Ok I'm just going to leave this right here. When I was a young man a had a chance to spend time in the country working and living with Good People and they treated me with kindness and Love. I always appreciated the time around the dinner table and the wonderful food prepared by a lady whom I considered my second mother. This morning I had a breakfast served to me that brought tears to my eyes as it was prepared in the " country way" and if you don't know what that means then maybe you have missed out. So I will simply say this beautiful Sunday Morning God granted me the opportunity to experience that moment again at this beautiful little place in the country. Fresh Eggs with dark Yellow Yolk and that sprinkle of cracked pepper, pan Sausage pressed on the grill with that crispy edge, pancakes that fill a separate plate, and the creamiest grits that I have ever tasted. Not sure who the angel is in the back who prepared this heaven sent meal to me this morning but she will remain in my prayers. This may not make sense to many but to those who understand, You Know.

Swiss Mushroom Burger and delicious fries

After a great visit to Washington-on-the-Brazos Historical Park we were hot and hungry so I found this spot through Yelp. The place is located in a rural setting, which we enjoy. When you walk in there is a table with the menus. You pick one up and find a place to sit. Orders are done at the counter. After we had a chance to study the menu we then went to place and pay for our food. The iced tea tasted old. I went and got iced water to dilute mine but the others had a hard time drinking theirs, one even went and got a Dr pepper instead. Food came out, about 20 minutes later. So worth the wait. Before I mention the food items the BEST FRENCH FRIES EVER. And that's from everyone at our table, ages 5 to 65. My DH had the Rueben Sandwich which was filled high with corned beef and a very generous portion of sauerkraut. He's eaten quite a few and said this was one of the best. I had the mushroom swiss burger. It was tasty. The others enjoyed their meal, with no complaints. The 5 YO said it was the best macaroni and cheese and his mom agreed. Overall, a good experience and good food. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Only negative for me was there was a cat in the cafe that roamed from table to table and being highly allergic to cats was keeping a close eye on it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

5.18.25 I know I have updated my review in the past 2 years…read morebut I don't see it anywhere. So let's do this. First, they have made the parking lot a little better and it looks like they are building a patio upstairs. Very cool. The inside had more decor and is even cuter than before. Now let's talk food. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and mac & cheese as my side. I never order Mac & cheese but decided to change it up today. The burger was great, and the m&c was good. I was thinking about ordering the mac and cheese with brisket but was not sure if I liked their m&c and I do; so maybe next time I will order it. My hubby ordered a Texas cheesesteak with charro beans. Of course he loved it. It had tons of jalapeños on it. He put a few of them in his charro beans to spicy them up some. Overall all our lunch was great! Now we need to talk about desserts. We ALWAYS order snickerdoodle cookies from here. (These were to go) The cookies are big and fantastic!! They have other flavors but we just love the snickerdoodles. We were going to eat a piece of pie there. I had a hard time deciding on a buttermilk pie, chocolate buttermilk, Oreo pie or key lime. (The other flavors had nuts) I chose the Oreo pie and my hubby ordered a piece of peanut butter pie. Homemade pies are the best! We liked both pies and would definitely order them again. I would also like to say Lauren was the person who rang up our orders and she is just so sweet and polite. She remembered I cannot have tomatoes! I was impressed. (We have not seen her for a while) Our experience today was fantastic. We will definitely drop here again soon.

Cozy restaurant with good service…read more Service and atmosphere: As described above haha. The service was good and staff were friendly. Food and drinks: Good selection of well thought through dishes. They offer surf and turf options. The red snapper was pretty good. The burger was well made and tested good too. Highly recommend chicken wings. They were crunchy and juicy. We didn't try alcoholic beverages but they do offer full selection of different drinks. Pricing: $$ - definitely worth the visit. P.S. the restaurant uses 100% beef tallow for frying!! - six star rating here.

