I ordered from Wild Ginger tonight and it was terrible for one big concerning reason... food safety and freshness. The tuna in my sushi roll was gray and tasted old. The avocado in the roll turned brown to black and also had a funny taste. On to the seaweed salad. It also tasted old. The greens were brown, the tomato was wrinkled and the cucumber was translucent and mushy. I threw out the whole meal. This place should be shut down from the health department. What was served to me was unacceptable. Might I mention that this is the second time I received old food. Last time I ordered cooked food with rotted broccoli that was yellow and the smell that came from the package was definitely not edible. I stumbled across this place looking for a place to have lunch, since my usual sushi place was closed. Using Yelp I decided to give this place a try and I was not disappointed. I went with a friend and order the sushi sashimi for two, which came with soup and a salad. The ginger in the salad little bit too much enjoyment but the miso soup was very good. The service also comes with a basket of chips and duck sauce, which I never seen at a sushi place before but it was very welcome as it gave us something to munch on while we waited. The dish itself was very well put together, with different types of fish and two special rolls. Well it's not the freshest sushi ever had, it was very good considering how small the place is, and didn't have any weird aftertastes. I was not particularly fond of the two special rolls but they were of high-quality nonetheless. I also wasn't fond of the spicy mayo they had, but their green tea more than made up for it. The decor was a mix of Chinese and Japanese items, but was clean, had lots of open space, and was very comfortable overall. The servers were quick and considerate, always checking to see if we needed more drinks or if anything was wrong with the food. Always my go to place! They recently got new chefs, which I was weary about at first. But after trying some of their new options, I'm very pleased. My boyfriend and I love their sushi taco and pizza (even tho it sounds bizarre). The girl at the front is always very sweet and accommodating, they even offered curbside pick up (which they don't usually do) when we weren't comfortable going in since it was crowded. We ordered pork and shrimp dumplings which came with a peanut sauce that doesn't go with dumpling and the inside was like horSe meat DISGUSTING. For dinner we shared shrimp pat Thai and red curry chicken. We eat pat Thai often never have I seen PINK pat Thai it was horrible and the shrimps were shiny and slimy. The waitstaff is always making recommendations if we seem hesitant on what to order and the kitchen doesn't seem to mind when we ask to modify a dish. -The Smithtown location is always looking to drum up new business so you can find coupons, groupons, and deals all over the internet to try to save some dining dough. -The Menu Offers an Amply Selection from pretty much every region of Asia so there should be something here to suit just about everyones food fetish. -Wild Ginger seems to use higher quality, fresher ingredients and the dishes seem more thoughtfully prepared!. I came here because I used a groupon. Service is not good. We order sushi dinner, a spicy salmon hand roll, and seas scallops with vegetables. The sushi dinner and spicy salmon hand roll were delicious. The seas scallops were not nasty, and the vegetables were not undercooked. So, I asked the waitress if the cook could cook the dish longer. So she tells me "It is already cooked". So I had to repeat myself that the vegetables were not cooked properly. So she takes it back. We get it back a few minutes later and the vegetable are now burned. So we did not eat it, and when the waitress asked us how the food was, "I told her the sea scallops dish was not good, and it was now burnt". And, I showed her the mushrooms. So, she shows someone else working there, and the person just looks at us. No apology, she doesn't offer another dish, they charged us full price. I would only go there for sushi. I gave it two stars because of the sushi and the atmosphere. The setup was beautiful and the place was clean. The green tea is also good. But, not worth the money and bad service. I've been here a few times, starting from when they first opened. At the beginning, the food was pretty decent, but I feel like they had to change their strategy because they weren't initially a hit. Wild Ginger aims to be an almost pan-Asian sushi restaurant, and the result is basically mediocre everything. The only time I go here is with my friends, usually with me complaining about not going to Kushi Sushi instead, which is only a minute away from this place. They have a gimmicky "half-off sushi" deal that runs most hours of most days, which definitely attracts a lot of people. The deal itself is quite good, but this deal doesn't apply to most special rolls, which makes it a half-hearted attempt at offering competitive prices to me. Instead, all the basic rolls are halved, and at the quality they are served at, it makes sense. Unfortunately, nothing really excels here. Every fish I've tried here, including the salmon, eel, and tuna, are all very forgettable. The white tuna is simply a disappointment. I wouldn't recommend ordering sashimi here because it exposes the quality of the fish too harshly. The special rolls are decent, and they definitely do a good job at presenting everything in a fancier way, but their non-half-off items don't make up for the subpar quality of the half-off ones, because that's what you're probably getting anyway if you're coming here. I wouldn't recommend anything from here if you asked me. I had the rock shrimp once which was pretty decent. Come for the prices, that's really it. read more

