried to explain another recent condition that probably tied into the eye situation. Then I related my health to a chronic condition. By now, I have a strong awareness that he has checked out. This is why I try to avoid male doctors, as listening skills are thin, at best. "Not making the connection." He mumbles out loud in a dismissive tone, several times. "Are we going to do this?" he says, referring to a proposed steroid injection for my problem. I agree and then he administers the injection. He informs me that the issue will resolve itself in two days, and that I should make a follow up appointment for a week from now. I leave the office with tissues soaking up minute amounts of blood, tears and steroidal solution, heading to the front. I return to the circular desk. That is, the large, circular desk of mass confusion. It never seems to be clear as to who will help next patient. Within a minute, a friendly, middle-aged woman summons my attention and we confer about my next appointme read more

Really sick and tired of lousy customer service everywhere and businesses trying to squeeze every penny out of people. Sung) performed for cataracts went great and my vision is better than when I was in my twenty's. I had a very specific issue(unrelated to the surgery) and dr. Alan Jin spent a lot of time with me and came up with a solution. both doctors were very knowledgeable and approachable as well as professional. wait time was short and cost was very reasonable. The doctors are great once you can get passed the hour wait to see them. I have never waited less than an hour to see one (mind you I always had appointments). The last straw was one time I had an eye issue. I called to get an appointment, and had to hold for 15 minutes to speak to someone, who took my info to have a nurse call me back to ask me all the same questions to determine if i really needed an appointment that day. While waiting for the call, i called a different eye doctor, went to an appointment, and got a prescription filled, before the nurse even called me back. I will never go to Wheaton Eye Clinic again. Its a shame that they operate the way they do because the doctors are good. But, I can get great care elsewhere without the hassle. read more

The facility itself is clean. The techs clean all the equipment in front of you, which is nice. It was pretty easy to get an appointment, and insurance is accepted for the exam itself. If you want to get an insurance discount on your frames or lenses, you need to submit that on your own. Upon arriving, you need to check in. The nurse wasn't that friendly, but it was the end of the day, she was efficient though. I was called in after a fairly short wait - 10 minutes at most - and had my first set of tests done with one tech, and then I was led to another room where a different tech did more testing and then dilated my eyes and did a little more. Both techs had an attitude that screamed "I hate my job". They were pleasant, mind you, but they were either bored or ready to go home already. Once that was done, I was taken to the doctor's exam room and left to sit there and wait. It struck me as odd that the door was left open. I've never been led to an exam room and had the door left open before. The doctor came in after another short wait - again no more than 10 minutes. She was nice enough, but was fixated on my wandering eye. Before even looking at my eyes - she had looked at my chart though. She'd grabbed that and disappeared before coming into the room - she said "We can fix that." I wasn't there because of my eye. It's been doing that since birth due to nerves that aren't developed. Before I knew it she was giving me a referral to another doctor to get it aligned. I was there for a diabetic eye exam! Finally, she looked at my eyes and yet all the time she was going on and on about my eye and how they can make it straight so it doesn't look bad in pictures, but that I'll never see out of it. (Not sure insurance will cover that as it seems to be cosmetic...and I never did get the referral handed to me.) Once I was done, I went to the part of the office where I was to pick out frames. Laura was super sweet and even offered to take a picture of me to send off to my friend so she could weigh in on the frames I couldn't decide between. The price was crazy once everything was put together. I ended up canceling my order and I'm taking my prescription elsewhere. All in all, my eyes were examined and that was the point of the visit. I never really felt welcome. I never saw any smiles and the bedside manner of not only the nurse at the check in, but the techs needs some major improvement. They did a great job once I was able to be seen however, unlike the big name places, expect to wait at least a week or two to get in with an appointment. Also expect the most frustrating phone experience ever. Lots of voice automated direction and transfers from one department to another. Shame on them for not having a handle on that part of their business but, then again, nobody's perfect. read more

I have been going to the Wheaton Eye Clinic at Raymond Drive for at least 20 years. I had cataract surgery in both eyes. Dr. Michelle Sims has been my doctor for most of these years. Frankly, I am surprised to see the negative reviews great this outfit. I found the staff including reception, nurses friendly and polite.I never had any difficulty with the billing Deptt. It was easier to get follow up appointments. Actually, once I experienced a problem with my eyes when I was vacationing in Greece. I phoned them from Athens and received assurance, advice and prompt follow up appointment upon my return to USA. Dr. Sims is so caring, cheerful and professional. Horrible experience at Wheaton Eye Clinic. Between waiting two hours (without even seeing a doctor) and being expected to drive home basically blind (made me remove my contacts and not providing a sample after saying they would) I would NOT recommend to anyone. They began my exam without knowing my prescription. I continued to tell the woman everything she was showing me was blurry, but she did not listen until I was seeing lines and felt nauseous. Then, she put eye drops in my eyes that BURNED. After I continued to have a headache and not see the letters she was showing me: she decided to dilate my eyes and send me back to the waiting room. So, I then had to drive home with dilated eyes, and no contacts. Awful experience, I will never return and do not recommend to anyone! read more

