We were searching for a good place for fresh samosas to bring to a dinner party and decided to try this place. We arrived at around 3:00 PM on a Saturday and there was very busy. It is not a very big place and the lineup out the door. There was about 5 or 6 people in front of us and we waited for about 20 minutes before we were served. Everything seemed very fresh and they were constantly making pakoras and samosas for the orders in front of us. For our order we decided to get 10 mild samosas and 10 hot samosas as planned ($0.80 each), and as a last-minute decision, half a pound or orange jalebi ($6.99/lb.) because they looked pretty good. The samosas were still warm by the time we got home, were very fresh, and not that oily. The spicy samosas were really good and really spicy. I don't think I have had a samosa that spicy before. My brother-in-law who has a high tolerance for spicy food found this was on the extreme side as well (which says a lot). The mild samosas were just as good, with just a little bit of a bite, and preferred by those who were a bit less spice adventurous. The orange jalebi was also very good as they were sweet and sticky and everything else you would expect from this deep-fried treat. Overall, I really liked the samosas, both hot and mild. Updated Review The owners have changed from a Gujarati to Marathi family ownership. The recipes have remained the same, the prices have not. Previous owners flexible with chutney and new ones are not. The samosas, kachoris, pattice have remained the same. The potato wada seemed a bit more spicier, but enjoyed them nevertheless as I enjoy spicy food, rest of the family not so much. Dahi Poori Chaat was made without any sweet chutney, which the kids didn't like. Took home a plastic container of the papdi which costed $5 for a packet (or was it $4?) was way too expensive. A Canadian made (rather GTA) can be gotten for $2. New items such as Biryanis and some curries and kadhi, but yet to taste them. If they added Maharashtrian delicacies (pitla, zunka bhakar, kothmir wadi etc. ) that would perhaps make them unique in GTA The place to go for foods that are typically from the state of Gujarat and some of the foods that are more main stream popular are also available. The most common Gujarati snacks available are Kachori - dried green peas, cooked and spiced with hints of coconut deep fried with batter (5/5), Pattice - stuffed with coconut and variety of different ingredients in a potatoes outer which is deep fried as well (5/5). Then there is Khandvi - a mixture of chickpea flour and yogurt which is cooked, and rolled. The rolls are then tempered with mustard seeds, curry leaves and chillies. (4/5). The Khandvi is too greasy for our taste. And also unlike Kachoris and Pattice are sold by weight. Then there are typical samosas, with spicy and non spicy ones. They are also available in two distinct shapes, the typical that the main stream folks see, which we call them Punjabi Samosas and then there are the flatter ones which sometimes are called Patti samosas, named after the wrap. The spicy ones are spicy, so if you can handle the extra spiciness go for it- they are delicious. There are other items such as bhajias, fafda and patterwale also available but that is for some other day. There are also a variety of sweets - burfis and laddoos available. Do ask for sweet and spicy chutney. Especially the sweet one is the best anywhere west of India The biggest beef I have with them is they charge 0.20 cents per debit card transaction which is not posted and they have a sneaky way of not showing how much they are charging on on debit machines. We had such an unexpectedly poor experience on Diwali. I placed my order several days before Diwali knowing we and White Gold would be busy and we didn't have time to waste. The person who took my phone order was very helpful and helped clarify what items I could order for dietary restrictions. He said I couldn't pay until I arrived because items had to be weighed. He asked for my name and pick up time, which we set for 2-2:30pm. We arrived at 2:30 pm and there was a line. We asked the people in line if they had ordered ahead and they said no. So we went to the door and said we were just picking up our pre order. The man said we had to wait in line. When asked what the point of pre ordering and setting a pick up time was, he replied "to ensure we have the items for you", but we would need to wait in line. After waiting 40minutes we asked for our order. They brought out some stuff and then said we had to wait for them to cook the rest?!? We again asked what the point of pre ordering and setting a pick up time was if the food wasn't going to be ready??Or at least start cooking the food after the first time they told me I had to wait in line 40 minutes earlier?!?! We waited in our car for them to cook the food and bring it out to us. We wasted well over an hour and 15 minutes for food that should have been easily and quickly picked up. Papdi chat-was fine Pav bhaji- bun was Untoasted and unbuttered Khandvi- was bland and not tasty Samosa -was mild but we ordered it that way. I was in the area, hankering for some samosas, and decided to pick up some spicy ones! Samosas were already ready, on trays, not fresh outta the fryer like last time. :( On my last visit, I did ask for spicy, but they weren't ready, and I was in a rush, so I never got them. Comparing the regular vs. the spicy ones, I preferred the regular samosas. Then again, the regular ones were fresh, fresh, FRESH, so that probably made a difference. The spicy ones had a bit of a kick and had mint leaves in the potato filling, probably some turmeric on the wrapping. Samosa was not overly greasy, but good. Via satellite the industrial parks near Dundas and Hwy 403 resemble a featureless grey morass. George Orwell no doubt envisioned these sort of drab units when pondering the future. But unlike 1984, there is White Gold at the end of the dystopian rainbow. Open seven days a week, this Gujarati-run place is a doubleplusgood place to score fried Indian goodies, sweets and snacks. It's a takeout place, so there isn't room to stick around and it's adviseable to call ahead. We placed an order for 30 samosas for $0.50 each, and also picked up a pound of assorted sweets ($8). The samosas here are quite different than the soft, flaky and plump variety I am used to. These are firm, crispy, and uniform in size. You'll probably notice the potato filling is cleanly chopped rather than mashed. In a sense, these samosas are a bit too perfect. Not my favourite, but OK. They fare better with the sweets. Standouts include the almond and cashew mithai (look for the beige diamonds with silver foil on top) and their peda. Their peda are soft-round circles with a cross on top. Brilliant. There are better options for both sweets and samosas in Mississauga, but White Gold is certainly a great choice. Obligatory Title Pun: Worth its weight in GOLD. Menu Readability: There is is a price list above the counter, but you're best to just ask what's up. Need to mention: You could get a decorative box for an extra $2, but the regular ones are shiny enough for me. Found this place randomly based on the previous reviewer. Stopped in around 7pm and was surprised to find them open still. Samosas were large and crispy, with an excellent flavor. Also had 1/2 lb of pakora, also excellent. The tamarand sauce was a bit thicker than I had expected, but went quite well with both. The food is not as good as it was with the previous owners. I stopped in and bought samosas and they were only "okay", whereas I would have travelled miles to have some of the old samosas. I ordered some sweets and when I got my order home (in Toronto), half the sweets were missing. I had a dish (like rolled canneloni - not sure what it is called but made with chick pea flour) and it was tired, the herbs wilted and there was a hair in it! This WAS my one stop samasos shop for years. As an event organizer I've ordered many times with White Gold. Recently I was pleased to see the new management clean up the operation and then they ticked me off. After placing an order a day previous, confirming the order the day of, my order was not ready at the arranged time. That's fine I had a few minutes to wait - after 15 minutes I had to leave to open up for the event. Bothered, I popped in the next day to find out what happened, why wasn't my order ready. To which I was told that I showed up too early, no I did no, I walked in a 5:43. I was told that there's no guarantee it's like when you buy a plane ticket...there's no guarantee your plane will leave on time , to the owner arguing with me and yelling "what do you want me to do" I want you to apologize when you screw up and don't blame the customer. Extremely disappointed to report this. Have been purchasing Samosas etc from this location for a number of years, without any issues. On Saturday August 4,2018 opening time after 11:00 a.m, as usual went in to purchase some savory items. The Server was someone we had not seen earlier, but thought perhaps the woman before had hired new help. The items did look a bit different ( color burnt or smaller in size ), but didn't think too much. Finally, when we purchased everything we realized that sadly, the original owners had sold it off to new owners. I was hoping they would retain the quality, but sadly I will never ever buy from this location. The samosas were stale, we had to throw away the whole batch after we had a stomach upset ( never had this in our several years ). The pakodas were burnt. The kachoris tasted different. The samosas although we bought them first thing in the morning were stale.... I would not recommend this place to anyone. It used to be excellent place with very genuine owners who cared for their product and most importantly their quality. The new owners have to stop playing devotional songs if they don't intend to continue the good product that White Gold always stood for. Don't compromise on quality and taste in quest for making money, I hope this message reaches to you and you improve your quality and don't sell state , harmful food to customers. read more
