Wheel works is an ironic name for this shop. Takes them half a day to swap out a set of four tires. I had the tires delivered the day before (via tire rack) so they already had then before my 10am appt time. Figured i would drop my car off and walk to the gym, workout and it would be done. Wrong. Took a full 4 hrs and 10 mins. There was only one other car in the shop when i returned but about five or six "techs" not doing much but obviously having a good time as i heard then laughing a couple times. Two stars because the tires look good and they discounted me about $28 for the delay. But i wont return even if i need warranty work. No point of having an appointment. read more

Made an appointment for 4pm. I arrived 15 minutes early and my car finally went in the shop around 5pm. The car was finished a short time after 6pm. The only service was to rebalance 4 tires. Not sure what was at at issue, but it seems this store is always short of staff. Its not a busy store, but apparently the upper management team need to look at how they are staffing to accommodate the cars coming in for their appointments or the walk in services. I would go to the Concord Wheel works, but recently when taking the car there, they forgot to tighten the new set of wheel locks and one had flown off. Glad it didn't damage the car! read more

I'm just gonna babble off my observations and try to be as objective as possible since most rely on Covid as an excuse to abandon customer service principles. Upon entry I waited about 5 minutes in an empty store for Someone to notice me. A worker just so happened to be drooping an envelop Into the slot where they put finished jobs...he asked have u been helped yet? No, I replied - he then called for some guy from the back and said " you have a customer ". I had a 2:00 pm appointment on Thursday afternoon. I Arrived at 1:45. I am sitting in the waiting still At 3:25....that's one and a half hour later. I just went to the counter to ask for an update on my car. " it's just being pulled in now and you're set to be out by 4pm. The main counter guys is on his phone leaning on the counter....while The phone goes unanswered and rings constantly. He answers maybe in the 4th ring. At about 4 o'clock I get called up. Handed an invoice. No print out of my alignment. Wasn't emailed or given to me by the customer service rep. Will I be returning to this location? Probably not. read more

I had a 9AM appointment, but one of the mechanics no-showed for work. I didn't get notified until an hour later that my car would be "next". After sitting in their office for 2 hours I was fed up and had to leave. Even if one mechanic no shows, as the second customer in the store that day I'm not sure why my car was pushed to the back of the line. There was a gentleman working the desk with customers who tried his best, but the work was piling up and the place was so understaffed. This was the biggest waste of time. read more

The best thing I can say is, Devin ended up not charging me for my oil change. For the rest -- I made an appointment ahead of time. I showed up on time, did the paperwork, they took the key and said to be back in 1 hour and 10 minutes. I took a walk around the area and came back in an hour. THEN they told me "oops, we didn't have the right oil filter for you, we're waiting for delivery." Like, you don't check to be sure you have what you need on hand instead of relying on what a computer says? But they had at least changed the oil, they said. OK, so I couldn't wait, left, said I'd be back the next day. Got home and checked the oil level - it was just 1/4th of the way above the Add line. I called and was told that was because the car was hot (even though I'd driven only about 4 miles away) and that it was perfectly normal and fine for it to read that way, no problem (even though I'd been taught otherwise). Went back the next day and spent another 30 minutes while they inserted the filter and topped off the oil level. And while I was told yesterday the low reading was fine because they checked the recommended number of quarts (3.8) and put in that amount, today the dipstick reads full. Hmmm.... I did some online research, looking at the recommendations of various auto and oil change professionals (including the car talk guys) and kept seeing them say to go by the dipstick, not by the manual or 'recommendations'. So... Thank you Devin for admitting this was a less than ideal experience and waiving the fee. It has me wondering if that $27.99 coupon special was such a good deal after all. read more

Devin was very responsive and knowledgeable to assist me on our blown out rear tire on our Tesla. It Happened late on a Friday night and I called many tire shops first thing Saturday. No one in area had a tire in stock to match and was told that it would be 5-7 working days before they could get tire and schedule. Devin indicated he would be able to get tire the following Monday and scheduled me for 11am. Work was completed on time and pricing was within reason. Well done. read more

I came here with a flat tire that I needed expedited immediately in order to get to work. I transport a lot of medical equipment for surgeries so it was important I was able to courier my equipment. Wheel Works and the workers there were able to squeeze me in and patch my tire which had a nail in it. They removed the nail, patched the leak, and filled up all my tires. The technician that did this told me that he wouldn't charge me. I said I wanted to pay and that they did me a favor. The technician responded with "i know it sucks to have a flat tire." This was a very kind response and a good deed done. I have a lot of respect for the technician and this branch of Wheel Works. read more

