My fellow Celiac's! This place is HEAVEN! As many other reviews have stated this place really is 100% gluten free. Imagine being able to eat freely, without hesitation or fear. You'll love it here. The quality of the food is also impressive. We are not punished with extra costs simply because items are gluten free. Nope. We are GIFTED with divine food and at prices that match. After generally visiting during weekdays for either a late breakfast or early lunch I finally had a chance to brunch here last weekend. I had the Prosciutto Benedict with a side of homefries ( shared with my friend ), hot tea and mimosas. Sorry, my food was so good that I can't remember what my friend had. So happy to find a gluten-free bakery/cafe while visiting Chicago. We tried a little of everything, and it was all delicious. The popover was amazing! I loved the everything bagel and lox....so good, the herb cream cheese and pickled onion were both delicious. And the bagels - wow!! GF bagels never taste good - but here they are superb! We tried the eggs benedict with prosciutto and asparagus....good, but I like lots and lots of bernaise sauce and the sauce with these was on the skimpy side, but still super tasty. My daughter got a 3 egg omelette with a blueberry bagel and honey butter, all of which she loved. I wish there was a Wheats End Cafe in Michigan!! read more

Literally was able to have all of the breakfasts that I haven't been able to eat in four years since discovering I couldn't eat gluten or dairy and thought I would never have again! I have three different plates in front of me every time. Chocolate chip waffles, short rib and bagel with lox are my all time favorites, though everything I've tried there is AMAZING. I don't have a gluten allergy, but a dear one of mine is, so I love this place! It's so rare that someone with a gluten allergy can eat anything off the menu. It's a beautiful thing. As a gluten-eater, I was really impressed with the pancakes. I'm not even a huge pancake fan (more of a waffle or french toast girl), but they were so. good. We also ordered the open face egg sandwich. I wish the egg was a bit more flavored and included a bit more bacon, but that dish was also pretty good. I also had a couple sips of the iced mocha which was ah-mazing. Kinda wish I ordered my own. Bottom line is they seem to use fresh ingredients, so you can't go wrong. read more

The service was good and the space is nice. There weren't many people in there, but we were there at an odd time between lunch and dinner. My buddy got the Lamb Burger. The server asked how my friend would like the burger done. He requested Medium Rare. It was delivered very, very well done. The bun was also pretty tough, so it made for a difficult sandwich to chew. He said it's the worst sandwich he's had in many years. The fries it came with were fine. It appeared to come with homemade ketchup, which he liked and I think is pretty cool. The pickles also looked homemade. It's a really nice touch... if only the burger had been better. I had the Classic Benedict with spinach and ordered a donut to go. Having looked at the reviews, I'm even more perplexed by the Benedict that I was served. The entire plate was swimming in a sauce, and none of the Benedicts I see in the pictures on here appear that way. I wasn't sure what it was exactly, so I didn't send it back, but eventually, it revealed itself to be a broken Hollandaise sauce. I mean... that's a pretty bold thing to send out of a kitchen. The english muffin it was served on was very, very tough. However, the spinach was done beautifully, as was the asparagus. I was absolutely starving, so I ate it, but I'd surely never have done so, had I not been so hungry. I've been on the hunt for a good GF donut for 15 years, so despite the hit and miss of lunch, I wanted to give it a try. It tasted so strange. There was a very unusual after taste~ not the typical Xantham Gum taste you get from bad GF baked goods. It was different. Bitter. Just off, in my opinion. Maybe we hit the kitchen on a bad day, or maybe we ordered all the stuff that they don't do well. Everyone on here seems to love this place. I just can't say that I'd return. read more

Food: I don't know where to begin and don't want to overwhelm people, so here's the summary. Everything is gluten-free, and almost anything can be made vegan. They even brought out the package for us to read ingredients. You won't be let down with anything you order. The omelets are large and fluffy (no charge for extra ingredients). The popover is crispy ok the outside and slightly doughy in the center- try it with honey butter (vegan or dairy). Coffee is great- free refills. The vegan donuts are fluffy and a little crumbly but delicious. The pancakes were amazing. The waffle and cinnamon roll were a little dense for my taste. Wheats End has gone from meh to bleh. I had no idea someone could be so bad at cooking. This has turned into a hard "no" for me. Pro tip: Butter gets hard when you refrigerate it and hard butter doesn't spread. Leave the butter out for a little bit before giving it to customers. Pro tip: If you don't know how to cook potatoes, don't put them on the menu. Better yet, find a new hobby because you are ripping people off. Question for the owner: Why do you have awards for another restaurant hanging in your's? Did they come with the space? This isn't even close to a Michelin star... Well worth the drive from the burbs! It's difficult to find both gluten and dairy free options at restaurants near us, so this was very exciting to find. The atmosphere was very quaint and calming. They did an excellent job with social distancing, spreading out customers comfortably and cleaning protocols. Very impressed! I came here yesterday with my friend who is vegan. I had the blueberry pancakes and the bacon. I do not have any dietary restrictions and have never really sought out gluten-free options of anything. As a vegan who is also allergic to gluten, I've found it nearly impossible to find comfort food I can eat. I'm so glad I found this spot where I can not only order almost anything(!) off their expansive menu, but can do so without fear of cross-contamination. Made the mistake of switching whole milk for almond milk in my cappuccino, and barely had a centimeter of froth that disappeared outright. Lovely salmon tartare with a type of bread I've never had before, but the half bottle of capers unloaded onthe dish just completely destroyed the flavor balance for me. Even the onions were bitter. I have celiac disease so not worrying whether I will get sick from negligence or cross-contamination was a big stress releaser, this is why we drive 45 min to get there, it would be nice if they had a wait list to add on to remotely but we've gone twice now. The first time I splurged and got pancakes and one avocado toast with egg. The second time I ordered a chicken Gyro which was delicious! Gluten & Dairy Free Heaven! Love the popovers, my friend loved the pancakes, and the English muffin was yummy. The owner could not be sweeter or more accommodating! I left off one star because our waitress (long blonde hair) was less than desirable. She told us 3 times that they stop serving at 2:45 and it was 12:30! For a gluten free gal like myself - this place is a Godsend. They showcase all of their baked goods (cookies, muffins, pastries, biscotti, cinnamon rolls) so you can see how pretty they are..and they taste even better. The cool thing is they have all the favorites done perfectly - like a cinnamon roll. But then they also have more unique chef created items such as the warm spiced pear ginger pancake with pecans and syrup. Wow. Oh and they have an espresso bar and local Bridgeport coffee. My boyfriend knows I'm very sensitive when it comes to food and found this gluten free cafe for breakfast!! I was in shock that a 100% gluten free place existed!! Food was amazing! I had the Egg and Herb breakfast sandwich on their homemade English muffin with a side of spicy potatoes. My boyfriend ordered the bacon mushroom and cheddar omelet with a side of blueberry pancakes. We tried a bit of each plate and everything was just beyond expectations. And to top it off as we were leaving we grabbed some baked good from the front counter: pumpkin cinnamon roll, chocolate chip scone, and a double chocolate donut.
