Avoid at all costs, witnessed the owner asking a young mother to leave with her daughter because her daughter was singing, mind you the child couldn't have been older than 3. It's very fun inside if you like dated kitsch which I do. But. The food was not particularly good. My sandwich was dry. The pancakes were bland. My wife's Monte cristo was anything but, and was both dry and bland. The fries were just OK. Highlight was my sons waffle with whipped cream strawberries and powdered sugar; the waffle itself was bland but the toppings were good including the strawberries. I ordered my typical diner breakfast - Belgian waffle, scrambled eggs and home fries (asked for shredded hash browns but they do not make them). Let's start with the coffee. It was good. Didn't have anything to it that impressed me or underwhelmed me. It was simply good. The server kept filling it up so the service was great in that aspect. The food itself was average to be honest, but not bad. It would be worth having again if you're in the area and looking for a quick meal. The waffle was the right size but didn't have the heartiness that I enjoy so much. The eggs were cooked fine, not much you can do to impress there. The home fries were good as well but again, I can't say they stand out. Overall, Whippany Diner does its job as a diner. You're not going to be walking away from your meal having realized greatness but you're not going to be dissatisfied either. I think if I were to return, I'd try their Irish eggs Benedict. I have very mixed feelings about this diner. On the plus side, almost everything I've ever had there has been very tasty. I especially love their variety of quesadillas, which I've never seen anywhere else - the spicy beef Philly is my favorite. The wait staff is great also. But, I've seen the owner treat staff poorly on more than one occasion, whoever answers the phone can be kinda rude also, and lately, even though they are open until 10 and the kitchen doesn't close until 9:30, when I call between 9:00 and 9:15 to place an order for pickup, they don't answer the phone. My boyfriend and I had an event to attend in Parsippany, New Jersey with new friends that I made. On our first night, we were in search for a restaurant for dinner and luckily, I did my research and was attracted to Whippany Diner. In my opinion, Whippany Diner was a tad small for a diner. It was a Saturday night and when we arrived, seats were filled and we waited for approximately 5-10 minutes. It was the 5 of us and after a table filled up, we were seated right away. Our server was super friendly and nice. We all ordered different meals and my boyfriend ordered a Chicken Francese over rice, while I ordered the Chef's Special - Tilapia Francese over rice. Garden salad was very refreshing and yummy. No complaints. When the tilapia francese arrived it looked a lot like chicken francese. The portion size was smaller than what I usually get. As I started eating my dish, I was in total bliss! This is because it was my first time having tilapia and oh man, it was light and tender and tasted so perfectly with the sauce. The sauce was very rich and you can really taste the lemon-ness in it. The rice was well-cooked. So guess what? I ended up cleaning out the whole plate which was a FIRST! I was super hungry and the dish was just beyond superb! It was truly the best diner dish I've had so far! Since my meal was a Chef Special, I also got a dessert - Strawberry Ice Cream. Although, service was a little slow and the diner is small -- I really couldn't think of one negative aspect about the restaurant. Everyone is just so friendly here and food quality was up-to-par! I was in the area and picked this place out of convenience. Standard diner fare was decent and prices ok. But yeah, like some of the other reviewers have said, they are rude. It's like being in an upside down world where the restaurant treats customers like they are doing them a favor. Want more water? Better ask nicely. Interrupt your server while she's walking by to take plates away from another table? She'll bark, "give me a minute!" Many years ago my family used to visit this diner and it was incredible. Decided to try it today after so many years and it was not good at all. I tried it this morning, and even though I'm handicapped and have trouble walking, the hostess marched me the entire length of the place and put me at a table no bigger than a picnic cooler. A friendly waitress named Beverly re-seated me two tables over at a vacant 4-top. Then the manager all but ordered me to leave, as he didn't want me to have a bigger table, even though the place at that moment had loads of empty booths and chairs. Had he asked nicely if I'd accommodate him and return to the 2-top, I'd have considered it. Instead, he rudely gave me the bum's rush. Way too many options, which makes sense why the food wasn't very good. It was very BLAND, BLAH, BORING. Not good enough to finish or to take a box home. If the owners narrowed down their menu and focused on one type of food with some fresh ingredients & seasoning, it would be much better. Tried it for the first time ever today. I ordered an Arizona panini. It was supposed to have avocado. It didn't. I ordered the fries well done and they were undercooked. The sandwich was delicious but don't advertise avocado and then not put it on the sandwich. We told the cashier and she confirmed that the sandwich should have had avocado on it but didn't offer to do anything about it. I should have said something when the sandwich arrived. Service is quick so the wait is never long, but be prepared for a short wait at peak times. Servers are fast, friendly and attentive. I was so pleasantly surprised! Went there one weeknight pretty late to get a grilled Salmon salad and was blown away! They salad, fresh cold, crisp and balsamic dressing perfect. The salmon??? These cooks know their stuff! They are cooking the seafood to perfection every time! (I have gone back 4 times for this same salad and have gotten it perfect each time!) Went another night for the broiled seafood combo....again GREAT! So impressed by this diner!
