WITHOUT QUESTION, THE BEST PIZZA I HAVE EVER HAD! Recently, my friends and I got into a rather deep, intellectual debate. The question was: Is there such a thing as the world's best pizza? I was convinced that while pizza can be good, finding the world's BEST would be nearly impossible. I thought that until I came to Fish Creek and discovered the Wild Tomato. The pizza is a perfect consistency. Well done, but not burnt. Crispy, but not TOO crisp. The sauce is perfect. The cheese? Wisconsin's finest. Perhaps the reason this pizza place is the best is because you can put the world's most delicious cheese curds on your pizza - making for literal pizza perfection! During my week in town, my colleagues and I visited NUMEROUS times. It was just as delicious each time. As an added perk, there's loads of shops and an amazing custard stand just down the street that you can enjoy after your pizza. Been to Door County many times and somehow haven't hit this place before. We were there in the off-season so it was not crowded when we went in. I am told this is not the case normally. The two guys with us got a pizza. I and my friend got the cauliflower steak sandwich with macaroni and cheese. The guys loved the pizza. They make it right in front of you in the big fire oven. The cauliflower sandwich was different but very good. If you don't like cauliflower, I wouldn't get it but if you do, it is a huge chunk of it with some great flavors around it. I do not understand how anyone thinks this is pizza. Frozen pizza is much better. The tomato sauce tasted like nothing, as if someone just opened up a can of tomato sauce and poured it in a tasteless crust and dropped a little cheese on it. Also their regular cheese pizza has provolone cheese on it. Who does that? That's disgusting. It's a pizza not an Italian sub. Also the Parmesan knots were cold and tasteless. There has to be better pizza in this area but I don't know. My daughter asked me why the pizza was wet. It is harder to choose a pizza than to give a 5 start rating here. The whole menu is appetizing and the pizza if the day (donation creation) makes some unique pizza combinations. Designated parking and a half mile away from downtown make it accessible. The beer options are well beyond your standard options, and represented one of the most diverse and well rounded list that I've seen up here. Highly recommend. read more

We came back to the area after a several year absence. It didn't take long to return to Door County's best pizza. Still carefully crafted and made with fresh ingredients, this pizza is worth the travel time and the wait. (You can expect a wait during peak season.) We made the 22 mile pilgrimage from Sturgeon Bay to order a large delux pizza. The pizza was made right before our eyes. I enjoyed one of 8 craft beers they offer on a rotating basis. When our pizza arrived, it was steaming hot right out of the wood oven. The crust was golden brown with black grill marks on the bottom. One might think the crust is burnt, but it is just a little residue from the grill floor that rubbed off on the crust bottom. I think it adds a smokey flavor to the pizza. Did you know they monitor the moisture content of the wood in order to ensure the crospiness of the crust? If the wood is too wet, the crust gets doughy when baked. Too dry and the crust is brittle and crumbles. The cheese was melted and slightly brown, the toppings cooked, but not overly so. One thing to note. We asked to substitute black olives for the mushrooms. They charge for an extra topping when you make a substitution. They offer seversl specialty pizzas with unique toppings. I'm not that adventurous, but if you order one in particular, they donate an amount to a local charity. Wild Tomato is a winner on so many levels. This will most likely be my all time favorite pizza. read more

