I have driven past here a number of times and decided to finally drop in for some lunch on a weekday morning. It was on the early side, so it didn't surprise me that we were the only people inside. It's a bit of a different space, with higher tables and stools around some of the windows. It's pretty open. I grabbed some oxtail pho, which was okay, but not outstanding. I expected a little fall off the bone but it ended up being some pretty gristle laden pieces. Being winter, one of the doors kept popping open and a cold, blustery wind kept the place a fridge. Maybe that's nice during the summer, but it also made the place super noisy with all the traffic on the street. Finally, someone walked over and locked one of the sets of doors to keep it from happening. Probably not the best plan in the world. read more

DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PLACE!!!!!! It takes a lot for me to write a review. But this place may be in the top 5 restaurant experiences. Ever. The pho, egg rolls, vermicelli bowl and fresh rolls were to die for. I was curious to see how large the large was and it was definitely big. Lots of broth and a good amount of meat (I got the special). Some drawbacks were that the noodles seemed pretty dried out/stale and not the slight chewiness that pho noodles usually have. I did go towards the later part of the evening so the bunch of noodles might've been leftovers from their takeout ingredients, but it did affect the quality of the pho. I had to ask for some nuoc mam, not even after adding a bunch did the flavors improve. Not another Vietnamese place you say? Well, you would be wrong if you said that about Wicked Chopstix. Yes, it is another Vietnamese restaurant in the Othello area of MLK but the food was really good. When we walked in we were greeted by a very friendly and polite young man who told us we could sit anywhere. He brought us our menus and offered us tea or water. We got the hot tea and they brought a large container of tea. I really like the fact that they did this so I did not have to ask for another pot. He also took some time to explain why one of the dishes was named after Obama... It was the Bun dish he ate when he was in Hanoi. Once we placed our order he was quick to bring us our tea as we waited. I liked the interior. It has a very minimalist appeal to it and I thought the cracked cement floor and the hanging lights gave it a bit of charm. Otherwise the place is pretty simple inside. There are large windows and if you are at a table for four, you can sit and look out at MLK. Our order of fresh rolls arrived quickly and they were nicely plated. If you have read my reviews before you know I am a big fan of herbs and greens, especially in my fresh rolls. I like that there was a n herbal flavor to the rolls instead of simply putting lettuce in as many seem to do. The dipping sauce for the rolls was tasty and there was enough of it. I am someone who enjoys not only good food but I truly believe that presentation does add to the whole dining experience. I loved the way the food was served on one of those small bamboo sifters that are used to separate rice grain from the chaff. They lay a large banana leaf over it as well. The food is then arranged with a nice helping of greens and herbs as well as a bowl to mix your food in. There was even a beautiful red chili that added just a hint of color. I was in a hill tribe village in Vietnam and they served food in this style and so this brought back a few memories. I thought it was a nice touch. We tried two dishes. One was the Bun with pork belly & tofu and the other was the Bun Cha Obama. I think the Bun Cha Obama was excellent. I loved the taste of the pork and how it was seasoned. The egg rolls that came with it were fresh made and not frozen. The pork belly was good and simply boiled which was exactly what I was looking for since I was not feeling so good. I think if I was up for a regular meal I would not have liked it as much since it was not spiced at all. The fried tofu that came with it was in small bite sized pieces which is nice. I am not a fan of the dried shrimp dipping sauce so I asked for some of the fish sauce dipping sauce which I prefer with bun. I think they should give a bit more noodles with the food but otherwise i liked everything else. I was way too full so I did not order the dessert but I think the next time I come back I will try the sticky rice and yogurt. The woman who took the payment at the front counter was very nice and asked us what we thought of the food. I liked that she seemed genuinely interested in what I had to say. I frequent Pho places all over Seattle. I came here starving one day wanting to try it out. I was the only one there. Ordered a large pho with extra meat (+$7 wtf!) and when I got the bowl there was barely any meat! I kindly asked the waitress if the order contained extra meat and she immediately replied, "yes!" No more questions, no more concerns, nothing. $25+ later, that was the biggest rip off and disappointment in a long time. Will not be going back. read more

