OMG this place is great. The Jet Ski rental guys recommended we go here for lunch. They have a HUGE outdoor seating area; Tiki bar style. Their menu is gigantic with an amazing appetizer selection, and a variety of salads and sandwiches. They had so much to offer it was almost overwhelming. Also the service was great. Well I have been coming to Englewood for years and this place used to be great. We came in for dinner and there were about 4 tables of people. It took the waitress 10 mins to come over and welcome us and get our drink orders. Food was subpar. I ordered grouper sandwich and when it came out it had a "lake" of grease sitting on it and the other side was soggy and wrinkly. I told the waitress I would not eat this and she told me that it's the oil from the fryer but she would take it back and make a new one. Overall this is place should just be called a bar and not serve food. read more

Despite my 2-star rating I do like coming to this establishment when I'm visiting my hometown. It has become a tradition for my friend and I. Mainly, to annoy the owner who likes to glare at us despite the fact that we easily spend $100 each time we visit his establishment. He even had the audacity to ask if we were bothering a group of fellow patrons who, by the way, came over to our table and started up a conversation. Had we ignored the patrons, they would have left way earlier than they did and would not have racked up the huge bill thanks to us. You're welcome, creepy owner guy with the mean scowl... The food is standard bar food. The fried Mac N' Cheese bites are awesome! (Get them with Ranch instead of marinara...who eats Mac N' Cheese bites with marinara? come on!) You won't find any culinary masterpieces here. Drinks and atmosphere is where this place excels. Right on the water, you can sit outside on the deck and enjoy the cool seabreeze and a beautiful view of the intercoastal. There are even docks to pull your boat right up. Drinks-wise I get the Rum Runners. I've dabbled in a few of their other alcohol concoctions but, the Rum Runners are where it's at. There is usually a live band or karaoke going on which, can be entertaining the more the patrons drink... Not a bad place. Just don't expect any fine, waterfront dining at this establishment. read more

12/26/2019: Don't go there, ever!!! t took over 1/2 hr to get waited on, the pop was all carbon and waitress was asked "what was on po boy" she didn't know and disappeared and didn't come back, she put in another order. We were here over 1.5 hours before getting our food. I did go to manager (Dillon) No Resolution and he gave courtesy drinks, cheesy fries dry, no replacement given even though asked, it sitting under heat lamp long time. Very poor food and service. I person never served at all. Walk out!! Never go there!!! read more

Five stars for location & live music. Two stars for food and prices So i will round it out to three stars. While visiting the area for a short vacation we chose white elephant because we wanted the typical beach bar experience. The service was quick and the drinks went down quickly and smoothly. Skip the tasteless but strong margaritas and just stay with the creamy and delicious Pina coladas. The food was way overpriced for portion sizes. I wasn't expecting a michelin star food experience but my 15.00 chicken strips and fries left me craving more food. Our two teenage boys made ramen noodles when we returned back to our beach rental. After a 100.00 tab for four we shouldn't have still been hungry. We liked the live music that started soon after we arrived. It sort of made up for the lackluster meal. Stopped in for my usual, while belly fried clams and brought two friends along. Clams were good, as was the service. Very disappointed w/the cocktail situation though. One of my friends was drinking vodka & soda water (club soda), but apparently there was an issue w/the co2 tank and there was no soda water. As that is her drink, she walked to the circle k to buy some club soda. The huge disappointment is that there was no comp made despite the inconvenience. No discount on the drink or consideration whatsoever. In the end, my fault, next time flounders will be my first choice. read more

Just went to the White Elephant on Sunday after a nice day at the beach.We did not have to wait for a table,hostess was fast and polite,however she did not allow as to sit close to the water.She said because the water front tables are saved for bigger groups.It was kind of a bummer... As we set down I started to listen to the music and it was very different compared to other places-well after a few songs we figured out it was karaoke night!Actually it was great fun to listen and watch some of the singers.I would definitely take my parents out to the White Elephant,just to watch the karaoke. Menu was,ok nothing special.I ordered steamers,it was great.My husband had a burger,it was good too.Food came fast and it was good but nothing super special. The price was ok too. In overall we had a good experience. Restaurant also has a dock so you can pull up there with your boat. It is walking distance from Englewood beach,so it very casual. read more

I'm not sure why this place doesn't have more great reviews! We LOVED the White Elephant! Went there with a medium sized group (7 people and a toddler). They had live music playing that night and they sat us by the band which was pretty cool. It was kinda loud, but awesome atmosphere. I like how a portion of the restaurant is open to the marina. That was really neat and made for a nice view. The food was good. All the fish that we ate was super fresh. We had the fried alligator appetizer and several people ordered the ribs and said that they were very tasty. I had the fried basket which was just awesome. We'll be going back next year when were back on vacation! read more

