I came to Wimberley Café for the first time recently and I'm glad to say that this was an impressive restaurant. I had the Homestyle Burger and was delighted with how good it was. THE SWEET POTATO FRIES WERE PERFECT. One thing that stood out from this restaurant was the staff. Although a little unorganized, the staff members all helped each other and worked well together! I've eaten at the Cafe, back before COVID restrictions, and it was pretty good. But this review is for their outside wine/beer vendor, on the Kiss The Cook side of the cafe patio. BEWARE that this is a pretty good con job: we asked for two glasses of the white wine advertised at $6 on the chalkboard. The highest priced other beverage was $9. The guy proceeded to say he wanted us to "try something special," which he said was "only a little more", opened a new bottle of white while keeping up a rapid patois, and we tasted it. It was good. We should've asked the price he wanted for it, because we were QUITE taken aback he wanted $26 for two glasses of unadvertised, unsolicited wine. And then he proceeded to try to sell us the bottle, to walk around unchilled and opened in 100 degree heat, for $32. What a way to prey on tourists. read more

On a four day holiday to explore the "Hill Country" we passed through the adorable town of Wimberly. Seemingly a must do shop, we turned around to go back and explore. We foundba beautiful hand made pepper mill by artist Tim Martin at the Old Mill Store. We then proceeded to have a beverage at the Wimberly Cafe prior to our return trip home. We ordered some most awesome Brussels Sprouts with Balsamic Vinegar to nosh with the beverage. So very tasty. The service from Sherry Lee made for a memorable experience. We've eaten there several times and were mostly satisfied with food and value. Unfortunately our most recent visit - 1 september 2024 - left us disappointed with both food and service. When ordering, the waitress pointed out the roast beef special on garlic toast that another guest was having. However, ours came with a cold roll and the beef was in a gravy that reminded us of the horrible packet gravy on salisbury steak. The meal was horrible. We each ate less than half our plate. The waitstaff was a nice lady when she was around. There was no one to greet us at the host stand when we came. The waitress that came and seated us only came by when we ordered and when the food was delivered. There was no one at the host stand when we wanted to pay and leave and had to go inside (we ate outside) to find someone. The only part of the meal we finished was the pecan glazed brussel sprouts. They were good but nothing else was. An attentive waitress would have noticed and asked about the meal - alas, no. Sometimes, a place is perfect for what it is. Long standing iconic cafe under youthful and forward thinking new ownership. Wimberley is blessed. It's cute, friendly, relaxing and affordable. It's not fast, because it's freshly prepared, home cooking. We're there twice a week and it's my husband's favorite, hands down! Breakfast is great here, and I've not had a single thing I didn't love. Try the blueberry pancakes on Sunday. There is so much blueberry, it's hard to believe there isn't a shortage of them. The coffee is outstanding (wish they'd sell it by the pound!) And, they have stevia sweetener (not your average cafe for sure.) Perfectly cooked bacon, awesome pork chop. Beautiful eggs and crispy hash browns. I'm fixated on their catfish. It's amazing and fresh tasting; never muddy tasting like some cafes. And instead of gross corn meal breading, theirs is light, with a ground panko crust that tastes faintly of sesame. The coleslaw is dynamite also, not the familiar overly mayo'd stuff. Light, slightly tart, and perfect with the fish. And be sure to try the Brussels sprouts in balsamic vinegar side. OMG, so good. read more

Stopped in here for a late lunch and glad we did. It is on the square in Wimberly and in one of the oldest buildings. We were seated quickly and our server came over immediately. She took good care of us. We ordered the chicken fried chicken and chicken fried steak. Both were great. These had to be hand breaded which is awesome. Both were tender enough to cut with a fork and nice and hot when served. The mashed potatoes were real potatoes (not processed) , and the gravy tasted homemade as well. My daughter and I made a return trip to Wimberley after a previous visit earlier in the year. This was our first time eating at the Wimberley Cafe. Entering you are greeted by bright colors on the walls and many of the tables, as well as wood accents around the doorways and windows. We were seated quickly and given menus. Seeing the menu it is very "dinery", if I may create my own word. We ordered a Southwest Burger and a Patty Melt. The patty melt came on toasted rye bread that had a great crunch to it. The Patty was big and the caramelized onions with cheese topped off the sandwich. It came with fries which were nothing fancy, but hot and fresh. My daughter's burger had plenty of chills and fresh produce. All in all, it was good food. Nothing fancy or out of the ordinary, but good, solid cafe food. read more

When we got here the place was not packed at all but dirty tables forced us to wait for about 15 minutes. It appears they only have two waitresses trying to cover the dining room and the outside area and no one bussing tables. The waitresses are working hard but are visibly overwhelmed and the one working the outside area is sweating profusely. Once seated we ordered drinks and breakfast (simple 2 eggs scrambled with bacon, hash browns and a biscuit plates). Drinks were delivered quickly to our table but went un-refilled during the entire 45 minutes we waited for our food. We were just about to just pay for the drinks and leave when our food finally arrived. Eggs were scrambled (kind of hard to mess up), hash browns were burned on the outside, cold and raw on the inside, bacon was cooked crispy but cold and the biscuit was cold as if it had been refrigerated. All in all we were really excited to try this place out based on some of the reviews here but left very disappointed. We'll be eating breakfast elsewhere for the rest of our trip. read more

