Course is in decent shape for a county course but the pace of play has been awful lately. I usually play twilight and sick of 5-6 hour rounds I tried booking a 9 AM tee time one day. Low and behold I didn't tee off until 9:45 because it was backed up already, then left after 14 holes because it was on pace for a 6+ hour round and I actually value my time. They really need to focus on speeding up pace of play, getting a marshall, a starter, and preventing people from cutting in at the turn. Even it means not overbooking tee times. There was also a grass range for a bit last fall but that seems to have stopped. read more

Played there on Saturday. The weather was from 78-83. A beautiful day for golf. I enjoy my weekends and coming to golf was just going to enhance it. After we started I immediately noticed that the fairways were not really kept up. Let me clarify: when driving in the golf cart, in the fairways it felt like I was off roading. My clubs were banging together and rattling around the whole time. I did have a cup of coffee when I started, but before the 2nd hole most of it had spilled out. Ok fine I'll just buy something else to drink. However, Missing was the beer/snack cart that most reputable golf courses have on the course. Ok fine I'll go to the club house once we make the turn after the 9th hole. You don't have a ton of time between hole 9 and 10- so I drive over to the vending area and jump in line. I am the 2nd customer in line. Then a person not in uniform comes roaring in yelling about whose cart was this. I replied that it was mine and would be out to move it as soon as I got my drink. He was not willing to budge and insisted I move the cart immediately. Again I repeated that I would move the cart as soon as I was served. I can see my group on the 10th tee box kind of waiting for me. There would not be enough time to move the cart to where the worker told me to and walk back get my drink and then walk back to the 10th tee box. So I held my tongue drove off without a drink and finished my round very thirsty and dizzy from the 4x4 in a golf cart experience. Customer service from the cart police was not customer friendly. If you go make sure you have your drinks packed ready to go because it's like a desert out there with no beer cart. A very bumpy desert read more

This place LOOKS like a nice place to play golf. LOOKS is a key word. Pace of play is absolutely horrendous took me and my partner 4 hours to play through 14 holes. Took my partner another hour to play through the last 4 As I had to cut out early. No Marshall on the course to ensure pace is maintained. Fairways are not actually fairways they are low cut rough very cushy if you get anything under the ball it's not going far at all. Rough is super deep causing the same issues as "fairway". Greens are bumpy and balls were bouncing all over when putting. This course has the potential to be a nice course if the grounds were maintained the way they should be. read more

Decent club with nice chipping area and range. Has 3 different courses. A little confusing to know where to start/tee off if this is your first time here. I'm only giving it a 1 star because the GM was an absolute d*ck. I was playing in a group of two and went on to the Mountain/River course for 18 holes per my 18Birdies app. After our 9th hole the GM (Joseph) came out screaming at us demanding a receipt because we were apparently playing out of order (there was no group ahead or behind us). If you're playing 18 holes and if it's your first time here, make sure you ask which hole to start. I would never come back here again because his attitude was unacceptable for a GM. He made us seem like criminals and really ruined a nice day for our group. It's a shame because this course has potential. read more

Another aerated greens day this past weekend at Whittier. The course was ok. Easy to book via www.Golfnow.com or to call them at the course. The green fees are pretty affordable also ($38 with a cart on golfnow) and they accept 5-somes. Much cheaper than your other courses. As for the course itself, you do kind of get what you pay for. The course is super open so there's a lot of driver action here. Just make sure you yell "FORE" when you errant tee shot goes to the opposite fairway. The club house needs a lot of fixing up and is nothing to write home about. The course consist of 27 holes, 3 9-hole courses....River, Mountain, Pine. All are open courses with Mountain being the shortest of all courses at about 2700-2800 yards. Being pretty affordable and super open, you also get a lot of hackers, beer chuggers and weekend warriors. So be forewarned! The electric carts are super fast and new, score. The course is pretty easy and the staff on the course were mellow and nice. The rough needs to be cut a bit, this is a public city course, not PGA West! read more

Glad it's open for a 9-hole outing on Friday walking with push cart at the Mountain Course. Last time I played here was in February before the health crisis. The new starter set up was actually more straight forward and efficient. Felt good to be outdoors and truly appreciated the open space and fresh air, after months of sheltering in place. Golf's an individual game so keeping social distance wasn't difficult. The course was decently maintained, not crowded, and pace was good. An enjoyable experience. read more

