Just a month ago, Maplewood Public House opened after taking over the space formerly occupied by brewpub Two Hound Red.  I've now seen both businesses, and wow, Maplewood really draws them in here.  For one, Maplewood is a great brewer and one of those brands for which I can say I enjoy every single beer I have tried of theirs.  Their signature beer is their Son of Juice IPA and it's one of my favorites. MPH occupies a big space, has a patio facing their small parking lot, and also open windows in the front which makes the front table area pretty much a patio as well in good weather like we had on this night.  Our party of 3 arrived at 5:30pm on a Wednesday and the patio was already 100% full and the big space inside was about 60% full.  If you don't find a parking spot in their small adjacent lot, and that is likely, free street parking is readily available out front or nearby.  By about 7pm, the place was totally filled.  It can get loud inside also but with the front windows removed it wasn't all that bad, but if they are closed, expect LOUD and boisterous lol if they're busy. As far as food and drink, they have a ton of great brew offerings as well as tip-top great brewpub grub.  Our server was Zoey, and she was friendly, attentive, and competent.  We shared a nice beer battered cheese curd appetizer ($14).  I then had my usual 3 beers and a burger.  I had their juicy black and bleu burger with fries ($22) and both of my colleagues had their smashburger with fries ($19).  I had the following 3 beers, and they were all yummy and delicious: - Peanut Butter Fat Pug Nitro, 5.6% ABV, $7 - Juice Jorts Hazy IPA, 6.0% ABV, $8 - Cuz of Juice West Coast IPA, 6.5% ABV, $8 My colleagues also had 3 brews apiece and amongst them were - Pulaski Pils pilsner, Lounge Lager, Sidewalk Surfer DIPA, Brewer's Handshake (pint of Pulaski Pils with a 1.5 oz shot of Fernet Liquor), and a sampler of a Pulaski Radler (pilsner with blood orange soda). Prices are starting to get elevated, like $22 for a burger, oh well.  The same with beers.  Our outing cost each of us $62 all in, and that's about twice what we used to start at for our brewpub outings a few short years ago lol.  Anyway, it was a delightful catchup session in a chill brewpub and it was worth it, and I look forward to returning.  The flagship Maplewood brewpub in Chicago Logan Square has been on my bookmark list for a long time, but with this actually more convenient location, I guess I can remove it now! read more

Having lived near the original Maplewood location for nearly a decade, we were very interested to try out the new spot in Glen Ellyn. It's a really great space, thoughtfully arranged with low key lighting and a modern, industrial feel. I like how the design echoes the lounge in Avondale, while also being its own thing. Same good to very good beer options here as in the city, as well as an expanded menu that caters to really everyone in your party. We were very happy with the pimento cheese dip, delicious and not as heavy as so many others, but as pescatarians could have chosen from half a dozen things to split. I will echo what a few others have said, namely some of the prices. Yes, some of the prices are pretty high for a brewery - I'm not sure a loaded smash burger should be $28, and most of the sandwiches start at $20. I know the area is pretty affluent, and the downtown area has grown so much in the past 5-10 years, but I could this turning some people away. The service was super friendly, from the hosts to the servers. We had a small mistake or two with a drink order, but overall no complaints. And yes, it is pretty loud in there. Also, it's a brewery. So, I'm not entirely sure what the complaint there is. Could they do some sound deadening? Sure, but it's still a good space with the option of a great patio and a semi-closed off front room. Not sure when I'll be back in Glen Ellyn, but this would absolutely be a stop when I am. read more

My husband and I visited on a Friday for dinner and sat outside. He had a beer (good, as expected) and I had a cocktail - a twist on a margarita made with gin instead of tequila. The cocktail was very good, but quite pricey, and both drinks took a very long time to come out. We had the spinach and artichoke dip appetizer, which was served with soft pretzels (yum) and toasted bread (eh). The dip was tasty, but I would have preferred less bread and something like pita chips or veggies instead. It was pretty filling with so much bread. Overall I wasn't impressed with the patio. We were told we had to use a self serve water station if we wanted water, which was right next to a tub of dirty dishes. It was weird to have to get up from my table to get my own water in a seated table service dinner situation. I also hated the plastic silverware - I had to ask for real utensils, which were conveniently also black like the plastic stuff. I imagine the bussers frequently throw away the real ones since they look just like the plastic version. Why can't we have metal silverware on the patio? My husband had a smash burger, which he liked. I had the chicken sandwich, which was good but nearly impossible to eat. Instead of one piece of chicken, it was several smaller pieces, and they immediately fell all over my plate when I tried to pick the sandwich up. Prices were pretty high for the level of service we received and the food quality. We probably won't be in a hurry to return. read more