It was late on a Sunday morning and my low tire pressure went off on my drive home from San Francisco. I pulled over to a gas station in SF and found a screw head in my tire. The gas station did not have a working air pump, so I looked up tire shops in SF and Walnut Creek. SF had none nearby, so I called Big O Tires since America's Tires was closed. Big O said to get there before 1 and he could get me in. So, I slowly drove to Big O in WC. He took a look and said the screw was too close to the sidewall and that I needed a new tire. He then took down the tire type, looked it up, said it was special, then wondered if he wrote down the correct number, went back out, corrected what he wrote down, looked it up again, said it was special and that he did not have it in stock, and that it would be Monday before he could do it. I almost bought the new tire then, but said I would buy it on Monday. I then decided to take it to Wheel Works in WC. I'm glad that I did. Matthew was working the front desk. He came out to look at my wheel, said it didn't look like the screw was in the sidewall, sprayed it with soapy water, and didn't see any bubbles. He took air pressure readings on all of the tires, and the one with the screw was fine. He then pulled the screw out and checked for a leak again. No bubbles. He had me pull into the garage and I aired up my tires. He said the tires usually lose a little over time and need to be aired up every so often. I think I currently need to air them up about once a year, usually in the fall after the tires have made it through the hotter summers. Best of all...no charge! Tires were at 2/32, looking for best tires for the dollar. Call Wheel Works and spoke with Matthew. He was very nice and very knowledgeable on the many tires and recommended a good tire for my needs. He hooked me up and gave me a good price and a free tire depth gauge and Tire pressure gauge as well. Now that earned my business. They installed with out up selling me but informed me of wheel alignment issues of which I decided to have them adjust it as not to wear out these new Firestone AS BL tires. Great guy, great price, great service. He also gave me a quote for a set of tires for my 1999 C5 corvette when the time came for them to be replaced. Great job Matthew... I have been happily purchasing tires for about 25 years from Wheel Works, mostly in Walnut Creek. But on my last few visits to his store, they have demonstrated an unacceptable level of service. They botched the installation of one tire that went flat and destroyed the sidewall within 2 days and blamed it on a nail puncture (that did not exist). On my next visit, which had been set up via appointment the prior week, they did not have the tires in stock that had been promised and made me wait in their waiting room which reeked of carbon dioxide and other auto emissions. If you want to be told every little thing wrong with your car - even though all you came in for was to get a new tire, then this is the place to go! I went in to get a new tire and the next thing I knew they were chucking my air filter at the table next to me in the waiting room, as well as how I needed an oil change and OH I also had a major leak in my radiator that needed to be fixed ASAP! I had to keep telling them to stop using the fear tactics on me and the appeal to emotion tactics on me and just do what I asked them to do in the first place. BTW - my radiator is fine. Went to wheel works to have new brake pads. I had an appointment on Friday May 26 at 1 pm. I brought it in and they told me that they couldn't do the job that day, they were short handed, even though they gave me an appointment and made me drive to their location. They told me to bring it back on Sunday May 28 at 9am. I again brought my car back and again I was told that the guy who does brakes was sick and that they couldn't do the work that day. They again told me that If I bring it back on Wednesday May 31 at 9 am they would have me out before noon. I again bring it back on Wednesday May 31 and now I'm told that I would have to leave it all day. The manager or whoever the guy was who yold me that he would have it out by noon lies to me and says he doesnt remember telling me that. I now am so upset, not only with the worst customer service and ever, but the lies and excuses that these people use is inexcusable. It is my money and I will never spend a dime to support this kind of business. I have traveled to them 3 times and I will NEVER be back. This is not the way to do business and I encourage everyone to make a statement of not accepting lies from business owners like Wheel Works. Got a flat today, oh no! Luckily I wasn't too far from wheel works and managed to get there. I came about a half hour after they opened and they took my car no problem. They recommended me my tires and they didn't try to sell me on unnecessary add ons like other tire shops. They also did my alignment which came with 2 more for free. They checked my battery and notified me on its condition. Great service and front desk helper that got my car in and out in a timely manner. read more

