My daughter works for the restaurant corporation the manages these restaurants and Wild Goose Tavern is one of them. Since it is Orange County Restaurant Week, we figured it's the perfect time to sample the various different styles of cuisines. The OCRW menu is a Pre fixe selection of 3 courses. To mix it up a bit we selected course 1: the sweet potato fritters and the bacon fries. 2nd: wild goose burger and short rib Mac and cheese sando. 3rd: each of the two desserts offered, the cinnamon roll and the chocolate mousse. Quality was good. Taste was mixed feelings. For me the short rib Mac & chs was dry. Probably could use an extra dollop of the beer cheese for extra moisture. The burger was excellent. The sriracha thousand island sauce has a good kick, so if spice is not your thing, order it on the side. Desserts were both great. R also tried a couple of their extended Happy Hour offerings which I got the MBP slice of pizza and some onion rings. The rings were nicely bettered, but ask for ranch. It made it taste better. I'm rarely in Orange County, but I had to get something done and wanted to grab food before heading back to West LA. This place was in the top 5 suggestions in the area on Yelp. I can tell you that it was an ACCURATE suggestion! I loved it here and I'd gladly drive an hour back here on a weekend. The food was great, great pours on drinks, and the staff were so incredibly attentive and friendly! Emi, Alyssa, and Alex made my time there fantastic! Even employees who weren't my servers stopped to ask if I was doing okay or needed anything. Quality service! It is a SPACIOUS place. Perfect for group events, Game Day food/drinks, or if you just want to hangout on a regular day without feeling like you're in a sardine can. (Granted, game days will get packed!) I also LOVE some of the events and charitable causes they participate in. Right now (Oct 2024), they're working with the Breast Cancer Awareness Fund and have 3 signature cocktails for this event. $2 of every signature drink goes towards that fund! I've been missing out on some delicious well crafted and superbly cooked food all these years. I usually come here to have some drinks, do a little dirty dancing and watch sports but damn I feel their food menu is really underrated. I've eaten here now about 3 times and I can confidently say most people will Not be disappointed. Highlights: nachos and the Korean BBQ bowl. Big portions are served that I don't think a lot of people can finish. Went here for OC Restaurant Week to try their menu! For a Thursday night, the vibe was very lively and the place was packed. Service was very nice. First, the cocktail I ordered with Bourbon, blueberry puree, and walnut bitters was delicious and not too alcoholic. For Restaurant Week, they had a 3 course menu for $25. Each section had at least 2 options. For appetizers, we tried their limited edition fries as well as their sweet potato & blue cheese fritters. These were the highlight for us in terms of what we ate; the most delicious. The mains were a bit more on the flavorless side unfortunately. We tried the Father Burger and the Mac N Cheese Short Rib Sandwich. We were super full by the time dessert came around but tasted them nevertheless. The chocolate mousse was tasty. We go there for there great happy hour (M-F, 11am - 6pm (!)) and service at the bar. Always good IPAs on tap and friendly service. Nice selection of HH food - our favorite is the sweet potato goat cheese fritters with the 2 yummy dipping sauces - garlic aioli and chimichurri (cilantro-based we think). The only downside is if you don't get a seat at the bar, the music can be loud in the main area. But we usually have no problem getting a bar seat, at least during the week. Enjoy! read more

I came in early afternoon when the bar was almost empty (maybe four tables). Service should have been smooth, but it wasn't. I ordered a chicken club and a Diet Coke. The soda tasted off, so I switched to a Sprite--same issue. That's when I learned both soda machines were broken. Not the end of the world, I was fine with water. But 20 minutes into eating my sandwich, I still hadn't received a refill. Eating without a drink, while the place wasn't even busy and with two servers on the floor, was disappointing. The sandwich itself was solid, but things went downhill with the bill. Like many places now, they brought over the handheld payment machine--no itemized receipt shown up front. I tipped 20% even though the service really felt more like 15%. When the total seemed high for just a sandwich, I asked to see a printed bill. Sure enough, I had been charged for soda I never actually got to drink. Instead of removing the charge, they handed me a Diet Coke "to-go from the back." Everyone was polite and friendly, which is the only reason this is 2 stars instead of 1. But friendliness doesn't make up for being charged for items you didn't receive. Whether it's $3 or $30, customers shouldn't have to pay for things they didn't get. read more

