Bret, the owner, is absolutely amazing. I went with my friend a couple of weeks ago while he was getting his bow adjusted, and Bret took the time to help me too. He asked which eye was dominant, and I assumed it would be my right since I'm right-handed but it turned out to be my left! I had never held a bow before, and he got me set up with a left-handed bow to try. I loved it. He was patient, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience so fun and welcoming. I can't wait to get my own bow and come back to use the indoor range. I also found the cutest shirt while I was there. AWESOME! Funny we were driving down the freeway and saw a Willow Creek Archery sticker on a truck and looked it up. We attended the beginner class and enjoyed it! All the staff are super friendly and helpful! Great equipment for beginners to use, instruction, and use of targets. Did get pretty full for the Friday afternoon class so be sure to arrive early. Plenty of parking, good AC, and bathrooms. Tons of selection in the shop and look forward to checking that out once our kids get more routine with lessons. Had a bad experience with a manager here after having nothing but good experiences. He seemed to be on a power trip and was driving customers away that would have happily paid for lessons. It's not as though him or the staff were slammed at the time. He also seemed to enjoy talking down on bow fishing. Asking if I could hit the target with a fishing bow. It's unfortunate that someone like this is in a management position where they can feed their inflated ego. I attended one of their Wednesday night open shooting classes. I was really excited for my first archery experience and the actual shooting part was fun. I feel like the staff there really knows a lot about archery and tries to help as much as they can. However, I feel like every round, I was told to shoot a different way by the two different instructors and it kept throwing off my grouping. Totally fine, because this was an experience and I was just trying something new. I knocked my Yelp rating down for a few different reasons: 1) class started 15 minutes late and I had arrived 15 minutes early so I was waiting for 30 minutes to start the session. On top of that, they ended the class earlier than an hour as the class is advertised. My class had about 45 minutes of shooting. 2) they advertise $25 for these classes. I called ahead and the lady on the phone repeated a few times that the classes are only $25. So it was extremely misleading that when I got there, they said classes were $25 CASH or $30 by card. So take cash if you don't want to pay an extra $5. 3) one of the instructors kept getting way too close for comfort and grabbed my clothes to drag my attention his way as if I was a child. I get that he was doing this to coach me through how to do archery as, again, it was my first time with a bow and arrow; however, he just kept grabbing my arms and hands and clothes... Each time he got too close, I would take a few steps back and he would close the distance to about a foot or less and I couldn't breathe because he was talking and all I could smell was his breath. I know this may sound harsh, but this was extremely uncomfortable for me. A few times I put my hand up as I made space between us to signal to him that I needed space. But as I stepped back, he would close the distance Everyone else seemed to very much enjoy the class and I feel like if I had gone with a group where someone I know would've stepped up for me when they noticed I was uncomfortable, I would've enjoyed the experience way more. Again, I still enjoyed the actual archery shooting part. If I didn't have to wait so long and pay extra for a class that was only about 45 minutes and if I was given enough physical space or at least told ahead of time that they would be hands on instead of just grabbing me at any time and dragging me in all different directions, I would've given this 5 stars. read more

I'm pretty much the gangbanger of archery. Well, when I worked at a police impound in Watts, one aimed and fired his gun at ME. My boss joked, "Don't worry; gangbangers never hit their targets". That said, I managed to hit mostly: above my target, below and beside it, and other peoples' targets. Granted, it was an archery class and I wasn't expected to be any good. I learned a lot of information regarding techniques in the hour I was there, as well as of my own deficiencies. I received a lot of help trying to correct them, which I truly appreciated. I currently shoot with more enthusiasm than skill. The only thing I'm consistent at is how inconsistent my aiming is! I plan on returning and trying left-handed (keeping my bad shoulder up without discomfort was just not possible!). Overall, a fun experience and I look forward to researching and learning this activity as I am looking for a new hobby. A wonderful small business. My daughter wanted to get in to archery after trying it a few times a couple years ago. So happy to find WCA with it being only 15 Min from our hone. We went in to look at bows and Casey was extremely helpful abs thorough with getting my daughter fitted with the right one. No hard sales, no pushing for extras or trying to sell the most expensive items. So needless to say she left a happy camper. With all she needed. Looking for an archery class and live in north county sd? This is your place! There aren't many options in north county, so coming from CARLSBAD or Encinitas, this is actually the closest place. Parking is easy in their lot. They have multiple class times. I went on a Wednesday at 6pm. They also have a 7:15 option. We were directed through the archery shop to the back where there's an indoor range. The instructor, Mark, was very kind, helpful, and patient! We were first timers, so he started with the basics and built on as the class progressed. This is a mixed level class. Everyone else owned their own bow and arrows and come often. We borrowed a bow from the shop. They provided arrows and targets too. It was an hour long class. Mark spent most of his time with us newbies. It was basically just target practice for the rest. People seemed to know each other and were friendly. Come with an open mind and can do attitude and you'll have some fun and learn something new! read more

The people who run this shop are amazing and each of the men I had interactions with were perfect gentlemen. Not creeps. Not pervs. Not rude. I'd like to start off by saying I bought a bow from another shop and they did a piss poor job tuning it. So, I took my bow to Willow Creek. Bret basically had to take everything off and start from scratch. Not only did the previous shop setup my d loop and rest wrong but also stripped the screws for my quiver, didn't secure the sight down all the way and other embarrassing things. The shop is great they have a great selection of bows and accessories a shooting range in the back and very knowledgeable staff. I was in the market for a new compound hunting bow. Brett set me up to try six different models and then took the time to set up my new bow and dial it in until I was shooting bullet holes in paper. Over two hours from start to finish to make sure I had the right bow and that it was set up properly.
