Mila, came out shortly after from the kitchen and I was able to converse with her in Russian and English. Both shared their meet story and how they decided to start this adorable business, May 2015. The story feels better heard from them directly. I set down to look at their abundant menu options. Meals here require patience. Many dishes are prepared from scratch. Part of Russian Hospitality is to welcome you in to their home, sit you down, spike up a genuine conversation and make a delicious home cooked meal. I ordered mine with mixed berries, white powder and condensed milk. Something about taking each bite dipped in condensed milk with all the toppings makes your taste buds dance. Generous portions. #24 Smoked Salmon Crepe - $16 Tvorog Cheese, Salmon, Cherry Tomato, Green Onion, Salted Dill. As someone that adores a good salmon dish, clean flavors and a proper texture contrast -- delicate fish against warm crepe. The pairing works and generous portion. Siberian Pelmeni Bowl (24ct) - $17 Handmade dumplings in butter with your choice of dipping sauce. True Russian Hospitality - dish ware presentation along with the cuisine. The three-layered, brown color bowl looked presentable. Pelmeni looked freshly made and the steam coming from the bowl would make Gordon Ramsay smile. A slightly meatier filling would improve the ratio, but the flavor remains familiar and nostalgic. Cheburek - $9.50 Handmade Fried Meat Pie filled with Ground Beef & Onion. Served with your choice of dipping sauce. Good presentation and the taste was a good pairing combination with sour cream. Exterior texture was crispy, while the interior was soft. A fuller filling would strengthen it. OVERALL EXPERIENCE: While photographing the dishes, some cooled before I could eat them. Mila noticed and worried -- a small moment can be explained. The good: cute decor (there's a display case full of tea sets), and food flavors were fine (but nothing to write home about). The bad: My first big gripe is the water. There's an expectation that in the US, tap water is free. Places that only have bottles typically will say, "We have bottled water; is that okay?" if you order water. This place didn't. They just brought out bottles. They're charging $2 each. Portion sizes are very small for what you're paying, and for the actual cost of the ingredients. My crepe was essentially a light snack for $14. Family friendliness is mixed. They're welcoming of kids, but there is no kids menu, and no changing table in the restroom. There's also only one customer restroom, so you're screwed if someone has to be in there for a while. The weird: The music did not match the theme or ambiance. Clearly they are trying to appeal to their customer base's favorite music by playing country hits, which felt a little out-of place. Like many other business in Old Town Tomball, this restaurant is in a converted house. You have to park in back but walk around to the front. So.... My husband requested beef stroganoff for his birthday dinner and it seems only one place in town has it! I was intrigued by the other things on the menu but ended up playing it safe with the goulash in addition to the aforementioned stroganoff. Yum! After attending a weekend wedding in The Woodlands with some friends of ours, we joined them for Sunday brunch at Wholly Crepe upon one of their friend's recommendations as my wife enjoys crepes. The restaurant was small (perhaps 4 or five tables and another table in the back with a larger table) but cute and my wife enjoyed her crepe. Sadly, I didn't enjoy the experience at all. The staff didn't greet us and felt cold and unwelcoming. My wife explained to me that is the Russian culture, and I explained we are in Texas. One of the staff scolded me and my friend when we asked where the restroom was. I'm very respectful of how restaurants price their menu items, but I don't like unreasonable add-ons and hidden fees. Coffee is $3.50 per cup, and the menu lists organic and price per cup (no refills), then adds an additional $1.00 for regular cream (1/2 and 1/2). If you ask for water for the table, they'll bring each guest a cold bargain brand bottled water and charge an additional $2.00 each. They messed up my order and when I pointed it out they didn't apologize or offer to fix it. We won't be back. read more

