But, I was waiting for my car to get serviced nearby and it was breakfast time so I walked over to this Winchell's. And, this isn't like the old Winchell's that I remember as a kid. Besides donuts and coffee, they now have bagels, muffins, blended drinks, croissants, tortas, bagel sandwiches and wraps so they've changed a lot. My experience at Winchells was a great one. We went at a late time and were surprised that the worker was nice, energetic and quick with everything we asked for. The place was clean, well organized and felt comfortable enough to eat at even though it was late night and pretty deserted. The food is good and the times I've been inside it. The store looked clean and well kept and very inviting. The reason for the four stars is the service. This particular store for whatever reason does not look at special requests when it comes to delivery service. Every time I order, I only order five types of donuts and I wanted those five and those five only in my order. They decide to give me only those five and give me the other nine with whatever they want, and that was not my intention at all. Winchell's pulling thru this morning with my coffee. Only $2.50 for a large, sweet. The have baby donuts for 89 cents each or 6 for 5 bucks. I got an extra one I think on accident but I will take it. I tried every single flavor and they're all good, but glazed was the surprising underdog, it's very moist. The blue one is blueberry and tastes like Trix cereal or something. It's not bad but does have that energy drink artificial flavor vibe to it. Donuts are life. I had a bad experience with them on Saturday March 9, 2024 at around 9:30 am. I was the only person in line and the staff completely ignored me. After about 2 minutes, two other people walked in and for some reason the staff decided to help them while continuing to ignore me. After they helped the last customer I asked one of the employees why she ignored me and allowed the other two customers to cut in front of me, and she said she didn't know I was there, even though I was standing DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE REGISTER. She asked me what I would like to order but I stormed out of the restaurant and decided to look for coffee somewhere else. I've only been to this area twice in my whole life, the first was last night when I decided to grab a Large Chilla and a donut. At that time there was no problems and I had nothing to complain about. As a kid, Winchell's was synonymous with donuts, like "Xerox" was used interchangeably with "photocopy." There seems to be fewer of these stores around these days, which is too bad, because Winchell's is everything a donut store should be: clean, organized, affordable, and offer a wide selection. I'm on a donut hiatus-- health goals and stuff. But in Rowland Heights, on those cold swim meet mornings at the high school, you can't beat this place for convenience. Couldn't find a 7 Eleven south of the 60 on Colima, so this place became my coffee jam all weekend. Jessica behind the counter was really sweet and took great care of me... even while some angry lady in front of me, who resembled a javelina with Oppositional Defiance Disorder, got all bent out of shape because she had to walk two steps to get packets of sugar for her coffee and seven donuts before waddling to her car, where she proceeded to consume all of them, crumbs covering the front of her sweatshirt. If I could give them 0 stars I would. I purchased a bagel and there was mold on it. When I went and told the lady working she tried to gaslight me and tell me it was a blueberry when it was clearly green and fuzzy. They refused to give us a refund and told us to come back the next day. When we came back the next day they made us wait 20 minutes before we got our refund. They talked amongst themselves without even keeping us updated. The manager was there so i'm not sure why it took them a whole 20 minutes to refund us $3. Our normal donut store was closed so we came here. Not sure if it was because we came pretty late or not but the donuts didn't have much variety and seems smaller compared to other donut shops.
