Well for starters it's a server who goes by the name Patrick. Very rude for no reason. I called from La fitness next door to order my food. Patrick answered and asked what I'd like I asked for a T-bone steak, he says we don't have that here you gotta come in and order. He than hung up the phone on me. So I called back and asked the guys name and I got the night manager, teresa she asked me to excuse him . So I told her what I wanted and she had it ready when I got there, however the bill did not look right 39.28 for 6 oz steak and hashbrowns and a dollar surcharge for an egg. She thanked me stated she only works there and don't really care she's just ready to go home for the evening. I found that to be so unprofessional and rude on both there end. I promised them both I'd leave a review . And I got a refund . White palace use to be the place I'd eat the most on late nights however not so great know. The food is too expensive for why you get. This place has really gone downhill. It used to be place to get reliably good food and service. Today, 11/24/23, this was not the case. We walked in and sat down. We were ignored. I saw a Hispanic female point at an African American male point emphatically at him and then at our table. Ten minutes later nobody had come to take our order. I got up and asked the cashier if we had done something to offend someone. I was thinking maybe we should have waited to be seated. She told us no and explained that they were busy with takeout orders. Someone came over to take our order. The food was okay. But the service was more begrudging than friendly. On all my other visits I was polite and always left good tips. TodayI did not bother to. We usually eat here before catching the 7 am train to St. Louis. From now on we will catch a later train and eat at Lou Mitchell's where the food is better and the service consistent. read more

White Palace Grill is an old school diner type restaurant that serves very delicious food and great customer service for low prices. We didn't have to wait a long time but once we sat down, it seemed like we were done eating within 15 minutes of ordering. These guys get the job done quickly and will get you in and out. My wife ordered their country fried steak with scrambled eggs and three pancakes. The steak was perfectly fried and covered in a tasty gravy. I ordered their biscuits and gravy. I also ordered a side of sausage with it. I got links and thought I was going to get a patty so although I do enjoy sausage links, I don't like them with biscuits and gravy. The dish however tasted amazing. The biscuits were fresh & fluffy and also covered in their delicious sausage gravy. Both dishes were very tasty and filling. When ever I'm hungry and want prompt service, White Palace Grill will be my go to spot. I wouldn't hesitate coming back. read more

White Palace Grille has deservedly earned the Guy Fieri mark of approval. I've wanted to come here for a while since I drive by it all the time. This place offers a classic diner vibe, including the archetypal booth seating and thick mugs for drip coffee. I got the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy, which also came with cream of chicken soup. Very hearty and comforting meal on a lightly snowy day. The restrooms were clean and the servers were attentive and polite. I didn't see the types of soup offered on the menu so I had to clarify with the server. read more

I had to write a review over one thing that I love. They have actual real grapefruit juice, which one can never get anymore anywhere. I know that's an odd thing to praise but it's just something I began noticing that was really hard to find. Typically one gets this sugary red fake stuff. On to the food. I had one of the egg dishes and it was definitely very good as were all the fixings. This is a very solid diner, one of the best. Nice vibe too. read more

The WPG is the BEST place in Chi Town for breakfast. Service was great and the food was excellent. The chicken fried steak was so good. Gravy was flavorful. This particular 24 hour restaurant puts me in the mind of the Waffle Houses down south. Walked in decor is red & white, this establishment was clean, not many customers which gave us a choice to sit wherever we wanted. Waitress came over quickly greeted us with ice water took our orders, food came out hot and quick. I must say was very tasty. I would recommend the cheeseburger and fries. No, seriously, they have t-shirts on sale advertising the restaurant and I was so delighted I bought a t-shirt* AND a gift card for the couple we just stayed with via Air B&B. This 24-hour dinner is so popular, that there's a sign indicating people shouldn't occupy the booths for more than two hours during certain times, which looked to be their busiest times. I've a feeling this place is frequented by bar-hoppers, stand-up comedians, working musicians, and anyone else who keeps odd hours and needs some nourishment. Speaking of nourishment, there are not one, not two, not even three variations on chicken and waffles, but EIGHT such combinations! I got the C.J.'s, the version that comes with grits, because if you're gonna get carb-y, you might as well go all-in. *WARNING - the t-shirt has that guy from "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" on it, so I haven't worn the t-shirt in public as I find him annoying. read more

Service is quick. Food (Breakfast) has always been consistent and pretty good. Ambiance what more can I say besides it is a diner and it can vary. Late night weekends can be super busy and seating limited. My go to is their skillets or omelets and grits. Now the country fried steak is also good. However the waffles and pancakes look pretty filling if that's your jam. The soups are really good usually 2 options. Coffee is good not Bustelo but it does the job (Lol)! I like strong coffee. I love the hashbrowns also. This place has been around all of my life and I'm over 40 so that's how long I've been enjoying their food. You might have to deal with a few less fortunate individuals outside of the establishment as there's a shelter a few blocks away but nothing to fret about! read more

