tl;dr: Phil at Morello replaced my catalytic converter incorrectly, and I spent almost an entire stressful year trying to get him to resolve this to no avail, and ultimately discovered he had been lying to me on multiple occasions, and his shop does not have a valid California BAR license. Another shop had to completely re-do the work. I've been going to Morello for small jobs like oil changes for a number of years. In May 2024 my catalytic converter was stolen from my 2006 Honda Accord. I took it to Morello to replace the converter and O2 sensors. He replaced it with an aftermarket converter. Soon after it was installed, my check engine light (CEL) came on, which started a long saga trying to resolve it. Over the course of the following months, I dropped off my car many times. He first replaced the O2 sensors, which did not resolve the problem. Then a few months later, he tried replacing the catalytic converter, which also did not work. Then he spent several months promising that he was working with the BAR to certify my catalytic converter even though the CEL was still on. He was never able to resolve this after several months of asking him for an update. At this point I took the car to another shop for a second opinion (March 2025). They quickly identified that the catalytic converter that was installed was not the correct one for my engine family. I went back to Morello, requesting that he remedy the situation since he never installed the correct converter to begin with. I urged him to install a Honda OEM converter that we could be 100% sure to work, since at this point he had been unable to resolve this issue for 11 months. He promised he would do this. Once he assured me had the Honda catalytic converter in the shop, I dropped off the car on March 20, and picked up the car on March 21. No one was at the shop when I came to pick up the car, I had to get the keys from the gas station owner. However, the CEL was still lit. I also went under the car and discovered that there was no difference in the catalytic converter, it was still the exact same aftermarket catalytic converter. This kicked off another month's worth of poor communication and excuses. I eventually finally arranged to be at the shop to do the work on April 18; Phil once again promised me that he had the Honda OEM converter on hand and that it would be finished that day. Given the poor communication and problems resolving the issue, I decided to stay at the shop to confirm the correct converter was installed, and verify the completion of work. However, Phil refused to come to the shop and work on it while I was at the shop. He required that I leave the car and return at the end of the day. Over the course of the day, it became clear that he had lied to me - he did not have the Honda OEM part on hand. In fact, he arranged mid-day for another aftermarket converter to be delivered (the *exact same model I had on my car*), which I declined to install. Ultimately, I spent 6 hours at the shop, and Phil never showed up. He never gave me any paperwork, despite my requests for it. He was never at the shop when I came to pick up the car (he always had me pick up after hours), so I would call him to request the paperwork be left with the car. He always made promises, but never followed through. In the end, I took the car to another shop for an additional opinion and to re-do the work with a Honda OEM catalytic converter. Their evaluation of the work that was done by Morello was "a butcher job" and that there were multiple problems with the work: "I'll put it this way, I've never seen anyone do it like that before". The welds were done poorly, a flex bracket was missing, and the pipes used were the wrong size. In the end, I needed a new catalytic converter, flex bracket, and entirely new exhaust pipe. One additional comment about communication: A lot of times Phil does not reply to text messages or answer the phone. I often had to try calling multiple times throughout multiple days to get a hold of him. Oftentimes, he would tell me things like "I need to check with {something/someone}, I'll call you back in 15 minutes", but he would never keep his word to call me back, requiring me to continuously call back to try and reach him. I did not appreciate the feeling of micromanaging the project due to his poor communication. By contrast the other shop was able to resolve this in a single day, over 3 short phone calls - one call to schedule the work, one to update me on the diagnosis and the work required, and one final call to inform me of completion. I made a complaint to the Bureau of Automotive Repair, and discovered in the process that his license has been delinquent since 2023. At this point I cannot recommend this shop to anyone. It's clear Phil has not been working in good faith to help me but has lied to me on multiple occasions. read more