If I could provide zero stars, I would. For starters, they have bad management, how can you have so many golf carts sitting unused but be missing the keys for each cart?! Excuse from staff was that people take the keys home with them. I don't understand how so many keys are missing for at least 20 golf carts, those keys are easily replaceable. My guess the managers are bad at there job, they let the situation of missing keys get so bad that no one can use the golf carts. That is a bad business practice for such a large golf course. read more

Golf course is currently infested with gnats. It was so bad we decided to end our round after 9 holes, and we had to deal with gnats on every hole just to get that far. The course is usually easy to get on to and the prices are decent. But dealing with gnats in your face every swing was just too annoying. Not worth playing there at any price until they do something about the gnat infestation. read more

Overall experience was great including the price. Golf Zing gave me a 1:30 tee time for 4 @ $19 including a cart...YES PLEASE! Can't beat that with a baseball bat. Nice open fairways, great for hackers like me. Game play was smooth no hold ups at that time. Course was in good condition nothing to complain about. Whittier Narrows Golf Course - Even the rainbow couldn't help my shots today... - Golf Near Me - Rosemead, California

Serious golfers, read this: I could summarize my experience as follows: I had not played at Whittier Narrows 18 hole Golf Course in probably 15+ years. It was a dump back then. It's gotten worse. It could be the worst golf course in Southern California right now in January 2019. So one afternoon, with a few hours to kill before dinner, I headed over to Whittier Narrows for 18 holes. I checked in at 2:30 pm and paid the super-twilight walking rate of $13. Let's start off with the pro shop. Shabby Chic is something that is cool, but in the case of the pro shop, we can simply describe it as shabby. It amounts to nothing more than a bunch of overpriced hats and boxes of golf balls sitting on top of Costco folding tables. Even the starter's tee time workstation and cash register was sitting on folding tables. At least give the starter a proper standing height counter to work from. I felt bad for him because he was standing bent over 45 degrees to read his tee time screen. He looked like a back injury waiting to happen. And then there's the condition of the course. The tee boxes are completely beat up. There's no bottles of divot replacement soil, and judging from the wear patterns of the grass, it doesn't look like the tee markers are moved very often. If they moved the tees every day, the grass would have a chance of growing back in. OMG, the fairways were bad. Considering we've had plenty of rain over the past 2 months, the fairways were bare and dried out. If you hit a drive straight down the middle where you would typically find the short grass, you'll find yourself playing out of dirt because there is only patches of grass and weeds. What's out in the fairway has no resemblance to turf. You can also tell this course management never invokes the "Cart Path Only" rule when the course is wet, because there are huge dirt patches and ruts where the carts typically drive off the path onto the fairway. The homeless encampments next to the fence line of the 2nd and 3rd holes isn't exactly a good look. Let's talk about greens. On this particular day, the greens were sanded, yet the greens looked like they hadn't been aerated in a long time. I hit several high spinning iron shots onto the greens, shots that would ordinarily stop dead, but instead they rolled off the green because the green was like cement. I had hit at least 6 greens with shots that should have left ball marks but I couldn't find a single divot. When I tried to repair other people's divots in my putting line, I had a tough time getting my divot tool to penetrate the soil and when I was able to get the tool under the divot and lift, the soil broke into solid pieces of cracked clumps. Usually greens soil is bit crumbly. The soil on the Whittier Narrows greens felt more like clay which leads to the next question, why put sand on rock hard soil? Shouldn't you aerate first? There was a day when Whittier Narrows used to be a good course. It was wide enough for beginners to play without getting stuck behind trees or dealing with water or OB. Good golfers would find it's length challenging. I always look forward to playing the #1 handicap hole (#8), parring or birdying that hole requires 2 well struck long distance shots. If I par the hole, I know I'm playing well and I should be able to card a good round. But now, the 18 hole course at Whittier Narrows is an unmitigated disaster. I've played my last round at Whittier. There are plenty of better golf courses in the area to conquer. read more

