My husband and I did not like this restaurant. But my family, who thinks Cheesecake Factory is fine dining, loved it. The rolls were fantastic. The cornbread was flat and too sweet. The bacon wrapped scallops were yummy, the chowder was just okay. My family got scrod and pot roast and loved it. We got filet and seafood stir-fry. The filet was thick and chewy (cooked properly), the stir fry meh. The sides were good. The desserts were good-enough. I liked the atmosphere of the Cape Cod pub. But we wouldn't go back. My family definitely will, siting "all the free rolls you want and grapenut custard pudding for dessert" as two of the highlights. read more

I've been going to Wimpy's for years it's a great spot and had a fun pub. Had an ok experience the other night ordering a grilled Rubin and it came out cold and not grilled .. I hate complaining but ask for kitchen to grill it snd it came back and they microwave it. Which of course made it soggy . Never been here before but had heard such great things. Brought my mum in for birthday lunch. The bartender was the absolute worse I've ever had. Aside from her ignoring to watch the game & whatever else . Our drinks were completely melted of ice before she even came back to us. We almost left without ordering because we were finishing our drinks before she came back. She brought us the dinner rolls that we asked for when we ordered, AFTER our meal was done. On top of it I bit into a rotten clam that I spit out & washed my mouth with actual liquid soap in the bathroom. We spent $90 on 2 appetizers & 3 cocktails & potential shellfish food poisoning but we shall see how that goes. First & last experience. What a dump. Wimpy's has gone down hill. The prices went up and the quality went down. I had swordfish that I had to cut with a knife and it tasted funky. The dinner rolls also were not fresh . I'm very familiar with swordfish having flown a fish spotter plane way offshore as a kid. I spotted and the boat harpooned them. When in a customer driven industry you may want to put "customer service" in your priorities... I called on a Monday to make reservations and whomever answered the phone hastily said "someone will call you back.." For reservations?? Come on.. I waited 3 more hours and called back and was told by the same person that someone will call you back.. It is now Thursday.. No call. I wager if you cannot take a reservation over the phone then you cannot run a restaurant well... Terrible experience without even dining. Shame on you Wimpy's!! read more

If this were located in Boston, it would totally be an average 3-star review. But because of its humbleness and quaintness in this Cape Cod village, alongside many meals shared with relatives, I can't help but feel a personal affinity here. Wimpy's is no more than a casual restaurant where families, friends, and strangers come to eat, drink, and be merry. The staff is friendly, the space is meager, and the food is satisfactory. Oh, and to end on a lighter note...my litle brother once threw a knife at my older brother one evening at dinner. It missed him and hit a random gentleman at another table. We've been going to Wimpys for 30 years. It has never let us down until tonight. The menu was shortened so our faves were gone. The server neglected to tell us any specials even after we specifically asked if there were any other salmon specials. We only learned there were after we had already ordered and heard the table next to us being told. All of our sides were cold and had to be sent back except the French fries one in our party got. The portions are smaller. The famous hash 'n cream were not very good. Mine had a big chunk of potato in it. Not mashed. Probably will find somewhere else to go for awhile. Hopefully it gets better. We heard others around us complaining about the changed menu. We also overheard they are only making one prime rib a day so it sells out fast. It could just be the hard times. We hope so. First time dining at Wimpy's last night (a Thursday). We were pleasantly surprised by the attentive quality of the service, the flavor of the food, the range of quality beverages, and the over-all ambiance of the dining room area. The bar area is quaint and cozy, but it was also packed. The dining rooms were well appointed and spacious. Kudos to the managers and wait staff, if they are experiencing any sort of labor shortage (like most everyone else seems to be on the Cape), you'd never know it. We were seated by a host (perhaps the dining room manager), who came back to check on us twice during the course of the meal. Our waitress was good humored and highly attentive throughout the meal. We both really enjoyed our dining experience and will certainly return to further explore their menu (they have daily specials and there are more specials on the specials menu than are actually posted on their website--good to know). read more

My wife and I had lunch in the "casual" dining room on a Saturday around noon, and found it nearly empty. I tried the lobster panini and found it tasty and loaded with chunks of fresh lobster. My wife had the fried clams - another guilty pleasure. Service was pleasant and swift. What makes this a 3-star review and not a 4-star review is that before tip we paid $60 for two meals and two cocktails. Both entries were $20 each, even though the portion sizes were not particularly big. The ambiance also seems to straddle the fence between nostalgic and divey. We have been coming here for years and have always enjoyed the food and service. Tonight, we got a server who is either new, disinterested or poorly trained (or all of it). The server didn't know what's in the soup special and different types of vegetables on the side. The server also failed to mention that our meal came with either soup or salad. After we've ordered, we have to wave two staff to replenish the water. The soup came terribly late that the main course came while we were still having the soup. While we were still eating, the server came back (after NOT once checking in on us or asking us how everything was) and said "are you guys ordering dessert or just the check?" I'll chalk this up to one bad experience but it's a Friday night over Labor Day weekend, I would think the management would have someone more experienced. read more