I guess installing 2 bolts is too much liability. I called ahead the night before and they said no problem but when I arrived early AM, they turned down my business. All I needed was bolts installed on the exhaust flange to hold the downpipe to the cat (all OEM parts). I would do it myself but I couldn't find 2 bolts in my possession with matching nuts. If they can't install bolts on an exhaust, what can you trust trust this shop to do? I took it next door to the smog and repair shop and they took care of me. --- Few years ago I took my car in for an alignment here as well. After alignment the car pulled to the left so I took it to Wheel Works in Pleasanton to get it re-aligned where they found it was out of spec and asked me to always return to Pleasanton for alignment. Got 4 tires for the price of 3 - special!! With taxes, alignment, etc., was close to $700, so, I didn't necessarily feel like I got a bargain. Can't blame wheel works for that, though. The prices were consistent with other tire shops. Bottom line, 4 new tires, alignment, van drives straight when you take your hands off the wheel (I do this constantly to scare the other occupants of the vehicle). And you wonder why people don't trust car mechanics. So i went to this place because it was close to my old work place and because everyone has heard of Wheel Works. Now everyone will hear MY version of them. So i needed two tires changed. Simple...two back tires. They changed the tires. A little while later, i got a flat tire and took it back there to have the tire repaired. They said that it was their tire that had been punctured so they would be responsible, BUT that the puncture was on the side of the tire near the rim, rather than on the tread--so my warranty didn't cover "side of the tire" punctures. I asked them why it didn't, and they said because i didn't have the premium service upgrade that covers the whole tire. I told them that no one ever mentioned to me when i bought the tires that my tire wasn't fully covered, but they said it was too late, BUT they had another tire they could sell me for like $80 that would be covered. I told them that the other place down the road (America's Tire Company) has a policy where they will fix the tire regardless of where the puncture is. He said that Wheel Works could do the same thing, and just charge more too. That being said, i guess i'll never know if they changed their policy because i've changed mine...America's Tire Company and piece of mind for me...not the small print slimy slithering of this Wheel Works. I went back to this place for new tires for a different car..let me tell you this place is a SCAM...when my car was done the mechanic said it didn't need an alignment but when I went to pay the guy at the front desk tried to charge me for one but I told him what the mechanic said so he took out this diagnostic sheet that was made up (*he had two) and told me where it needed one..I finally called in the mechanic and he said they didn't perform one and the guy trying to charge us (Fred dark hair been there for a long time) took him outside and had words with the mechanic. I spent 2 hours in Wheel Works waiting for them to install a new battery in my truck. I did not have an appointment. First of all, the price I was quoted when phone shopping for the battery included tax and installation hence one star (not all stores did this), the second star came when the price turned out to be the best I was quoted out of 5 calls I made. The third star came when they did the job within the time quoted even though they were very busy. The fourth star came when I witnessed how customers with problems were treated. There was none of the very common defensiveness or lack of interest or any attempt to charge for what clearly seemed to be a problem with the work. The fifth star came because the entire staff is professional. That is all I have to say. read more

I've always had decent service here. It my main complaint is they ALWAYS park cars in the handicapped spot that should not be there. My gf went down to have tires put on, she was recovering from hip surgery. She was forced to park far away and walk up which was quite an ordeal for her. She mentioned that a car without a handicapped placard was in the spot. They said "we run out of parking so we park cars that are ready for pickup there". That's a piss poor excuse! Save that spot for someone who needs it. After she brought it to their attention, I went in a few weeks later. There it was, a car with 4 new tires in the handicapped spot that should not have been there. Obviously they don't care about customers with issues that need to park closely. read more

