I asked for a certain drink that the bartender told me he couldn't make, well I have had this drink before at this place. The guy bartender told us several times he hates his job, gasp! He had a couple of tables to make drinks for. And didn't want to make mine Without the bitching. I told my husband let's leave. I don't know who owns this bar but you need to know I will never come back and will be telling my friends about this place. Your front end can destroy your business. I will never return to this place. I ordered a medium hamburger and it came rare. The manager sent two different waitresses over to try to convince me that it was medium and said if they make another burger for me, they're going to charge me for two burgers. Overrpiced and Dirty -- Bistro44 is an inferior and overpriced restaurant. I ordered the Mediterranean Chicken. The ingredients promised in the menu included mixed greens with roasted artichokes, grape tomatoes, shaved red onion, Kalamata olives, roasted red peppers, toasted almonds, and feta cheese. But there was almost nothing but lettuce and tomatoes. There were fewer than 3 almonds, no roasted red peppers, and no shaved red onion. When I asked for more feta cheese, they charged $2.00 for a tiny, 1.5-inch-by-1.5-inch dish of feta. No restaurant has ever charged money for a little more feta cheese. The place was dark, so we asked that the lights be turned up. That revealed there was a straw and food on the floor. We will not return. read more

Joined friends here and with a little trepidation. Pleasantly surprised. I had the chicken salad and for once, it wasn't made with onions!! Yay! lots of chicken, grapes, cranberry raisins, mixed in a citrus vinaigrette. Yummy. One friend had a burger and the other had the spinach salad and French Onion soup. Everyone was happy. Service was on point. It wasn't very crowded so it was quiet. We could talk without shouting. Restrooms were clean. A great experience. They have a great burger special on Sundays. And if you're lucky you will have Ryan for a bartender! He's awesome! The female bartender, Tracy?, is rude and NOT personable at all. She seems angry she has to wait on people. It's a shame because I would visit more often if she wasn't the one waiting on me. Came for happy hour. Stayed on lounge side. Had the absolute best time. Ryan, the bar tender, was hands down the best. He provided amazing service to everyone all while being so personable. We went on a Saturday. This is important because there is a Sunday burger deal. I'm sure they have more people working when they have more diners. It's very dark inside even at lunchtime. We sat on the patio. There was one server working and she was unhappy to be there and unhappy we sat outside and unhappy we made her walk more. I had some chicken wrap thing. It was okay. Would not order again. My first companion had the steak meal and seemed good with it. My second companion ordered the chicken meal. It's one of the cheapest entrees. Her chicken was cooked to the consistency of turtle shell. The server had said the vegetable of the day was asparagus, but she brought out broccoli without checking with us or apologizing that the kitchen was out of asparagus. That's really poor service. My companion with the chicken went inside to tell the server that her food was inedible. The server came out and insisted on being shown the chicken. She did take it off the bill, but grumbled the whole time. It seems like no one who works there cares about diners. Maybe it's different on Sundays with the burger special bringing in the good cooks and good servers? . Plus 1 star for potential improvement. Would never eat here again though. After a long morning in Sabino Canyon, we were able to walk to this bar for happy hour and wine/beer. I had a wedge salad and was amazed at the amount of bacon and cheese on it! Husband had three sliders and I had one and he finished the salad. Lots of locals here, and a few tourists. Would totally recommend the establishment, especially for HH. Myself, husband, adult son, and elderly in laws arrived for dinner around 5:30 on a Saturday night. As we were walking up, we could hear howling in the walkway up to the front door. When we got there, there was the super sweet dog tied to the stair railing with his water, waiting for his owner. I tell the hostess we are a party of 5. She asks if we would like to sit outdoors since there was nothing available indoors. I ask if there are heaters outside to which she said there was and she'd get her manager to light them. My mother-in-law is always cold and having the heaters on was important. The wait to eat indoors, was 45 minutes, too long for my in-laws. I tell my group what's going on and they said outside is fine. We're seated and the noise level outside is terrible. Not only is there a large intersection where you hear motorcycles and other loud vehicles, but the dog is still howling. Our waitress comes out to take our drink order and my husband askes "do you know how long the dog will be outside?" She said "A while." After she takes our drink order, the hostess and some guy come out to light the heaters. The level of effort given to light the heaters was terrible. He spent less than 5 minutes trying to get them lit and working. We asked our waitress if the heaters were going to be lit, she went back in, then came back out and said they tried and couldn't get them lit. My husband was livid. She asked "Do you guys want to move inside?" I told her there wasn't room and she says "Oh, you're right." We ordered the calamari appetizer and it came out over breaded, cold, and hard and with terrible cocktail sauce. My husband and I got the Mediterranean Chicken Pasta which was good, but my son said his fish taco's were terrible and the chicken cordon bleu my in-laws had was dry. Wow, first time in Bistro 44 today. I had the grilled fish tacos and they were phenomenal. I make a point to try fish tacos whenever possible at different restaurants. I had no idea what to expect but for the first time and I don't know how long I seriously cleaned every scrap of food off the plate. So our visit to the Bistro was very 50-50. The ambience was nice and the servers were very kind. My French onion soup was delicious but my fish tacos were very bad. It had zero seasoning, not even salt. The fish was fresh I could tell it was fresh fish - but it tasted awful and so bland. The veggies were the same- zero flavor. The other thing that was a disappointment was the bathrooms did not have a changing table so I had to change my son in the car. You would think going into 2025 all restaurants would have at least one Koala Kare changing station. I would only want to come back for the French onion soup since it is hard to find good French onion soup. read more

