Was traveling through Yakima on a long camping trip when my husband found White House Café on Yelp. We had only enough time in Yakima for one restaurant, and White House Cafe didn't disappointing. From the hospitality and decor to the "perfect toast" and "breakfast sweet", we were overjoyed. We came here on a lazy afternoon for a quick lunch and what we found was exactly what we are hoping for! The White House café sits, literally in a small white house on the east side of the business park. There are three dining area, one main one and two ancillary rooms. We have the pleasure of sitting in one of the back rooms and it was very nice. Large windows overlooked the backyard and Gazebo area, and made for a nice intimate setting. For lunch my better half had the chicken salad, which was pretty awesome. It definitely seems to be the thing that they highlight on the menu the most and para with just about everything. It's absolutely worth trying out. I had a turkey cranberry sandwich with a salad, and it too was delicious. The cranberry sauce was just the right amount of sweet and better, and the rest of the sandwich was very good as well. They didn't skimp on toppings which I feel should be the case when you're going to pay 10 bucks for a sandwich. Beverage offerings were nice. They kept my coffee cup full and my wife's Iced Tea very Iced Tea-y! All said and done, this place was a solid four stars. It's absolutely the sort of place that we will be back to and provides a unique and needed atmosphere for dining in the area. The only thing keeping it from five stars is that the offerings are pretty limited, At least for lunch. That said, what they do have is delicious and the setting is unique and memorable. We absolutely loved this place!! We ate outside in the patio/garden area & loved the ambiance. The scrambled eggs & ham were perfect, very fresh fruit, bacon very crisp, & yummy cinnamon roll....with plenty to take extra with us! The inside was decorated so beautifully too, so either inside or out would be a great experience! We actually pulled in with a 42' 5th wheel, which isn't really advisable!! We headed out of town today and decided to hunt up a different part of Yakima, after some spectacularly good meals downtown. Breakfast finds us at the White House, which is in a new part of town across from a hospital. Charm. This place has got charm, in the gardens, the wooden and linoleum floors, and abundant windows. Food. She is a big fan of oatmeal, and while there is a lot of room for variation in the world of oatmeal, the one thing you can do completely wrong is to serve instant oatmeal. No amount of fresh fruit can make up for the atrocity of instant oatmeal. I went with an omelet. Bland, with what appeared to be bagged cheese on it. Not particularly flavorful. The toast was also forgettable. What was not forgettable: powered sugar on an omelet. Dear me. Service was OK, coffee was OK. This was beyond a doubt the poorest breakfast experience if this trip and memorably poor. read more

This place is so cute! As many mention. Before you go do note the menu is limited (a few salad/sandwich options mostly). I would say the quality and taste were good. I enjoyed what was the special at the time, a chicken salad sandwich that was super flavorful with a cranberry sauce and avocado. The sandwich came with a salad that I ordered balsamic dressing with. Was all tasty! We sat outside and the atmosphere is just super quaint and lovely. My only suggestion is to hose down the patio every now and again because ants seem to be attracted to the food that falls to the floor out there. read more

GOD THIS PLACE IS CUTE. I just had to get that out of the way because it is the most noticeable thing about this place. The White House Cafe is apparently part of a bed and breakfast (we didn't get to see that part from the dining area) and it certainly adheres to that aesthetic. Pristine white siding, very cottage-esque decor and furniture, a lovely bench swing in the back patio where you can eat under grape vines and string lights. The whole thing is absurdly picturesque and it doesn't come off kitschy at all. You may find it unnerving when you venture to the bathroom and find yourself being watched by the creepy baby portraits on the wall, though. Consider this your fair warning. This is the perfect place for a light lunch on a spring/summer day. Sit on the back patio. Get some coffee or tea and some chicken salad, pet the house cats (who are fluffy and adorable), and catch up with some friends under the filtered sunshine. The food is generous but light. The menu is kind of small but you should be able to find something you like on it, and most things come with quite a bit of fruit which is nice. Service is pleasant as well. I wouldn't come with a large party as there isn't a TON of seating. Honestly, you aren't going to get blown out of the water with their culinary creativity or anything, but spots with this kind of ambiance and tasty, reasonably-priced food are hard to find, so I'm giving White House Cafe a big thumbs up. read more

She didn't offer another time to come back and they had a few open tables one table that wasn't cleaned but when she went to check she came back with a "reservation" sign. Wow! No other place compares to this little gem! We decided to come here for a friends birthday brunch and we were not disappointed. Our waitress was very attentive and kept refilling our drinks without being prompted. The food was (as usual) phenomenal. I had a perfect quiche, and a very scrumptious salad. What an adorable bed and breakfast. I was sweetly greeted by the hostess and taken to a table. The ambiance is very chill, casual and a great place to bring yourself or have some company. I'm dining for one today, a "Me party" as they stated in the latest Muppet movie. The hostess had given me the menu and gave the morning's specials which were two types of quiche and a baked (roasted) pork tenderloin with eggs, fruit and a giant apple crumb muffin drizzled with caramel sauce and a side of whipped cream. Oh man, my breakfast was to die for! The pork was nice, moist and tender. The eggs were cooked perfectly and the muffin was sooo decadent especially with the caramel drizzle and whipped cream. The fruit was ok, I'm not a fan of honeydew but that is what a normal breakfast fruit cup comes with. Their coffee was just ok, subpar at the most. It wasn't dark enough for me, nor did it have that robust coffee flavor I always look for. It was refillable so I had two cups worth, I had to stay awake while driving after all. If I were to go back to the Gorge for a concert, spend the night and head out early towards Yakima I would come back and have breakfast here. It was so worth it. read more

Their scramble had soo much butter that it was the only thing I tasted and even their sweet dessert, my favorite there, with its cinnamon coffee cake taste was also drowned in the butter. I've never given a 1 Star review and I feel guilty, but I need to be honest here. I feel like I have been had and I'm out $45. We thought we had found a hidden gem when we arrived. We sat on a wonderful patio, ordered 3!sandwiches, and waited. We waited almost an hour before asking to have our food boxed up. I paid $45 bill and waited another 15 minutes. Still no food. Took our food and ate in car. I was still curious about this magical meal that took so long. My turkey/cranberry sandwich appeared to be made from wonder bread and deli turkey (think Oscar Meyer). It's a sandwich I'd make for a class of kids (assembly line style). Sorry to have given a 1-star, but zero stars were not available. read more

My partner, mother and I went here on a sunny, Sunday afternoon in Yakima for a belated Mother's Day brunch. What a charming venue! I grew up in the Yakima Valley and never knew it had such wonderful restaurants. Five stars for the space and location. I thought the layout and decor was well done, providing a country-like home feel and hospitality (the fact that it's an actual house helps). Although we didn't sit outside, the patio was so cute! 3.5-4 stars for the food. They offer a varied selection with some options which rotate depending on what's seasonal. I order a bowl of oatmeal with fresh berries and other fruit. It hit the spot. My eating partners both ordered the omelette, which they seemed to enjoy but their socks remained on (get it?). Coffee was above average and better than expected. I wish I had room to try the mushroom gruyere quiche. Next time! 3.5 stars for the service. Making a reservation was difficult though it seemed like there busyness was exaggerated. Another table without reservations sat down no problem, so I don't understand the hassle/response we got over the phone. Our table had a massive water spill on it and sometimes our water/coffees remained low for extended period of time. However, our waitress was very friendly and sunny. I'll definitely be coming back as this is a nice place in the area. And hopefully I can change my rating from 4 to 5 stars. read more