We ordered two dozen oysters and they were pretty tasty. The complimentary cornbread was also pretty delicious! We enjoyed them and they were gone within a few minutes. It literally felt like someone just boiled the seafood (no seasoning whatsoever), tossed in random chunks of feta and olives to maintain that "mediterranean" taste, and put in bland pasta. Really? Seemed like there was minimal effort in trying to make a cohesive dish. I couldn't taste a single thing even after I doused my plate with pepper. I mean...was it really that hard to cook the seafood with the vegetables? Because the vegetables tasted thoroughly seasoned but the pasta was so bland and soggy. I did not enjoy my meal at all. I probably took a total of five bites and was done with it. I really tried to even have each element on my fork and taste it that way. Still, it was just not a good combination at all. I came here on a recommendation from someone working at a hotel I stayed at in town. The spot is cute, with many options, both seafood and other, on the menu. Prices were quite decent (I think around $12 for a lunch plate) and the portions are large (my friend and I split a baked scrod lunch entree and a calamari appetizer). Overall, although the food was good, it lacked seasoning. I found myself adding a lot of salt to the scrod and the accompanying veggies. They used to be fantastic. The last two times have been sub par. Their Turkey dinner was horrendous. The Turkey looked like it was compacted in a machine and was gelatinous. When I told the waitress she said I could just keep the sides if I didn't want anything else. They charged for each side and it came to the same price as if I had also had the Turkey. They didn't seem to care how bad the Turkey was. I was shocked they served it. The time prior I took my daughter as a surprise. She enjoyed their chicken Parmesan which is why we went. They were "out." She chose something else and they were "out." We ended up with plain pasta for her. I also had to request the dinner rolls. The waitress never came back to check on our water and drinks which were empty and we would have had second of the water and drinks. I was starving. Starving. I needed food, and I needed it NOW. Wimpy's was open during those hours when most restaurants are usually transitioning, so I was extremely grateful. I was even more grateful when their award-winning quahog chowder hit my lips - creamy, salty, quahog-y and chock full of taters and flavor. Even better were the boneless buffalo chicken strips and delicious blue cheese sauce. We also ordered a BLT that was tasty and ample -it really hit the spot. My complaint? The service. After a promisingly quick seating and drink order, we had to practically jump up and down to get attention. The food took a while to arrive, and the check took even longer. When the waitress did pay attention to us, she wasn't particularly friendly ar warm. FIrst time with new chef. Maybe just an off night but this was the worst meal we've had in12 months on Cape Cod. Stick with the simple stuff. Don't go fancy! Appetizers - calamari in spicy chili sauce: sauce could easily have been store bought. Calamari was sliced too thick, coating was loose and wet. Clams casino more tasteless orange breading than the tiny cherrystone buried inside could handle. No flavor. Loose and undercooked. Scallops wrapped in bacon: small bay scalllops cut in half then double wrapped in bacon which overwhelmed whatever taste may have lingered. Stuffed quahog: mostly bread, low flavor, typical tourist 'stuffy' which a mid-westerner may have enjoyed. Not this local. Main dish: rare tuna wrapped in corriander/papaya crust. Sounded great! It wasn't. Tuna was mealy and fatty. Bright pink in color, not the deep red a quality tuna. THE 'CRUST' WAS MORE LIKE A DRIED PASTE, OVERLY SWEET AND JUST PLAIN WEIRD. Orban Spoon has a 87% favorable rating. In Osterville there's not a lot to choose from but I don't see us returning. Also, and here I'm being unfair because this will be me some day: At 55 we were the youngest by far and the waitress said this was a good night. Meaning fewer geriatrics than usual. The pub area in the back (which is really the front near the street - but hey, it's Cape Cod, we're directionally challenged!) looked cozy and warm. Very early 1900's feel. This was busy, too. Same menu. But I'm guessing, for those who know, you go here for a burger and a beer. You'd think the name would have been a hint? But noooo.... I wanted to take my visiting daughter to a nice fish dinner. Fail. Go to Five Bays Bistro instead, or Blue, or Sienna, or Trevi. All great choices. Sorry for the stream of contiousness review. Sure, I'd eat here again. The food was solid. I got the seafarer's platter, or something. It was a plate full of fried sea creatures. Sea creatures are excellent fried. Wimpy's sea creatures are pretty standard for Cape Cod, but if you're from Indianapolis or something, I'd imagine you'd think they're the bee's knees. My wife got fish and chips. It was a thin haddock with a light batter, which is really what fish and chips should be. Wimpy gets a high-five for that one. Their beer selection isn't bad either, and is predominantly local. Cape Cod Beer is recommended, particularly if they have a dark on tap. The raw oysters were okay, but not what I'd call top notch. Prices were not too high, and the amount of food is crazy, so okay, fine. I accept the bill. On the other side of the joint, there's a fish butchery. Is that what you'd call that? Nobody objects, so I'll continue. The prices in there were pretty reasonable, and we got some tuna steaks and a salmon steak which we cooked the next day. They are both Matt W. approved.