Wild Goose is seriously one of my all-time favorite spots. I've had so many good memories here - from my husband's surprise birthday party to another surprise party for one of my best friends recently, and even a pre-wedding brunch with family. I also come here regularly during football season to cheer on my Niners. The atmosphere is perfect for sports fans and big groups, and while it gets super busy (which honestly just shows how loved this place is), the energy is always upbeat and fun. It's got that buzz you want in a bar, but it still feels like home. The food never misses. I'm obsessed with the Honey Badger pizza slice - it's huge and sooo good. And if you haven't tried it with a cold Slap N Tickle beer, you're missing out. That combo is *chef's kiss*. But what really keeps me coming back is the service. I've never had a bad experience. Every single server I've had has been super friendly, on top of things, and just genuinely fun. Was going to give it three stars sadly dropping down to two. My friend and I came here on MLK Day around 2pm for their "longest happy hour" (11a-6p), but they don't do it on holidays. Tons of seating and we sat at the bar. Lots of TVs all on ESPN and various sports. Started playing the Notre Dame-Ohio game as we were leaving and the place really started filling up for that. More servers came on and it got pretty busy so it took a while to get sauce containers to go with our to-go food container. I had the burger, and even though I had it without cheese because I'm lactose intolerant- it was nothing to write home about. The fries were good though. The deviled eggs came with 4 halves and the garlic aioli interested me but I didn't love it so much more than a more regular deviled egg. My friend liked the sweet potato fritters but took them home and said her square pizza was fine too. My Paloma was fine - if a bit spicy/smoky. But we both really liked her Hibiscus Marg. All in all, I wasn't overwhelmed by the food. And then later on, it was my only meal of the day besides some food I always eat - potato chips, hot cocoa and fruit snacks - and I had an upset stomach overnight. My friend was interested in trying their brunch or trivia or other themed nights. I love how their Happy Hour extends all the way to daytime, and do think it's one the best deals for HH around here for the food. There are only a few drink items on the HH menu with slight discount. We came at 1PM on Thurs and there were a few people. Spacious parking lot available in the back. + Food: Beer Battered Fries is 8/10 - Great flavor and crunch, good sauce, but they came out room temp which was strange + Drinks: Espressos Martini 7/10, Old Fashioned 7/10, both were a bit bitter for our taste, but does the job lol + Environment: It's a spacious place with indoor and outdoor options. This is a unique bar with an eclectic assortment of décor and good bar food! We parked in the parking lot in the back, which has free parking! Walked in and wandered around. After a wild goose chase, looking for someone to welcome us, someone finally told us we could sit anywhere we'd like. We decided to sit in the game room where it wasn't quite as drafty. The entire place was pretty much opened up to the outside elements. It was a cool day out. The Bay Arcade sign in that room came from the Balboa Fun Zone which closed in 2017 after 70 years! We checked out the bars. There are two. The Main Bar is near the entrance and The Saloon is the one nearest to the patio. They weren't using the latter one while we were there around noon on Sunday. This tavern is designed to evoke a hunting lodge type of feeling. There are quite a few taxidermy animals on the walls. I saw 2 boar's heads, a stag's head, beaver, birds, and antlers. Also in the mix was a raccoon with an animal riding it! Lots of the antlers have bras hanging off of them. There's a sign at the entrance that says "21& Over", so I don't think this is a family restaurant. I didn't see any minors in here when we came for lunch on a Sunday. We came for the Orange County Restaurant Week. They have a really great deal. During OC Restaurant Week, their offer is $25 for Starter, Entrée, and Dessert, It's honored from Open to 10PM. Hubby got the Sweet Potato Goat Cheese Fritters & Wild Westside Burger, The Westside Burger