Used to come when Phil was here. Apparently this place is under "new management" called on 12/22 asking if they were open 12/26. Set up an appt for oil change 12/26 at 7:30 am. Showed up at 7:30. Place was closed up. By 740 no one showed up I inquired inside the gas station if he knew if they were open or not, he told me they are "sometimes 10 or 15 minutes late" no one showed up and I left by 8 AM. there was another person that came, who was obviously expecting them to be open as well. Phil was very knowledgeable of my vehicle and auto mechanics, and put me at ease. I will be coming back for further auto repairs due to his professionalism and dedication to his company and business. He prides himself on being an outstanding professional in the automobile industry and he definitely deserves this 5-star rating, and recognition. The negative reviews are all true and make sense now. The owner, Phil is extremely rude and disrespectful. I don't know how this shop even stays in business. I purchased a 2012 VW GTI that had a sticker from this shop on the windshield. Since I bought the car at auction and don't have contact from the previous owner, I called Morello and requested for the service records. Phil looked up the records by license plate # and stated that the car has service records from this shop going back several years. When I asked him for details he started to get agitated. He rambled off a few things that were done to the car over the years. I was trying to write everything down as quickly as he read them to me. When I was trying to get mileage, type of work, etc, he started yelling at me that I'm not his customer, and I'm not paying him for his time. He then hung up. Fast forward a few days; I was planning to just drive there and "pay" him for his time. I decided to call first, plus I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe he just had a bad day that day. Nope; same rude and angry Phil (boy am I glad I didn't take the drive there). I stated that I wanted to "pay" him for his time, and all I wanted was to get a copy (without any info from the previous owner, which I didn't care about anyway) of the service records. He then proceeded to tell me that he is "legally" not allowed to do this, even though I didn't want any of the previous owner's information, and again just hung up on me. I followed up with BAR (Burau of Automotive Repair) and they told me that there is no "legal document" that says he can't provide the repair details. They did say it is his choice to provide it or not. So it turns out that Phil is an ignorant, rude, and disrespectful just like everyone says. Stay away from this place! read more

I wouldn't having any auto repairs done at this shop, no one is a licensed mechanic. They completely screwed up my car. And said I can get a refund but they constantly avoid me. The place is a mess. You can't understand anyone there. Don't go there I'm warning you. I don't even trust the gas. My car was there for weeks and he (Phil) the owner just kept adding parts without my consent. I even sat across the street to see if my car was up in the air being worked on and when I called he said he was testing driving it. It was a lie! I basically had to just go on a weekend and take my car back, it was none drivable and when I took it there it was. I've been going here for years I couldn't believe the way I've been treated. I first dropped my Truck off with Phil before the start of COVID, February 2020. It had a suspension issue and it was showing it on the dash. He claimed he had fixed it however that same day that I had picked it up and continue to have the same issues. Phil asked me to return the truck so he can then fix the repair that was originally unsuccessful. He replaced the Air compressor, which I had told him before that I didn't think it was a problem being that the air compressor would still effectively pumped air. He told me my only choice was to pay for a factory compressor because he does not use any other parts besides factory parts. I paid $1500 and I am still having the same problem. After I brought it to him the second time, he then kept it until about August or September. During this time I was extremely patient as he had told me he did not have any mechanics to work on my vehicle because of Covid. However, I then discovered he had many other vehicles were going in and out of the shop while mine was not. I also discovered that he had left my truck in the adjacent parking lot unlocked. A kind citizen had went through my truck and found my registration then looked me up to tell me that my truck was there he thought it was stolen because it wasn't moved and he's been watching it for months parked in the same spot. PHIL DID NOT EVEN HAVE MY TRUCK LOCKED IN THE ADJACENT PARKING LOT DURING THESE MONTHS. As I went to check on the truck I discovered it was unlocked and that the battery was completely dead. By August/September time frame he told me I can come and get my truck it was fixed. I got it to only discover it had the same issues with suspension as the beginning of the year. In addition, my battery kept dying because he said it was due to not being moved during COVID but he did not take care of my battery nor replace it. "That's not my fault it's now a faulty battery," he said. Months go by because I couldn't move it due to needing a new battery and me being a student trying to get licensed in the medical field so I couldn't afford it at the time. Finally I am able to replace the battery and take it back to get it fixed. It is now 2021. Phil says he will get back with me the next day only to find out he went on vacation after he said we would speak the following day. The first week I leave it there he says that he is on vacation, the second week he has my truck he says he is trying to get a part in. He says the part is in and then he says he needs to finish fixing the vehicle. He is unable to get me my vehicle by the end of the second week so I told him I need to go on vacation for a week starting tomorrow. By this time I was already supposed of had my vehicle back multiple times which he fell to come through with. It's now on the 4th week he has had it after saying I would get it back the first I brought it in. He never told me he was going on vacation and he got upset that I was contacting him after I found out, via text when he gave me his number to text. His 4th week having it again, after all the months he already did, he says his mechanic lost the key two weeks ago. Why is it that he knew the key was lost two weeks ago and he is just now trying to order a key for me. He claims that the key was molded the other day however many many locksmith will cut a key for the same day. I know from experience.He told me he is still unsure if my car has been fixed or not. He is the owner. I respectfully had told them that I didn't mean any disrespect but I think that he is treating me very wrong knowing that I am diabetic and have kids 8 and the rest younger. Not to mention a disabled American veteran. When I would call his shop for updates, Different mechanics of his, as well as a man he left in charge while he was on vacation have stated that he does not know what he's doing with his shop. I let him know that they agreed It was ridiculous how he was stringing me along. He called me to complain and say that he doesn't appreciate me talking about his ownership like that and he said I am always bitching and decided to hang up. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL TO CALL A CUSTOMER AND TALK TO ME LIKE THIS. I expressed that this seems like it seems it is is almost grounds for a lawsuit. NEVER have I said I was going to take him to court but he said "take me to court I'm not dealing with your bullshit go ahead and sue me." I told him that I never once said I was going to sue him and I would rather settle this outside of court. He then went on to say come get my vehicle, still not fixed. *Update: I took the Jeep to the dealer last week for a transmission flush. They told me they checked the stored codes. The only code they found was a 'incorrect oil' code. Excellent service! Phil is always friendly, concise, and straight forward about the work they do. I've been going to them for the past four years for oil changes, radiator work, tires, and other repairs. They haven't ever tried to get over on me or talk down to me. They help me understand my car further, how to best keep it in shape, and all at fair prices. The mechanics are excellent and do great work! My grandpa was a mechanic and he approves of their work and deals. I highly suggest their quality service! Not to mention the oil change is so fast and sooooooo perfectly priced! The guy couldn't care less about me waiting and was telling stories. It's obvious they don't need new business. I came here on a rainy day after noticing the tire pressure icon on my dash remained even after pumping up the tires. I don't know the name of either gentleman who assisted me, but both were friendly, knowledgeable, and provided great (complimentary) service. They checked the pressure and pumped all four tires, as well as replaced two of my missing tire caps. One of the back tires had a nail embedded in it, but they didn't seem to suspect a leak. They advised me to check the pressure again in the morning and if it's low, I can bring it back for a patch up for $25. No pun intended, but I didn't feel pressured to replace my tire or take them up on any additional services. They were upfront and helpful, and I couldn't be more appreciative for their great service, especially in this weather. I think I've found my go-to place for any future automotive needs. read more

