Wow, husband and I are still trying to figure out how we missed this place when we came to the…read morebakery a couple of doors away! So I was craving a certain Filipino dish, diniguan. And most of the ones I have tried does not compare to moms cooking. Because of mom's health she no longer cooks.... Husband was so kind listening to my food cravings and doing research, he found this place. First, this place is located in strip mall mostly made of food stops. Secondly and importantly, the parking is no joke! Come early and watch where you park. The parking is not plenty and the area is narrow, making it a challenge to see when pulling in or out of a parking space. When you get out of your car your sensory will be on overload on the aromas that seem to hook you by the nostrils! You walk in the restaurant and you will see the tables most likely all taken. How it works is you walk up to food counter and select what items you want. They offer different platter options. It was a lot going on up the food menu on the wall above the staff. Behind the counter it is well staffed so even though the line may be long it moves pretty quickly. Husband and I decided to go with a two item platter. My platter I choose half and half (rice and noodles) . My two items were chicken adobo and diniguan. We got an order of lumpia too. I found the chicken adobo to be pretty good! The chicken portion was pretty good. With chicken adobo there seems never to be enough of the sauce to saturate the rice. The diniguan to my surprise passed the test! It was tasty and had the right balance of flavors! I saved half to share with mom and she liked just as well. A plus for us is they serve seltzer (soda water)! They do have a self serve water station off to the side. The lumpia was good, but I probably would try one of the skewers next time. I forgot to mention that we had to ask to share a space at a table with another couple as there were no more open tables. They gladly shared. There are not outdoor seating. I would definitely visit this spot again.

Despite the restaurant not being as clean or well-maintained as one might expect, many customers, including myself, keep coming back because the food has traditionally been worth it. However, my last two visits have been disappointing. Since I now live more than an hour away, I don't get to visit often, so it's frustrating to make the drive only to find that some of the dishes I specifically came for--such as kalderetang kambing and sisig--were unavailable both times. What made the experience even more disappointing was the wait. The line was long, the weather was hot and sunny, and yet it barely seemed to move. It felt like the staff were in no hurry despite the number of customers waiting outside. I understand that food service can be busy and challenging, but the pace of service was frustratingly slow. The food is still good, and the portions remain generous, but between the limited availability of popular dishes and the lengthy wait times, my recent visits left me wondering whether the trip was worth it. I hope they can improve their inventory planning and speed of service because the restaurant definitely has the potential to provide a much better customer experience.

The atmosphere was lively and energetic, which added to the overall experience. Service was also prompt and attentive throughout the meal. We started with the Taiwanese Chicken, which was juicy, crispy, and surprisingly not heavy despite being fried. The basil aioli paired perfectly with it and added a really nice freshness. Next came the Hunan Lamb Chops and OMG. These were hands-down my favorite dish of the night. Perfectly tender, packed with flavor, and cooked beautifully. The Coconut Prawns were another banger. Crispy, light, and incredibly delicious. Every bite had great texture without feeling greasy. To finish, we got the Lobster Palabok. While I wouldn't have minded a little more lobster, the dish itself was incredibly flavorful and packed with rich, satisfying flavor. Definitely a memorable way to end the meal. Overall, every dish impressed us, and there wasn't a single miss. Great food, great service, and a fun atmosphere even late into the evening. Can't wait to come back and try more of the menu.

The standouts for me were the chicken, dumplings, noodles, and the fish, which was outstanding. The atmosphere feels elevated without being overly formal, and the whole experience felt thoughtful from start to finish. A great special occasion restaurant in San Diego that I would happily come back to.