We eat here almost every day, and have done so for several months. We've come to know Jennifer, Jessica, and the other girls (the wait staff are all ladies) and they have come to know us by name. Most days, we'll bid hello to Mark - the owners' son who helps in the front of the house - and who is almost always friendly and boisterous, remembering just what you are if not completely who you are. Wimberley Cafe has not changed very much in perhaps decades - slightly shopworn eclectic furniture, stark lighting, one and only one bathroom, today's cakes and pies under glass at the bar, daytime news playing consistently on the two TVs, and cheerful servers dashing back and forth with heaping plates of food (pretty) goodness - mostly fried. And why should it change? Wimberley Cafe is and does exactly what it should and is nothing more than it has always proclaimed: the only full-service game in town in a sleepy, Texas Hill Country small destination. Would their food be better if they cooked out of Paula Deen's cookbook? Sure. Whose wouldn't? But the sometimes overwhelmed kitchen is just part of doing business in a small, kitschy shopping destination town - itself located between two rapidly growing Texas powerhouses Austin and San Antonio. Having sampled most everything on menu more than five times we present to you some of the highlights: Pancakes - are plate sized and above average. If you can get them hot, they rock. Omelets - are almost always good but almost always served with cold toast. Go for the (extra crispy) hash browns and get a pancake on the side. Bacon - fatty, crunchy, and ample. Meatloaf Mondays - among the best thing WC offers; good and kinda like mom used to make. Comes with mashed potatoes (nice flavor and bits of skin) and run-of-the-mill green beans. Go early for this as it's gone by noon! Chicken Fried Steak/Chicken - the chicken fried chicken is large, salty/tasty, and appealing. Maybe even get white gravy on the side. Veggie on the side almost always hit or miss. Rio Chicken Sandwich - surprisingly good blackened teriyaki chicken, nicely spiced, and flavorful. A really good to great sandwich. Set off very nice with the fries Soups - almost always way too salty. Get the chili with onions and cheese. Chili pie is salty but good washed down with coke. Chicken Salad - bland and harmless, one of us liked the flavor as it's a little creamy. Add a touch of salt and it gets a lot better. Nice texture. Hamburgers - when WC gets the burger right, it's quite good. Unsure what to get? Ty this. Taco Salad - needs tomatoes and olives and is a little low on portion size. Nice flavor, though. Served with Fritos. Runner up: Breakfast Tacos - a great deal and consistently good if you order them correctly: get refried beans on the side and order the hash browns crispy. In fact, on *anything* order the hash browns extra crispy. We always get ours with corn tortillas, 2 each, and fully loaded. 5 bucks for a breakfast which is hearty and tasty. Served with decent salsa. Remember to order jalapenos on the side and maybe even sour cream if you are so disposed. But the awards go to: Friday Catfish - I don't even like catfish, but will get this every time. It's light and flaky and served in little catfish chucks with some average-if-spicy hushpuppies. This is better than any catfish anywhere, so far. Apple Pie with Vanilla Ice Cream on the Side - as with the catfish, I don't like apple pie, but will get this combination every time. Cinnamon crunchy heated goodness with Blue Bell vanilla ice cream (ON THE SIDE). I have no idea what drug they put in this. NOTES: The restaurant may benefit from trying its food out before serving it to guests. Coffee is - God love them - terrible. Go to the little coffee shop next door. Tea is almost always strange in flavor. Generally speaking, the often overwhelmed Wimberley Café is hit and miss, but mostly hit. On weekends there *will* be a line and a wait, and things start getting busy on Thursdays. That said, lunch rush on pretty much any given day is capacity. If this review seems a little harsh, it's only because we can be hard on the ones we love. Will you enjoy Wimberley Café? Almost certainly. But you'll enjoy it because the experience is friendly, the staff's hearts are warmer than the toast, and the prices are very reasonable. Stop here when you can. Make some friends. But get those hash browns crispy. read more

Food is good. Atmosphere is ok. Depends if you're sitting inside or out. Service is?????? Waiter was good -check in process not so much. We stay here often and have no problem getting on the waitlist at Chills. But here you have to walk over and get on the list and hope they do it correctly. I waited in a line to check in - stood second in line and waited for 5 minutes to be acknowledged. Then a random couple walked up (out of line) and the guy looked to them next when obviously they weren't next in line - I was! Told it would be 20 minutes and I would get a text confirming I was added to the list and another text when my table was ready. Watched as people at the end of the line were being seated before I got up to question why I hadn't received either text. He knew I was perturbed and said - oh- your table is ready! Oh I would hope so since you've seated everyone but us! Not coming back don't care if I have to drive 30 minutes away. read more

Proceeds to ask "Are you sure if this is a service animal because service animals usually sit down." while I was trying to maneuver her away from the aisle after being seated. By far the the more pleasant place to eat from out weekend getaway. Reasonably priced food for good home comfort food. My wife ordered the blueberry pancakes which she wished she could finish. Unfortunately she only has 1 stomach and the double stack of delicious, fresh, whole blueberry pancakes took up the entire plate. I ordered the chicken and waffles. Unfortunately the chicken was slightly dry and took away from my enjoyment. My father had the BLT which he inhaled with content. The waitstaff was exceptional. Speedy, attentive, busy, but cheerful!
