I thought this was a wonderful dining experience in a great diner. It was clean, great service and the food was spot on. I had a burger with red pepper, mushroom, and mozzerella. The burger was HUGE. I thought all of the toppings were good. The burger had fantastic flavor (but could have used a little more seasoning). But you could tell is was freshly made, not from frozen. Sad to give this great diner a review of 2 stars but a couple bad services and it takes the food quality right down. The food is hands down some of the best quality diner food around the area however, service the past few times my husband And I dined there have been lackluster. We arrived and waited almost 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order when there was only a few other diners present. The manager had even come over to see if we had been seen yet. Following this, a less then pleasant waitress came over to take our drink order and quickly left before asking if we were ready when we had our menus closed. When we finally got our meals which were good per usual we were never checked on and I had to literally raise my hand for another soda which she brought to another table before realizing it was mine. While we were eating we overheard the waitresses complaining about management and using foul language about their upcoming schedule- inappropriate and unprofessional. It's such a shame because I always have loved this diner since it's been redone but bad service can really leave you never wanting to go back again. read more

Very good coffee and decent food. The server was lost in space though - forgot my rolls, forgot my salad until I was 3/4 done with my meal. But she was nice and I am okay eating salad anytime during the meal. Had the fish and it was a very large portion and well priced. The 7 layer cake is to be avoided as I read in someone's post. 4 inches of sweet frosting and an inch of cake....where are the famous pies I used to find in NJ Diners? I have been going to this excellent diner for many years. Stellar and Kelly make this a real top New Jersey dinner. For the last several years I have been in a nursing nursing home. Whenever I get the chance I have someone bring in lunch from the Whippany Diner. I usually have there fantastic Steak Sandwich's and there Deep Fried Onion Rings which lasts for two meals. Technically, this is the Whippany Diner Restaurant and Seafood Pavillion. I'm not exactly sure how you qualify as a seafood "pavillion" - the only other one I've ever seen was at the world famous NIck's Seafood Pavillion on the York River in Yorktown, Va. It was a major seafood restaurant - albeit with a marvelous throwback atmosphere and a storied history. Sadly it no longer exists. But I've gotten a bit far afield here. This is among the best diner breakfasts I've had in New Jersey. Portion size was fair, not enormous, but it was very promptly served and prepared spot on. Eggs just so, bacon just so. Nice mix of "old school" and "better diner" atmosphere. read more

I went to the Whippany Diner, for a business meeting, over lunch. I was pleasantly surprised. Although it seems small, as you enter, there is plenty of room for all their satisfied customers. I chose their Baby Greens Salad, with an individual can of tuna on top, and it didn't disappoint. I'm trying to watch what I eat, and this certainly was not a compromise. It was delicious! The greens were fresh and crisp, the balsamic dressing was light, and the pieces of freshly made garlic bread were a nice accompaniment. Service was very good. Attentive but never intrusive. Not good experience. Stop by here since my boyfriend and myself were hungry. No body knowledge we were waiting intill my boyfriend said something. We wait good 10 mins or more before even ask if we want drinks which we ignore and stay. The food was good and reasonable. The waitress didn't even stop by to see if we need anything and was to busy socialize. I had to ask her for a refill. She told me she is busy and will get it when she is done. Usually I do tip well but the way we were treated I left less of a tip. I notice the waitress lifted her head to see how much I was going tip. Never again. read more

I stopped here for a bite to eat with my girlfriend and our sleeping son. We were not allowed in the diner despite our son being asleep and in a very compact, lightweight stroller and we did not want to wake him up. Despite trying to speak with the staff, we were told no strollers and no exceptions. Interestingly enough, wheelchairs are permitted, but it begs the question that if they cannot accommodate someone with a stroller, how they would be able to accommodate someone in a wheelchair. I would not recommend this diner to anyone for any reason and certainly will not waste my time or money at such a discriminatory establishment. read more

Solid diner. Waitstaff is really nice. Knocked off a star because the manager was rude. I'd been sitting for 2.5 hours doing work, ordered $20 worth of food so far, was about to order more. Rather than say, "Hey, we have a few people waiting, could I ask you to move to the counter?" he demanded I leave to give up my 2-person booth. Screw him. I would have moved if he'd asked nicely. The Whippany diner does great curly fries (which many diners do not offer), and this must be applauded. They are conveniently located on Rt. 10. I've usually enjoyed their wraps. However, I have a few complaints as well. Their mozzarella sticks are among the worst I've had (stale, cheese not fully melted, must be from a frozen store-bought package). Then the hostess comes by and tells me I have been sitting there for over an hour and asked when my friends will join us. My friend and I found a halfway point to meet for dinner tonight so we chose Whippany Diner. She has a lot of dietary restrictions and frankly I'll eat just about anything. From the moment I walked in I was greeted very warmly by the hostess and then was seated at a booth by a very friendly waiter while I waited for my friend. Long story short the service was unbeatable, the food was absolutely delicious-I had chicken souvlaki for the first time and my friend had spanakopita. I can't imagine that the menu excluded any food type whatsoever, it was very extensive. Our waiter was very entertaining and did not rush us along. Turns out he just started there. I asked the girl taking my order if she could line the styrofoam with tin foil (I think styrofoam is disgusting ) she laughed but when the food got here it had tin foil so I was happy. read more

The chicken gyro platter wasn't up-to the mark. My brother ordered for an California quesadilla and said no meat in it. First time they bot it with chicken. When we intimidated to the waiter over there he changed it. But I don't know, what the hell the chef was thinking . He bought us a new one and this time a portion of it had meat in it. Really a seedy looking place but it doesn't mean the food is bad so we stopped in for brunch. Boy were we surprised at how very bad the place is. My husband's pancakes were ok - very thick - bacon soggy - probably lying around since breakfast. Server had an unwelcoming attitude. My cheese omelette was served lukewarm with the tiniest bit of cheese I've ever seen on a diner omelette in my life. Server was nowhere to be found so I just ate it and of course I didn't get a refill of coffee until I was almost done - oh well - lesson learned. read more

If I could give zero stars to this place I would. I was a "regular" here until today. The owner is rude and outright nasty. I am a single mother with a 4 year old and 18 month old. My son was having a bad day and started crying after we ordered. I tried to console him, but guessing he was hungry. The food came, and the owner approached the table. He told me I need to make my son stop crying. I told him I was trying my best and asked him for suggestions. He said that I should take him to my car. I explained I am a single mother and would be leaving with BOTH of my children. This place is not a family restaurant. I cannot imagine leaving my baby in the car! Called one night around 11pm to order food to pick up - was on my way there, said I would be there with 20 min. Gentleman on phone said no problem we're here! Got there maybe 5 or 10 min. after I said I would be - DINER WAS CLOSED..all lights out, no cars there. Thank goodness I did not pay with my CC over the phone!!! And the food really is not that great, the owner and staff are miserable, and the place is just dirty!!! I go out of my way now to go to Brookside, East Hanover or Paul's.