I can't believe I hadn't already reviewed this place - whoops! I'd come a few times and always ordered the vegetarian Obama noodle, which is quite good. It does include "soymeat," and usually if I want something vegetarian it's because I don't even want pretend meat, but I know I'm an outlier. Just this weekend, my husband and I wanted pho and our usual place was closed. We decided to come here and I'm so glad I finally tried their pho! I got the tofu pho (which does not have a vegetarian broth option, FYI to all vegans) and it was SO GOOD. The broth was really flavorful, not too salty but tasty enough that I kept sipping it even after I was full. I like this restaurant. While not all the dishes are spot on, it's relative clean and pleasant The menu has enough selection for you to pick but is also not too overwhelmed. They also put napkins and utensils in a paper page which i think can be wasteful The bun cha Obama is decent. It offers less noodle than I would imagine but the meat and sauce are good. The lamp cho appetizer is worth for the price. While the taste can't compared to the higher end restaurant but the quantity is decent It's the first place I have seen in years that offer yogurt sticky rice. This is a very common dessert in Vietnam. However I would not suggest you get it here as the sticky rice is hard and doesn't have the chewy and the soft texture as I should have TL,DR: go with Obama noodle and ignore others read more

I came here as the wait at Rainer BBQ across the street was way too immense and seeing a good amount of positive yelp reviews, I decided to give it a try. The restaurant itself looks newly renovated and it was to the point where it looked like a non authentic Americanized spot but I had faith the food was going to be good. Upon entering, the number of white people definitely outnumbered the number of asians and that as a first is very worrying for going to a Vietnamese restaurant, but all the workers looked very Vietnamese & FOB so there was nothing to worry about. The service was exceptional (warm family vibe) and the food was even better. Although it is a little pricey, its very worth it. My table each got a main dish for each person & 2 apps to share. Seeing the dish "Obama noodle" on the menu really made me think this was an Americanized dish, but seeing how it was so popular on Yelp, I gave it a try and I have no regrets. The vermicelli platters are served with a heaping mound of fresh traditional Vietnamese veggies (sprouts, mint, basil, cabbage, and other greens I'm not familiar with the names of), a fat portion of meat, noodles, & a fried egg roll. HIGHLY recommend. The meat was swimming in a pool of sauce/meat oils and its super satisfying to drench it in everything that was served. The mango salad appetizer is amazing and very worth it, while the rice paper salad is definitely a flavor packed authentic dish that is not white people friendly. I woudl see it as a snack that you would slowly nibble on compared to a dish full of sustenance that you would eat to get filled on. I highly recommend checking out this spot. I'm visiting from California and a friend told us about Lobster Pho. What?! I have NEVER heard of lobster in Pho. I'm usually used to eating your typical pho tai or Dac biet but I was intrigued on what the lobster Pho had to offer. Upon receiving it, you see a WHOLE lobster laying on a bed of Pho noodles. There's also scallops, mushrooms, broccoli, and carrots in the broth. It was so flavorful. I'm obsessed. Might have to come back before we leave! I was so hungover, and I knew oxtail pho at Wicked Chopstix should be my first meal of the day (breakfast at 1:30pm is a thing, ok?). I was not disappointed. The broth tasted so flavorful and lovingly prepared. The noodles were the perfect texture... not too soft and still with a little chew in them. The accompanying plate of veggies was so, so fresh and clean tasting! (I rarely eat all the basil, cilantro, or bean sprouts at other restaurants because they're usually wilted or brown.) My one regret is not ordering a bigger bowl of pho! Mr. W. got the Obama noodles (bun cha Hanoi), which I've never had before. It was beautifully presented on a bamboo tray. It had noodles, pork meatball, and crispy bean curd rolls. Delicious. The best was the grilled pork in the broth. The broth