An old reliable every time I am visiting Katy on a work trip. The menu is broad enough to have something to satisfy any palette--from the picky coworker to the foodie in the group. Service is always friendly whether I am dining alone or happen to pop in without a reservation with 10 other coworkers. I am usually just checking into a nearby hotel after a long travel day, so it is a huge relief that I can always count on Whiskey Cake being open later than most restaurants any day of the week. Walking in and smelling the small batch, locally sourced Whiskey Cake candles, you know you are going to buy dessert! But first, drinks! The Apple Pie Old Fashioned is smooth and easy to sip. I wish the beer selection was a little more robust. However, being from the West, I appreciate Sierra Nevada being on tap. Every entree I have had is satisfying, but the Chickenbirdger is standout that is unique, flavorful sandwich. Now, for dessert! The Whiskey Cake is a must! It is definitely shareable, so just go for it! If you like the smell from the candles when you walk in, then you will love the dessert version. Somehow Upper Room Candle Company perfectly captured the taste of the Whiskey Cake as the scent of the candles that they hand pour locally. Whiskey Cake never disappoints to provide a reliable meal and extra special treat after traveling into Katy for work. Food was good, drinks are really good. I had both an espresso martini and a gin martini and they were good! It was also allergen friendly. We only had to work about a couple dessert dishes with pecans...other than that we get safe to order, which was confirmed by the manager! Ambiance is very nice with an elevated casual atmosphere. Wow, wow, wow! The anniversary dinner was a grand slam this year at Whiskey Cake. I had only been here once before for a business meeting, so I wasn't yelping but remembered the deviled eggs were phenomenal. The current DE in the chef's rotation was BLT, and four days later, we are still talking about them. That was just the appetizer! Both the chicken and waffles and chicken rigatoni pasta were scrumptious. I had the Texas whisky flight, and my wife had a speakeasy, Rita, which we both enjoyed. The waitress was attentive, making the whole experience a great time and a relatively efficient dinner. We grabbed a whisky cake to-go, which we indulged in when we got home from our night out. Whiskey cake has been a favorite happy hour spot for many years but now is the time to write a review. As with most well run chains, there is consistency in appearance and quality from site to site. I really like the spacious dining room with many high top tables and a huge bar. The staff, regardless of location, is well trained on how to maximize your experience. My take is that Whiskey Cake is an excellent spot for happy hour with a large starter/appetizer selection which goes well with a couple of drinks. However, every time I venture beyond that to order Main Entrees, I'm not impressed. The dishes range from "ok" to "good", never great. What draws me back over and over again are the drinks and desserts. You absolutely have to try the whiskey cake on the menu. The last two times we've been here, things have improved. I believe the manager has changed as there is a better flow and friendliness of the staff. The food has been better, but it really depends on what you get still. Burger: my son ordered it medium rare, came well done. Salmon: cook was ok but the portion still very small The chicken sandwich was very good and plentiful. The kids sliders were better bc we asked for cheese, lettuce and tomato on them. I am extremely disappointed and honestly extremely upset by my experience at this restaurant. We came here to celebrate my son's birthday, and while the food itself was not the issue, what happened afterward has been incredibly distressing. I have a 3 month old exclusively breastfed son who has a dairy allergy. Because of his allergy, I cannot consume dairy at all. Before ordering, I specifically asked our waitress, Kim (I believe that was her name) whether the meal I was ordering contained any dairy. I made it very clear that I could not have dairy because of my baby's allergy. I was assured that the meal did not contain dairy, so I trusted that information and ate the meal. The next day, my baby broke out severely on his face, had blood in his stool, and was extremely uncomfortable for the entire day. As a mother, I cannot adequately express how upsetting and frightening it was to see my infant suffering. I immediately began trying to figure out what could have caused this reaction. I called the restaurant and specifically asked whether the Rooster Royale the meal I had ordered contained dairy. The woman who answered put me on hold to check and then came back and confirmed that the meal did, in fact, contain dairy. I was then transferred to a gentleman named Onyx, who asked me the same questions, apologized, and offered to refund my meal. While I appreciate