When I showed up at 2, they asked me when I would like to pick up my car?!............Isn't that the point of making an appointment?!! They told me to come back around 4, but that they would call me first. I called at 3:45, since my neighbor would have to bring me down and I didn't want to waste her time, they said that they were very busy and that it should be ready in about 20 mins but that they would call me first, to which I responded that's why I made an appointment and brought in at 2. This place is the worst! I have an appointment for 5 pm and as I sit her over an hour later, my car is still not being worked on. When I go to the front desk to complain, he inquires at to " which vehicle do you have again?" My boyfriend goes to look at how many cars are currently being worked on....NONE!! That's right, the work area is empty. I'm sitting here and not one car is getting worked on. When I point out that I have an appointment and clearly this means nothing, he states that's for when a work station opens up, I'm next. That like a dentist you don't actually get the time you come in for. Seriously??? I will NEVER come here again. His pointing out that "I seem upset", while my car sits, no cars are being serviced and despite an appointment time, I still sit in your crappy waiting room pissed that I'm still without tires on my car?!? To top it all off, I bought my tires online and can't fit them in my car, otherwise I would have left already!! Update to my experience in my review on 1/27/2012. I was contacted by Tom, the manager, at Wheel Works. I calmly explained the situation and once he saw the pictures of what happened, he understood my gripe. He explained that they did not drill any holes in the strut towers. They removed the alignment pins from the strut mounts in order to align the car. While researching about this, I found that the alignment pin can be removed to accomplish the alignment. This would have been okay had it been the last resort and the final step in trying to get the car to align. My gripe at this point was that they made an irreversible (except for replacing parts) change to my car. In the process, they also did a bit of damage to the surrounding paint. Since they had such a hard time aligning the car, they should have addressed any underlying problems first-worn bushings front & rear. I knew I had worn bushings and planned to replace them (which was later confirmed by an outside shop). In speaking with Tom, who was very calm and professional, we both agreed that there was a breach of my trust and confidence with Wheel Works. Although he made a generous offer, I declined since I felt it was not fair to them. All in all, I have to give props and kudos where due. Tom and Wheel Works really stepped up to the plate. They wanted to make sure that I was happy and that I would consider coming back for future business and recommend them. While I am still hesitant to bring my car back, I would not hesitate to recommend their work or to bring the wife's car here. Wheel Works has a history with me. I have always been happy with their service and the level of work over the past 20+ years or so. The Walnut Creek store in particular. I've taken a quite a few of my cars there. If the same thing happened to me again, I would not hesitate to write another bad review of any company/business. I believe in the power of the internet and that we all can benefit from forums such as yelp for good and for bad. This includes businesses. How else can they improve/change unless they get candid and sometimes unbridled reviews of their work/business. Times have changed and the speed at which word of mouth is spread happens instantly. Again, good or bad. Sorry for the long post, but I felt I owed it to Tom and Wheel Works to explain the situation in detail and the steps they took to remedy it. Came in with my girlfriend's Lexus. Rear right brake was squeaking. The vehicle had been to this store before and the owner had spent over $1,500 on "stuff" so I figured they would be cool to a returning customer. I was wrong. An hour later the car is up on the lift and all (4) wheels are off. The salesman says, "... You need rear brake pads and rear brake rotors, ALSO your front pads are "cracked" and those front rotors are "UNSAFE" because the cracked pads warped them. . . you also need (4) new tires, even though the rear right is almost new, it is dangerous and "UNSAFE" to have "mismatched" tires on your car..." The estimate was $975. I said I had to have the car within an hour, so put it back together like it is, as I have to pick up my child at school. The salesman then says "... well you really shouldn't leave here in an "UNSAFE" vehicle, so what we will do is get you a rental car so you can leave your car here with us..." I said, Wow, no thanks. Just put the wheels back on and I'll take my chances. I'm stunned he didn't try to sell me the Brooklyn Bridge. . . after all, the Bay Bridge is probably unsafe. read more

Tom was very friendly and helpful over the phone and when I arrived he and Mark greeted me and explained the best tires for my car and worked with me to get the best pricing. The work was completed, including new wiper blade installation, and I was out on the road within a reasonable amount of time. I had an appointment but my appointment time was not honored. When I asked how much longer it would be to even begin my car, I was told I should go elsewhere if I wasn't happy. Also, the person helping me tried to tell me 3 to 4 hours was the normal time frame to install new tires. I believe because I am a woman he was trying to tell me this lie. He did not change his stance until I informed him to look up my account and could see this was not the first set of tires I had purchased from your company. He then admitted it shouldn't normally take more than 1 1/2 hours especially with an appointment. He told me he would "rush" my car with such an attitude that I am concerned my car wasn't properly serviced. Furthermore, I was not the only customer who was displeased. There were a minimum of 6 other customers who were complaining about the lack of timely service and lying about when the cars would be completed. Each interaction I witnessed was met with the same treatment I received...just plain rudeness. When my car was finally finished, I was working with a different gentleman. This person was collecting over $400 from me but couldn't wait until I was gone to spit his chewing tobacco spit into a old, brown spit filled, dirty water bottle. This was the most unprofessional experience I have ever had in any type of business. I will never recommend your company to any one. read more

I've been going to Wheel Works WC since 2010 and have had nothing but excellent service each time. The other night I called around 7:15pm as I had pulled over due to odd noises coming from the front of my car. Turns out one of my tires was shot and a piece of rubber was shredded off - thus the loud noise. Tony answered my call and proceeded to tell me they had just closed, but they'd be open at 7am the next day. I explained my situation and that I was actually just a few minutes away. He let me know I was placing myself at risk for a blowout due the severe condition of my tire. That said - he gladly offered stay open so I could bring my car in immediately and they'd lock it in the garage overnight. They got to work the next day and I picked up my car that night. My entire experience was seamless, hassle-free and very efficient. Excellent customer service is few and far between nowadays, so it's great to see some businesses still go that extra mile. read more

