Still a local go-to diner. I ordered delivery today and was so disappointed i felt the urge to update my review. I ordered two identical egg sandwiches and they arrived differently! Different cheese, one had tomato and one didn't... There was a slight "detergent" taste to everything- When ordering on the delivery app you must choose what kind of bread or cheese and they ALL cost extra... Maybe it is a slow weekday at the diner - I hope everyone gets to keep their jobs

    Chicken Noodle Soup?!

What happened to this place? Not sure if there's a new owner but this used to be the best diner on LI, now not so much. I ordered three chicken noodle soups and this is what they sent. Cost 6 bucks a container and not one noodle!?! Last few times I've ordered delivery the order was completely wrong. This last delivery of yellow water is it, time to find a new diner.

3.5 Stars, but rounding up to 4 because of our excellent server, Betty! Give her a much deserved raise! Betty was so pleasant and patient, and very efficient at her job. What a pleasure! This was my first visit to this diner, and we went just before noon on Sunday. The parking lot was only about a third full, so that was a good sign! But as 12:30 approached, that lot was full! What a popular diner! On this occasion, three of us dined; two had breakfast and one had the early dinner special. (Note: the Sunday dinner special is available all day, however, if it's not dinner time, you won't get the dessert that the special comes with). Here are our menu choices: - Beef Brisket ($19.95 Sunday dinner special), comes with a veg and a potato of your choice. (No dessert since it's not dinner time). - Belgium Waffle deluxe ($13.80), comes with a large Belgium Waffle, bacon, sausage, ham and one egg. - Farmer's omelet ($13.95), three egg omelet w.bacon, ham, sausage & cheese and toast). I was told that both the waffle and brisket were pretty good! They were both happy with their choices. I had the omelet and thought it was just ok. The omelet was too well-done, and the potatoes were just unseasoned potatoes (no onion, no seasoning). I added salt n pepper to both but my meal was just kinda flat. I would opt not to order an omelet next time, and maybe stick with basic bacon and eggs. Great service, nice diner. I would give this diner another try.

Disappointed today. Service not what I expected. I did not get my food the way I ordered and wait staff never came to check to see if everything was alright. When I informed him that my home fries were not cooked enough (I requested well done) I was told that they did not make them that way because it takes longer. WTF? I would be happy to wait for food prepared the way I like it. If that was not possible, I would have ordered something else. I sent them back uneaten. It is a shame because I really like potatoes with my eggs.

Solid diner experience and will come back when I'm in the area! My husband and I went to several diners during Thanksgiving weekend and considering the fact that diners normally have larger portions, this one in particular had the largest for sure! The wait staff were nice and accommodating - so much so that we had 4 different wait staff come by our table, which was a little confusing, and we weren't quite sure who our waiter was... Overall, the food was great, though my home fries were unseasoned in my eggs Benedict order. Like not even salt hahaha which I guess is good for those who can't have too much sodium. Will definitely make a visit again in the future

9/16/18 Stopped by here after the Williston Park Street Fair. Pros: large portions, reasonable prices, complementary chickpea salad, coleslaw, and pickles. Nice host Ordered the burger deluxe which was quite tasty, prepared well done as I requested. It came with lettuce, tomato, french fries, and two onion rings. Cons: Undercooked cold french fries, I couldn't find the waitress after she dropped off my dish. I wanted some mustard. I finally asked the busboy who brought some honey mustard dressing. I had to get up and and find the manager who brought some mustard out from a cabinet. Also, dirty bathrooms. Prices are very reasonable

I'm not going to say this was a 5 star restaurant but it was certainly a 5 star diner. It was bright and very clean. Everything in the dessert case at the entrance looked excellent. I really wanted dessert but my meal was so big I couldn't finish it, let alone have dessert. I ordered the 2 meat sandwiches combo for $14.99. It was two whole sandwiches on rolls. It came with potato salad, cole slaw, a pickle, and chick pea salad which came first. My only negative comment would be about the potato salad. It had an unexpected sweet taste. Definitely not to my liking. But there was so much else to eat that it didn't matter. I'll be back here for sure.

Sometimes it's really good, and other times it's like they forgot to season anything. But also now, on our most recent visit, we noticed the portions seemed to have gotten smaller. The positives are that the interior is clean, spacious, and nicely decorated with high ceilings. If the weather is nice, you can sit outside, where there's even a putting green to enjoy while you wait for your food or after you're finished eating. The waitstaff has always been friendly and happy to offer recommendations. Over the years, we've tried quite a variety of their menu: pancakes, several burgers, the biscuit benedict, the Shegg sandwich, avocado toast, chicken and waffles, fried pickles, and more. So what's been inconsistent? How do you serve unseasoned ground beef? It's not pleasant. Have you ever had breakfast sausage with almost no seasoning? We have--and it was here. What about the portion sizes? Just compare my photos of the fried pickles from different visits, and they'll tell the story (the outside one was the most recent). Or if you've ordered a Bloody Mary recently, you might be wondering what happened to the mountain of slaw that used to come with it. The Shed isn't a cheap restaurant, so with the premium prices, I'd expect a lot more consistency when it comes to the food.

I had to change plans quickly as I looked at the specials they had going on that day wow! We decided to go with the duck and the monkfish main course entrees instead. Life is about making the right choices and this was the best decision I made that day lol! The duck was cooked to perfection soft on the inside crispy on the outside wow! I really like how juicy and fatty the duck was very succulent and delicious yummy. I especially liked the wine sauce on top among taste sweet with a slight tart to it juts the right balance I was impressed. Definitely one of the best duck dishes I've ever had it's a special so I'm not sure if it will be available when you decide to go call ahead would be my suggestion and your best bet. Laslty the side with butter squash was also a delight to eat and treat! Second course was the monkfish which was great as well. It had a slightly Smokey flavor to my pallet and a slight crunch on the outside maybe it was torched or seared not sure. Whatever the case it was a great touch to the dish very tasty and juicy as well. I love the sauce and the sides were great mashed potatoes with broccoli yummy! I highly recommend this place for brunch, lunch, or dinner take your pick. They will not disappoint you at all that's for sure. I liken the music they play in the background it's not too loud and always sets a great tone for the place. The restaurant has a beautiful, bright, modern atmosphere that feels much more upscale than its surroundings. Based on other reviews, the standout dishes seemed to be the grilled Spanish octopus and the SB Smash Burger, so I ordered both. Unfortunately, the execution fell short in several areas. The East Coast oysters arrived with mignonette but without horseradish or oyster forks--small details, but noticeable oversights. The oysters, octopus, and burger were all tasty, but the presentation of octopus and burger was surprisingly sloppy, as though little attention had been paid when the dishes left the kitchen. The bar also was understaffed. A single bartender was serving both the bar and the entire dining room, which led to waits for drinks. My bartender was friendly, attentive, and worked hard, but one person simply wasn't enough. I finished with the Key Lime Custard, which had what appeared to be a layer of shredded cereal on the bottom. I wasn't sure what it was. The dessert itself was enjoyable, though I think a base of toasted sliced almonds with a few fried blueberries on top of it would have added better texture and complemented the flavors more effectively. One nice perk is the validated valet parking, for a reduced fee, which makes arriving and leaving especially convenient given the mall location. The whiskey selection could also be improved by adding a few more interesting, off-the-beaten-path single malts or blends. Overall, the kitchen shows promise! And perhaps I came on an off night. With better attention to presentation, appropriate bar staffing, and a more adventurous choice of spirits, Small Batch could deliver an experience that better matches its reputation.