the apology and the offer of a refund, a refund is not the point. The issue is that I specifically disclosed a serious dietary concern related to my infant's health, asked a direct question about whether the food contained dairy, and was given incorrect information. I relied on that information, and my baby became seriously ill afterward. I asked to speak with a manager and was told by Onyx that Taylor Miller the General Manager would contact me by the end of the day on July 26. No one called. It is now nearly the end of July 27, and I still have not received a call. I am extremely disappointed not only that incorrect information was given to me about a known allergen, but also by the complete lack of follow-up afterward. When a customer raises a serious allergy concern involving an infant's health, I would expect the situation to be treated with urgency and genuine concern. Instead, I have been left feeling ignored and dismissed.I am sharing this review because I sincerely hope someone in leadership at this restaurant sees it and takes this situation seriously. I would like someone from the restaurant to contact me directly, not simply to offer a refund, but to provide a meaningful explanation of how this happened, why I was given incorrect information about the ingredients, and what steps will be taken to ensure this does not happen to another family. This experience has completely destroyed my trust in this restaurant. We will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this establishment to anyone especially families dealing with serious food allergies. read more

Our first time here, looking for a place to eat before the movies to celebrate my birthday. We walked by and the delicious aroma brought us in! Salmon was cooked medium to perfection as the Chef recommends it! Friendly service by LaShondria and all the servers who helped tend to us. The ambiance was pleasant in a dark, romantic, yet family friendly cabin-like atmosphere. It was busy with friendly conversations. We didn't see anybody on their phones! Unfortunately, I'll never know how the food tastes at the Whiskey Cake location in Katy, Texas--because of how we were treated. At about 6:15 p.m., our party of four arrived and asked for a table. The hostess asked if we had a reservation; we said no. She then told us that only outdoor seating was available. Keep in mind, it was about 50 degrees in Katy and felt closer to 45. Meanwhile, the restaurant was only about half full. I questioned whether there was really no indoor seating available, but she politely insisted there wasn't. So we left. Out of curiosity, I went online immediately and made a reservation for 6:30 p.m. for four people--indoors. The reservation was instantly confirmed. Strange, right? All I ask is this: if you don't want my business, just say it. For the record, WHISKEY AND CAKE, I don't even like whiskey or cake--but basic honesty and customer service still matter. read more

Great upscale place with definitely 5-star food. It's more of a 4.8 but no option for that number. Grilled veggies are not your typical unsatisfying garbage but delicately place, cooked, and great veggies you will think is a meal in itself. Also ordered the chicken meatballs with hummus and flatbread...now that is art in food from the presentation to the flavors that mix as if Gordon Ramsey orchestrated this dish. Full bar with above top shelf and great wine list. I had the privilege of having Mason as the bartender, and from what I saw, looking around, this place, the food and employees are top notch. You get to pour the cold foam on. The food was ok. The cinnamon roll but good but not like omg I gotta have again. The sauce on it was sweet. The bread was good. The farmers breakfast was good. My husband ate it all. The millionaire bacon was yummy. I did not like the chicken sausage but I'm not big on sausage. The jam was good. I got the red crab Benedict. I was not a fan of it except for the fruit cup. The sauce was okay. It was spicy. The egg was good. The crab fritters - cheesy, crunchy, crab. They weren't my cup a tea. Maybe cuz I'm use to regular crab cakes. Something tastes weird. Kinda tangy. I dunno. There were a lot of flavors and all mixed together. I did not like it. I have mixed emotions about this review. I loved their brussel sprouts and their Mac and Cheese was actually really good also - but the Mac and Cheese was very small for the price. We also tried their Tri Dip sandwich and Hot Chicken but I wasnt a fan of it. What really docks points for me was our server was non existent after we ordered. We were out of water and I had to flag someone down for some. We were a table of 5 sat at a table for 4 so missing silverware and we ended up having to grab one from a table because we asked multiple times and they never brought any. I ordered soup and it didn't come out with everything so I was going to take it off but 30 minutes after our meals arrived the soup did. In my opinion that's ridiculous, soup isn't being made like the others. So overall it was just okay. read more