Sadly and Honestly, I play this awful golf course every Thursday. Let's start with Miko Yang the God awful starter! It appears that he hates his job and takes it out on me and my nephew each time we ask for a tee time for the next week. If he ever cracked a smile, it certainly has not been in my lifetime. Recently, all bathrooms on the course and at the starters area were closed. There were no signs posted stating this, nor did miko offer this slightly important information when we paid $118.00 (18 holes for two with cart). At the 9 hole turn from River to Pine course, I attempted to drive my cart to the rest room area but the players waiting to tee off on River hole 1 were blocking the way, so I swerved to park by the starters office. Miko comes flying out screaming at me, "What is wrong with you, there is no bathroom, what wrong with you are you crazy?" whether I'm crazy or not is irrelevant, I probably am for playing at this shit hole course! I yelled back, "You have the whole area blocked off you f@#$! So yeah, that was the front 9, on the back we were introduced to the Golf cart ladies, who my nephew surmised were looking for action! Not important to this review, but at least make them good looking! The course in general is in disarray, the fairways are similar to the street conditions in downtown L.A. Lots of pot holes, rodents everywhere and homeless people lurking in the rough on holes 2 and 3 on River, and 6 on Pine. Shopping carts, alongside holes 3 and 4!! What has happened to this course in the 12 years I've been on the East coast? The fairways are terrible and the groundskeeper...let me just tell you, we'll be on the green putting and they'll ride up with their pesticide mobiles and start spraying their crap as we race away to the next hole. I'm getting more pissed off at myself for playing there...I will look to convince my nephew, this isn't worth my hard earn money, time and peace of mind. I love the game of golf...but not so much that I'm going to kick myself in the rear for paying and playing in Hell! Word to the wiser...Miko Yang will make you feel like you are a criminal and the course will confirm that feeling! read more

What a day... golfing with the work gang and then lunch!! We needed a central location for all the employees and Whittier narrows was it. Now, this review is coming from someone that doesn't play golf, doesn't know golf, and honestly.. Don't care to play or know golf. I was just a newby joining everyone out there. We got there and got into groups. We used the "mountain course" for our time of play. It was literally my second time in my life playing golf. After the first I swore that I would never play again, but unfortunately today I had no choice. My criticism is strictly on the golf carts, and my perspective of the field. The golf carts seem to be fairly new. They are smooth and fairly quick. The reverse takes a little while to actually work which was kinda irritatingly. The field is why I gave minus one star. The field seemed good except for a few things: tree trimming while people are playing, leaving trimmings on the floor, and cars passing across the field when your playing. Again, I don't know anything about golf, but business wise, I would think it would be nicest and neatest if they do all this after hours...? Close for a half a day...? Something. The other thing that I didn't like is that the surroundings are all residential and businesses. Like one of the holes (#6??) has food trucks across the way and it's kinda noisy. I figure that gold is a quiet peaceful sport...? But it is what it is. That's why I docked a star. The other thing I didn't like is that it wasn't nice, clean, lush grass, but I guess you can blame that on the 'drought'...? Can I recommend it...? I have no clue! Good municipal golf course for beginners. Great municipal golf course for drinkers. The course itself was slightly better than I expected. Fairways were super wide and the greens were pretty much flat but in good condition. However, the lack of difficulty of the course is like a double-edge sword. You won't lose many balls and your score will be lower, but you'll also encounter tons and tons of beginners. So if you're serious about your golf game and don't like to wait for a group of hacks in front of you, maybe this isn't the course for you. But if you don't have a stick up your ass and just want to play some skins while shotgunning beers with your buddies, this place is spot on. Good times. read more

This course has really poor fairways to the point that you can't tell the difference between it and the rough. I have been a patron for very long time out of sheer convenience and being SO close to LA, this golf course has so much potential to lure so many regular customers out as their home course but the people here just doesn't care enough to make this course decent. The last few times I played, I was stuck for 6+ hours. Literally! The last time I played, my friends and I literally quit after 6 holes because it took us 2.5 hours to get to the 7th hole. Very flat, not that challenging. This is a safe place to play if you're just beginning. Played here once in a best ball tournament and had a great time. Course was in decent shape, and really didn't have any problems. This facility offers a regulation eighteen hole course and nine hole course. The Eighteen Hole Course has open, tree-lined fairways. The greens are well maintained and have some undulation. The course does not have any water, but the length of the course keeps the people coming back. The course is mostly flat with a few hills on the fairways. The Nine Hole Course generally has about the same layout as the Eighteen Hole Course. read more

The worst golf course I have ever played at. Having played all over and accustomed to just about anything. There are no fairways. They are full of dry grass dirt and holes. Having paid 45 dollars to play I had some low expectations but this was ridiculous. When I try to talk to some one I got the cold shoulder. They blame it on the fact that it's a country course and that because of COVID they are running with 20% staff. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONY HERE!!! read more