Doing a little research, I was definitely upsold to a much more expensive tire than I needed. They have a W speed rating - lets me go 168mph - which I never do. They also are more 'responsive' as it is a performance tire. Now I can't buy 2 replacement tires that aren't a W rating b/c all the stores I called will only let me match the W rating of these tires. On top of that, apparently W rated tires have no warranty of how long they'll last. In the end, I bought 4 new tires that have a warranty of 70,000 miles and ditched the others that I bought (potenzas). I won't be returning to this store. read more

Brought my car in for brakes and while they had it someone hit my car while parked because they have very tight parking. I complained and they said I couldn't prove the damage happened while they had it so I ended up having to pay my $500 collision deductible thanks to their careless parking of my car! I also got burned on their six month 0% promotion which is a SCAM through Credit First National Association. If you set up on automatic payments they automatically stop your auto payments and if you don't re-start it in time you get hit with late fees and a bad hit on your credit report. Let me tell you something, I've been a customer at that place for about 3 years. I've had my rear and front struts changed, tired, rotors, braking pads done etc. I've spent over $4,000.00 there and I am done with that shop full of rude, unprofessional, confusing, scamming so called car "mechanics". I've been ripped off there multiple times, and the job they do is poor. For instance, I had my front struts changed 2 years ago because the noise was coming from the struts. Less than 6 months, same noise came back. I called them and told them what was happening. They told me I have to bring back my car and pay 40 bucks for them to look at it,and another 700 to fix it if there is a problem with the struts AGAIN. They will rip you off in a second. They will charge you for stuff that doesn't even need to be fixed ! No joke, last time I was there back in September 2010, the guy charged $200.00 extra for rear brakes, when I told him that I just wanted the front ones done. He got all rude and pissed when I told him that I didn't want the rear wheels done. I had to talk to the manager though next day, he refunded me the labor. Everyone is rude and unprofessional there except the manager. I don't understand why someone here would even give this shop a 5 star rating. All I can say, now I know a lot more about cars, and what needs to be done on them. If you wanna get work done here, proceed with caution, I've been at this location about 6 times,and it seems to me that they only know how to change tires, but that's about it. read more

Absolutely awful customer service. They broke a rim on my BMW while repairing a flat and committed to ordering me a replacement and fixing it the next weekend. I've either phoned or returned to the store 6 times since...every time they apologize profusely while admitting that they forgot to order the part and then commit to ordering it ASAP and phoning me to schedule a repair as soon as it arrives. This process has taken 4 months and I still do not have a resolution. Stay away ... If you have any kind of issue with them you will be required to jump through hoops for a resolution. read more

The prices are good and the tires are fine and I would like to give more stars, but the service was not up to par. Did 2 new tires which worked well for 2 months. After that, I had a small leak which was causing me to put air in the tire every other day. I decided to bring it in and get the other 2 tires done and fix the leak. With an on time arrival for an appointment at 9am, I found myself with a 2 1/2 hour wait. After getting the tires on, I found myself with 2 new tires and the same leak. Rather than taking it in for the same thing they did not repair the first time and another 2 1/2 hours, I took my car to Orinda Tires where JJ found the trouble spot in 5 seconds and fixed the leak in about 5 minutes. Granted it is a plug on a new tire and it should have been an interior patch, but I can now drive without being tethered to gas stations. The fee to fix the tire was well worth the lack of wait time. I've now decided that the local guy, with the local reputation to keep up, is the best way to go. Wheel Works is fine and the tires are good. I recommend refusing the tire warranty as it does not work. I would also refuse the alignment and take it somewhere where they will spend more time with it. This is the worst tire service location in the area. They do not stand behind their products and after spending $1509 on tires after 12,009 miles tires are bad and they "offered" to sell me more tired. Manager was completely rude said he couldn't do anything other than sell me new tires. I would not recommend or bring anything to this shop. Contacted company as asked never heard from anyone. Only commented to retain Yelp rating. No interest in actually helping customer. Americas tire store not only gave me a discount but made sure that the tires I bought would last on my vehicle and gave me a warranty. Skip this shop there are a lot of options in walnut creek don't get taken to the cleaners by this shop. read more