I had an appt today for what is likely a 10 min procedure. I was seen 30 min late by a tech only to find out they scheduled me for an eye exam. I explained, as I had done when making the appt, my D.O. referred me after my exam 3 business days, for this procedure. The tech when to speak to dr. They wanted me to wait at least 30 more minutes and likely more due to "all the people ahead of me." She also said to make a "medical appt" would have same wait next time as some of these people have waited 6-8 months for their appts! Do NOT go here unless you want to lose your vision. Had cataract surgery. First they did the surgery WITHOUT anesthesia. So, I was awake and felt like they were jabbing a hot poker in my eyeball the entire time. Their only answer to this was to be still and deal with it. Second they put the wrong lens in my eye and I can't see with it. They also refuse to put the correct lens in to fix their error. Lastly there is so much black debris floating in my eye that I can barely see through it and they have no answer for that other than to see if it is better with time. I waited an hour after the my appointment time.Three different ophthalmology techs did different eye tests before I saw the ophthalmologist. I was then scheduled for cataract surgery. The procedure took all of 5-10minutes but the surgery center charge that I had to pay out of pocket( I had insurance) was $1250 dollars and the charge for a teaspoon of oral sedative was $400( only $80 covered by insurance) by any anesthesiologist I never saw. Then the charge for the actual surgical procedure was $3200( $825 out of pocket). They unbundle all their charges and don't tell you this up front. Check some other ophthalmology group and get their prices up front. I am pleased with the outcome but I am sure there other groups in Dupage oounty who can do the same procedure at a lower cost. I would not recommend the Wheaton Eye Clinic for cataract surgery based on their cost. read more

My husband had cataract surgery this summer (2018). On Oct. 1 he visited the Hinsdale office for a follow up and was measured for new lenses in his glasses. It is now Oct. 26 and his glasses are still not ready! What's up with the optical department that they can't make a pair of eye glasses in less than almost a month!! I called to inquire about a simple follow up appointment, after having been to a convenient care a few days back. I was on hold for about 5 minutes just waiting to speak to someone about if I needed a referral ect... The lady I got on the phone was immediately very rude and condescending. I figured I would still ask even if my first impression already was that this office was probably full of people similar to this one receptionist. My conversation with her went downhill quickly, after having answered my initial question she went on to start questioning me about why I had even bothered to go to the convenient care and not an actual doctor to begin with. I'd like to preface this review in that I am an experienced surgical nurse..... I no longer visit this location as my experiences were terrible. First of all the receptionists have attitudes, are unhelpful, and just plain don't care. Upon my first visit, I told each of the four different people who ran tests on me before I actually saw the doctor that I did not want my eyes dilated because I was returning to work after my appointment. Sure enough, I finally got seen by The M.D. and he tilted my head back telling me he just wanted to lubricate my eyes before the exam... I trusted he got the message about my returning to work and upon questioning the drops, he admitted to dilating my eyes. He then cracked a joke that at least I wasn't returning to work... I told him I was and that I worked in cardiac surgery. He got the point, and was extremely apologetic and remorseful. However, it was too late to win me back. Never again. My second visit was to an O.D. My brown hair has pink highlights and he felt the need to run his fingers down a section of my hair at the beginning of the exam. I was mortified, and felt so uncomfortable. I now see Michelle Andreoli at the Wheaton location and am happy. read more

Dr. Viorin is AMAZING!! One of the best docs I've ever seen professionally. Easy going and wonderful bedside ( chair side ) manner. Performed cataract surgery yesterday and I'm back for normal today. Going in next Friday for cataract surgery on other eye, I can hardly wait! After 55 years will be free from wearing eyeglasses. Worst eye experience I have had ever. They bounce you around between technicians who do a poor job. The doctors looks at your chart for 30 seconds and is gone. I have had to go back 2x because the prescription continues to be wrong after ordering lenses. Go somewhere else and save time and headaches. read more
