We absolutely love taking a Sunday morning drive out to Whitehall Cafe! It's so much more than just a place to grab breakfast. They also have a thrift store and host several events throughout the month, so there's always something going on. One of my favorite things is sitting outside with the chickens, watching the motorcycles and classic cars drive by, and enjoying the beautiful rolling hills and farms surrounding the cafe. If Texas heat isn't your thing, you can absolutely sit inside and enjoy the AC too! We've been several times and have never ordered anything we were disappointed with. One of our go-to favorites is the biscuits and gravy--OMG, get ready to have your mind blown. And the pancakes are literally as big as your head! The last time we went, I actually had to ask what kind of coffee they were serving because it was one of the best cups of coffee I'd had in forever. Would you believe they told me FOLGERS?! I may seriously be switching my coffee at home now. If you leave Whitehall Cafe hungry or unsatisfied, that's your own fault! I drove 2.5 hours just for the experience. The grounds are beautiful and perfect for Spring photography. The café dining area is very small but there are outdoor picnic tables. If you time it right, it would be pretty for a late evening picnic. Soooo many things on the menu to choose from but I chose the Smashburger. I came for the fried bologne sandwich but when I saw the Smashburger, it was what I was craving. Everything is made to order back there in the kitchen so whatever you get is going to be delicious. The 7 oz burger came with bacon, Cheddar, lettuce and tomato, onion, and pickles. I decided to go light by ordering chips instead of fries then cancelled that out by ordering the buttermilk pie for dessert. The pie was great and I would get it again however, someone came in after me and ordered the Key Lime Pie Special and it was lovely. I'm already planning my return. read more

This is my brother's place near him. So finally came out for dinner. Very small and hometown vibe to this restaurant. Out in middle of nowhere and you start to think you on a roadtrip pulling over to check out the small town gem. Food seems fresh from our burgers, shakes, fresh cut fries, even a side of green beans with bacon! The staff is so patient and easy going. Wasn't sure if it was a mom daughter duo but they are great. Ok I'm just going to leave this right here. When I was a young man a had a chance to spend time in the country working and living with Good People and they treated me with kindness and Love. I always appreciated the time around the dinner table and the wonderful food prepared by a lady whom I considered my second mother. This morning I had a breakfast served to me that brought tears to my eyes as it was prepared in the " country way" and if you don't know what that means then maybe you have missed out. So I will simply say this beautiful Sunday Morning God granted me the opportunity to experience that moment again at this beautiful little place in the country. Fresh Eggs with dark Yellow Yolk and that sprinkle of cracked pepper, pan Sausage pressed on the grill with that crispy edge, pancakes that fill a separate plate, and the creamiest grits that I have ever tasted. Not sure who the angel is in the back who prepared this heaven sent meal to me this morning but she will remain in my prayers. After a great visit to Washington-on-the-Brazos Historical Park we were hot and hungry so I found this spot through Yelp. The place is located in a rural setting, which we enjoy. When you walk in there is a table with the menus. You pick one up and find a place to sit. Orders are done at the counter. After we had a chance to study the menu we then went to place and pay for our food. The iced tea tasted old. I went and got iced water to dilute mine but the others had a hard time drinking theirs, one even went and got a Dr pepper instead. Food came out, about 20 minutes later. So worth the wait. Before I mention the food items the BEST FRENCH FRIES EVER. And that's from everyone at our table, ages 5 to 65. My DH had the Rueben Sandwich which was filled high with corned beef and a very generous portion of sauerkraut. He's eaten quite a few and said this was one of the best. I had the mushroom swiss burger. It was tasty. The others enjoyed their meal, with no complaints. The 5 YO said it was the best macaroni and cheese and his mom agreed. Overall, a good experience and good food. Only negative for me was there was a cat in the cafe that roamed from table to table and being highly allergic to cats was keeping a close eye on it. read more

Under new management. They have the best hamburgers around Whitehall. We have also had breakfast there & it was also good. They are friendly (could be a little more personable).