A few years ago on a family trip to Door County, we enjoyed the terrific pleasure of dining at this once-fine establishment--the pizza was hot, bursting with flavor, and divided properly into slices with care and precision. Since we've been back in town, we have all been so excited anticipating our return to this favorite restaurant. I'm therefore genuinely heartbroken to have to write this review, as in all seriousness this was one of the worst pizzas I've ever eaten: this is the first pizza experience which has left us legitimately dreading to have leftovers tomorrow. Unlike last time where we ate in at the restaurant, this evening (6/29/22 at 8 pm) we decided to order carry-out. We ordered a 16 inch Deluxe pizza, a 12 inch sausage and pepperoni, and a garden salad. The associate on the phone seemed puzzled when we inquired how many the salad might serve, responding quite frankly with "I have no idea". He noted that the pizza would be ready in about 20 minutes, and we were excited by the prospect of relatively swift service. Upon arriving at the pick-up counter, we witnessed a somewhat intimidating encounter between the manager and a young male employee, in which the former rather publicly expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the latter. We received the food, noting the modest garden salad would feed fewer than anticipated (about 1), and proceeded home excited to dig into our pizza feast. We met our first real surprise as soon as we opened the Deluxe pizza box: the cleanly partitioned pizza we had come to expect instead sat sturdily in the box as a complete whole, showing no sign that even a meager attempt was made to slice the pizza. One bite into the Deluxe and my mother was visibly crestfallen. Both the flaccid crust and vegetable toppings were severely undercooked to the point of being raw. We wished that they had prioritized cooking the food over meeting the 20 minute order fulfillment target. The crust itself was completely flavorless and seemed like it had been pre-manufactured. A pass through our oven at home could not rescue this poor pizza. The sausage and pepperoni was about average quality (if even a bit undercooked as well), reaffirming that the quality of this once-stellar pizza has declined, and declined unforgivably. I would pass on this restaurant if you are in town. Perhaps you may fare better eating in the actual restaurant (please avoid the carry-out). I am suspicious that the restaurant staff do not prioritize the satisfaction of their carry-out customers, realizing they are unlikely to return to the restaurant soon anyway, given that most of them are tourists. A heavy-hearted one star. read more

Great food overall, happy I got to experience this door county staple! Unfortunately, I don't think it was worth the wait of 45 minutes on a Monday night. All of the food was good, and the chicken tenders were my favorite part. Unfortunately, waitress was mid :( she said water refills would come in two minutes but they came in 3 minutes and 12 seconds. We ate here twice during our long weekend in door county. First we had the sausage and pesto, then we had the Paisano. I was impressed with the speed, as we came at a busy time and when I asked if we could get a pizza to go the lady advised me yes and it would take 15 minutes...I was thinking we would have to shop around nearby, but that was not the case. In less than 20 minutes we had our piping hot pizza and took a quick ride home and fully enjoyed it. So much that two days later we ended our trip with a other pizza! The fresh shaved Parmesan is a great touch! Thank you Wild Tomato! They were also very accommodating and made half of our pizza with "light cheese"!!! I would say the sausage and pesto pizza was a perfect balance of what you would want in a sausage pizza with the pesto added for some flair. The paisano was also very good but much more salty in comparison due to the soppressata and the sun-dried tomatoes. Still all very good. My partner said he liked both the pizzas the same! read more

5-Star Pizza and Service. Camping at nearby Peninsula State Park, this Fish Creek staple was a treat as one of our only non-camping meals. We went before 5pm to beat the blue hair crowd, and glad we did. This place is busy! If you don't get seated immediately, there's a little bar outside that has a nice selection of local craft beer on draft, and table turnover is pretty efficient. We were promptly seated in the patio, and our server was great! She treated my son like royalty, and was on point for the whole meal. She made sure I was aware an IPA was extra hoppy (yes, please) and made sure the woman that put our D-Lux pizza down had offered us fresh grated parmesan for it (thanks, no thanks). Our D-Lux pizza was absolutely excellent. Huge fresh pepperoni pieces, unique homemade sausage, even the mushrooms were good (and I hate mushrooms). Our one leftover slice of pizza was wrapped up for us, but being on bike I left it on the table. The guy clearing our table yelled out to me, asking if I forgot my slice! Truly friendly and on top of it service, here. I can't comment on the inside, as we never set foot inside. The patio is the place to be in the summertime, and the pizza's worth the wait if you don't beat the Blue Hairs and other tourists that have heard how great Wild Tomato's pizza is. I ate at Wild Tomato at the suggestion of an enthusiastic Door County trolley tour guide claiming it was "the best pizza he's ever had". We grabbed a seat on the outdoor patio with no wait time. We have been dining at Wild Tomato in Fish Creek for years, but in the last year it has gone downhill. It is SO inconsistent. We ordered 2 pizzas for carry out, and we were told they wouldn't be ready for 2 hours. When we got there, the kitchen was highly staffed with very few customers. We picked up our pizza and drove home. When we opened the boxes, both of our pizzas are completely burnt. It's $100 for burnt pizzas. To top it all off, the garden salad we received was topped with tomatoes so bad that they are slimy and rotten and on the verge of exploding. The carrots are moldy and the lettuce is not fresh. The salad as well as the pizza are inedible. The quality of the salad is so concerning, it makes me wonder about the freshness of the pizza ingredients. read more