was vinegary and a little fish saucey and had pickled carrots and pickled radish. It was also served with fresh veggies and herbs. This dish had a lot of different flavors and textures. It's a must try. To wake me up, I had the cafe sua da (Vietnamese iced coffee), which was very tasty. It totally hit the spot. Hmm... been roaming around to find a good pho place so I decided to give this a try considering it has 4 stars... The place it's beautiful and had a hipster touch to it. I ordered the pho dac biet and my boyfriend got the porkchop with rice. Pho - MSG overload!!! You could taste it on your tongue. It was soooo hard for me to eat my food and everything was extremely salty. The meat that was served in this was hard. Not chewy, hard. It was mediocre. We tried the pho Bac Dac Biet and Bun Cha Ha Noi (bun cha obama). The pho was delicious, filled with beef balls, beef tripe, tendon, the works! The broth was rich and flavorful. Omg, Oxtail pho is so awesome and legit! I could've sipped on the broth all day long, it was so good:) My daughters chicken pho had big chunks of chicken with bone in it, and my husbands steak pho was so tender. The grilled pork chops and rice was good but my new favorite is buttered fried wings. They make fresh fruit mango & avocado shakes, plus variety of milk teas. Oops I forgot to take a picture of that. So, I haven't been to Wicked Chopstix yet (sort of). My husband has gone over to pick up to-go orders from them, and we (us and our teen) are hooked! I've had the Wicked Vegetarian Vermicelli and the Obama Noodles, which were amazing! I enjoy their eggrolls, and everything just sits so well when I'm done with my meal. Delicious! My husband tells me the staff there has been nothing but super nice... and that the restaurant is cute. (We are still avoiding indoor dining... stoopid pandemic... go away!) Very tasty food. I had the special pho and my girlfriend had the ox tail pho, and we shared spring rolls. All the the food was excellent, and the place is clean. A few minor serving issues: the oxtail came without oxtail and the hot tea we ordered was a pitcher of hot water. The server apologized and quickly remedied those. When it came time for the bill it was difficult to get the servers attention. I had this at 5 star, moved it to 4 star when I couldn't get the check (the server finally told me I pay at the register). Early dinner with dad this past Saturday. Dad got the Obama Noodles and I ordered the Hai Nam Chicken Rice. The Obama is a bun dish not served like most places in Seattle but I have had it like this one other place in the ID. You're served a platter of herbs, lettuce, noodles and the protein. When I had it in the ID I got it to go so I told my dad I ended up eating it like a lettuce wrap cause I wasn't sure how to eat it. So that's the route he went, only later after talking to my sister in law did I find out the way we were supposed eat it. I think that would've helped and made the meal more enjoyable for dad. That really was the only issue. The dishes were packed with flavor. My the chicken itself isn't seasoned much but the sauce that comes with it to dip you chicken has tons of ginger, guessing fish sauce and garlic. I've seen the grand opening sin so I decided to try the place. There are a ton of Vietnamese restaurants on MLK so let's see if this one sets itself apart from the others. The atmosphere is great. They leave the doors open so you don't get that pho smell on your clothes when you leave. The place is very clean compared to other places on MLK. Service is friendly. My review is based on 3 different trips to the restaurant. Each time I ordered a different type of Pho. 1st: Large special pho: The first thing I always do is try the broth without any sauces or adds. It was the best broth I've had in this area - I told the guy behind the counter and he was pleasantly surprised. For the price, it was filling and delicious albeit a little on the pricier side. Avocado shake: Great to try once but nothing super special. 2nd: Ox tail pho: I was hoping to have the same amazing pho broth as last time but this time it was more diluted so I was a little disappointed. It was definitely way too pricey for the amount of oxtail (3 small pieces). 3rd: Veal pho: Definitely the best visit of the three. Plenty of meat for a fair price. Broth, once again, superb. I understand Wicked Chopstix is trying to be different than the other places around, there's a good vibe and there's potential for setting yourself apart from the others. It seems you're aiming to offer more expensive type of dishes and targeting a different clientele. Next time I will have to try something not Pho. Keep up the good work. read more
