We celebrated Valentines Day a week early. I'm trying new places instead of sticking to the same routine. I'm glad we decided on Wild Garlic Grill. Upon pulling up to the parking lot, you're greeted with the smell of roasting garlic. My husband loves garlic and is known to eat a whole head of it in one sitting so he was excited. We were disappointed the fondue wasn't on the menu. Our server explained that it was too polarizing - people either really loved it or hated it enough to leave poor reviews - so they took it off the menu. You know the chef and staff are reading reviews and taking things to heart so I wanted to reiterate we really enjoyed our meal here. My husband ordered a whiskey and I had a margarita. It was very good - made with freshly-squeezed lime juice. The bread and butter were delicious as well. We both ordered from the daily special board. I had the Scottish salmon with beurre-blanc sauce, risotto, and roasted vegetables. My husband ordered the filet mignon with a truffle based red sauce (I forget the name, sorry), risotto, roasted vegetables, and blue cheese butter. Food and presentation were very bad. The plating of the food was awful - something out of a school cafeteria - glop on a bunch of this and add a glop of that, etc. Then stick a protein on top of the pile. Worse yest, was the seared scallops had been nuked or sat under a heat lamp so long they were rubber. The kitchen made a new order, this time browning the exterior slightly (once again no sear), but then the scallops were refrigerator cold inside. Plate was removed and a cup of soup took its place at no charge. The pricing to quality was way out of line. Companion's meal of salad, entree and a glass of wine ran to 98.00. The beef entree had the same sides as the scallops and the same glop effect, though an orchid was placed atop the woody, too tough to eat asparagus spear (lipstick on a pig?). The filet was cooked very rare rather than the requested medium. And why were the salad greens garnish cooked? Oh yes, microwave and/or heat lamps. I've been wanting to come here since they were down on 1st Ave so I'm thankful my visiting in-laws suggested trying it. Thankful that I finally got it out of my system but I may have been happier keeping the illusion alive in my head as to what I expected and anticipated. There is a lot of indoor and outdoor seating and luckily we had reservations last Saturday evening because it was quite busy. I will tell you the acoustics are horrible indoors. We were seated at a table for four along a wall and could hardly carry on a conversation across the table. Why is it so loud in there??? Our server for the evening was Tiana and she was professional, friendly and extremely knowledgeable in regards to the menu and specials. Tiana is truly an asset for Wild Garlic Grill. The wine list is quite extensive and we were all pleased with our selections. Crusty bread and butter was brought to the table right away but it was unremarkable. I would think a special butter or garlic infused oil would be a nice touch. What we had: MIL had the roasted beet salad and mussels. She enjoyed her food. FIL had a caprese salad and the Scottish salmon (salmon stuffed with king crab shrimp souffle). He had to send his plate back because it was served lukewarm. Once he received his food properly heated, he said it was quite good. Husband had the grilled Durac pork loin and to be honest, it was a bit dry. Flavorful but dry. My selection was the New Zealand rack of lamb with a pistachio nut dijon crust. The lamb was delicious and cooked according to order. The "crust" was more of a dusting as I really couldn't detect the mentioned flavors. The way the food was served was overwhelming to me as I tried to eat it. There was a lot going on, on that plate. The garlic mashed potatoes were good, the garlic confit just a little too much, the spinach was delicious but the other vegetables were not cooked enough. I had to use a knife to cut them and you could hear the crunch when cutting in to them. Quite honestly, I wanted to be wow'ed. I wasn't. The details: - Dinner with clients and team - 5 total no alcohol 365.00 wit tip. - Server - she knew her specials and there are a lot of them! The wait staffs attention to detail is very impressive! Extremely pleased with service - 5 Star - Appetizers- Mussels and Calamari were fantastic! Not your typical small ring calamari. The dish had a side salad that was plenty large. The mussels appetizer probably had 20+ in the dish with a great broth. - Entrees- sea bass, cioppinni, veal, spaghetti bolognese, and the ribs: everyone really enjoyed their meal immensely! Portion sizes - my only recommendation for Wild Garlic Grill - "chill out". Your portion sizes are too much. I hate to waste food, and no one wants you to go out of business. Reminds of a show on Kitchen Nightmares. Are you making enough money on how extremely large your portions are? Just way too much on every dish. Next time I'll order an appetizer or split an entree. I feel for any restaurant in the current environment but there was a specials list that was as long as your arm and our food took 45 minutes to come out of the kitchen. Maybe fewer dishes