Unfortunately I didn't bring my wallet so I had to drop off Theodore and circle back. We asked how long he would be there and we had roughly an hour to return. I hustled home, grabbed my credit card and high-tailed it back! Since it was still morning I only limited myself to just one food order. I was seriously debating between the pork lumpia and Malasadas. Savory always wins! Ordering and paying was easy peazy lemony squeezey. They are rolled and fried fresh when you order them so I didn't mind the wait at all. He gave me a beeper and told me to wait 5 minutes. $15 dollars for 6 long lumpias. On the menu they are described as jumbo, but the are long not wide. I popped into the coffee shop because they had a feature baker pop-up. I sat down only a few minutes and the beeper buzzed. These pipping hot golden deliciousness was handed to me with the box opened for optimum crispness. They smelled so good but I had discipline to wait until I got home and not burn my mouth. The lumpia were sprinkled with Microgreens and showered in fried garlic which was a very nice touch to elevate the lumpia experience. They were served with the classic sweet chili sauce, a generous amount too. I only needed half and I dipped before every bite. They were more reminiscent of long cigars than the lumpia I'm used to, but very yummy! I'll have to try the chicken adobo next time.

Both items were actually pretty salty... I've had these before and I don't remember it being this salty and heavily vinegar based. Either way. The food was pretty good. I think we got there a bit too early as they still needed time to open up shop before they were ready to take orders. Nonetheless they were respectful and were transparent that they'd need time to open up and also to cook the dishes. Since this is in liberty station, it can get pretty loud in here. The seating is also all shared among the other restaurants so finding a table can be tough. It's also near the air strip so if you eat outside expect it to be loud from the planes flying by. Overall, pretty good for a "taste of home" Filipino dish, but my only gripes are the pricing (it's on the pricier side), the saltiness (shout out to the vinegar) and the timing (Filipino time that we all know and love lol).

The pork to rice ratio was nice, but there was a missing element. It needed a bit more fat or some binding agent. R&B FILIPINO CUISINE @ MIRA MESA…read more Parking was super easy since there's parking available right out front, and there were plenty of spots when I came on a Friday evening after work. Just note that they close pretty early, around 5:30 PM on weekdays and 4 PM on weekends, so definitely plan ahead if you're trying to make it there later in the day. The restaurant is located in a busier area with other restaurants and businesses nearby, but once you walk in, it has a really chill and welcoming vibe. They have a bunch of Filipino snacks and items displayed on the side, and the whole place feels very authentic and homey. The setup reminded me a little of places like Chipotle or Panda Express where you move down the line and choose what you want on your plate. I got plain white rice as my base, but you can also get pancit, which are glass noodles with veggies, for a small extra charge depending on the plate size. For my sides, I got the crispy pork sisig and lumpia rolls, which are thin crispy Filipino egg rolls. For two sides and one base, it came out to around $16, and they loaded the plate with so much food that it easily became two meals. My boyfriend got the spicy squid along with a pork and liver dish, and everything was super flavorful. Overall, I'd highly recommend stopping by here if you want authentic Filipino food that feels homemade and comforting. My boyfriend is Filipino and even he said it tasted really good, which definitely says a lot. No one in the kitchen expects you to take a bite of lumpia, or taste a bit of lechon with its shatteringly crisp skin, and have a moment of ecstatic pleasure, where you think to yourself (and say to whoever is nearby), "God-DAMN! That's the best thing I've ever eaten. They expect you to have that reaction at your Tita's house, in her backyard, at a birthday party for someone you're sort of related to. Turo-turo is for sating your appetite with large portions of rich, flavorful food, then going back to work. It's for grabbing a mixed bag of dinner plates and side dishes and desserts, then heading home to your family, where everyone is hungry, that kind of hungry where you talk with your mouth full while you eat, but no one minds, because they're doing the same thing. It's for leftovers - awesome leftovers - that taste as good as they did the first day, maybe better, planned-for leftovers that help keep the kitchen clean and the family full and happy. It's for comfort food, though I can't imagine anyone eating a piled-high meal of pancit and adobo and pinakbet, then pushing back from the table and saying, "You know, I feel really... comfortable." R&B serves all these things, and more, for all of these reasons. And maybe it's not excellent, but it's damned good, and it does the job it's meant to do.
