I really want to like this place since they have grass fed beef and gluten free buns, but every time I go, the food is just boring. I'd love for them to work on their approach to seasoning the meat better. And perhaps change the grease more often because I've yet to get properly cooked French fries here. It's not a huge indoor store, and this was the first time I'd been there but I wonder if they just set it up so they could stay in business during the pandemic. The burgers are high-quality, tasty, the bun is amazing - it just feels fresh. I have come here off an on - even craving the burger when pregnant with both my children! My husband ordered the morning glory burger and I ordered just a regular burger and everything came out perfectly. It's located inside a really old convenient store and the inside looks like a hodge podge of random gas station finds and they decided to add a restaurant inside. The inside was poorly ventilated. Thin, well-done, unseasoned and chewy beef patty on a cold bun, cooked and served by a guy in a dirty t-shirt and shorts... yeah, I'll pass next time. Broken and black old potato fries that became soggy in 2 minutes after frying - no thanks. 2 basic burgers and two orders of fries (they are pretty small) cost us over $40. There are fantastic burgers in town that you can get for half that in a pretty nice, clean restaurant. The other guy at the counter was nice. This place is located off S. Lamar. I would label it a "dive" place to eat. They are allowing customers to be seated inside. They have a handful of tables, it's kind of like a convenience store built into a hamburger joint. Everything was pretty well worn. Very unusual. They had several boxes of peaches and I wish now I had asked if any of them were for sale. They had a sign up that they carried local organic tomatoes and zucchini and a couple other veggies that now escape me. Back to the reason we chose to come here -for carry out burgers to take home. There were at least a half a dozen other hamburger places with-in a few block radius. I was able to place our order through yelp and GrubHub. Unfortunately for us there was a large group of women maybe six at a table that were awaiting their food , as well as a couple other orders before ours so we did have a little bit of a wait to get our food. The employees were very nice, friendly and cheerful. It seemed as though any of them could handle cooking, cleaning, cash cash register, etc. They were still wearing masks although there was not a sign outside mandating them. I wore mine too. So my dining companion was my oldest granddaughter whom I had taken for an orthodontist appointment earlier and who was going to be going to work at 4 PM, so I thought it would be nice to feed her. She ordered a double cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, picle, ketchup and mayonnaise. No onion. And a small side of mixed sweet potato and regular potato french fries. I ordered a single cheeseburger and the same small fry side. We didn't eat until we got back to her apartment. The fries were OK. I actually prefer mine more crisp but my dining partner actually liked them the way they were so to each his own. I will say they were seasoned to perfection. They also appeared to be hand cut. I watched them cook some burgers on the flat top which always excites me because I think most meat cooks up to perfection and with more flavor, on flat tops. They put our individual orders in brown paper lunch bags and we got on her way to her apartment. She is someone who wants everything exactly the way she thinks it should be, so she was not happy when she found that they put the veggies on the bottom under both of the burgers. I thought this was pretty funny. Anyway she put it back in the order she prefers. Her double burger looked huge. It was evident that the hamburger patties were hand formed. They were thicker than preformed patties and covered the bun well. They had half a dozen cheese choices so her burgers were topped with pepper jack. My burger which was a single with cheddar cheese and everything but lettuce was delicious, Nice and juicy and well seasoned. What I love about burgers cooked on a flat top is it seems to seal all the juices inside. Although the juice didn't drip down through my fingers I could taste it in every bite. I was definitely pleasantly surprised by this hidden gem. If it was not for yelp and some Googling of best places to eat in Austin during a Whole30, I would have never thought hidden inside this convenience store would be such a quality burger. The food is very good. I got the Cross Fit, but instead of a burger, I got it with grilled chicken. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the texture of ground beef. The chicken was juicy and I love that instead of the standard lettuce wrap option, two juicy portobello caps were used as the buns. So so good. My sandwich was dripping with juices and flavor. I was also able to enjoy a delicious meal out without ruining my Whole30. My son got the sliders kids meal and I would say he enjoyed it. However, he is 14 months and can't talk, so the fact that his dad stole one of his sliders and kept eating his fries indicates to me the burger is very yummy. I will admit that the fries smelled so good and I want to go back post Whole30 to try the fries. My only suggestion would be to have a menu with the descriptions or maybe I missed it. If I hadn't looked up the food menu online, I would not know what the options were because they have cute names like The Cross Fit written on a blackboard above the cash register where you order. However there is no description of what the burgers and sandwiches are so unless you order online or frequent there, you may not know what to get. Another side note: we didn't get the Gatorade that came with the kids meal. Just a general tip in this To-Go lifestyle, make sure you check your order to make sure you got everything! Okay so I'm out of town and heard this place had great burgers. I checked it out during COVID-19 and they only took to go orders which was great. The location is off a very busy road so it's pretty hard to miss. I got a classic burger with all the fixings and a small fry. My meal included a can of coke because they weren't allowed to serve fountain drinks. The beef is 100% grass fed, delicious, lean and extremely flavorful. If you love the flavor of beef then this is the place for you! The burgers are not grilled but they are cooked on a flat top grill which is fine. Flavor was still good. The buns are king Hawaiian buns which are sweet. It was nice but I prefer a regular sesame or plain bun. The fries are homemade and they are decent. I really liked the portion size of the meal because I didnt feel like it was too much food for what you are paying for because you pay for quality meat and the price reflects it as well. The cashier was really friendly and let me know that the burger would just be a few minutes. This place is a convenience store and a burger restaurant - there are tables inside to eat your food there (in the A/C - worth noting for the summer time). A few minutes after I got there, my Fit Cross burger and sweet potato fires were ready. This burger was delicious! Juicy, messy, cheesy - it was amazing. And the sweet potato fries were very good, as well. This is a good place to keep in mind in the new year, as we try to eat healthier and want to consume less bread.