is a Bison Burger which was interesting. We've never had Bison, so this was a good opportunity to try it. I got the Onion Rings & Seared Ahi Tacos. I really enjoyed the Ahi Tacos! I appreciated the fresh sliced Jalapeños, they added that bit of heat was a nice addition! The onion rings were the star of all we ate here! If you eat just one thing here, get the onion rings! They're Whiskey battered and they are perfect! The dessert is a Bourbon Chocolate Chip - a warm Bourbon butter cookie with chocolate chips, vanilla ice cream, crushed candied pecans, and a Cognac Shot. If you are not a drinker, beware of the strong flavor of Cognac! It won't get you tipsy, but you will taste it! I'm glad we got to try this place! I had never heard of it before! I immediately emailed and never got a response. I called back the next day and they got a manager without me asking. The manager looked up my email and then told me they only except reservations for 8 or more. As my party was smaller, it was first come first serve. I was assured that at 6:30pm on Friday night, I would have no problem getting in. When we arrived, we discovered that it was VERY limited parking and Valet only. That would have been fine, except, there was no one working the valet. We waited for more than 10 minutes but no one helped us. As there was no parking, available, we decided to leave and eat elsewhere. Sad because we were looking forward to the experience, food and drinks. It would have been nice for them to email me back to let me know about the reservations. In addition, it would have been nice to let me know about the parking when I was on the phone with them and how to get my vehicle parked by valet. read more

We got carded, I haven't had that done in quite some time. We took a seat across from the bar and after waiting 10 minutes for someone to bring us a menu, we decided to switch seats to go towards the other side of the restaurant. The sweet potatoes and goat cheese fritters were just okay. I thought it would have tasted better. It was rather bland and although the dipping sauces helped, it wasn't enough for me to keep eating it. The BBQ short rib fries on the other hand were delicious. The crunch from the fries, the richness from the short ribs, and the sweetness from the BBQ sauce were majestic. The fried pickles were alright, I thought it had a little bit too much batter but it did taste like it was light. Living in Texas, I have high standards when it comes to fried pickles. The I'm Vegan pizza slice was phenomenal. It was a little messy eating it but everything tasted so fresh. The slice was big enough to split in half. I came here to watch the Lakers game and first impression was that I really loved the ambiance of the place. There were a bunch of tables and tv screens to watch the game. I was overwhelmed at how many food items they had on their menu, and they all sounded really good. The below is what we ordered, and unfortunately we all agreed that the food could taste a lil better.. 1) Cauliflower Wings (5/5): I thought these tasted the best out of everything we ordered. The cauliflower was soft with a good amount of buffalo sauce on them. The ranch it was served with was really good too. 2) Crispy Brussels (3.5/5): Pretty good but the whiskey sauce tasted way too much of whiskey lol. I think it would've tasted better if the whiskey was cooked down more.. I did like the added crunch from the walnuts! 3) Bavarian Pretzel (4/5): The pretzel was huge but it didn't taste pillowy soft like other places I've tried. However, their beer cheese and creole mustard was delish! 3) Crudo-Quiles (2.5/5): I love chilaquiles but these didn't taste that good to me.. The red sauce tasted kinda strange and overall bland. I'm glad I added the short rib since it made it taste a little better and it was super tender too. 4) El Vegano (3/5): My sister got this sandwich since she's a vegan. We both read what was inside the sandwich and it sounded delicious. I actually really love vegan food too, but we both agreed that it didn't taste that good. The fries that came on the side though were yummy and super crispy. I love that they have something going on throughout the week, such as Taco Tuesdays and Sat/Sun brunch. The atmosphere is like a typical dive bar, there's bras hanging from the ceiling and random crap for decorations. The drinks are just ok, but reasonably priced. We sat at the bar, service was fast since the bartenders were in front of us. However, the food wasn't very good. I asked for crispy bacon on my club and it was still mostly raw, practically pink and uncooked. I would stop in for drinks and eat somewhere else.