This place is awesome, one of the rare places you can get a tasty authentic meal, or savor an actually good fusion dish, which is hard to come by. Their Pad Thai is delicious, and Indonesian Sambal always terrific. We really love the Thai coconut curry, it's exquisite. They have a lot of great dishes to choose from. This was a beautiful restaurant, which was well kept and staffed. The atmosphere was excellent. My group and I spilt the Dim Sum sampler to start which was amazing, it is clear that their chef knew what he was doing. For dinner we spilt sushi, which was sadly a disappointment. The brown rice that was used was either old or not cooked properly, which subtracted from the high quality fish they used. I am very well versed in sushi and this was clearly not up to par, thus my rating if three stars. 9/21/2020- I saw on their website that they were offering half off sushi when you dine-in. When we came in the place was empty which before corona would be taken as a red flag (and we should have see it as one post corona too) but we decided to dine in the empty restaurant. There were fruit flies around our table. The tuna was flavorless. And the cherry on top- there was a hair straight across one of my rolls. I did not ask for another roll I asked for it to be taken off the bill which I'm glad I did because upon receiving the bill at FULL PRICE you could say I was in shock. I pulled up their website and showed her the advertisement and the waitress said they're not honoring that anymore even though it's currently advertised on their website. Learn from me. Let me preface this review by stating that we have eaten here half a dozen times in the past 10 months and really enjoyed it. However something has changed, and not for the better. Tonight we had Pad Thai, pan-pan noodles, and crispy Thai chicken. The pad Thai was chicken low mein! Ugh. Thai crispy chicken wasn't crispy and was bland. The pan-pan noodles tasted like the pad Thai that tasted like low mein. The Vietnamese salad was very good. The miso soup was miso soup. Ice cream.. Chocolate was chocolate flavored slush... Wow. I didn't expect the variety for half priced sushi. I thought they would skimp on the fish but they don't! Don't have to worry about them over stuffing with rice either. And surprisingly, the fish was fresh except the tuna. It looked kind of off too. Of course don't have too high of an expectation because you get what you paid for. I also tried the Thai fried rice with shrimp. 17 medium sized pieces of shrimp. Are you kidding? Either they were going bad or they accidently put too much. It tasted great though but the rice came out in like 5 minutes, which is impossible so it makes me think it was pre-made. I was surprised to see some of the pricing. $8 for an Avocado salad?hmm.. But it was in a bigger bowl. Probably double the amount you get for an order of Avocado salad from other places so it's worth it. Service was nice and fast. Only one sushi chef for 4 tables who ordered around the same time and we all got it quick. However, I don't like that they didn't mention the $2 charge per person for tea so -1. Wild Ginger is my favorite local sushi spot. The food is fresh and delicious, and they run a special Sunday through Thursday - "half price sushi." Normally this would set off a red flag...thoughts like "why are they giving it to us for half price, is it old and rotten?" and "if something seems too good to be true, it probably is" definitely entered my mind. But to taste is to believe! Pros: The food is excellent. Period. The half price sushi, it turns out, ISN'T too good to be true, it's one hell of a deal that I'm sure is part of the reason the restaurant is always hopping. My husband and I can go for dinner during the week, each get 3 or 4 sushi rolls, and spend less than we would have on two entrees at the diner. Now that's a deal! The sushi pizza on the appetizer menu is to DIE for. Perfectly light, flaky crust, topped with the freshest fish (I've tried all 3 options: salmon, tuna & yellowtail) and a wonderful spicy mayo. I've yet to find another restaurant that tackles this dish as well as Wild Ginger. In addition to the fresh, delicious sushi, the wait staff is nice and attentive. The dining room decor is chic and modern, and the restaurant overall is clean and inviting... including the bathrooms. I can't wait to go back! Also, they have takeout options for both lunch and dinner at discounted prices...and you can place any takeout order online, quickly and easily! Cons: The restaurant looks very generic from the outside - barely identifiable in a strip mall of stores and restaurants. Some nice, modern signage would fix this teeny tiny problem. I witnessed another gentleman ordered food, came to pick it up and they gave his food to someone else. He politely asked for his money back and she fought him on it, saying just wait. He insisted on his money back and she finally caved. When he asked to make sure if he was refunded, she said "it says void doesn't it? Read".