I've visited this restaurant, in this location twice. Once for brunch and most recently for dinner. Honestly, their brunch didn't blow me away but I wanted to give them another try specifically for dinner. We made a reservation online for a weekend and were seated immediately upon arrival. The employees at the hostess station were super nice and I was greeted upon entry. Our waiter was good. They offered some great recommendations which we took them up on. Dinner was decent, for me at least. The person I was with really enjoyed their meal. They had the pork ribs. They let me taste them and I definitely agree. Somebody in the back definitely knows what they were doing. Lol give them a try on your next visit. I opted for the rigatoni pasta. It was good, but I wasn't necessarily blown away. The chicken was nice and tender. The pasta is super creamy, the sun-dried tomatoes provided a nice balance. It's also a decent portion. What I'm really here to talk about is their desserts. Now I haven't tried the whiskey cake yet but I've heard amazing things about it. Specifically from folks who don't even like desserts so I'll definitely be back to try that. The night I went they had a seasonal strawberry poundcake. I was a little apprehensive as not everybody's pound cake taste, the same, but the waiter convinced me. I took it to go, they packaged everything separately. let me tell you...that poundcake was amazing. It was buttery and fluffy. They make the poundcake and its components in house, which was a gold star for me. Their whipped cream was excellent and provided a nice balance with the fresh strawberries. the strawberries had a nice warmness to them which made the sauce that they came in even better. I took my time eating this over the course of three days because it was just that good lol I'm not sure when this seasonal dessert will leave their menu, but, go try it while it's there! Our party of six dined Saturday evening 12/7. Food was as expected (really good), but the rest of the experience did not meet expectations. The below are listed chronologically. Some are trivial and easy to dismiss, but the ones that cannot be dismissed prompted the list: 1. I was informed by our waiter of a pared down beer list compared to past visits, particularly that the darkest beer on offer was probably Shiner Bock. If this is indeed true, I believe a porter and/or stout would complement your bourbons on hand. 2. I asked for a beer, which our waiter forgot and I reminded him. 3. My beer was served on a coaster with a chewed up piece of gum stuck to its corner. I noticed it at first but didn't think anything of it or even realize what it was. 4. We ordered the butcher's board, which came without any explanation of what was being served to us. 5. We were there from 7:30 - 10:15. There was an appetizer serving dish (brussel sprouts) which was not removed from our table the entire visit. We had dessert and stayed an additional 45 minutes to finish our drinks. The dessert plates/serving dish were never removed, and we were never served water after we finished our second course. 6. During this time, I waited patiently for a floor manager to ask how everything was. No one visited our table. 7. At the end of the evening after saying goodbyes to friends who dined with us, I was able to speak with Gavin at the front of the house and introduced myself. I gave him the coaster with the used gum attached. He was rightly shocked, perhaps so shocked that he did not request my contact info. I also followed up with an email to the store generic email address with no reply. Going out to eat costs a lot. I acknowledge that some places cook and prepare food better than others, but if eating out is going to cost $100-$200 for dinner and drinks at just about any casual/trendy restaurant, I will certainly find a place with service that makes me and my family comfortable. read more

I want to really like the bourbon list here except the servers refuse to write down anything. For example, I ordered everything on the attached list in different flights. But the flights were not correct because the server decided to memorize what I asked for instead of writing it down. If you write something down and you make a mistake, I have no problem with that. But if you make a mistake because you try to memorize things, I do have a problem with them. A single pour of the Pappy 23 is more than anything else on your entire menu. Dropped by for a round 2! The Duck Wings were so tender and flavorful.. for my first time trying Duck I don't think I could've had a better experience. The Brussel Sprouts are borderline addictive, but some of them were a bit crunchy for me. Overall tasty and worth a try. The Hot Hen chicken sandwich blew my mind, I don't know what I was expecting. This thing is huge, pictures do it no justice. It was perfectly fried and really wasn't spicy like I was expecting not that it's a bad thing.