Stopped by on a Friday night (party of 7). We have been here before, but will not be going back again. We had just been seated (outside) and ended up waiting almost 30 minutes for someone to come over to take our drink order. Once our server arrived, you could tell that he was trying to take care of way too many people at the same time (not his fault). When we finally placed our order we had to wait over an hour for our meals to come out (simple meals). After this, another hour goes by before we had to flag down a different server, and ask if she would please find our server so we could get our check. Ended up waiting another 20 minutes before I ended up going inside to speak with management. This is when things go from bad to worse. An incredibly rude man (supposedly the owner, Pat?) came over to ask what the problem was. We explained everything (and actually had our server standing next to us). After first trying to blame everything on our server (who corrected him) he rudely asked what I wanted? I explained that this was the worst dining experience I have had since moving here 2 years ago, and mentioned that we had previously dined at White Elephant Pub about 6 previous times, and simply wanted him (as management) to please try to make things right. He then yells at me "what do you want, $5 off your bill?". I replied that this is not what I wanted and that i would like him to please try and make things right. He walked away leaving me standing there for another 15 minutes before I was able to get him to come back over. I repeated that $5 off our meal is not what I was looking for, and he walked away again saying "if you are not happy don't come back". Well (Pat?) we will not be coming back. This Floridian beachside bar is a lovely location with stunning views, great service, and rocking food. The food is extremely reasonable and compared to other local eateries, White Elephant really brings home the bacon. My wife though it was ok so I gave it 3 stars. I did not care for it at all. We are a 70 years old couple that just did not seem to fit into the majority of the customers eating here at the time. The crowd was a bit younger and louder than we are. The food was in between. We shared ribs and they were ok however the cole slaw was awful and the garlic bread was a toasted hot dog bun. Potato was fine but corn was terrible. Several reviews talk about the great view but I found it and establishment a little on the dirty side. Not terrible but not nearly as good as Snooks and Beach Road Bistro. The food is much better at Zekes and Howards as well as Leverocks. You can spend your dollars better at other establishments. read more

I went with a friend I was introducing to the Key with my parents... she ordered our drinks from the bartender, later ordered our dinner (splitting a pulled pork sandwich). Meanwhile my parents showed up and I ordered their drinks/dinner with a server. They received their dinner (wings and chicken tenders and fries). Still my friend and I had no dinner. We asked the bartender and she replied that they were out of pulled pork and had no recollection of our order, though we received our drinks. We didn't get charged for the dinner, but the bartender was extremely rude following the situation, server questioned the manager who walked away from me. Never received an answer, apology, explanation, etc. that might have been the worst experience I've had in 5 years on the Key. read more

Met a friend May 1st for drinks and appetizers. When the drinks arrived the waitress spilled my margarita on the table. I immediately moved my chair back to avoid the liquid. Instead of using a towel etc, she used her hand and arm to brush the liquid onto the floor, my feet and dress. When I scolded her for doing so she acted as if I were at fault. When she returned with a 2nd drink she sat it down and stated that a different waiter would take her place. (The 2nd drink clearly had a bug floating in the top of the glass!!) When the young guy arrived I commented that she spilled the drink and now had traded us off to someone else for her error. He was immediately defensive and began addressing me and my friend as 'honey and darling,' in a sarcastic tone while asking us, "what can I do to make your day better." I stated to him the drink had an insect and that I wanted only to have the drink replaced 'again' and for him to leave us alone for a time while we settled in. He continued the condescending tone and continued to address my friend and I as 'darling,' and 'honey.' The wait staff was rude and sarcastic and considering I am old enough to be the parents of both of them i consider it extremely distasteful to be addressed as 'honey, or darling.' Nice location but terrible service. We came in for lunch on our vacation. Hostess who seated us was rude from the beginning. This is no exaggeration ,it took over two hours for our food to arrive and the place wasn't even that busy. The drinks were slow to come also. The manager offered no apologies. The ONLY thing good about this joint was an outdoor patio option. If you had the option of starving to death or eating - starve. Gator bites were rotten and their drinks tastes like dirty dish water. It gave me a sore throat afterwards. We moved tables because the table we were sat at wreaked of vomit and we were not the only customers to ask to leave a certain table. Our waitress was not patient with us and our bill was WAY too much. We left and came to Sandbar Tiki & Grille and wow, life changer. Much better experience. read more

I'm originally from Florida and had been wanting to go into this place literally for years. It's pretty much your typical Florida beach bar although for a Saturday night, I thought that we would see a bigger crowd than we did. The cocktails were good, I tried several and my favorites were probably the "Mud Slide: and the "Manasota Mind Eraser"....not sure if I have that last name right or not, but it's close:) Anyways, that last one I mentioned is strong and will throw you for a loop if you're not used to drinking alcohol very often.
