We sat for several minutes before flagging him down for different menus, and then waited another several minutes before flagging down another person to see who was going to be our server-as we still didn't even have water. She wasn't sure if it was going to be her (Teresae) or someone else... so we went ahead and ordered an appetizer and drink since she was there. About 4 minutes passed when the other person showed up to see if we needed a server. It took several minutes to get his drink which came after the appetizer- artichoke dip with baguettes which were decent. From the time we placed our main order- sandwich and snapper, it took about 26 minutes. The waitress never came back to check on us during that time, and we had to flag down the guy that sat us to get a water refill. The food was decent, but something had an aftertaste (maybe the onion rings fried in tallow?), & the snapper was a little salty. The waitress never followed up to see how the food was or ask if we needed anything else. We finally had to get her attention to get a to go container and our check. Having been a waitress for several years, here's my suggestions: A GM needs to be on the premise, communicate to servers after a table is seated so they know it's their turn, staff needs training on customer protocol/service, staff needs to quit touching their hair, wiping their face/nose (especially the guy as I thought he was going to have a heart attack as much as he sweat) and then serving food/drinks/setting the table (wash your hands!), & if kitchen staff is unhappy about something, don't do it to where people can see them... There were a few other tables that waited just as long as us to get service, and sometimes the two girls switched customers after starting with them. Not impressed- no GM/Mgr. on the premise, service was severely lacking, and food was average. We had a group of 8 adults who had just completed touring 2 of the Painted Churches, in and around Schulenburg. It was every bit at good as some of the cafes I've eaten in major cities (where there is heavy dining competition). Mom and I both ordered their delicious chicken salad sandwich, piled high (but not too thickly) with shredded chicken on perfectly baked, flaky (but not too flaky) croissant bread. The chicken salad was a perfect blend of seasonings with a few cranberries for a little sweetness. Divine! Each sandwich came with a side of crispy/perfect (seemingly handmade) chips. Our tour guide ordered a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich which she seemed to really enjoy as well, complete with perfectly buttered and crisp grilled sourdough bread. The atmosphere was very modern and new yet warm and dotted with beautiful antique pieces (be sure to check out the old buffet across from the bathroom doors, gorgeous!). And this place seemed packed with many locals in their brunch attire to enjoy the great food and great hospitality of the wait staff. Behind the restaurant, they also host a beautiful nursery where you can browse under the trees through their fairly extensive collection of plants (flowering and non flowering - we saw some variations of native flowering plants we've either never seen before or don't see often so my mom purchased a few for her garden!), chat with the very knowledgeable and friendly owner of the nursery, browse the little nursery gift shop full of unique and beautiful items, and even visit with the sweet "shop" kitties (who seem to like to hang out near the nursery gift shop entrance) if you wish. All in all, a very special experience at this gem in Schulenberg. We will definitely make this our number one stop for meals (and to buy more plants) in Schulenberg when we return!

I've encountered multiple different employees and they have all shared the same friendliness. Once when the weather was bad an employee even told me to be safe which I really appreciated. The food is always very fresh and very yummy. I never imagined enjoying a salad place this much. My go to order is a traditional breakfast bowl with red salsa, a cold brew with 1/2 and 1/2 and vanilla, and a chicken cobb salad with feta and ranch instead of the bleu cheese. Honorable mention to their BBQ Ranch salad because it's also really good! One thing I really love about this place is that you can get breakfast, coffee and lunch for less than $12. It's a place I could easily eat most days of the week.

Rolls, good, and butter complimentary. And as we found out olive oil for your rolls is a charge. Otherwise service is good. The noise level has been low on our visits to allow for conversation without being too loud ourselves. The decor is simple but not important for us as long as food is good and reasonably priced. I know we will dine there again.
