Really enjoyed our dinner here. We both said, let's come back soon! The ambiance is really laid back and feels like a little bar you'd come to grab drinks after work, but not too dark and dreary that you wouldn't want to bring the family for a nice dinner out. We started with the Wilder Plate, full of yummy cheeses and spreads. Then we had the Fried Chicken which was cooked perfectly and the mashed potatoes were excellent. The Blacken Chicken sandwich was divine. The sandwich was open faced on top of a GF 'bun' but wasn't something you'd pick up and shove in your mouth, it's much prettier than that and required utensils. The portions are large and although the name says "cafe" the food is on par with the options you'd get from DOC & Nonna (who are all neighbors). Excited to return! read more

I happened on to this place by accident & then looked them up on Yelp. What a fantastic find! The staff was very attentive without being overbearing. But, the best thing here is the food. I had the Hamburger & it was cooked to perfection ( I ordered medium-rare with bacon). This is one GREAT burger. I really like this place! Their chicken sandwich is amazing--I get it almost every time I go--and my man loves their burgers. And the garlic aioli for their fries is *chef's kiss* amazing. The vibe is chill and the servers are friendly--although sometimes they can be a little too friendly for my liking and it would be nice if they didn't hover as much. The first time I visited Wilder was a surprise date night--the kind where your kid's friend's parents say, hey, we'll hang on to your kid, go have fun! And then you run away as fast as you can to a place near you where you can have a drink and some food and not have a six year-old break up your conversation every five seconds. And it was wonderful--great beer list, great service, and some mussels that at first were good, and after repeated bites were AMAZING. Seriously, is there magic pixie dust in there? The second time we were in a bind--had to take the in-laws somewhere good, tasty, but close. We know they like mussels, let's try Wilder. In brief, while it's not the most ideal place we could have chosen for older folks, the service and food were ON POINT. I don't know what my FIL tipped our server, but I'm sure it wasn't enough because she was AMAZING. (I hope we get to go back soon to rectify this.) She predicted our every need, was gracious to the batty MIL, and was just wonderful. And the food is great. (This is not an afterthought, but not the main reason I'm writing this review.) I am not going to break down the menu or atmosphere, but suffice to say both are lovely. And it pains me to say it, but this place should be way more crowded than it was. What's not to love about this bar? The staff are so friendly and the food always hits the spot. Great tap list and excellent drinks. The burger is one of my favorites in Portland. They gave back to the community during the holidays preparing Thanksgiving meals to anyone in need. This is the kind of business I like to support, during Covid especially. Best food in the n NE radius as far as I am concerned. The price of spot on and although I don't usually like vegetarian food I had the vegan soup and it reminded me of a bowl of gravy and in really amazing way. The wait staff was extremely Pleasant to be around and very accommodating. The salad with beans on it sounds kind of strange but the small white beans taste like they made them fresh and were kind of chewy. Chewy beans are a good thing. I didn't feel like eating unhealthy bar food and was very excited to see that they had some baked blackened chicken to put on the salad only $3 extra. It was a large portion of chicken that was cooked perfectly. My friend got to mash potatoes and fried chicken that were also perfectly cooked and spice and salted. I love Wilder. Small and intimate, doesn't take reservations, 8 seats at the bar and maybe a dozen tables. They do their thing, keep it limited, and do it very well. It's my go-to place when I want to relax, have a cocktail, chat with Bertrand at the bar, and eat some really delicious food from a very straight forward menu. The burger is fabulous, and so is the fried chicken. Hard to go wrong with the cocktails, nice creative menu that changes seasonally, and dessert is not to be missed. Last evening we ventured into Wilder, a Concordia neighborhood gem, and just a ten minute drive from our Roseway hood--small, intimate, great music (a little loud for our taste, but bearable). But, the food--we both ordered the bourbon-honey fried chicken--hands down, best fried chicken we've ever had! So moist, and the honey-bourbon sauce, just a tiny amount was just the right amount to liven up the flavors. All this atop smashed potatoes which had a tangy kick. On a full stomach, looking at the Wilder menu makes me salivate. On a measly salad, a glass of champagne, two glasses of wine, and several food-less hours later, I WAS RAVENOUS. The bf and I high-tailed it over on a less than 5-minute walk from where we were staying and managed to nab the last open table; at 11 PM, this small, intimate little gem was mostly full. First impressions: YAAAAS. Reclaimed wood, exposed brick, Edison bulbs, and a chalkboard--I like what I like and I liked this. The hostess/waitress wasn't the most friendly, but she was the only waitress there and she would later shepherd some amazing dishes to our table so she is forgiven. Please do NOT do yourself a horrendous injustice by not ordering any cocktails. I got the bourbon sprawl: whiskey, pomegranate, lemon, and bitters. Essentially, it's whiskey and citrus, which is definitely my alcohol boo thang--like I said, I like what I like. The bf got some tequila-based red drink that tasted like Kool Aid in the best way possible. So why didn't I order another drink? Because I was too busy shoving delectable eats into my wide open trap for about an hour. We started with fried broccoli--I have no idea what they coated it in but it was gluten free--and it tasted like cheez-its. Who wouldn't love that? Nobody worth half a breath, that's who. I got the wilder burger with a polenta cake instead of a bun; the beef is grass fed and does yoga and all that jazz, but most importantly it was flavorful, moist, and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The burger itself is not only fantastic, but it's nestled on the polenta, topped with ROASTED. GARLIC. AIOLI, fried slices of sweet potato/yam (don't really know the difference tbh and too excited to Google), and pickled red onions! Get out. Just get out and leave me with this little miracle. As if I weren't blown away already, I got to sneak a few bites of the bf's (gluten free) fried chicken and I just wanted to cry. I wanted to weep openly because I was so damn happy. But instead I took another swig of my drink so it's pretty much the same thing. I left a little piece of my heart at Wilder that day. In it's place is about a quarter pound of animal fats and carbs. Just happened upon this lovely little place with no visible name and boy am I glad we found it! We had the mussel and fries, deeeelish! We also shared the beet soup, superb! Kale Caesar was mighty nice too! The thing that really knocked my socks off was the Ron Burgundy cocktail!!!!!!! 5 stars for that alone. Everyone was super friendly and was happy to chat with us. So check it out. Small, cozy and classy joint right on the corner of 30th and killingsworth. Great neighborhood with other cool places close by to hop around too. They have amazing cocktails, I had something with honey and rye whiskey. Can't recall the name but it was one of there signature drinks, made with love and was for sure delish. The fried cauliflower was so good I wanted seconds, came with a spicy sauce YUM. Can't speak any higher of this place, it's a must to stop in. Wilder is right down the street from me, so I figured it was time to give it a try. Service was a little slow and sporadic, and my burger was slightly overcooked. What a great little bar! The food is simply amazing. Try the fried cauliflower, the bollito and for vegitarians (or non- veggies like me), the the campesino.