Father's Day- dinner experience. We sat for several minutes before flagging him down for different menus, and then waited another several minutes before flagging down another person to see who was going to be our server-as we still didn't even have water. She wasn't sure if it was going to be her (Teresae) or someone else... so we went ahead and ordered an appetizer and drink since she was there. About 4 minutes passed when the other person showed up to see if we needed a server. It took several minutes to get his drink which came after the appetizer- artichoke dip with baguettes which were decent. From the time we placed our main order- sandwich and snapper, it took about 26 minutes. The waitress never came back to check on us during that time, and we had to flag down the guy that sat us to get a water refill. The food was decent, but something had an aftertaste (maybe the onion rings fried in tallow?), & the snapper was a little salty. The waitress never followed up to see how the food was or ask if we needed anything else. We finally had to get her attention to get a to go container and our check. Having been a waitress for several years, here's my suggestions: A GM needs to be on the premise, communicate to servers after a table is seated so they know it's their turn, staff needs training on customer protocol/service, staff needs to quit touching their hair, wiping their face/nose (especially the guy as I thought he was going to have a heart attack as much as he sweat) and then serving food/drinks/setting the table (wash your hands!), & if kitchen staff is unhappy about something, don't do it to where people can see them... There were a few other tables that waited just as long as us to get service, and sometimes the two girls switched customers after starting with them. Not impressed- no GM/Mgr. on the premise, service was severely lacking, and food was average. This place won't be on my list to come back again any time soon... and then to see the banners in the photo... I had to laugh.

We had a group of 8 adults who had just completed touring 2 of the Painted Churches, in and around Schulenburg. While our tour guide greeted several servers as we entered like old friends, I don't think that was the cause of their friendliness to our group as a whole, I saw them happily greeting everyone and providing excellent service. Our happy server quickly took drink orders, you can tell when a server is confident in her job and knows the routines as she never wrote anything down but when she returned with drinks, the orders were all correct. She then took orders for lunch, we had a variety of offerings from the menu. I decided on the Tzatziki Salad, a nicely presented Greek style salad with grilled chicken breast slices and some tzatziki with pita points. Others around me had the Rueben and the grilled chicken salad and said everything was perfect. I also heard great things about the home made chicken salad and their hamburgers. And if you feel like your garden needs a bit more color, just step into the garden center after lunch and pick out some lovely plants to take home!

I was pleasantly surprised at the absolutely amazing freshness and quality of the food and modern/light atmosphere of this place (a bit unexpected after a few lackluster food experiences in Schulenberg leading up to our lunch here). It was every bit at good as some of the cafes I've eaten in major cities (where there is heavy dining competition). Mom and I both ordered their delicious chicken salad sandwich, piled high (but not too thickly) with shredded chicken on perfectly baked, flaky (but not too flaky) croissant bread. The chicken salad was a perfect blend of seasonings with a few cranberries for a little sweetness. Divine! Each sandwich came with a side of crispy/perfect (seemingly handmade) chips. Our tour guide ordered a gourmet grilled cheese sandwich which she seemed to really enjoy as well, complete with perfectly buttered and crisp grilled sourdough bread. The atmosphere was very modern and new yet warm and dotted with beautiful antique pieces (be sure to check out the old buffet across from the bathroom doors, gorgeous!). And this place seemed packed with many locals in their brunch attire to enjoy the great food and great hospitality of the wait staff. Behind the restaurant, they also host a beautiful nursery where you can browse under the trees through their fairly extensive collection of plants (flowering and non flowering - we saw some variations of native flowering plants we've either never seen before or don't see often so my mom purchased a few for her garden!), chat with the very knowledgeable and friendly owner of the nursery, browse the little nursery gift shop full of unique and beautiful items, and even visit with the sweet "shop" kitties (who seem to like to hang out near the nursery gift shop entrance) if you wish. All in all, a very special experience at this gem in Schulenberg. We will definitely make this our number one stop for meals (and to buy more plants) in Schulenberg when we return!