After driving past this gas and service station for years, I was shocked when I recently discovered that the formerly decrepit, seedy service station had been replaced! With a fresh new coat of paint, a shiny new garage, and a Zen-like fountain in the courtyard, this new station couldn't be more different from it's predecessor. Recently, after learning that my battery could no longer hold a charge, I headed down to Morello Chevron to find a replacement. The manager Phil came out to greet me and personally attended to my car. My battery was replaced and I was on my way after 10 minutes! I even had the pleasure of talking to the managers family while I was waiting. All of this without the pressure and runaround you usually find at most service stations. If you want the usual dirty, dingy, and shady service station, then this is not the place for you. If you want a clean, honest, and family-run station, I would HIGHLY recommend Morello Chevron Tire Service & Repair. I will be going here for all my future gas, service, and propane needs! read more

Took my car in for new brakes. Afterwards the brakes squeaked and had bring the car back. Phil tried to replace them three times but brakes still were squeaking badly. Took the car to Ford only to find the brake pads were installed incorrectly and had to pay $100. Instead of accepting responsibility for a mistake, Phil used the "F" word and tried to tell me it was my fault...? Also doesn't want my business anymore. Phil is the man. Installed brakes, repaired a tire, and did the oil change on my 2013 Corolla I use for Uber. When I brought it in I told him about a noise the car made that no other shops could figure out. He talks fast and rushed me through the overview and said it would be ready in about an hour. I thought he was just another mechanic who didn't listen and didnt really give a s***. I came back to my car feeling and sounding like new. I was so pleasantly surprised. The bill was even more pleasing. Probably saved hundreds going to him. The sound was a bent exhaust piece but other shops had told me "drivetrain this, engine that, gonna need to sell that kidney of yours." Go here and talk to Phil, he knows his stuff! read more

Phil did a full tune up and oil change $1000. before igot out of the parking lot the check engine light came on, so I turned around and asked Phil whats up? Phil checked it and cleared it and said " check back Monday, and I will look for a remedy" called Monday and as soon as he realized it was me, he hung up. same thing five minutes later, once he realized it was my number he just picked up and hung up. not the kind of service I will be seeking out anytime soon. sorry for the errors in my English, I am on my lunch break and don't have a lot of time. been meaning to get this out there sooner.been really busy long story short I brought my truck in there running really rough, it came out stalling and not running when in drive, had to take it to anouther shop and paid $1700 to have it fixed properly.hopefully lasts longer than phils 3k mile fix for 1k$$$ read more