A friend and I traveled over an hour to try Wholly Crepe Russian Bistro. It was worth the trip! The owner, Mila, was charming and gracious. Formerly from Siberia, she shared her family story and convinced us to try borscht soup. My friend strongly dislikes beets but this soup was not a cold beet soup (that tastes like dirt). Wow! It was surprisingly delicious and bought a quart to take home. We devoured the cabbage rolls with potatoes & bread (to sop up the light tomato sauce). Have you tried Russian pierogies? The varenikis were filled with onion, cheese and a dollop of sour cream made them super addictive. Chocolate cherry blini with homemade whipped cream made it a lunch to remember. I started with a bowl of Borscht though. I am of Polish heritage, and this is very different from our family version. Still good, savory and a soup I would order again. We also got a crepe that my daughter was very happy with. Oh, and vereneke is a Russian version of a parogi. Similar but different. I can only assume they are good because my daughter did not share. I am always on the hunt for something different, I seek out anything that is out of the norm and today I thought I would try this place, wholly crepe. I thought I would come in here and have a crepe but after looking at the menu I decided to go even further off the path and I ordered stuffed peppers. Now I'm from Chicago so food like this is very common to me as far as eating it, but not very common is far as finding it. Nobody would want to try it if I made it at home so this is my only opportunity for yummy stuff like this. I'm super excited to see lots of different things on the menu along with the stuffed peppers. I almost went with the stuffed cabbage rolls, next time. There's actually several things I would try, so hopefully the peppers will make me want to return. This is a Russian restaurant, but I sincerely hope that the locals here in Tomball aren't treating this place any different than any other local business that needs and deserves our support. read more

My bestie took me to this Tomball market town and there we stumbled upon Wholly Crepes! Looked interesting from the outside and I hadn't had breakfast or lunch that day, so I was famished and decided to give them a try. Keep in mind that it's March in Houston and still a bit cool outside, but this restaurant has poor air ventilation because the back of the restaurant was super hot. To the point where my bestie son was crying uncontrollably, so I would not sit back there if you have young children. There was only one other patron dining there while we were there and service was incredibly slow. Took forever to get our crepes and then mid meal, I asked for another refill of my Russian pear soda, and the guy forgot. He was tending to the patrons inside and completely forgot about us in the process. We ordered two savory crepes and a pizza crepe with Pear flavored soda. I'm normally not a huge fan of crepes but I will say the crepes are really good, at least the one I ordered. Ground beef, mozzarella cheese, spinach, cherry tomatoes all wrapped up in gooey, melted goodness. They have patio seating in the front of the restaurant and we decided to sit outside after being inside was stuffy and hot. Service wasn't very friendly or warm and inviting as you would typically expect from a restaurant with family and ethnic roots...but I would def come back for a crepe craving fix. read more

The dining area is the size of a postage stamp but the food was excellent. Went for the stuffed dumplings, the tiny stuffed dumplings and a meat pie. The filling in the meat pie was good but the crust had expanded or the filling shrunk but the taste was good. Enjoyed it especially since I've never run across a Russian cuisine place before. Came here for lunch recently. Very impressed! Downtown Tomball is transforming for the better, and Wholly Crepe is a part of that. This is not a huge eatery, but it is a scratch-kitchen place. Don't think you're going to place your order and within 5 minutes have it at your table. The crepes are diverse and so yummy! Savory crepes have ample ingredients and the flavor options blend very well together. Sweet crepes (order one for dessert!) are scrumptious. The Nutella, strawberry and banana option was a real hit. Beef stroganoff came in a generous portions and was enjoyed by all. Tender, tasty beef with just the right amount of liquid made it a perfect choice over noodles. My fave, though, was the soup. Borscht is always on the menu, and they will have one additional soup available. When we went in, it was Rasolnik. I had to ask for an explanation of what it actually was and decided to give it a try. A beef-based soup with barley, potatoes, veggies and of all things - dill pickles. Wow, who would have thought that dill pickles in a soup would taste SO good? Absolutely delicious and after polishing it off, I wished I had ordered a large bowl instead of the small bowl. The bread accompanying the soup was a true Russian rye - very nice! Quaint atmosphere that is obviously very Russian. Service was cordial, although at times it was a bit slow (I think primarily due to it being busy when we were there). This is a great place, and I'm sure I will be back. Support local businesses!