A pretty mediocre LA City course. Maintenance was lacking on the fairways with lots of brown stuff to be found. The greens were in decent shape, and were of average speed. Pace of play wasn't as bad as I expected on a Saturday morning, but they do allow fivesomes so be careful! The layout was pretty forgiving. Very little trouble off the tees, and very wide fairways. Tougher from the red tees as there is considerable carry on the 4's and 5's, explaining the par 74 for the ladies. Probably worth it if you get a cheap round on line, but there are much better municipal courses if you were to pay full price. read more

The golf course is in relatively good condition in regards to greens. Fairways are patchy and completely unleveled. I understand when it's a challenging course, but when there's potholes or change of levels every 3 to 4 feet it is not necessarily a challenge as opposed to it just being a killer on the knees and your clubs. Fringe is on the higher side so you'd be hard pressed to gauge putting speed if that's what the shot asks for. Other than the reasons I provided it's a decent course if you just needed to get out and do a round. The reason why I gave it a 2 star and not a 3 is because the course houses golfers that lack golf etiquette and decency to call fore if they hit an errant tee shot. Don't expect someone to be courteous and let you through even when they have a 5 some and your are a twosome or single player. read more

Okay, there were some misleading reviews on this course. Golfers here on Yelp need more broad sampling if you gave this place more than a star. If there was a way, I'd give this place less than a star. The layout is as boring as it gets. It's flat and the holes just goes back and forth. Oh yeah, they actually have a 358 yard par 5. Instead of making the course a par 71, they actually have a drivable par 5. The fairways were bumpy to say the least. Bunkers are dirt filled. And the scenery...there isn't one. There's RC planes making that annoying sound mixed in with barrage of shotgun blasts topped with low flying real jets that could swallow up one of those mosquito RC planes. The pace is slow. 5 hour seems normal here. A tangent: group of older Koreans playing in front of us were playing off of the blue tees. There drives were never longer than 200 yards. Get a clue! Blue measures close to 7000 yards. If your handicap is above 10, you should be playing the white tees. Better yet, find some gold tees. That's why the course plays to 5 hours! Get real! This was my 190th course and I keep track of all the courses I've played. This course will rank in my bottom 5 percent. In fact, I would not miss this course if they plowed over and planted sage brush. read more

Since my buddies and i always hang out for some food and beer after golfing , i cannot resist and point out that the food they serve are ridiculously small servings and extremely pricey for the serving size!! Power Babes took over Whittier Narrows Golf Course on Thursday! Our networking group can get a little rowdy, which is to be expected with a large group of roughly 25 women. Bobby Estareja hosted us for a delicious luncheon in their banquet room. Afterwards, we headed out to the driving range. His golfing instruction was very thorough, and he was a good sport through all our hooting and hollering. I will recommend Bobby and the Whittier Narrows Golf Course. I'll up my rating to 3.5 stars. Fairways are in pretty good shape this week - very green and few bare spots. Unfortunately, the greens are pretty lush, which mean that they are pretty slow. They need to be rolled a little to add some speed. Course players are just like I remembered - very slow and lacking courtesy. Group behind us hit into us several times. Thankfully, they were horrible hacks, and only rolled up on us a couple of times. This course is challenging, due to the length and plenty of bunkers. This review is for the the golf instruction I received on the course. I'm a beginner golfer and needed to take golf lessons to prep for a couple of tournaments I had coming up for work. I had taken a lesson before at a different course and didn't feel like I learned much, so I tried a lesson here. I'm so glad that I tried the golf lessons here!! Bobby Estareja was my instructor and he is really good! He stays focused on me for the entirety of the lesson, which makes me feel like he's invested in helping me improve and learn. He is very patient and always stays positive and motivates me despite how many self deprecating comments I make about myself when I miss, which is still pretty often :P. Aside from genuinely caring, he's very good at teaching. He's not one of those self proclaimed pro golfers that can do, but can't teach. He puts things in layman's terms so nongolfers, like myself, can understand. He customizes the lessons to work on all different parts of the game: some of them were done at the driving range, some on the practice putting area and some even on the course! I started the lessons with the intent of only taking 2 to prep for my tournaments. After the first lesson, I learned so much that I decided to keep going. My coworkers even said that my golf game improved a lot between the two tournaments I participated in. Now that's just proof that the lessons are working!! I think that the best thing about my lessons with Bobby is that he helped me discover a sport I actually really enjoy! If an instructor can do that.. he's a keeper! read more

