After walking several trails in Penninsula Park, my husband and I decided to have pizza in the town of Fish Creek. He'd looked up restaurants in the area of the park, and discovered wood-fired pizza at a place called Wild Tomato. There is a small parking lot next to the restaurant. Most of the tables are outside, picnic-style wooden variety. A hostess greeted us, and suggested we choose an outside table because the inside seating was filled. She estimated it would be about fifteen minutes before a table became available. We settled at a picnic table, but decided the day was too cool and breezy to enjoy lunch outside. We did get an inside table about ten minutes later. The music was oldies hits from the 70s, some from the 60s. The pizza oven was in sight from any table in the room. Unfortunately, there were more flies inside than outside. We waved them away during our entire stay. A waiter came within a few minutes to take our drink and pizza order: we decided on a Paisano pie, with an on tap Blue Moon beer and a glass of sangiovesi wine. The lady making the pizzas never stopped creating them the entire time we were there: she grabbed a ball of crust dough, stretched it, filled it, and tucked it into the oven, then checked the new orders and started the next one. The manager came over to welcome us. Our pizza arrived sooner than we expected, and it was very good: the crust was toasty outside, tender inside, and the sauce was excellent, not too sweet or too acidic. We ate all but two pieces, and took the rest back to stash in the refrigerator at our hotel. Fish Creek Wild Tomato gets our vote for pizza in Door County, especially after a long walk in the park. read more

All these positive reviews saying it's the best pizza they've ever had are truly like a twilight zone episode. This has always one of my favorite spots in door county. I look forward to the pizza each time we go. We passed up several other newer pizza places because of how great the pizza is. What we received on our last visit was terrible. We brought the pizza back to our room and ended up throwing most of it away. The Margherita pizza did not have any basil on it. That is one of the two toppings so we were quite disappointed. The restaurant itself appeared under staffed and overwhelmed. All in all it was not a pleasant experience. The pizzas are phenomenal. The bread plate was hit and miss. Most of it was very good, but the bread with tapenade on it was so so. Maybe my family and I are not so much into tapenade. I've heard the hype for Wild Tomato and had to try it for myself! The place was pretty busy for a Monday afternoon, which is always a good sign. Thankfully, we were able to order beer while we waited for an outdoor table. They've got a great tap list! They also have a good-sized parking lot, so we didn't have to deal with street parking. We ordered two pizzas. The Fun Guy was at the top of our list. Five types of mushrooms! It was excellent. My group agreed this one is a must-have if you're a fan of mushrooms. The cream sauce was the perfect pairing. We also tried The Paloma. Shrimp on pizza? Very intriguing. Unfortunately, this one fell flat. My group felt like it was missing something. The plates were filthy - there was dried food on 4 of the plates we were given. The pizza was okay. The cheese curds were very greasy like they weren't drained. This place shows up on several lists of places to eat when you're in Door County. We were there as a family of 5. We ate at the Wild Tomato at around 5:15 on a Tuesday night. Three teenagers, a wife with a gluten allergy, and me. We ordered cheese curds, Parmesan bites, a large pizza with half bacon half ham, and a gluten free pizza with sopresetta and goat cheese. We were seated right away, but the restaurant was pretty full already. Mostly outdoor seating which was nice enough last night. The curds came out first. Different from any we'd had. A far more delicate batter than usual. Reviews were mixed at our table but I thought they were good. The Parmesan bites were panned by everyone at the table except the 12yo who wanted them. They really ought to be called "Parmesan puffs." They were puffy pieces of bread with Parmesan cheese sprinkled on them. There was a lot of them but they weren't much to brag about. The regular crust pizza was fine. It didn't wow us but ham/bacon pizza isn't a "wow" order so that could be it. We ate the whole thing. But it was pretty meh. The gluten free pizza was the winner which is nice for a change - the gluten free wife never wins any menu comparisons. The crust tasted homemade - not Udis - and the ingredients were fresh. Atmosphere: Great outdoor seating area for the summer. The inside maybe had 5 to 8 tables, so I can imagine this place gets slammed pretty quick. The bathrooms are outside, so if you need to use the bathroom in winter, you are going to be taking a nice long walk. Service: Very friendly server who was passionate about what he does. We always had water in our glasses and our food came out really quickly. Food: Um wow. The food was just fantastic. I had an amazing salad and I CAN NOT RECOMMEND THE BREAD BASKET ENOUGH. On our first night in Fish Creek, we looked for a restaurant and came across Wild Tomato. Since there aren't many restaurants to choose from in the first place, it wasn't hard to decide on this place. First off, we completely appreciate the honest sign posted outside that due to the pandemic, the restaurant is short-staffed so the wait may be longer than usual. While it's often implicated this is the case, the sign does give customers more awareness of the situation instead of complaining about the prolonged wait time. We ordered the fried cheese curds and the D Lux pizza and we were not disappointed. The cheese curds were SO good--in fact, I found them to be more enjoyable than the pizza itself. The pizza was also fairly delicious but it wasn't mind-blowing (hence the minus 1 star). I think the specialty pizzas would have tasted more special, such as the Al Pastor pizza they had going on. I also want to comment that this is a family restaurant, so it was cute to see the different family members working together to make their customers happy. There were so many takeout orders, in addition to the dine-in customers, so the restaurant is very popular! I'm glad to have tried this place out while in Door county, but I'm not sure if I'll go again unless we were starving with no where else to go at night! read more

The service was awful, took about 20 minutes to get the attention of the server to get the check and boxes. The worst service in door county. Our server was the worst waiter we have had in a long time. He forgot to bring us forks, water, our appetizer, and the dough balls we requested for our kids. The level of apathy oozing from our server and the host were incredible. The permanent scowl on the hosts face made it painfully apparent he didn't want to be there. What an unfortunate experience. AMAZING pizza place in Door County! Now you know why they have such huge wait times! Totally worth it.. We went there on a busy Saturday evening for dinner had 1.5 hrs wait but decided to hang around to try their pizza.. Finally we were seated 15 mins before our time.. they have a lot of outdoor seating and limited indoor seating.. the outdoor seating does have some fire heaters but honestly not quite enough for the number of tables outdoor (hence I reduced one star).. We were seated outside and my parents were freezing since it was kind of chilly in spite of sitting next to the heater..kind of a bummer but we were hoping the food will make up for this..and yes it DID.. We ordered the fried cheese curds and this was DELICIOUS freshly made and these cheese curds were the best we ate in Wisconsin during our trip.. not too greasy perfectly flavored and the dip was amazing.. they disappeared from our table in no time.. We then ordered the veggie pizza and the fun guy pizza (half and half - which is another thing I LOVE about this place you can combine 2 favourite flavors into one small or large pizza so you can get the best of both worlds).. Both the pizzas were fresh out of the over with amazing flavors.. definately one of the best wood fired pizzas I have had in a really long time.. they went all out in terms of adding toppings on both the pizzas and we all thoroughly enjoyed every bite of this heavenly meal.. Will highly recommend this place to all visitors and locals if not already explored.. Just a tip for the owners - since this is Door County it can get really chilly 6 months a year think of some ways to keep your guests warm during the winter months cos it is not always comfortable to sit in huge jackets and eat your delicious pizzas..
