Buying a car became a 5-hour ordeal. And then I was told I should visit Wickstrom in Barrington. So I did. Dealing with Wickstrom and Don DiPaulo was unlike any other car experience I had. I wanted a two door Wrangler and BOOM! - there it was. Don didn't try to shove the 4-door down my throat or dance the jig trying to get me to go for the Wagoneer. There was no "add this" or "you really need undercoating - now!" The entire experience was painless - Don DiPaulo was very pleasant and accommodating and (I couldn't believe this part) I didn't want to strangle him and (even more unbelievable) i was out of there in less than 90 minutes. I do recommend heading to Wickstrom next time you're thinking of buying a car or truck. You'll be surprised, pleased and delighted at how well you are treated - especially if you search out Don DiPaulo.

Eric was a true one-stop resource--handling everything from the vehicle details to paperwork and financing. Remarkably, I was able to walk in, complete everything, and drive out with the keys in hand in about an hour. That level of efficiency is almost unheard of when buying a car, and it made a typically time-consuming experience refreshingly easy. What should have been an exciting and memorable occasion has turned into a month-long ordeal filled with poor communication, unresolved issues, lack of accountability, and a complete disregard for the customer experience. My concerns began before I even completed the purchase. I spent considerable time working with a salesperson and had built a rapport with him throughout the process. However, I was never informed that he had left the dealership. I only learned this after traveling from Michigan to Illinois and arriving at the dealership ready to purchase the vehicle. At that point, my deal was handed off to Andrew, who appeared to have little investment in the transaction or concern for my overall experience. It immediately felt as though I was simply another sale to be processed rather than a customer making a significant purchase. Prior to traveling, I stressed the importance of having everything prepared and finalized so I could complete the transaction efficiently and get back on the road. Unfortunately, my time was not valued at any point during the process. One of the most frustrating issues has been the mishandling of my license plate transfer. Before arriving at the dealership, I provided a copy of my registration and clearly communicated that I wanted to transfer my existing plate. When reviewing the paperwork, I discovered that a new plate had been ordered and charged instead. When I brought the error to Andrew's attention, he appeared confused despite having my registration paperwork in hand. He attempted to resolve the issue, but the finance department had already left for the day. I was assured the matter would be corrected the following Monday. Monday came and went without communication. When I followed up on Tuesday, I was told the back-office staff was occupied with month-end responsibilities and that I would receive an update by the end of the week. I purchased the vehicle on May 2, 2026. As of June 10, 2026, I still have not received a clear answer regarding my plate transfer or reimbursement for the amount I was incorrectly charged. After multiple conversations with Darren, the Pre-Owned Sales Manager, I was repeatedly assured that a resolution would be found. Instead, I was ultimately told that I would have to "wait and see" whether the transfer was completed correctly and that the process could take up to 90 days. In the meantime, I have no clear guidance regarding whether I should be driving with my transferred plate or the temporary tag. It is unacceptable that a customer who spent a significant amount of money on a vehicle is left uncertain about whether their registration is valid. To date, I still do not have a resolution, a reimbursement, or even a definitive explanation regarding the status of my plate transfer. Additionally, I have never received reimbursement for the Uber ride from the airport to the dealership despite being told that this expense would be covered. I am also disappointed by the lack of knowledge and communication regarding warranty options. Rather than having my warranty options explained by a finance manager, Andrew attempted to explain them himself. When I asked questions, he repeatedly had to leave his desk to consult with the finance department because he did not know the answers. At no point was I informed that the Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned extended warranty could be extended for an additional two years with unlimited mileage after the original coverage expired. Had that option been properly explained, I may have made a different decision regarding my warranty coverage. Perhaps most disappointing has been the complete lack of communication and accountability from dealership management. More than three weeks ago, I sent a detailed email outlining my concerns, including my interactions with Darren. I also contacted the General Manager directly by both phone and email. To date, I have not received a single response. The lack of follow-up from leadership speaks volumes about how customer concerns are handled once the sale is complete. The overall treatment I received at the dealership was equally disappointing. While waiting, I observed other customers being offered simple courtesies such as Starbucks and refreshments while I was largely overlooked. While this may seem minor, it contributed to the overall impression that my business and presence were not valued. I traveled hundreds of miles to do business with this dealership because I believed I would receive the level of service and professionalism associated with both the dealership and the Mercedes-Benz brand. Instead, I experienced poor communication, unresolved administrative issues, lack of transparency, inadequate product knowledge, and a complete absence of follow-up from management. I can with great confidence declare that Marquardt GMC and their entire team are truly the pinnacle of what they advertise "Expect, honesty, integrity and transparency." Frankly, in their quest for professionalism and value for the customer they exceed all expectations. I say this after a lifetime of experience in buying cars as I approach age 70. Please know it's a smaller, family run type businesses. Note that is has successfully been in business since 1950. That is a testament that they are truly best in class at all that they do. The buying process always seem long, but they go through the effort to make you feel at home, address every concern with care and consideration and make the process comfortable and enjoyable in contrast to the adversarial approach others often take. My wife and I genuinely appreciate the blessings to have found this place, the people, and so happy with our new GMC Hummer Pickup. I can't speak highly enough about Dave (Sales Mgr) and Tim M, Sales Associate. Thank you very much for the experience, the vehicle and all of the continued support.

I took their suggestions when going through the huge list of options, but I was told some accessories had to be installed at the dealership and did not arrive at the same time as the vehicle. When the mechanics went to install my Trailer Camera package, they realized that we had ordered the truck with trailer camera mirrors and the Trailer Camera package also ordered had them as well. So, when looking into returning them for the correct package, GM would not return them since it was 30 days past the delivery date. This was an obvious mistake by the sales team and all I wanted was to return the $1,800 package and order the $700 one that was all I needed. After numerous calls, visits and emails, even to the owner, I was completely given the runaround and finally ignored. Now almost a year later, I've given up on the dealership, filed a complaint with GM, which was sent to Marquardt by GM, but was never acted upon. Why even bother if the manufacture isn't going to hold the dealer accountable???? Anyone want to buy a Trailer Camera Package...........

I'm also pleased that rubber floor mats came with it, and the safety/quality checks seem to be very thorough. I did experience a couple of hiccups that concern me. First, after my first appointment on a Thursday, I was emphatically told the car would be ready by the following Monday. There were several delays in the shop over that week that resulted in the car not being available to pick up until the following Monday. This was not a major concern for me, but if I was banking on what I was told after my first appointment, I could have found myself in a bind. Another concern is that, during the test drive, I asked a (rather trivial) question about the material of the vent cover/screen inside the car... I asked if it was plastic, was told it was aluminum, and only after questioning that answer was it revealed that they were actually plastic. My other concern is that the car was sold to me with tinted windows - to be fair, I did test drive the car in that condition. After my purchase of the car, I called Motor Werks to inquire about whether they measured window tint, and if they could remove it in their shop. I was told that it was legal over the phone, which I questioned, and was told that they could recommend a service shop to me. I ended up getting the tint removed independently and learned that the windows had a 4% tint - far below the legal limit of 35% in Illinois. It is concerning to me that I was told untrue things more than once over all of my interactions with Motor Werks, so I hope I do not uncover any more as I continue to drive the car. Ultimately, I got a great car for a great price, but be aware that it's good to ask lots of questions-- and follow up on them-- throughout the process.
