For the few 1--2 star reviews here, Im willing to bet that they're disgruntled ex- Wild Horse West cooks & staff that couldn't keep up with the high standards in this establishment. Sure-- you walk in and it looks like a typical aging dive bar... When you receive your order & take your first bite, however... THATS when you'll understand why the Wild Horse West is so highly vouched for as, "The best in the west". Just be prepared to pay cash for everything. They do not accept Debit/ credit cards or any kind of electronic payments. The withdrawal fees at their ATM is mammoth too. It's the only inconvenience you'll find here & Ittl only get ya, if you forget! It's always been this way at the Wild Horse West-- For the last 25 years, I've been coming back to the Wild Horse West after overnight fishing trips at Lake Pleasant, and for convenient meals when I didn't want to cook-- being that it's 15 minutes from my home. But not for long... next month, I move to Cambodia-- and there's no burgers like Wild Horse West there! The closest thing I'll find to one of their burgers, will be Burger King. read more

I've driven by here a million times and never gave it much thought until someone recommended it to me. It's a small rustic dive bar with picnic tables and inexpensive beer. A pretty good beer selection for a dive bar and a perfect spot to have a beer after a day at the lake. I had the Swiss burger on rye. It was smaller than I expected and a bit dry. From the whitewashed southwest adobe style structure to the bison head mounts behind the bar, Wild Horse does great honor to a Sonoran Desert watering hole. Yes, it's a roadhouse menu, but there is something here for everyone from the meanest carnivore to the meekest herbivore. It's a place where road worn bikers, desert rats, and affluent boaties sit shoulder to shoulder sharing stories and adventures. This is a cash only place, which always means family joints where the food is filled with love. And these folks keep the price of food and drink as economical as possible. I'm always pleasantly surprised at the moderate bill. I believe the cheeseburger with a green chili, backed up with a cup of chili is a world class experience. I'm pretty sure the chili is classic Hormel in a can, while the burgers are hand crafted masterpieces. Add a pile of chopped onions and cheese to the chili and you get an American classic. The burgers are loaded with onion, lettuce, and pickles with peppeiccini peppers on the side. Served on a paper plate with a bag of Lays chips (no fries here) these burgers are uniquely awesome. (I'm seriously suspect of reviews in this thread that talk of fries and show hard plates. Something not right there.) Where else can you order a small bag of Fritos with chili and cheese poured in over the chips? Call it a Chilrito, and what's not to like about that!!! The dogs, especially the chili dog, do serious justice to that American classic!!! As do all the offerings on the menu. Cold beer and a full bar compliment the kitchen. Some days you just need bourbon with your burger. Other days genuine PBR from La Crosse Wisconsin fills the bill. You don't find a lot of PBR in this part of the country, and it's a lesser place fore the lack. I've always had great service here and never left with anything but a smile and satisfied appetite. You know you have been somewhere special when the long wall-length western bar starts at the kitchen and ends at a live bait shop for the Lake Pleasant fishing crowd! It's not a day on the lake if you don't end it at Wild Horse. I've been going here for at least 25 years and the food has stayed consistently fantastic. It's nothing fancy but definitely hits the spot. The burgers are the thickest around. Chilrito is great if you're a fan of Frito pies. Even the grilled cheese is delicious! Cash only but there is an ATM on site. They also have a pretty good beer selection from local breweries. read more

After a long time away we stopped by yesterday after a long day of riding and before heading to the lake. It was such a better experience from last time. Total dive bar/restaurant. Limited menu, but what they do have they do really well !!! The service was fast and friendly. The food even better. The only heads up I will give is they only accept cash, and that was an issue that day as I didn't realize it until after we had ordered. As many have said, this is a by-definition Biker Bar/Watering Hole that you found on the side of a secondary highway. The Outside is white/adobe and quite eye-catching against all the cookie-cutters strip malls and new-builds you see a few miles south of the Lake Pleasant. Inside was adorned with beer ads, hunting trophies and a big TV with old westerns playing. Food was good. I ordered a chili and it was good. My six years old daughter and I shared the burger since she usually have a hard time finishing an adult-sized burger. The burger is good with the patty tasty and cooked to perfection. We ordered one with cheese and bacon, and she ate it very quickly (probably because it was way pass our usual lunch hours and we just spent 3 hrs running around Lake Pleasant Park). Service was friendly but since we got that rather late (about 1:45PM) our server left before we finished the meal and my drink was never refilled. That's my only very slight annoyance. read more