It is one of the few breakfast places in Chicago where you can request grits instead of hash browns, if you are a southern belle like myself. Oh man had a MONTE CRISCO sandwich that was INSANE. Real ham off the bone and the turkey was as well. The contract between the salty ham and french toast it was on was the BOMB. Called to order a skillet for carry-out and asked if it was gluten free. Spoke with two people and no one had a clue with one girl saying, "what is gluten?" And then going on to explain that nothing on the menu is gluten free and that the skillets all had potato. Potato isn't made of wheat. Friends I was with and I agree: This is IHOP food at Yolk prices. How do they charge me $7.89 for a hamburger (not bad--fries were extra) and $4 for a soda? A SODA? A friend got chicken fried steak with gravy and a plain bagel. They charged $3.89 for a toasted bagel. A cup of diner coffee is almost $4.50. Half an avocado is $3.50. The food is good, but you'll easily spend an absurd $15-$25 because so much is a la carte. read more

I had been by this place many times, but had never tried it. After dining here the first time, I have returned on several occasions. This place was open before I was born, I lived in Chicago for 17 years before I moved, and I visit regularly and have passed this place a dozen time and didn't stop in until last weekend Anyway since covid 19 has plagued Chicago it was masks only and limited seating. I decided to place our orders and eat in the car. I ordered a turkey burger, my significant other ordered a patty melt, and my daughter order pancakes. I always like to get feed back from anyone I'm with so that I can share it with everyone. The food was very good, turkey burger was bigger then any turkey burger I've ever had and it was absolutely delicious, I still don't know how I was able to finish it. Not the best of places but it's decent it's the sister restaurant to Hollywood grill up on Ashland and North avenue. In regards to breakfast again it's decent I've been eating out or dining out too often so I ended up getting three eggs instead of two eggs static reading for scrambled eggs and pork patties and instead of ordering pancakes hash browns and toast I just wanted the fruit option. I've gone to White palace grill before ended it's not disappointing but it's nothing I'm going to get excited about.the good thing about them is that they're open 24 hours so if you are craving for breakfast this is a decent place to go to. You could also order anything outside that's not breakfast or lunch meals next to their desserts which is actually very good for cakes, pie etc. Again decent but nothing great. read more

Know this place has long history, but it doesn't get my vote. Went for breakfast; coffee wasn't robust flavor. Ordered French toast that didn't taste cooked enough. Daughter had eggs, chicken sausage and pancakes which fluffy but nothing special. Other diner had an omelet that had no flavor; tomatoes weren't ripe at all. An old style diner that hasn't kept up with the times in terms of quality food. Can't recommend. read more

Sat at a table for 15 minutes and we were ignored by everyone there except the busboy. Two tables came in after us and had their orders taken promptly. White Palace Grill has apparently been featured all over some food shows as well as tourist guides for the city. I've always passed by this joint since I lived so close-by, but only recently ventured here with a friend for a meal. We've heard that you're best coming here late at night after some libations, and I think they were right. I've had my fair share of diners and White Palace doesn't really scream YESSS to me as a place I'd come back to. We ordered a whole bunch of food for the table, from Jalapeno Poppers and a Vanilla Milkshake to start. The poppers were definitely the best part of our meal, but it is difficult to really mess that one up. I ordered the Country Fried Steak, which comes with an option of either soup or salad, potato or fruit salad, "veggies," and "garlic bread." My country fried steak was very disappointing. While the gravy was good, the actual battered meat was so salty that it almost had a fishy taste to the entire meal. My soup starter was pretty basic, and the "veggies"... omg I was in shock for a good ten seconds when I realized all it was would be canned corn. CORN. Overall, pretty bad meal with a couple of highlights. My friend who ordered the Chicken & Waffles had a much better experience- the scrambled eggs here were good. I just moved to Chicago from Belgium and I love American breakfast! Going to White Palace Grill was a must for me and I'm definitely going back. The food was delicious! We had biscuits and gravy, chicken and waffles and that came with hash brown, eggs and toast. The whole experience there was just amazing, we were sitting at the bar and could look over the kitchen and the restaurant had a very American vibe which I personally really like. 1000000% recommend if you're looking for some real authentic American breakfast. I'll be Back! I loved this diner. They had me immediately as I walked down Canal Street and saw the architecture of the building itself. Then when I entered the door, the ambiance screamed vintage diner and the cooking was true Home-Style. The menu was so vast, I could not decide what to order. There were so many items that either are a favorite breakfast item of mine or one of my featured list here on Yelp. I was tempted by the Chicken and Waffles and The Biscuits and Gravy, but went with a simple Egg Breakfast. I choose two eggs, hash browns with bacon and wheat toast. My eggs were done right, over easy. So many diners over cook "over easy" eggs, but not here. They also made my hash browns crispy and the bacon was crisp, thick cut and wide. My wheat toast was a thick slice making for a perfect foundation for an egg with bacon sandwich. My waitress was friendly, provided service with an early morning smile and made sure my coffee cup was never empty. For me that is a good diner server. I had the tiny booth next to door which was perfect for people watching in the diner and those out on the street where Canal intersects with Roosevelt. No need for my iPad, I was totally entertained.