We tried Maplewood Public House for the first time tonight and enjoyed a beautiful evening on their outside terrace. My wife enjoyed a refreshing gimlet to start. The draft beer and smashburger were excellent. But the Bitterballen and Deviled Egg appetizers were outstanding! We managed to save room for the strawberry rhubarb cheesecake parfait and were delighted. Our server was friendly and helpful but seemed a little overworked, covering too many tables. He did his best but they could have used another server outside. The only other issue was that the tableware was plastic. Actual silverware would have been nice. Otherwise, a wonderful experience. So excited for Maplewood to open a suburbs location! I recently visited on a Friday and 30 minutes after open, there was a 25 minute wait. This place is popular so I highly recommend making a reservation to avoid a wait or having to sit outside. Their menu offers their beers, their spirits in can and cocktail form, food, and some low/no alcohol options. Their food menu had a good variety of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and entrees. Our group started with a round of drinks. I got a drink that was only listed on their qr menu that was a mix of a Negroni & Cosmo with editable glitter. It was fruity, sweet, and refreshing. They were able to customize the Pink is Punk for my mom to switch the spirit type from gin to vodka. My dad got a beer flight and tried four of their beers. The Son of Juice was a group favorite by far! All four were liked but the least favorite probably was the Fat Pug. We also tried the Hot Spinach and Artichoke Dip which appeared to be prebatched, heated up, and served with sourdough and pretzel breadsticks. A truly delicious smashburger is served plain. And they have that on their menu. Really enjoyed it but the fries were not as hot as they could have been. It was a very busy Saturday night and I was able to snag a seat at the bar and the Cubs were on the TV. Staff work together as a team and were very friendly. I think they just recently opened and they have a nice patio that opens up to the end of the bar I was sitting at. Didn't explore the restaurant but it is nicely decorated. Maplewood Public House has a reputation that proceeds itself. As a new spot in town it seems that EVERYONE is talking about, and going to, it! And for good reason, their food and drinks are great! We had a round of drinks and some bites (pimento cheese, cheese curds) and liked everything! The cheese curds in particular were delicious - a light breading and a tasty sauce, what a winner! The layout is setup well, with the bar area being separated from the dining, and the atmosphere was very lively, which added to the enjoyment of the experience. The only downside are a few corners of the menu... two key items take 30 mins to prepare (bummer) and some of the pricing of items just doesn't add up (it's as if they priced things but then didn't take a step back and look at it as a whole menu)(or I'm just always looking for the arbitrage...). Regardless, it's simply a point of pondering. Time will tell as the hype calms and they settle into a rhythm but so far, so good! I'm a fan and can't wait to come back! read more

I won a gift card to Maplewood at trivia a long time ago. When I saw this suburban location was now open, it gave me a reason to check it out. I had been to their city location previously. Service behind the bar was friendly. It was jam packed on a Saturday afternoon. I tried two of their IPAs that were labeled as hazy ipas. However, I felt that they were more lager tasting. They have a lot of ipas and lager style beers on draft. You may have seen their son of juice or charlatan at a restaurant or tap room. If you prefer other styles, this may not be your spot. They have a large selection of cocktails as well. They have a small parking lot due to patio seating. I didn't try any food on my visit. read more

VERY busy on Saturday night! We went for a 5pm dinner and it was an hour wait. We recommend making a reservation in advance. We loved the brewery vibe and it was great for groups. Kid friendly with indoor and outdoor seating. I think they'll do well in this spot. Our server was very nice and the food was pretty good! Big portions. We especially liked the French fries. The beer was also great! We had a few flights and I can't say there was one I didn't like. We'll be back! Maybe when it's less busy. read more

*Great things: 1. The cutie pie neighborhood. They have a parking lot/nearby parking lots and street parking. 2. The grilled chicken sandwich and smashburger were very good and the fries were great. 3. The vibe is really fun and busy on Saturday night at 7. *Average/Not Great: 1. Maybe it's just that this location is new, but it took just over 65 minutes for our food to arrive after ordering our 4 dishes. The server said it was the kitchen's fault. Suggestion for the restaurant, it would be better if servers tell guests when they're being seated if the kitchen is that far behind so we had the heads up and possibly order sooner. 2. The dumplings and the pasta were good enough/"fine", according to others in our party. 3. For awareness, they don't serve wine or coffee (just hot tea/nitro cold brew). I pretty much only drink wine, but will alternatively order a margarita or tequila soda - however, they don't carry tequila, either. They have canned spritzers but they are "ales" and I don't do those due to the histamines (a personal thing but more options would be great). Will be trying them again in the future after they hopefully work out the wait for the food! read more

We have been to MAPLEWOOD in Chicago and find it thrilling to have it now right in downtown Glen Ellyn. The staff is incredibly hospitable. You'll see an array of great merchandise and Seasonal, Seasonal & Year Round Beers and Spirits for sale. The atmosphere is very comfortable and inviting. There's a private room in the back PERFECT for rehearsal dinners or large family parties. Men get to see a large painted pug mural when visiting the facilities. The bar area is happening! The Wedge Salad is delicious and easily shareable. The Mustard Lemon Half Chicken with grilled asparagus easily serves two. Loved the Maplewood Smash Burger. Super disappointed. We were quickly seated and orders taken but weirdly only 1 dinner out of the 4 was delivered to the table. Waited politely for the other 3 dinners but after a very long time everyone at the table suggested that I go ahead and eat before it went cold. It was already cold. We finally had to stop the waitress and ask where the other dinners were and she just said (not sorry) the kitchen was backed up and they would be served as they came up and changed the subject asking if we wanted another beer. The beer wasn't even comped (??) It was literally another 20 minutes (timed it) before the other dinners were served to our table. I was already done with my meal and just watched my dinner mates eat theirs. I have never experienced anything like this anywhere before. No acknowledgement, no apologies, nothing. The waitress never came around and asked how everything was or if she could get us anything else (no ketchup for the the fries). Not recommending it and not planning to go back anytime soon. read more