for the kitchen to crank out would help?? We ordered off the menu, entrees only, and had to ask our server how much longer for the food. Neither of us got the sense that it really mattered to our server. As mentioned, food once we received it was in my case good, my husband thought his osso buco was just OK. We were both very pleased and I wouldn't hesitate to say this is probably the best restaurant in Tucson. The portion sizes are considerable so bring a healthy appetite if you order both an Appetizer and a meal. The roast Duck medallions with sautéed mushrooms was absolutely delicious. The food and presentation was phenomenal....everything cooked to perfection. Had the salmon with the risotto....fantastic. The service was top notch....was feeling a little bit overwhelmed with hearing all the specials. How that waitress was able to memorize all those was unbelievable. Having to do that at every table was a little annoying for people that had heard it before and then whatbI wanted was one of the first things she mentioned but about time they announce the last one...you've forgotten the previous ones. The specials should be printed on a special sheet so you can read them and decide. She made it fun....so we clapped and could see she appreciated it. She was a delight. The place is cozy and mysterious in a good way....reminded me of fancy restaurants you would see Hollywood actors in the 60's....very nice. Dessert we sit...excellent. By far, one of my favorite restaurants to visit. I love coming here as a vegetarian. I also like coming with people so I can share different items. Since they are so large, and there are too many yummy ones to choose from. I love the roasted portobello mushroom salad. And roasted beet salad. I also love their vine, ripened tomato and fresh mozzarella salad with basil, pineapple, pesto, and balsamic reduction. My friends often order the salmon which they say is absolutely delicious. I had really high hopes for this restaurant! The menu is amazing, the chefs accolades are impressive and then you walk in and you see a hand written special menu. The staff was wonderful and I could not wait to dive into the Sea of Cortez jumbo stuffed prawns with artichoke leek risotto. When my plate arrived it had a lot going on. The prawns looked good, but were on a bed of corn risotto surrounded by a ton of various vegetables. The corn risotto was a major disappointment. Who doesn't love a good melt in your mouth risotto, but this was more like creamy rice with corn. It appears after looking around at other tables and then reading other reviews, that this is an every plate staple. The prawns themselves were just ok and a bit on the small side. Tucson needs some really amazing restaurants and does have many, I was disappointed to not add Wild Garlic to my list. read more

For an independent restaurant they have a huge variety of entrees. While other restaurants are pairing down theiremu options Wild Garlic literally has something for everyone, from seafood to duck, lu lamb and even Buffalo. Their selection of entrees puts most restaurants to shame. We ordered the lamb medium rare which was cooked to perfection. I suggest you ask for a side of mint jelly to really take your lb to the next level. It's so friggin good. We also got the stuffed shrimp. The shrimp was good, the lamb was better and this is comh from a shrimp/seafood lover. The shrimp was stuffed with crabmeat and topped with cheese. Only downfall was they only give you 4 shrimp. For apps we got the caprese salad, it was fresh, but I've definitely had better. I was really surprised that there wasnt fresh basil on it. There was fresh spinach though...lol, which I thought was basil until I ate it . MY friend got the mushroom soup. She said it was ok. Of course we got dessert! We ordered the creme brulee and it was DELICIOUS! I love when restaurant's make a good creme brulee and they did not disappoint. read more

This place was highly recommended but our experience wasn't the best. Our friend noticed his wine glass had a chip in it. He called it to the attention of our server who grabbed a fresh glass and dumped the wine from the chipped glass into it. What if the glass chip was in his original glass? Then our entrees came before our salad. We told our server, who set our entrees aside and got the salad. Then we were served cold entrees. Delicious food! The patio is nice and so is the interior. We went for lunch and it was relatively slow, which was great. The Sista who served us knew the menu inside and out! She recited all the specials and made our heads spin lol. We asked for recommendations and she gave us like 4 lol. I ultimately ended up ordering the salmon and I think my sister got the bass Our orders took some time to arrive. Reading the reviews, we knew the food would take longer than expected. But when we received our food....omggggg! Talk about "presentation, presentation, presentation!" Our dishes were works of art, visually appealing, and each was paired with a beautiful flower on the plate for a pop of color and a slightly sweet aroma. The flowers were clearly freshly picked prior to plating Then we tried the dishes. Not only were they