This golf course isn't perfect, no golf course really is. In fact this course is on the smaller side, I have been playing here for 8 months now and it is true that some of the holes on the mountain course are a little rough even in the fairway but considering the size of the course, it is a pretty nice course, with the minimal staff in amazed that they keep the course looking as good as it does. From what I can see recently they have been going through some renovations on the pine and river course. When talking about the people who play here you can get a wide range from good to poor players, but that is every public golf course, if you are on the driving range you will see that there are people who aren't the best and the game but if you go to the Alhambra course you will see the same thing. On the course it is true that some players can overestimate their abilities, but they are just out their to have a good time just like you... I hope. The people for the most part are polite, but if there is one fault that some of the players have it is that they don't fix divots. OMG this is like one of my pet peeves if you want to play this course a divot fixer. The staff at Whittier narrows are all pretty nice and polite. If you are a regular you start to have really nice conversations with them, and the staff if you go enough will learn your name and everything! They do a great job of picking up balls and keeping their ball machine in check. They also have a great network of carts that seems to be endless and they are always clean, they also use electric carts instead of the glass ones like at the Eton canyon course. They also groom their two putting greens and pitching areas really well. The PGA professional who works at the course is also a really great guy. His name is Barrett and he is a great instructor and coach, I would know I'm one of his students I've been working with Barrett for about a month now and he is a great instructor, he teaches the young and old, plus everyone in between. He also is very active at the course, he doesn't just teach, when he has down time he likes to expand his network of golfers and students so that he can help everyone improve. If this was a review of just Barrett it would get 5 stars. The range is a decent size, it is a mat range, but for a short while it was a grass range, before Cali was hit with the drought. The range has benches for resting and a distance board so you know roughly how far you are hitting your balls, one thing that I would change is the distance of the ball machine, it is kind of far, but that is just a minor issue. The range is 300 yards long and it is very wide, there is a section that is reserved for the PGA learning center which is really cool. The putting greens are great and the fact that they have two of them makes it even better. They always change the holes almost everyday, I've seen them do it and when they're done it is like that previous home never existed. The pitching area is nice... it is kind of small with only 4 flags to pitch to and the area around it isn't the greatest, one thing is to always make sure you know how to control your pitching distance or you might end up in the parking lot. The pro shop is pretty small it doesn't have the widest selection of golf gadgets and what not... lets just say it ain't no golfsmith but if you somehow forgot your clubs and everything they can set you up if you have the money to buy a new set,new balls, and some tees. They also sell hats from titleist to nike, they also sell gloves and shoes. If you are looking for wedges or putters they have that too not to mention some taylormade drivers. They have a huge range of balls, with some brands I had no idea existed like the noodle brand. Over all this pro shop could be bigger but it gets the job done. The diner here is great it can serve huge parties and the food their is great. If you and a group of friends or co-workers want to play some lunch time golf you can play 18 then immediately have a snack or meal right after. The service their is quick and the workers there are great. Over all this golf course is no Augusta but it is a great place for you to play no matter if you are beginning or a low handicap player you will have a good time at Whittier narrows... This is a muni. So the four stars are for a muni course as it rates against others like Encino, Rancho, Wilson etc. Just played here for first time today. The fairways and greens are nice. Fairways if anything are too fluffy with no roll. Greens are slow and straight with very little undulation. The layout is wide open. You can hit driveer on every par 4 which is fun. The trees are mature but generally are not too abundant like say Rancho Park. I would compare this place to being like Woodley Lakes. But the greens here are more difficult because they are raised and generally much smaller. So if you are looking to get your game in shape this is a fun track. I went around today in about four hours which was a welcome change of pace compared to LA City course which usually take five or more hours. read more

Driver. 50 yards to the right. Still on the fairway. Oh yeah, I like this course. If you typically lose at least a dozen golf balls each time you play a round, then this is the course for you. No water hazards. No houses. No black holes. No renegade ostriches or kangaroo ninjas that steal your ball when you're not looking. Trust me, they exist. And before you hit up the back nine, be sure to get yourself a hot dog with grilled onions. Be sure to add the chef's special blend of pepper, jalapeno and sour cream (instead of mayo).