Lunch before, dinner now. Our hostess was so warm she reminds me of a summer breeze. The ambiance felt dewy due to the typhoon that's coming, but it relaxed me. A few weeks ago my husband and I drove past and commented on how we have never been there but should, as they must be good to have lasted so long. Then, as fate would have it, we had a friend of the daughter with us the other night and her family is only doing restaurants with patios. Here was our chance! Not only does bistro 44 have a patio, but they have misters too. We were seated quickly and the server was friendly and helpful. She gave us the long list of specials and helped us make selections. She brought fresh delicious bread and kept our waters filled. The food was great, especially the mashed potatoes served with the short ribs. Not sure what herbs were in them, but delcious. My husbands steak was perfectly done, which he almost never thinks happen. My daughter really enjoyed her Cuban sandwich and the old bay seasoning on the fries is fantastic. Our party of six rolled in for dinner on Wednesday evening. I called ahead and they reserved a table for us right behind a group of Tucson retirees who were break g down their trips, news about their families and all the haps at the retirement center. We were greeted and given an overview of the specials not listed on the menu. Most of us selected the 14oz Ribeye which came with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Bite size bread came out before the meal and was okay as something to munch on before the diner course arrived. The steaks were good sized, mashed was of good consistency and the veggies cooked well, not too hard or soft-right in between. The flavor on everything was a little bland honestly, I don't think any of it had seasoning. Salt and pepper were absolutely necessary and even then, didn't add all that much to the flavor. Good, but not great. I kinda expected a little more from a place that appears to be more upscale. read more

I came with my normal group of friends a few weeks ago - a group of 8. This restaurant has been around a long time and yet you really don't hear much about it. I think maybe they downsized it over the years, because it seemed much smaller than I remembered it. We were seated inside and it was very busy. It was very loud, and the tables are tightly packed for maximum capacity. Our server took our order quickly and efficiently, as we had a few late stragglers. The drinks came out quickly. Some had cocktails, some water, and some of us wine. Our food orders also came out quickly. I ordered the Mediterranean chicken pasta, and it was delicious. The chicken was overcooked, but the pasta was not, and the pesto sauce was flavorful. The serving size is plentiful, so I took more than half home and had it for dinner the next day. The prices are reasonable for the type of ambiance. This dish and two glasses of wine came to about $55. A group gratuity was added to each of our bills, but our server was so wonderful that we all gave her a little more. read more

I hadn't been here in several years, so this was a treat. We were the first ones to arrive for lunch that day and had our choice of tables. Our server was friendly and answered all our questions. As time progressed, it got pretty busy. Our server was the only one for the entire dining area, she was also the hostess, the cashier, and found out she'd also helped in the kitchen cooking! She apologized for not giving us better service, but we all thought she did a fantastic job in spite of how super busy she was. I chose a cup of French onion soup and it came loaded with lots of onions and delicious cheese melted on top. I rarely order a wedge salad because I don't like to pay so much for a piece of iceberg lettuce with a few toppings, but this one sounded so good and was more reasonably priced, so I tried it. First of all, it was a HUGE wedge. And it was loaded with lots of dressing, blue cheese crumbles, tomatoes, and bacon bits. It was delicious and I was pleased with my selections. I'll have to remember to go there again before so much time passes! I've heard their half-price burgers on Sundays are yummy, so that might be our next visit. read more

We have eaten here on many, many occasions and almost exclusively on Sundays for the 1/2 priced burger deal. Pretty consistently good but Mother's Day 2025 was a whole different story. It started when we were told they couldn't find our reservation and they were "completely booked" that day. After some discussion, and feeling like they wanted us to leave, the waiter said we could sit at two tables along the perimeter of the patio and allowed us to "push them together". After water and menus were brought to us, the person who actually called in the reservation showed up and told the waiter she had called the day before and left a message. His exact response was "we don't check our messages"!! Strike one! We were then told they don't honor the 1/2 price burger deal on that day/holiday and maybe that's our fault for not knowing and/or checking if it's always been that way. We inquired about using a coupon for $ off if you purchased two entrees but were told you had to buy two entrees AND two drinks; which was no where written on the coupon. Strike two! Most everyone ordered the house burger from the menu, with a listed price of $17.49 and awaited our food. Upon finishing our meal and getting the check(s) the burgers were listed at $19.49. We inquired and were told they were using the "dinner menu" all day and not the "lunch menu". This was never mentioned to us and why would we expect the use of a dinner menu at 12:30 in the afternoon! Strike three! We reluctantly paid and left around 1:30 however not before noticing that if they were completely booked that day it must have been for later because the place was half empty! read more

One would think this establishment may not be known for its beef, but what a pleasant surprise. Its sirloin steak on the menu is always seasoned well, tender, and cooked to perfection.