Whoohoo! I think this is my favorite spot in Door County to eat. It's the cutest pizza place, small and quaint, with a cute bar. The staff is really friendly and I have to say that they also had very generous wine pours. We tried the Fun Guy pizza - all sorts of mushrooms - yum. We swapped out the regular garlic sauce that comes with this pizza and elected for a regular tomato sauce (I think it was perfect this way). I don't even love mushrooms, but it was mother's day weekend, so I let mom pick and I have to say that it was amazing. We liked this spot so much that we went back on our last day and bought another pizza to take home to Chicago! This is my first time at Wild Tomato, and I understand what all the enthusiasm is about! The place is real nice, with seating inside and out, and a roomy waiting area. When we arrived, the friendly staff told us to expect a 30-40 minute wait, but they had us seated within 10 minutes. Our sever was amazing. Friendly, attentive, and fast. I was surprised because the place was very busy. I ordered a "Make Your Own" pizza with mushroom, onion, green pepper, sun-dried tomatoes and vegan cheese. Lori ordered a "Fun Guy Burger" with 5 kinds of mushrooms. My pizza was so good. The vegan cheese reminded me of ricotta, and the tomato sauce was simply amazing. Lori enjoyed her burger and fries. We visit the Wild Tomato every time we are in Door County. We love that they are a small business and the food is fresh and delicious. The staff is friendly and pleasant even when stressed and busy. They are always super busy but give a realistic time frame for orders. This time our pizza crust was burnt, very disappointing after waiting almost 2 hours for our food but definitely an anomaly since we have never had this happen before. We really love this place and the pizza is amazing. We love both the Fish Creek and Sister Bay locations, although we haven't tried the one in Egg Harbor. You can tell the ingredients are fresh and the pizza is wood-fired. The sauce is tangy and the pizza is always delicious. There are other things on the menu that we love and our daughter recommends the salads. Anytime we have been there the servers are always very nice. A Door County favorite. read more

For our visit to Wild Tomato it was all about the vibe. It's a groovy little outside cafe in one of the prettiest spots in Door County. Friendly service and a decent selection of drinks including some outstanding cherry soda. The pizza was decent. We got a Margherita with buffalo mozzarella. The cheese didn't have that quality buffalo taste and was pretty sparse. The tomato sauce was a little acidic and lacked depth. The crust was good. I watched the pizziolo for a bit and it seemed like there could be a bit more training involved to get it right. Our 8 year old loved it and bought a t-shirt so that says a lot. read more

We first tried ordering a pizza on Sunday evening and tried calling in for 30 minutes to the Sisters Bay location. We finally stopped by and spoke to the young guy at carry out. Instead of being apologetic that we couldn't get a call through, he snickered and commented about how busy they were. I was there five minutes and their phone only rang once. He then said it would be an hour and a half for a pizza so we left and ate elsewhere. Since we couldn't get a pizza Sunday, we called in on Monday at 4:30 in the afternoon at the Fish Creek location. We ordered a large Green and Gold with Ranch dressing and they said it would be ready at 5:30. We showed up at 5:22 and they said it would be just a few minutes. At 5:40 they finally brought out our pizza boxed up after it sat out unboxed on the counter for over five minutes (I saw them take it out of the oven but didn't know it was mine). They handed me the pizza, didn't bother to apologize that I had been waiting 10 minutes after it was supposed to be ready, and didn't even thank us for our business. I didn't realize until we got back home that they didn't give us any Ranch. After two poor service experiences and no attempt to be appreciative of our business, I'm certain there are other pizza places that would be glad to have our future business. read more

I have been here numerous times and this past time was just okay. The pizza itself was great quality and I loved the artichokes added to the veggie option we shared. The crisp crust was really a delight. The salad I also ordered was good in flavor but poorly made. I should not have to use my knife to cut up the giant pieces of lettuce in it. I really enjoyed the lemon dressing in it though. The server was attentive to us the entire time which was good but it did make us feel a little rushed to leave after taking our time through eating.