This is a long overdue review...We've been taking our cars here for years and wouldn't go anywhere else. Phil and his team are exactly what you need in a mechanic. They are knowledgeable, efficient, priced fair, but above all honest. We have saved so much money in costly repairs simply because of his honesty. Many times when we have picked our cars up after being repaired, the bill has been lower than what he quoted because it didn't take as long as expected so the labor was lower. We never would have known this and he could have charged the full estimate, but he is very honest. Another example...At one point due to a safety recall we had taken our Honda into the Honda dealership for repairs. When we picked it up they had a list of other things that we should take care of totaling close to $3,000. We took their print out to Phil and he looked at our car and what they were suggesting. To make a long story short, they were double charging for things, suggesting things that weren't necessary, or that didn't need to be done until we had a lot more mileage on the car etc. Phil got all the necessary work done for around $1,000...a third what the dealership was charging. Another time the electronic diagnostic showed a problem that would be quite costly. But Phil was aware of a simple problem that could sometimes cause this error. He looked into it and discovered we just needed a simple fix. Again, he could have charged us for a costly repair, but he had our best interest in mind, and was able to repair our car for much less. When our teenage son was buying his first car he was at Phil's shop constantly asking questions and advice, which Phil happily gave and continues to help him with. I could go on and on with examples, but the bottom line is I highly recommend them! read more

They also charged me to balance them . Within 3 months of less than average driving they were showing metal through the treads . I tried to reason with the pos at the counter to see if we could work something out . His response was , I'm S O.L. This happened over a year.ago and I'm still pissed . I called 2 days ago to find out how much it would be if I brought in 4 rims and tires, dismount the old tires, mount and balance the new ones, and dispose of the old. The guy told me it would be $83. All seemed cool. But, when I called back today to find out how much cheaper without disposal of the old tires (my tires arrive today), the guy told me it was going to be $100 total. When I told him I was quoted $83 the other day, he told me I should have come in the other day! What an .... I can't believe that's how they do business, yet still get good reviews... read more

My family has had 5 cars serviced with Phil and his team. We were regulars and the last time I went to this shop, I had an awful experience. I had an appointment at 9am, and I recognize that I was a few minutes late, but that does not excuse Phil's behavior. When I arrived, I found Phil talking angrily on the phone. I waited patiently for him to finish for over 5 minutes. He approached me with an aggressive and accusatory tone and asked if I had an appointment. I told him yes at 9am. By this time, it was 9:20am and he started yelling, literally yelling, at me saying that he cannot take me because I was 20 minutes late (mind you I waited for over five minutes for him to finish the call). I told him that I was waiting for him to finish the call and he was still yelling at me saying that he has other appointments to get to and he cannot take me. We were having work done on our house and my girlfriend and I both ended up with screws puncturing our tires! I took both cars here (two separate days) and the guys got me in quickly and dropped everything to help. The plug they put in both tires have worked great and it was a quick job. Morello Chevron's repair shop was sold and new manager was rude, insulting, and threatening to me he had me in tears in the parking lot. I called my fiancee so he could hear this over the phone. He was appalled by how the mana ger at Chevron's repair shop was talking to me. My fiancee told him over the phone to knock it off or he would leave work and come deal with him, my fiancee told him I dare you to talk to me like you are talking to her! Then my fiancee left work and when he got to Chevron he said to the guy "you are such a bad-ass and will talk to a woman like that say it to me!" Surprise then the guy was quiet as a church mouse. It is sad that in this day and age woman are verbally abused just because we are smaller and easier to pick on. ( I am embarrassed to say I cried and gave the guy the satisfaction, I was so upset ). I complained to Chevron and I have received no response. I will not support a business that allows their representatives to abuse woman. Moreover, he humilated me and embarrassed me in front of his two male mechanics. Three male mechanics and me. It was a nightmare that continues to upset me when I think about it. Audi's repair estimate was $2500. And I went to Chevron to save $1000. It was traumatic and worse my car now needs a new turbo, catalytic converter, and maybe even drive shaft repair. It will cost $6000 to fix the fix. It was no saving, it was a horrible mistake. He said he knew the engine light was on when I left. I was very suspicious when I left and supposedly all the work was done. But I got back with my fiancee to find my car back in the bay jacked up on the lift. I confronted Phil, I said why did you jack my car up on the lift for No Reason?" He had no response. read more

Responded to an ad in a coupon book for an extremely low price on an oil change for new customers. Shrewd on Phil's part. The man knows his stuff and comes across as a straight-shooter and very trustworthy. I got my giveaway oil change and some other little things done in a couple hours. He didn't mind at all discussing some other issues with my vehicle and how he would go about addressing them. I've reviewed some oil-change shops and they have their value, but why would I go to a place like that when I've now found a guy 10 minutes from work who can play the oil-change game, but offer so much more in terms of honest information and then provide fairly-priced repairs for the complete maintenance on my vehicle?