beautiful; they were delicious! The heirloom veggies (carrots and mini squash) added great texture bc they still had a slight crunch to them (exactly how they're meant to be cooked so the vitamins are retained). Both fish were cooked awesomely and the risotto was great. I had zero complaints. I suppose it should take longer than expected to receive a dish like this. We asked the waitress and she confirmed they have simpler offerings for children, so I plan to come back with my 4yr old soon. BLUF: 5/5 food 3/5 service (not our waiter's fault) I've come here a few times since they've moved locations and for the most part it's always the same: the restaurant is absolutely packed. Knowing this I made a reservation for the patio (which is very nice) to try and account for the noise, etc. in the main dining room. First off, this place has about 100 specials at any given and the wait staff does a great job of listing them off from memory. My wife and I ordered 2 of the special appetizers (beef tips and foie gras) and then we each ordered one entrée (I got the duck and she got a stuffed salmon dish). It was obvious at this point that both the kitchen and the wait staff were getting a bit overwhelmed. Service was a bit slow because of the above but we did get all of our dishes as we ordered them and they were delicious. We did have to send a few dishes away we hadn't ordered and had an extra dessert on our bill at the end of the meal but that was all easily rectified. All in all dinner took ~ 3 hours but it was very tasty even if some of the gaps between food were overly long. We'll be coming back (and hoping it's a bit less hectic)! read more

This review is only a one star because I had to put something. I will never go back to this place. I ordered the Rosemary Herb Chicken with Risotto - I can not even begin to describe how bland it was. The chicken tasted like baked chicken with nothing on it but a couple rosemary sprigs. No flavor what so ever. The risotto, which was supposed to be parmesan risotto, was crunchy and contained corn - also had very little flavor. The vegetables had absolutely no flavor, which is pretty impressive. Lastly, the plate was beyond overcrowded and looked like something out of a 90' cooking magazine. To top all this, my husband had the "award winning" sea bass special - which was anything but award winning. When he ordered he informed the waiter that he is very sensitive to lactose and can't have heavy cream or milk. So he was told to exchange the risotto for the gratin potatoes (which we found out later was a $6 upcharge when we got the bill!!!!). The plate arrived with the risotto and the waiter immediately noticed and said that he would have it replated, not remade, replated. My husband ended up sick for 2 DAYS!!!! We tried the Wild Garlic Grill on a friend's recommendation. Not too bad for a new experience, but not a top-shelf restaurant. The food and service were not quite as good as the prices might suggest. The food was good - Linguini Bolognese for me, Australian Rack of Lamb for my mother - and the atmosphere was nice. Last night, my husband and I dined at WGG, one of our favorite restaurants in Tucson . . . at least it was until last night. We have been to your restaurant many times and have brought out-of-town guests there as well. In the past, we have had wonderful service. We usually order a salad and an entree to share because your portions are more than we can consume individually and leftovers are not appealing the next day. Last night, we ordered a Caesar salad and the Cabrilla Seabass special, both of which we decided to share. We recall that we have asked our server to have the kitchen split the plates but last night our server told us you would no longer do that. The salad and entree each arrived with a separate plate so that I could divide its contents myself. The result was unappetizing and not an equal split. I had to toss the salad and cut the vegetables in half to ensure that each of us could enjoy all the components of the dish. The presentation was terrible! We were also celebrating my birthday and Father's Day. Our server asked if we would like a complimentary dessert and offered us either cheesecake or limoncello pie/cake. We chose the cheesecake, which arrived "broken." The front of the slice had been cut and had slid forward on the plate. Instead of slicing us another unblemished piece, the server left the broken piece on the table, again with two forks so we could share. This server was not terribly attentive to us during our evening and didn't seem to think anything of serving us a piece of broken dessert. We gave her an undeserved 20% tip. This is not the way we remember being served at your restaurants in the past. While the food was good, with a price tag of $16 for a salad and $41 for our entree, your kitchen should have been willing to split our plates and serve us two presentable dinners. Unfortunately, because there are so many other good restaurants in Tucson, we will not return to WGG. read more

Reservations are a must and seating options are uncovered patio with water fountain and great sunset vibes or 2 covered patios front and rear ,bar seating and main dining.
